New thread here for those final few weeks (fingers crossed!)

It's hard to think about anything else, isn't it? So strange to think at any point, your whole life will suddenly change. I too am determined not to go overdue but like the idea of continuing to book luxurious presents to myself so have something else to focus on. Except the house repossession might not be so fun...

CupcakesHay · 18/01/2011 15:13

HURRAH! Red heads rock ladybuzz - well, technically I?m strawberry blonde? but BRILL! And good for you posting so soon! Really pleased for you and all your DCs and DH!

Sitting here eating digestive biscuits... mmm... is 5 too many? Grin

Oooh - crysty - a heart shaped uterus ? googled too ? wow. Lucky you?ve got this far. Just think, even if you have to have c-s ? the main thing is the baby will be fine.

I?m going to ask m/wife when they do sweep ? only found out about induction times back in July ? don?t think I even knew the term sweep then!

And is somebody getting impatient fuzzy?

Evil Wii Fit ? I hope you called it plastic in retaliation cyber - and have to agree ? my money?s on baby coming before your hair appt.

Thinking of booking myself in for pedicure ? my heels are looking minging (although toes are still glittery!) ? and I was thinking ? I might have to shove these in some poor midwife?s face ? and I?d be dead embarrassed!

Don?t worry about being clingy ? I?m sure my poor DH will think he?s got a lump attached to him when he finally gets here. It?s understandable isn?t it ? emotions are going to be all over the shop. At least you let him go eventually Wink

flora ? thanks for all the details ? I think I?m not against c-section ? just scared! But actually, reading your account makes me feel better. The only thing I?d worry about is whether I could have skin to skin contact ? and the whole not being able to pick baby up cos of stitches. How is little flora ? did you tell us his name? I was thinking it began with J ? but can?t remember ? and too lazy to trawl back. Getting lazier by the day I think Grin

And what house repossession cyber - have I missed something? Is everything OK? Smile

Flora

Thank you so much for your experience with the CS. I think if I'm honest, I'm a bit scared of it (not really had much time in hospitals before).

however, your account sounds rather more relaxing than vaginal delivery! glad you've recovered well too, and as you say, it was best for your little one too.

i think i'll do some more reading to prepare - just in case. think i read somewhere about no nail varnish, shave before etc...

it's all wonderfully complicated this baby malarky!

Smile
cyberfairy · 18/01/2011 16:07

Cupcakes-I was joking about the house repossesion-well unless I continue to spend at the rate I am-being at a loose end and near shops is proving dangerous. Have you considered one of those fishy pedicures Cupcakes? They seem to have cropped up all over the place?
Baby better not come before Thursday-want to be a yummy mummy dammit Wink
Thanks for your post Flora-it's encouraging reading about so many people who have had positive experiences. I am currently reading a book about water births but there is only one at the hospital I am going to and everyone in my antenatal class seems to want to use it so trying not to get my hopes up.
Going to have to miss a breastfeeding workshop I wanted to go to as it clashes with the midwife drop in clinic and no midwife at doctors can see me until Monday-not been checked for a fortnight as told I did not need to be but think at this late stage (38 weeks) I want to be checked out sooner rather than later.

CupcakesHay · 18/01/2011 16:49

PHEW cyber thought i'd miss something (well - apart from the tongue in cheekness!) - bit thick today obviously!

Yeah - no nail varnish is in case you have C-Section so they look at your toes to check your blood or something (you know, to make sure you're not dying or what have you) - but i'm leaving mine on - and then if they wanna take it off - they can! Glittery toes will keep me happy.

So - can't decide about nursing bra - do i just order one now...? And the one I have 40ff - is really really tight and red/rubbing around chest - so shall i try and find a 42? a 44?? Same cup size - the cup size felt fine? Oh god- i'm rubbish at bras - any advice??? I HATE BRAS! Angry

travispickles · 18/01/2011 16:53

Well still no sign! I have had raspberry leaf tea, pineapple, some pretty uninspired sex (grief!) and will try a curry tonight. Am aware that none of these will work, this baby is living the high life inside - probably knows that the number of biccies will dry up once she comes out! - so will be at hospital tomorrow for induction chat/ sweep methinks.

Fuzzywood · 18/01/2011 17:02

Impatient me?!? Oh it's gone way past that Grin
I just hope it's not as late as DD who was 9 days late really want to meet my little one now.
Do you know how early after your due date they're likely to offer you a sweep Travis? here it's usually 41 weeks at the earliest though sure if I asked they would do it sooner. Have been trying not to fixate on the due date but it's so hard not too.
Texted DH earlier cos I was bored and he got all panicy for a minute, bless.
I'm fielding all phone calls at the moment as the 'have you had it yet' calls have started!
Wonder if Bubba's Internet is still not fixed or if something is going on? You there Bubba?

gallicgirl · 18/01/2011 17:08

Hi all. yes today is my due date but no sign yet. DP has day off work so we've been out running errands.

I was longing for pate so I've made my own peppered mackerel pate to tide me over until I can have the real thing. It's pretty good on some lovely wholemeal bread.

It's nice to see everyone else is trying to fill in the time until babies arrive. Hopefully not too much longer for us all.

I've had two emails to check if baby arrived and a text from my mum. There's been a lot of advice on facebook to have sex. Not sure I can be bothered at this stage!

Oh and Argos were lovely and happily gave us a credit note for the duplicate baby monitor we were sent so at least I feel we can buy a useful present with the money. :)

RockLover · 18/01/2011 17:25

Congratulations Ladybuzz, your dd sounds adorable. I am starting to warm to the idea of going into labour as I am getting pretty fed up being pregnant.

I have constant heartburn and I had a bit of a panicky turn when I picked DD up this afternoon, so I REALLY need to get rid of these pregnancy hormones. Plus I'm eating far too much junk and expanding by the day.

I just want things over and done with now.

RunningKatie · 18/01/2011 17:42

Curry here tonight too, and the walk that was scheduled for earlier is happening in a bit too, I thought I'd take DP with me just in case I run out of puff. :)

Cupcakes, I'd been thinking of a pedicure too, but as I've never had one I'd be a bit grumpy if it has to be taken off for a CS.

I keep being asked about what I want for my birthday, but I can't think about anything that's not baby related. Confused

Crystylline · 18/01/2011 18:44

pedicure is still on my list of nice things, or a foot massage at least.

hurrah for argos voucher gallic - that's a nice treat.

pie and mash for tea - comfort food requirement as it's freezing and fire's not warmed up yet.

then telly, bath, dreams of babies etc etc...

oh hurry up bump! Grin

FloraPost · 18/01/2011 18:53

Cupcakes and Crysty yes indeed, shaving is required. No-one said anything to me about nail varnish, actually. I don't know how other hospitals do it, but DS was put on my chest when they had finished sewing me up so we had skin to skin. We were then taken to a recovery ward with soft lighting where a midwife looked after us 1:1 for an hour, including getting DS to bf for the first time. You can definitely hold the baby, just not pick them up, so you need someone to pass him or her to you - but the midwives should do that.

Cyber shame you had to miss the bf workshop but I'm sure you'll be fine. The NCT has a fab bf helpline if you run into problems - 0300 330 0771.

Crystylline · 18/01/2011 18:58

flora i'm so pleased you've been so well looked after. you're definitely re-assuring me.

hope your LO is doing is doing well. x

CupcakesHay · 18/01/2011 19:51

Aaah - flora you make it sound lovely! Well - apart from the slicing open...

Brill about the vouchers gallic and love the fact that baby travis and baby gallic are just hanging around enjoying biscuits.

I've eaten far too many biscuits today. feeling quite stuffed now!

running i'm thinking more about the pedicure for getting rid of my minging heels rather than the painted toes... and as for birthday - a bit dull - but what about some clothes vouchers - so that when you get back to your old size you can get some FAB new clothes. Or make up? (is that dull?)

My mum said to me tonight - Isn't time flying lately - and I was NO! It's dragging - it feels like this january has been going on for months and months! Wink and this is just me waiting for DH - i can't even imagine being at the stage of waiting for the baby properly!

saltnvinigarcrips · 18/01/2011 20:41

Massive congratulations flora. Baby sounds beautiful - I love red hair and it is all the fashion now; Rihanna and Aliona from Strictly Come Dancing. Was actually thinking of dying my hair this week myself as bored with my look.

Thanks for all your kind words about my bum problem folks. I've been feeling sorry for myself all day and at one point worked myself up to a mild hysteria before forcing myself to look at myself in the mirror - a trick I use as it's impossible to cry looking at yourself because you look ridiculous!! Top tip!

Anyway, I spent most of my afternoon in the bath bonding with my bump.

cupcakes i rang up bravissimo for advice re: nursing bras. They said to go up 2 cup sizes because your boobs will massively swell when the milk comes in. They said to stay the same back size but if you are really uncomfortable then maybe go up to a 42.

Anyway I ate some pineapple tonight but not sure how much you are supposed to eat for it to be effective. I've also been dancing to MTV to try and get things moving.... I wonder who'll be next.

LadyBuzz · 18/01/2011 20:47

Hey ladies, i'm just checking in while I wait for my big fat gypsy weding to start. DD is adorable and a really good feeder.

Her name is Kali Margaret Briany and she has loads of hair.

ELCS was fab and really relaxed, MWs were all lovely too.
In a bit of pain with it being the third and am dehydrted so still hooked up to drips etc but very very happy.

saltnvinigarcrips · 18/01/2011 20:50

Sorry I meant ladyB but obviously belated congratulations to you too flora. This thread is mental.

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 18/01/2011 21:25

Congratulations LadyB - def. a girl then? :) How do you pronounce Kali? Is it like Kay-lee? Lovely names and hope the drips help the dehydration.

Good to hear from others who have graduated - we'll soon be changing this to a postnatal thread! Very, very Envy of you all in the grad. room, but very, very, very happy for you all. My friend's baby had tongue-tie (cupcakes it's when the bit of skin that attaches the bottom part of your tongue to the bottom part of your mouth is a bit longer than normal, which means tongue movement is restricted afaik) - and after tongue tie bit was snipped baby fed way better and was much more content.

My internet finally fixed - waited in all morning then had to go to hospital appt, and they left a note while I was out to say they could fix it from outside and it would be fixed by this evening!! Angry

No sweep for me today but mw was wonderful and has booked me on reserve lists for 'complementary' medicine tomorrow or Friday (as long as some of the other mums-to-be on the list have a baby beforehand and free up some space) - means I should be getting massage and reflexology and a sweep either Weds or Fri! Fingers crossed! Also have an appt with day assessment unit tomorrow now to discuss my 'plan of care' as they had sweet FA for me after today's appt!!?! Hmm But as I say, MW was fab and rang everyone and anyone she could to bump me into their radar.

Right, Big Fat Gypsy Weddings calls, so I'm offski - but nice to be able to read posts within minutes and write a decent(ish) reply, if a bit of an epic!! :o

CupcakesHay · 18/01/2011 21:41

salt pleased you are feeling a bit better- and yes - I do the crying in the mirror trick! Grin

And what a LOVELY name ladybuzz - and love that you are checking in from hospital! Do you have internet access? or is it through your phone?

And very nice to see you back - properly posting bubba! Like the sound of the alternative medicine - and thanks for info on tongue tied. Doesn't seem as bad as I was thinking!

Oh - and thanks for advice on bras salt - i am getting bit worried, so might get my mum to measure around the chest/band bit. (lucky her!)

it's actually quiet on here which means either
a) everyone popping babies out
or
b) Good TV! And everyone probably went shopping for chocolate!

RockLover · 18/01/2011 22:16

I'm not popping out a baby yet Cupcakes! Just watched My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding whilst drinking hot chocolate and eating gooey chocolate cake (supplied by my lovely DP).

Think baby is having a sugar rush now as he's having a good old wriggle lol. I made the cot up today and it looks really nice, also feels a bit scary looking at it as I know I need to produce a baby to put in it lol.

LadyBuzz · 18/01/2011 23:15

Bubba its pronounced the same way as Carly kah-lee.

cupcake the hosp has free internet access, its great!

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 19/01/2011 08:23

Hey Rock you must have been snuggled up next to me as I also had a mahoosive hot choc (with whipped cream and marshmallows) while watching MBFGW and this little one wriggled away contentedly with its sugar hit!

LadyB I realised after I'd posted that it was probably more likely to be pronounced Carly. Even better than kay-lee. Not tempted to call her Red or Scarlett then? :o

How long will they keep you in and are the boys coming in to meet her today? Sooooooooo jealous of you!! :)

Salt love the dancing to MTV - did it work though?!?

crystyll rock gallic & Fuzzy I'm shouting at babycrystyll, babyrock, babygallic and babyfuzz to get a move on and come and play - (please reciprocate!)

cupcakes I'm sending definite 1st Feb vibes to babycupcake to stay put :o

Fuzzywood · 19/01/2011 08:33

Come on babyBubba!
Still no sign here yawn! I don't have a patient bone in my body so this is torture Grin
Just done the nursery run so going back to bed. How's everyone doing today?

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 19/01/2011 09:03

Just done the nursery run so watching One Tree Hill Hmm

Running out of things to do in the house. I could clean the floors and the bathroom, but really that's a bit too much like hard work :o

I have moved on to photo albums. After that (and I'm nearly done), that's pretty much everything I could do well...

Soooo impatient too! Hmm

come on fuzzybaby and bubbababy!!
