It's not crap advice Boo. I am just weird. Grin

I have been sitting on my ball and listening to the hippo cd. I swear Bob shifted down a bit when she started talking about going into labour. Lots of deep breathing I think, reclaim some lung capacity so Bob shifts down to find more space.

Does anyone else find it impossible to breathe in through their nose and out through their mouth? It makes me feel faint, so I have to ignore that bit.

Muser · 01/01/2011 23:25

On a positive note, I have been reading the thread about hating your pregnant body shop and realising I absolutely adore mine. I wonder if it's because I'm not very slim normally, so it's less of a shock? But I love my bump, I think it's a very good one. And I always think other pregnant women look wonderful as well. Pregnant is a good look.

Muser · 01/01/2011 23:29

Cluster post alert!! Where is Stewpot? She has been most quiet. CAAAAASSSSS!

Medee · 01/01/2011 23:43

Muse you have my utmost sympathies - I have backache in the exact same spot. Thankfully the ball seems to be helping, plus a hot water bottle when I go to bed.

Muser · 01/01/2011 23:54

Glad the ball is helping Medee. I think I need to blow mine up a bit more as it's not helping much. I read one thing that said hips and knees should be a 90 degree angle, and another that says hips should be 10cm above knees. I might try blowing it up some more and see if it helps.

ginhag · 02/01/2011 09:01

muse if you sit upright then your bump is directly under the rib, hence the pressure. Weird as it sounds (cos we're always told to sit up straight) you may find sitting back more helps. You need a cushion or something to support small of back. Don't do it for too long as the downside is it is shit for lower back, but physio recommended it as best way to sit to take pressure off rib.

2 more things- 1)fold your arms in front of you, one forearm on top of the other. Keep arms folded and raise over head. Repeat 20 times. 2) raise arm on painful side over your head, reaching over toward other side, whilst dropping other arm down towards the floor (both are about opening up ribcage to give more space n less pain, hope my descriptions make sense.)

Oh, the other thing is that an ice pack helps for temporary relief, and if there is inflammation will help get rid. Put on the bit of you back where the rib goes toward spine for 10 mins or so. If you're in a lot o pain it's surprisingly pleasant!

Hope some of this helps. I know my rib thing is slightly different, but the things that make it worse/better would be the same I reckon. It all makes sense...

By the way, any FESHES/2nd timers.... When did your bump drop? If it dropped early did that have any relation to how early you laid?

I dont think I dropped at all last time, don't remember it anyway. However this time I have noticeably dropped, it happened just before 32 weeks which seems quite early. Prob means sod all, but does feel weird...and I'm curious.

Medee · 02/01/2011 10:15

I'd definitely second trying to blow it up more. I thought I had it all the way, but my hips were below my knees, so MrM had a go and he got loads more air in it. There is a guide in the packaging which says a 65cm ball should have a diameter of 204cm and I was nowhere near that. Eventually we got closer and I felt that my hips were finally above my knees.

CluckyKate · 02/01/2011 10:17

Mine's dropped Gin - am 35 weeks and has been low for a few weeks now. Head not engaged though but still walking with a pronounced waddle. Much less backache this time too - was completely unable to sit on sofa with DD at this stage but am quite comfy slumped in my armchair proppped up with a dozen cushions.

Don't think this one will be early but have a strong feeling he'll arrive pretty close to due date so won't be induced this time.

rocketleaf · 02/01/2011 11:05

Morning all (just) mahoosive sleeps here, feel so much better!

Sorry you are in both in pain meds and muse no practical advice here but lapping it all up for later, just wondering about balls (snigger, am sorry very juvenile), are these normal exercise balls or do you have to get a special preggo ones? All this hips above knees stuff is very similar to alexander technique advice for general back health as well.

score I'm the same superstitious wise, am itching to buy some stuff already but am hanging back, and have also set myself a target that I'm not allowed to buy anything until I have sorted out this hell hole of a room so it can all get put away properly. carrot, meet stick. sorry to hear TYF is in pain :( get him to suck a clove?

Any gusset watch update the morning pol? hope your absence this morning is cos things got moving over night rather than you are just even more lazy than me!

After not feeling anything for a week, sprout is definitely on the move again today, I can feel him wriggling as I type :o :o :o

LadyGoneGaga · 02/01/2011 11:07

Don't think mine really did drop and he never engaged (just got huger and huger - think I was carrying a lot of water as well as was massive and when my waters were broken I visibly deflated, was well weird). But I went into labour on due date in any case.

Medee · 02/01/2011 11:10

There are proper preggo balls, but at Muse's recommendation I got a cheapie normal gym ball for about a quarter of the price. It does say "not for use in pregnancy" but that's just arse-covering (though check the weight limits.)

Muser · 02/01/2011 11:17

I have pumped up the ball some more and it does feel better. I highly recommend getting a proper two handle, floor standing bike pump to do the pumping. If you know any keen cyclists they ought to have one. Mine went up in about 5 minutes.

I think the only actual difference between a birthing ball and a gym ball is marketing, price, and gym balls come in 55cm size but birthing balls start at 65cm. The birthing ones do claim to be anti-burst, to stop it exploding under you. But if you've ever tried to deflate a gymball you'd know it takes days. Therefore even at your most pregnant you ought to be able to get off it.

SilverSky · 02/01/2011 12:00

As per GooGooGaGa I just got huger and huger no noticeable drop and I was also carting about blessed with lots of water hence the mahoosive girth!!

Indeed where's the lovely cassidy?

rocketleaf · 02/01/2011 12:12

steeeeeeeewwwwwwwPOT?

ok so as long as it 65 cm I should be reet. ta ladies.

Medee · 02/01/2011 13:11

the size of ball depends on your height. 65cm does to 5'8".

Casserole · 02/01/2011 15:11

You are all v kind to miss me. Am trying to spend less time online at the moment, not least because I am revising (again) and far too prone to being distracted Grin

I am, however, checking in regularly at the moment mainly to see what's going on over there with that there Polpot - WHO, I notice, is very quiet so far today......

Medee · 02/01/2011 15:59

nothing since 4pm yesterday, mmm...

maswera · 02/01/2011 16:18

Blimey, it's not having a baby that takes up loads of time - it's trying to keep up with you lot Grin Was at my sister's for a few days over Christmas, which was just great as we could lounge around and eat, not worrying about cooking/cleaning/shopping etc. Plus lots of family to look after baba - and admire how fabulously gorgeous he is Grin Awww, I am just besotted with him, he's truly the bizniz. He's even cute when he's crying at 3am having just pissed all over himself and the bed.

Rooting for Pol now - I know exactly how you feel my luvver, like they're never going to come out at all. Hoping for some news from you soon xxx

Happy new year & pink gin to the rest of yers
