New thread here for those final few weeks (fingers crossed!)

OP posts:

RunningKatie · 18/01/2011 10:02

Argghh, first of the "have you had it yet" texts from my sister who really should know better and an email from one of my friends.

Apparently we're going on a trip out to Halfords for DP to do some work research, so I get to nip to Boots to look at baby things and then maybe I can direct him home via Starbucks for a hot chocolate Grin

Might try dusting today as the mark I made on the tv is still there.

OBEM wasn't too bad last night was it? Much better than last week.

Am liking the idea of a second breakfast Fuzzy - might do the same.

RockLover · 18/01/2011 10:15

Hmmm, I'm still hungry and could do with a third breakfast (had 2 biscuits first thing). However, I need cake, which I don't have any of and I can't be arsed to walk into town to get some.

Bummer!

FloraPost · 18/01/2011 10:25

Wow, what a busy thread, it's taken me last night and this morning to catch up!

Huge congratulations to Zippy and Mimou, and also to LadyB by now. How exciting that more babies are popping.

I have been interweb-free since Tuesday last week as DS was readmitted to hospital and I stayed in with him. The Down's meant feeding exhausted him so he wasn't getting enough food when we first came home and lost 1lb in his first 6 days Shock. He was put on a drip, fed through a tube and also put under a UV lamp for jaundice, which got worse after birth due to not eating enough. He is now feeding much better as well as being much more calm and alert. We were discharged last night, thank god, I was startting to go mad in there.

V. impressed by you curry eaters - I coulod never have countenanced such things while DS was still on the inside. I did miss it though and we are planning a massive hot curry with friends v. soon.

RockLover · 18/01/2011 10:31

Aw Flora, that must have been hard, but glad to hear DS is eating better :). I bet he's a gorgeous little thing, hope you now get some lovely, quality bonding time at home.

Hi all,

Have tried to catch up but struggling - wonderful to hear more babies coming. Congrats to Mimou and Lady B by now.

I've had a crazy few days, ended up being in hospital for 3 nights, had a bit of a tough delivery in the end, so needed some time to recuperate and the little chap has had problems feeding. I was desperate to come home and am so happy to be back home with my gorgeous boy now.

I have landed on another planet but it is the most wonderful and overwhelming thing ever - am so excited for you all yet to drop!!

The little monkey isn't breastfeeding grrrr but got treated for tongue tie yesterday so hopefully that will help sort it.

I'll be checking in for all your news even if not posting much.

Crystylline · 18/01/2011 11:55

aw! all the new mummies are here!

nice to see you zippy, flora and jjkm!

hope ladyB's cs went well and she's also cuddling a lovely new baby.

i'm thinking about this new planet that I'm going to be joining soon - excited and nervous at the same time.

jsut got back from MWs. all fine, but bump is still v. lopsided and agreed that I've probably got a bicornuate uterus, which might be a problem in labour....

watched OBEM last night for the first time. wish i looked liked Lydia (and have her labour). what a lovely moment!

anyway, best to all - those waiting and those snuggling x

CupcakesHay · 18/01/2011 11:55

Sooooo nice of you mums to pop in and say hello and lovely to hear your news Smile - pleased both Flora's Boy and zippy's Boy are doing better - mut be rough trying not to worry... nad being stuck in hospital. And lvoely to see you too jjkm - are the twins holding their own? I bet they are!

And sooooo knowledgeable jjkm - i checked pronounciation: Kett-zal-coe-at-luss - and yes means Feather God... "Quetzalcoatlus was one of the largest flying animals to have ever inhabited the Earth. Its wingspan was over 40 feet in width. Quetzalcoatlus' neck alone was 10 feet long. This huge flying reptile is believed to have been a scavenger, picking at the carcasses of dead dinosaurs on the ground."

So there - in case your DCs ever ask!

zippy what's tongue tied in babies? What's the treatment?

Well - i woke up at 10.45 - as Halfrods were calling to say my car seat is being despatched tomorrow (PHEW). And then had marmite nad toast - but not starving - as had ham, cheese and a bit of bread at 2am... Blush

And even though it's a lovely sunny day, my mum is feeling "delicate" after 3.5 pints last night - so she can't face going shopping Grin

And stuck a photo on FB of me looking pregnant - of course, had to wait til yesterday when I had make up and pretty hair - i've looked MINGING the rest of the week - but all my friends said i'm blooming - so that's made me feel better. I'm sure if I stuck a picture of what I look like at 4am for one of my millions of toilet trips - they might not be so complimentry Grin

fuzzy make the most of your quiet day and have a bit of a relax and running jealous of hot chocolate at starbucks!

saltnvinigarcrips · 18/01/2011 12:20

Lovely to get an update from zippy flora and jjkm. Are the twins back home with you yet jjkm? Bet you can't wait! flora good to hear your little boy is feeding better now. zippy glad to hear you're feeling better and back home.

I'm feeling pretty miserable at the minute and been in tears already this morning on account of my pile. Can't do anything (including sit). Thinking of ringing doc and asking for sceriton or something like that as getting desperate. Just feel very down despite the fact it is gorgeous and sunny here too. At least the reste of my tesco shop arrived this morning. Hopefully my nursing bra will arrive too. Hope noone else is unlucky enough to suffer with piles - it really is unbelievably debilitating
:(

Crystylline · 18/01/2011 12:33

salt you poor thing. I'm guessing you've tried the bran flakes, lactulose etc and a cushion?

I had a v. minor case of it early in my preg, and it was horrible. Can't imagine how much worse it is this late on.

is walking any good? that might be good for bump as well.

cupcakes i don't have many pics of me preggers. keep meaning to, but not very camera friendly on any normal occasion!

RockLover · 18/01/2011 12:40

Aww poor you salt. I do know that drs tend to be reluctant to do much about piles before you give birth apart from prescribing creams and suppositories etc.

To be honest I had horrid piles with DD (including varicose veins on my vulva..bleugh) and I ended up trying different off the shelf treatments until I found a combination that worked for me. Also are you going to the loo ok? If not up your fibre, or ask the dr to prescribe a mild laxitive so that you are not having to strain when you go to the loo.

Another tip I read was that when you go for a "no 2", put your feet on a box or small stool as that position helps things move easier with less effort on your part and thus puts less pressure on the pile.

Hope this helps.

CupcakesHay · 18/01/2011 12:44

aaaah - salt poor poor poor you Sad - def call your doctor - there must be somethign they can do? What date is your EDD? You poor love. Does putting ice cubes up there help to numb it? or can you buy a gel ring to sit on?

Or does going swimming help ease pressure.

I didn't realise it was getting you down that much - i wish i could give you a big hug. It's awful when you get to this stage and something gets you so so so down and there's not much to be done.

CupcakesHay · 18/01/2011 12:48

Oh and crysty I only have a few pictures of me being pregnant, usually, cos I scrapbook I take a lot more pictures of "things and events" but i've been a bit lax lately.... so i just thought i'd want a few pictures of me looking pregnant. I think it's cos i'm a big girl, so it's taken AGES for me to look pregnant (well, in my eyes anyhow) - plus i wanted to send pic to DH so he remembers what I look like! ha ha!

CupcakesHay · 18/01/2011 12:53

gallic just realised - isn't today your due date?

Any signs?

RunningKatie · 18/01/2011 13:33

Lovely to see you all Flora, Zippy and jjkm - so nice to get updates on all the little ones. :)

Hope LadyBuzz has graduated now!

Salt, I hadn't realised how bad piles were, you poor thing. Hope your able to get the Doc to give you something to help.

Crysty I'd never heard of bicornuate uterus so I've had to google it. What kind of problem could it cause?

Have been a bit clingy today, had to sit giving DP a cuddle after lunch till he managed to untangle himself and get back to work. Feeling better now, I think I'll walk to the library to get some sunshine and fresh air too.

Cupcakes, I saw my NCT class leader yesterday and she told me I was blooming, whereas apparently I looked exhausted before Christmas! I'm going to get DP to take another pic of me after my haircut on Friday as I confidently predict this baby isn't arriving any moment soon. The only pic I don't seem to have is one of him and I together since I got a really visible bump.

LadyBuzz · 18/01/2011 13:42

hello ladies,i have a baby girl! born at 11.24 6lb 1oz. she is a red head and gorgeous.

Crystylline · 18/01/2011 13:50

hurrah!

red heads rock!! (says a fellow ginger!)

massive congrats

RunningKatie · 18/01/2011 13:51

Wuhoo, many congratulations LadyBuzz - wonderful news. :)

I am not jealous

Crystylline · 18/01/2011 13:56

katie well, the shape of my uterus means the baby has less space and gets a bit scrunched up. normally babies are born prem (which explains my three early labour warnings).

MW says he's in an ok position, but need to be careful he doesn't get stuck in labour.

so, been advised to make sure hospital staff are very aware and that i have good monitoring. worst case, it'll be a c-section, which i'd like to avoid, but if it's the best for the baby, then so be it really.

so, when ladyB has a few secs, I'll be asking about how her cs went... or anyone else that's had one??

FloraPost · 18/01/2011 14:03

Hurray LadyB, well done! Hope the CS went smoothly and that the midwives look after you well.

cyberfairy · 18/01/2011 14:15

Congrats to the new mumsSmile
I thought something might be happening on the way back from Sainsburys when I suddenly felt like I had been punched in the groin but nothing else has happened. Not quite as desperate for him to come out asap as booked a full head of highlights for Thursday to treat myself as the wii fit called me fat yesterday. Any excuse...
The lovely sunny day has sadly shown up the house to be surprisingly dusty and messy. I think I shall ignore it, wait for flattering dim light and read a nice book.

travispickles · 18/01/2011 14:16

Ladybuzz fantastic news!!!

Fuzzywood · 18/01/2011 14:21

Congrats LadyB
lovely to see all the new mums too, glad things are now going more smoothly for you. Very Envy your little ones have arrived, one day overdue here and impatient already. MW will do a sweep next Tues if no movement I might go mad by then!
Glad the sun is out today though.

FloraPost · 18/01/2011 14:25

Hi Crysty, I had one. It was very relaxed, very quick [wheeled down to theatre 7:30am, DS born at 8:00am] and actually quite enjoyable Hmm. I can honestly say that the most painful part was having a venflon put in my hand for the drip. The spinal they give you numbs pain from the chest down, but you can stil feel pressure. They used a cold water spray to test if the anaesthetic had taken - it had worked if I could feel the pressure of the water but not the temperature of it iyswim. There were loads of people in the room; anaesthetists, surgeon, paeds, etc. DP was with me the whole time and held DS as soon as he was out, and I was able to see the paed checking him over. They put a paper screen up between us and the business end so DP didn't actually see DS coming out or the stitching up. I was picking up DS that night, walking about (although shouldn't have been) 17 hours after the op, up and dressed the morning after, and left hospital 36 hours after surgery. Standing and sitting upright have been fine throughout, sitting in deep chairs, lying down and turning over in bed were painful for a while, but less than 2 weeks later I don't have any pain. A few hospital types have commented on how neat my scar is although i think it looks a bit rank. I have lost some feeling around the scar, but that slowly seems to be returning. Going to the loo has been completely fine.

The choice I had was either the c section or being induced overnight without DP being allowed to stay with me. The c section was definitely the right choice for me and I am lucky to have recovered so well. Given the problems DS has had, I also think that the c section gave us the best start in terms of DP & I not being utterly knackered at the beginning of his life.

Sorry for the essay - hope it helps a bit Confused. I know many people are against c sections, being major surgery and whatnot, but I didn't understand that view beforehand and with the benefit of experience, still don't.

Crystylline · 18/01/2011 14:27

cyberfairy a fiver says you go into to labour on thursday before your hair appointment!

fuzzy i'm trying not to think about going overdue and have stopped saying what my due date is now. it's become "end of jan-ish" to anyone who asks! Grin

i'm sure bump will be on the way soon - just keeping you in suspense in the meantime x
