:) NowPanic, atm the little kicks are still making me smile and I don't mind them one bit. It feels like a special little thing only me and LO have. I keep hearing rumours that later on kicks are slightly more painful and uncomfortable. So... we'll see if I miss them.

Glad everything is coming together for you - I do not envy you one bit moving house so close to D-Day. Good excuse to get OH to do it all for you though while you supervise :)

Oh gosh Jupiter, that all sounds very scary. Hope everything is ok now and stays that way.

Hospital bags, nope, still not done that. I have a bag that I have thrown maternity pads, pants and a nightie in. But that's it. If anyone is buying pants, can I recommend you get black ones? That way if the lack of wings on pads cause some leakage at least the damage doesn't show up.

We do have the spare room sorted now, so we have somewhere to keep the baby's stuff. In terms of buying things, I just need to get a new mattress for the Moses basket and some bedding and we are done for essentials. Still need some little odds and ends, but nothing major. And I'm 35 weeks today!

jammiedodger2 · 23/01/2011 13:01

Am still here although thought I might not be. Had BH contractions every 8-9 minutes for over two hours last night and another couple of hours of them in the early hours. Have had a few this morning but no-where near as regular!Hoping it's just a third pregnancy thing.
Has got my DH running scared tho and after a week of picking my way accross floor boards he has finally started to make moves to re-lay the floor in our downstairs!
I will miss the kicks esp as I know it's my last pregnancy. Perhaps not the hurty ones tho.
take care ladies
jx

Larty74 · 23/01/2011 15:09

hey girls, was just browsing the mothercare website for hospital bag stuff and they do thier own brand maternity towels w/ wings

mixedmamameansbusiness · 23/01/2011 15:13

We have a yoga baby right now and it isnt so much kicks as my whole stomach moving. It does hurt sometimes but yes I will miss it as I know we dont plan to have anymore.

Also, after having both of mine I did still get some kicky feelings - the uterus going back or something was quite surreal.

We are ready I think - sure we still need bits... sheets (ours are slightly too big as for the boys cot beds). I think I have some breast pads and mat pads in the cupboard from last time, baby needs some clothes but essentially if he came tomorrow we have enough to get started.

I am ready now to not be pregnant anymore but not sure I am ready for a baby IYSWIM.

Medee · 23/01/2011 16:07

sorry to hear that Jupiter, but glad Larty is OK.

I've been doing some shopping too, but no hospital bag yet, other than some disposable pants. I do have a new swimsuit for a trip away - it's a tankini so could multi-task for a waterbirth if I can have one.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 23/01/2011 19:08

Thanks Catherine - sadly DH is still working abroad and literally back for 24 hours so am moving on my own Sad On the upside I haven't seen him since Christmas so can't wait till tomorrow. My mum is being a total star with all things flat and baby related but still can't wait till DH is back permanently (hopefully I'm time for me to scream at him whilst in labour!).

Why is Sun night tv always so rubbish? Can't get into Dancing on Ice and am struggling to find anything...

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 23/01/2011 19:24

Just spotted a typo in my post - "I'm" should be "in"...

gem3225 · 23/01/2011 19:28

HI EVERYONE, glad everyone is getting prepared. i went shopping for the hospital bag goodies, firstly i bought breast pads and maternity pads from mothercare, cost a fortune but felt happy i was actually doing something...then i went to asda and saw the same for 2 for £2.00.so i bought pads breast pads etc all over again.i will take back mothercare stuff i think, although the asda pads are like 30cm long and thick!!!! is this right? and no wings whereas the mothercare do the slimline ones with wings so maybe i will just take back the mc breast pads. god what a dilema.

better news is i now have a buggy, we got a second hand quinny buzz, grey for £100 and adpaptors for £15. My mum is going to buy a new carrycot though. bUT im really chuffed as it looks fab Grin

is anyone really achy in the pelvic area under bump? i feel quite waddley when i walk cus its painfull especially at night.

had 33 week app last wednesday and after 3 attempts she was bit happier with my blood pressure Smile.

sorry bout the long .......god i cant think of the word........post

KPidgeon · 23/01/2011 19:33

Hi all. Had a weekend of spending nice time with my husband- whilst we still can! Feel so tetchity about the flat and preparing everything though that I find it hard to relax in the flat so he has to keep hoiking me out for walks!

We've booked in for a tour of the maternity ward tomorrow night after work- so I can see where I'm going to give birth.

TMI warning- look away now if you don't want to read on! I decided to try to do the perineum massage that they recommend in my book but it's really hard to do it when you have a big bump in the way and what little stretch I did manage just hurt a bit and made me realise how painful it's going to be to squeeze a big baby head out of me. At 31 weeks the realisation has hit me!

I too am ready to hold him in my arms though and look at his little face for the first time. Hefty kicks here too though not painful. Played him some Bruce Springsteen this morning and he liked that.

Hope you all have good weeks and stay healthy.

sittinghippo · 23/01/2011 20:17

LOL KPidgeon what a lovely mental image I now have Grin
I am struggling to reach all the way down when I shave my legs, so am now panicking I will have hairy ankles when I go into labour! May have to test just how devoted DH is to me and see if he'll kindly help me out...

gem I have my 34 week appointment on weds, cant wait, I really want MW to tell me bubs is still head down, I think it is as I too get the achey pelvis and there's a big hard lump under my left rib, think its a bum Smile

Had a complete freak out moment last night, when i realised I can turn my belly button to an 'outy' now Shock OMG I haven't had an outy since I was prepubescent!!!

Muser · 23/01/2011 20:29

Look at it this way sittinghippo, I'm willing to lay good money on the fact that once you're in labour you really won't care about your ankles. Grin I've barely shaved mine all winter (leggings are great) and I really don't care anymore.

KPidgeon labour will be different though, you'll have hormones flying round you and can always have pain relief. I'm impressed you've given it a go. I thought about it but decided it just sounded too difficult.

1Catherine1 · 23/01/2011 20:31

Gem, I did the opposite and bought a new Quinny Buzz (gift from OH employer) and am buying the carrycot 2nd hand, actually I pressed "Buy it Now" for £40 about 30 minutes ago. I'm going to pick it up next weekend - all excited again. :)

Feeling more organised as the days go by. Spent the last 2 hours cleaning, wish I could say it was the nesting instinct but really it just looked like a bomb had hit and I was embarrassed to admit to living like this.

sittinghippo - not quite got an outy yet but depending on the way LO lies sometimes my previously very inny belly button is now pretty flat!

Anyone intending on getting a gym ball whatzit for later in pregnancy? When I went to the NHS antenatal class on Friday I was the only one who didn't have one when she asked. I'm wondering if it is a worthwhile purchase or not. Was also wondering on the size I should get if I do choose to get one. I'm only 5ft7 but always buy a long when buying trousers even though I'm not that tall otherwise they are just way too short - was wondering if appropriate ball size was more to do with leg length than overall height. Hmm

OP posts:
NowPanicAndFreakOut · 23/01/2011 20:57

KPigeon respect! I read the directions for that massage and just thought I'd never manage it Blush

On hairy legs my hair has all but disappeared! Normally have them waxed - but there's not enough to be bothered with. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for bikini which is a million times more stubborn than normal and I felt really sorry for the lady who made a valiant (if not entirely successful) attempt to wax it on Friday!

Muser · 23/01/2011 21:02

I already have a gym ball 1Catherine, I am sat on it right now! I love it. We use them in pregnancy pilates a lot. You might want to get a 75cm one, they're meant to be for people 5ft 8 and over, as you're borderline it might work better.

Larty74 · 23/01/2011 22:25

Kpidgeon at hospital the other day I had a full exam w/ speculum and all I can say is OW Shock and now having same thoughts as you. whilst all this was going on the lovely Dr/midwife were kindly saying "just breathe" good practice I guess!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 24/01/2011 10:20

Morning all....

MW appoitment tomorrow, DH off so coming along.

I waddle and feel like a hippo now and am quite eager to just get on with life now, everything seems to be on hold whilst we wait for LO.

I also got a little stuck in the bath yesterday - not literally because I was too big but more because I just coudlnt hoist myself to get out without it feeling quite painful. When I eventually managed I slipped - only hit my bum but still.

I have not touched my legs since being preg and I remember DH showing his undying devotion by actually helping me shave everything that I could not reach.

Medee · 24/01/2011 10:33

I?ve had MrM cut and paint my toenails for me already ? so I reckon that?s devotion for you! I had my legs waxed last week (I usually wax rather than shave) so definitely easier to have someone else do it!

I looked for perineal massage oil in Mothercare yesterday, having definitely seen it before, but couldn?t find it. It is on their website though, so must try to get some and start soon.

I have quite a deep belly button, so it is still an inny, though a lot shallower than it used to be!

am988 · 24/01/2011 10:37

Hello all,

Glad I found you again - thanks Catherine thought I lost you, although I haven't been posting, I've been reading and feeling reassured by your posts too. I'm 33 weeks, can't believe that now time is really going fast.

Haven't done much about hospital bag, except bought some bits and pieces here and there. I'm excited this is my last week at work, so yesterday I had to endure my last 'sunday night' until a year or so. Its great, cause i don't like sunday nights before work.

I feel generally ok, although bump gets stiff sometimes & its becoming ever so hard to do the simple daily tasks i normally do without thinking: such as putting on socks! We started antenatal classes with NCT and I'm very happy with them, they are very encouraging and good to meet first time mums to be as myself.

At times I must admit I get these scary moments thinking about labour - these normally happen at night when I'm frustrated cause I can't turn or need to go have some milk, or something.. but in the morning everything looks better: anyone feels the same?

KPidgeon · 24/01/2011 12:04

Sorry all- probably was too much info!

Thanks for the reassurance Muser- also, we will have no choice but to push at that stage will we. Unlike me chickening out of this stretch/massage!

Reading through the thread we are definitely all feeling larger and more cumbersome aren't we. I'm with Muser on the legs- I maybe shave once a month on a good month at the moment! But I'll try to de-fuzz as best I can before labour if I can..

Am- definitely- worries loom large in the night and stop me sleeping and then I feel far more capable and rational in the day.

Jenchandler · 24/01/2011 12:27

Hi everyone,

Glad to hear everyone else is waddling and struggling a bit now. Just did a mammoth stretch of 7days in a row in work - I finally have a day off and I am EXHAUSTED. Lying on the sofa today is very appealing! Only another 8 days till mat leave, woohoo! Am reading a fab book called tales of a midwife, really enjoying it - and very glad we are not giving birth in the 50's.

I completely understand about the nighttime worries. I get up to pee and then cannot get bk to sleep as I just lie in bed fretting. Silly really!

BTW, What are we supposed to wash baby clothes in - normal detergent or something else?
Hope everyone is doing ok xx

jeffily · 24/01/2011 13:20

Hi all

Jen you should use non bio on baby clothes as it is less likely to irritate the LOs skin. We have used non bio on everything now for a couple of years and it is pretty good really. Doesn't get quite as many stains out, but I have found that stains are a fact of life as a mother!

As for perineal massage- no thank you! I can't even reach that neck of the woods anymore, let alone start massaging it! Everyone's experience of childbirth is different, but I was lucky with DD and had a natural birth with no grazes or tears and hadn't even had one single ante natal class! I think if you can trust your body and the midwives you will be fine. I am sitting here drinking my raspberry leaf tea in the hopes of encouraging my LO to come at about 38 weeks and good and healthy. Would be very helpful for the house move if s/he did!

It's all starting to feel very real and close now. I've got out and washed and set up the moses basket and the baby seat. The rocker is currently taking a hammering from DD who loves it now, despite never being that keen as a baby! Hospital bag ready. Just waiting for some serious nesting to kick in and then I'll be all ready!

Oh, and I hadn't sorted out my legs since getting Aug till last week when I was going swimming and didn't fancy resembling a gorilla! So they aren't too bad now, but god only knows what my bikini line must be like as I can't see it to do anything about it. Ah well. I'll go back to my old hairfree self once I have my flat tummy back!

Hope you are all managing to get some rest. It's important now! xx

KPidgeon · 24/01/2011 13:46

jeffily- and others- when is it safe to start drinking raspberry leaf tea? I have some but don't want to bring anything on too early (am ony 31 weeks). Can look it up but thought I'd ask you experienced ladies!

Larty74 · 24/01/2011 13:46

Reading that book as well Jenchandler and really enjoying it but equally relieved its not the 50s! Almost finished with the whole trilogy. Also getting up to pee at 5:00am and not going back to sleep. aaaarrrgh.

Mothercare is the best. it might be a little more expensive than other shops but for all in one shop convenience its great! Got all my necessary padding for post baby as well as moses basket stand which I've successfully assembled by myself. My naughty cats of course were the first to try it out.

Looking forward to NCT class tonight. very pleased with mine, and will be a first for DH.

34 weeks today!

Medee · 24/01/2011 13:50

I?ll probably use Ecover on the baby stuff. Used to use it, but at a fiver a small box compared to the price Fairy is for a massive box, I moved away from it.
