Hattie i did shop around this year (usually too lazy/forgetful) both car and house insurance due same time and what i have saved has covered the payments on dfs new sofa's Grin result!!

Well, i think i may have just had first lot of heartburn, not sure but it is REALLY painful should it feel really tight and like someone squeezing under your ribs and back?? And weird feeling at base of throat?? Or am i having a heart attack!!!

Also chuck in a severe case of insomnia and i'm good to go today!!!!

Feel sorry for DS when he gets up and kids i look after cos i'm not going to be up for much today!!

Hope you all had better nights sleep than i did Grin

1Catherine1 · 02/02/2011 09:39

Aww Sam, sounds like a bad case of heartburn today for you. You could try out the ice cream idea? What better excuse is there to have ice cream for breakfast :)

I've decided that us pregnant woman are too hard on ourselves. Today I woke up feeling really horrible and sickly, decided it must be pregnancy related so have dragged myself into work. I actually suspect its that cold that's going around but at 7 o'clock in the morning who can tell. Easy work day today though since one year group have gone on a trip giving me an extra 2 hours free... imagine what I could do with that time! MN is probably the least productive of the things I could be doing Hmm

Hattie (love the name btw - its my cat's name Grin) I felt guilty for managing to change my MOT from February to March, I have no idea how you managed to get it to August!!
Kinda like the idea of moving it along a week in March though as currently it expires on payday :(

Crap night?s sleep here too sam, between back ache, sciatica and general baby-worries.

coraltoes · 02/02/2011 10:28

ugh awful night's sleep here too! Felt really hot and sicky at about 3am and struggled to nod off again. Finally got up around 7 feeling pants but seem to be recovering slowly. Starting to get more of these periody pains. Going to pop some maternity pads in my handbag i think, in case i get caught short whilst out in central London later today!

Get well feelings to all you girls!

Jenchandler · 02/02/2011 12:02

Hi all,

I'm finally on mat leave!! Thank god, I'm exhausted as not sleeping due to a combination of restless legs and heartburn. I plan on doing very little today, except for watching terrible day time TV.

Whats the ice cream idea?

I watched OBEM too - how annoying were the singing couple. Although, I think she was really nervous and had a horrible case of verbal diarrhoea. Amelia made me feel like I could do it though! Getting a bit nervous about the whole labour experience..!

TooImmature2BMum · 02/02/2011 12:14

Oooh, Coral, hope nothing kicks off just yet! Although it would be exciting to have our first birth.

Has anyone else got swollen hands? I woke up in the night with my ring finger throbbing, and I only got my engagement ring off with the aid of cold water and Bio Oil this morning. At the time my wedding ring was coming off okay, so I left it on (it is slightly bigger) but now it is stuck and I am at work and can't try oil. Sad I am trying to leave it alone and not mess with it, because every time I try to get it off and fail my finger gets redder and redder and more swollen! My hands don't look noticeably swollen, though, apart from that finger, so they must just be a little bigger - enough to make a fairly tight ring stick, but not enough to really show.

Sam, the heartburn feels like a horrible tight and acidy feeling right at the back of your throat. At least, mine does. I bought the biggest pack of Rennies you have ever seen yesterday in Tesco. It seems to work better than Gaviscon for me.

I am so sleepy today too. I can barely keep my eyes open, which is not good for trying to finish a list of tasks before I leave on Friday! I have abandoned even the easiest in favour of MN.

TooImmature2BMum · 02/02/2011 12:16

I forgot to say, there is a thread about OBEM on the Telly Addicts forum, and the actual male midwife from Monday's episode posted on it!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/02/2011 12:48

Afternoon ladies,

Much of the same here with regards to sleep. Managed the eye situation last night and oculd actually open them this morning, but last night needed to go to the loo 3 times - it seems one thing gets replaced with another.

I have also been having bouts of a really disgusting meatllic taste at night which is driving me round the bend. I have been eating vanilla icecream everyday and that has eased my heartburn/indigestion or whatever so thank you for that.

Just generally heavy and cumbersome here got a scan and MW appointment on Tuesday so a full baby day really.

Not very exciting at the minute I am afraid and I dont drive so have nothing to contribute to the tax/MOT convo except that although we strictly speaking cannot afford a car right now DH spends every night without fail looking at cars on the computer.

KPidgeon · 02/02/2011 13:31

Hi all,

The Polish girl on OBEM was lovely wasn't she- and what a sweet midwife. I'd be very happy if I had a nice chap like that looking after me.

The singing couple were very annoying but like you say- I think she was nervous.

Had my blood test for glucose/sugar this morning but no results for a week! So I'll be off cake and any refined carbs until then. Can't relax until I know that all is well. Humph!

Very tired today but I think that may be as a result of cutting back on all carbs yesterday and having to fast this morning until the blood test. I'm not convinced my doctor's recommendation to cut down on all carbs when pregnant is a good thing- surely we need brown bread/rice/wholemeal cereals to keep our energy levels up. Carrot sticks and hummus certainly didn't do it for me yesterday.

Reading through the thread people really are getting closer aren't they..

Coral keep us posted of any updates!

K

Jupiter118 · 02/02/2011 13:36

Crap night's sleep here as well - three wees - baby seemed to have feet in my cervix all night (pretty sure it is still breech) and pelvis generally seems to have seized up also. It is payback as the 2 previous nights I have slept straight through.

Only today, tomorrow and Friday at work - thank god - motivation levels lacking, but still seem to have lots on to do list. Got a scintillating tender question to answer on case management and the first draft of a business plan to write. Keep being asked - when are you finishing - could you just before you go. NO!!!!!!!

But as you see currently distracted by MN.

Jx

ps also still enduring the 'OMG you are huge comments when is it due?' Have taken to saying 4 weeks instead of 6.5, but soooo annoying.

Jupiter118 · 02/02/2011 13:38

K - a week seems a long time for no cake. Can't they hurry it along? Was it for a GTT? I went for one and then sent of the bloods at various intervals and said if no phone call by the end of the day to assume all was fine.

Hope you don't actually have to wait a week.

x

KPidgeon · 02/02/2011 13:55

Thanks Jupiter. Maybe I'll ring my doctor this week to see if they can tell me any sooner. Does seem like a long time..

Is GTT glucose in the blood? I didn't have a sugary drink or any of that process- they just took blood and will test for sugar/glucose in it.

StrangewaysHereICome · 02/02/2011 16:29

Rubbish night's sleep here too. I feel like I have hit the wall now with 3.5 weeks to go - eek! If I had the energy I would be getting quite excited now - I had a home visit from the mw today and she brought the gas and air - hooray. It seems so real now, but I have to get to midnight on Sunday so legs crossed til then Confused. The mw also said she was 90% sure the baby has turned, head down and no longer back to back - phew! Still having scan on Friday to be sure but that has really boosted me Grin. All that bum wiggling seems to have worked.

Baby is not engaged so hopefully there won't be an early surprise, but I think with later pregnancies this doesn't always happen in advance. It would be nice to relieve some pressure from my poor ribs and lungs though Wink.

Everything else is fine, bp up a bit but then it was a bit low before.

Loved OBEM on Monday, Amelia was amazing and I think I am everso slightly in love with Mr Midwife - how nice was he? Her mum was fab too.

Right I'll stop rambling now, I think I am getting a bit giddy Grin

K I hope you get your test soon and it's all okay for you.

coral I have been getting those cramps too and had lots of BH's last night. I am now sleeping on a waterproof mat in case of waters popping and carrying around pads just in case. Exciting and a bit scary - hope you are okay.

Jupiter118 · 02/02/2011 16:54

K - GTT is the long dull process where they test blood first then give vile sugary drink leave you for ages and then test blood again. You have to fast for 12 hours before. Hope you don't end up having to have one as v v v v v v v v v v dull (necessary I guess, but nonetheless).

All this talk of being at term and waterproof mats is quite scary!! Perhaps should pack things i have bought for the hospital bag???????

mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/02/2011 16:58

Interesting that they didnt do the sugary drink thing - how else do they expect to note your bodies reaction - isnt that the point (maybe I just have no idea which highly possible and quite likely Smile)

Well my MW just called to say that my blood test on Monday revealed that my iron levels are still really low (she said everything was low Confused) and has made me a consultant appointment for Wednesday - but now I dont have to see her on Tuesday. I feel tired and stuff but really not how I imagine someone with particularly low iroon should feel.

She mentioned the word "transfusion|" which has freaked me out slightly. Also I have never had to see a consultant before and am now worried that this action might impact on my desire to be in birthing centre rather than labour ward etc. I know we have to go with the flow and just do whats best and advised but this is my last baby and I was just hoping it would all be as close to perfect as can be in my mind. Hey ho.

Hope everyone is resting up.

coraltoes · 02/02/2011 19:00

Ooh i don't think it is all about to kick off or anything but realized it wouldn't be too dim to carry some pads!

Glad my vanilla ice cream suggestion has worked.

K pigeon...cereal is a good source of vit d and brown bread has folic acid so I don't quite get why you'd have to cut down. Hmm.

Right, dinner then extra eastenders!

KPidgeon · 02/02/2011 19:16

Thanks girls. Mixedmama just think they want to check whether sugar in urine means I also have sugar in blood. If not then nothing to worry about and it was just that my kidneys were doing a good job of expelling the sugar from all the cake I ate on Sunday. If there is glucose in my blood maybe then I'll have that horrid drink test! But I reckon I'll be okay because I don't have any other symptoms (extreme thirst etc)

Why is there a bonus Eastenders? Not complaining though!

Strangeways hope all stays good for you for a home birth- is that what you're aiming for? I love the idea of it but don't think we could do it in a rented flat- not sure my landlord would be happy about it. Would love to hear how it goes though.

  • I think it's a good thing that Mr Midwife on OBEM slipped in that he was married otherwise he would be receiving a LOT of fan mail right now!

My baby is definitely head down but I think he's sort of curved round at the moment with his little legs on one side as I don't have any rib pain or breathlessness (not complaining!) Does that maybe just happen in latter weeks (am only 32.5 weeks)?

2 and a bit weeks to go until ML/AL- cannot WAIT!

Have a nice evening all. x

angelbabe1982 · 02/02/2011 20:11

Think I'm nesting - I scrubbed (!) the bathroom with bleach today. It wasn't even needing it as DH cleaned it at the weekend. Flu almost gone but DS 2.11 seems to be getting something...
Hope everyone is doing well - not long now!

chickiewoo · 02/02/2011 20:22

Hello all - good to catch up on your news - exciting times - can't wait for our first birth announcement Smile

I'm in love with Mr. Midwife from OBEM too - there should be more like him in every hospital!

I too am suffering with rubbish sleep, so consequently am feeling soooooo tired during the day, but daren't take a nap for fear of not sleeping at night!

Am now taking Fybogel daily and also have a supply of Lactulose just in case I need that as well as am finding (sorry if this is TMI) that if I don't 'go' each day then I'm nauseous in the mornings and in agony and can hardly move.

On the plus side, my blood tests are all ok and my growth scan last week showed all was well and I'm due to see the consultant again tomorrow (may find out if I have to have another c-section).

Seem to have a serious case of nesting - I'm even washing cushion covers, as well as practically spring cleaning the kitchen after I've made a meal!

Love to you all x

Hattie05 · 02/02/2011 20:46

Hi all

bought my raspberry leaf tea today! Nearly didn't make it to the loo in time whilst out shopping, i was literally hopping and when i finally found one my 4 year old decided she needed to use it first! Does anyone else get sudden desperate urges to wee? i guess baby just gives my bladder a big kick making me need to go NOW!

Thanks for the heads up on OBEM will be off to read that thread!

Kpidgeon - Why does your landlord have to know about a home birth? Wink I've had two and i promise theres no mess - we buy the rolls of plastic sheeting which dp sticks down to the carpet and the midwives are amazing at keeping mess away.

Mixedmama - how low is your iron? Mines just dropped to 9.8 and mw says i have to get over 10 for home birth, but in same has happened with my other pg's and once the iron tablets kick in its always been ok. I can't say i feel any more tired than usual.

Have been trying to prepare some sort of essentials for the birth. Bought baby grows today, tried to buy paper knickers but why oh why does everywhere i look only have size 10 or size 18??? i want more size 14!

Anyway rest as much as you can everybody! xx

niamh29 · 02/02/2011 21:18

He he, baby on bladder is not fun Hattie, I find when I stand and walk around I get a mild urge to
pee and I always have to stop and think hmmmmm do I need to pee or can I wait for another while?

I have a scan tomorrow, hopefully baby will be head down but it's still quite early for baby to stay down but it'd be a good start.

Muser · 02/02/2011 21:19

Don't do paper knickers! Just go to Primark/Peacocks/etc and get a big jumbo pack of black cotton ones for a few quid. You can then throw them out if they are too manky to face washing and they'll be comfier. And definitely black, as they'll not show up stains if you do wash.

Hattie05 · 02/02/2011 21:24

Oh i'm a fan of the paper ones muser! Just for the birth and the first couple of days when bleeding is heavy. I go through lots, cos i just bin them each time i go to the loo.

I always laugh when i was in labour with second baby, i had fortunately put paper knickers on when i realised i was in labour. Midwives had only just arrived - it was home birth - and i started to push, i remember turning to the poor student and growling "rip my knickers off" cos i was on knees with head crowing unable to change position to remove underwear! I of course knew they were easy to rip, but the student looked startled and the other mw's shared a giggle with my dp.

What do people generally do with clothing once they are in labour? I always wonder this. Has anyone actually given birth inside clothing etc? or down the loo? lets hear some amusing stories.

Hattie05 · 02/02/2011 21:25

Obviously the head was crowning not crowing Blush

chickiewoo · 02/02/2011 21:44

p.s. forgot to say that my belly button is on the turn and is half way to becoming an 'outie' Smile - actually it feels a bit tender to be honest - is this normal?

As for pants - I've done the same as last time and bought Asda smart price - 5 x pairs for 2.50 - which will be binned once they've had their use!
