MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

im still undecided about the type of birth i'd like.

All my labours have been quick very straightforward affairs. I like to stay at home as long as poss. so always at least 7cm dilated when i gt there.

Had no pain relief with ds1 at all, had gas and air with ds2. Had wanted home birth with him but was group b strep. With DS3 had been poorly with sinusitis and chest infection was dead on my feat and had first ever epidural. Not sure this time? Will take it as it comes i don't like to plan too much.

My scan is on monday, have no preference at all.

Cannot believe we all now about half way there amazing isn't it!!

Eglu · 21/02/2011 16:33

Hi All.

I had my NHS 20 week scan today. She confirmed it was a girl.

My MIL went with me as DH couldn't be there. The sonographer was absolutely brilliant and explained everything she was doing and what we were seeing. MIL was a mw many years ago when all they had was a trumpet. So she was facinated to see the heart in detail and the kidneys etc. My experience could not have been more different from Wolfcub, and just goes to show you really should complain.

My next mw appointment we start filling in the paperwork for my home birth, so it feels more real that we will eventually have a baby.

I'm so glad to be past 20 weeks and on the downhill stretch too.

nicolamumof3 · 21/02/2011 18:16

Lovely Eglu, so nice to have a positive nhs experience. So you can shop for pink now! Grin

JimmyChoo17 · 21/02/2011 18:56

Had my 20 week scan today (Am 19w2D) scan showed all was normal. :)

Sonographer was ok...I did have to prompt her to tell me what was what. They dont tell you the sex at my hospital. Cant say I saw any obvious male bits but then none of the signs for a girl so am still oblivious!

My sickness has returned (Again)

Anyone else on this July thread still suffering with morning sickness at all?

StormBird · 21/02/2011 19:26

thanks buttonmoon well not really bothered how large just so long as they are good ones. Am visiting parents who live near blackpool this weekend and mum was on about visiting mothercare world nr warrington. So anywhere in that vacinity really.

congrats to those who have had their 20wk scans. You are definately making me reconsider finding out the sex - I just keep umming and ahhhing!!!!

Jimmychoo I'm still suffering with MS but its not a constant thing thank goodness! The other day I was driving to work and had to pull over to chuck up. Luckily I was well equipt with a plastic bag and tissue, Unluckily for me a massive gang of school kids were walking past at exactly the same moment - was very embarrassing Blush

Hope you are all well xx

JimmyChoo17 · 21/02/2011 19:58

STORMBIRD - glad its not just me then.

I had such a nice week with no sick, a little tiredness but I had energy! But its got worse again today...luckily i was working from home today but am hoping that tomorrow is not as bad!

I am yet to bloom and start glowing.

I had to throw up in my car too - luckily I had a bag and mouthwash handy! Not attractive in traffic :/

Orchid12 · 22/02/2011 09:14

Yes, I'm still being sick! It's very draining, but is much less than it used to be at least Smile. Down to once or twice or a week now (sometimes more but not often). I have been managing to stay up past 8pm some nights too - woohoo!

I think we know what the sex is. Little monkey didn't play ball and had one leg tucked up behind bum initially, and the second time had both legs crossed. They did give us a rough idea based on what they could see, but I don't want to say as it's not certain and I'm trying to ignore the fact that we were given any idea at all given the uncertainty.

scarthy1975 · 22/02/2011 11:38

Had scan and all is well - phew! Decided not to find out sex but we were both looking to see if we coud see any 'bits' DH thinks he did but I doubt it very much!

I have a VBAC clinic booked in a few weeks to discuss this option but doc has said I won't need to make decision until 36 wks. Every time I see one born i think yes i'm gonna give it a go and then I think about the 4 weeks of maternity leave I missed with DS bcoz he was 2 weeks late - decisions decisions.

I've also got have another couple of scans at 28 wks and 34 wks - this is bcoz DS was small and they want to keep any eye on this one. He was only 6lb 11 and 10 days late. You wouldn't think so to see him now.

MissLolita · 22/02/2011 16:46

Hi Ladies, so much news on boys and girls! Very exciting!!I can't believe that we're at the half way stage already - where has time gone?!

I had my 20 week scan last Tuesday and it was double confirmed as being a girl. She was wriggling around like crazy but facing the wrong way and refusing to move despite me jumping up and down. In the end I sat in the waiting room reading a book for 40 minutes and she turned round. All seemed good so I suppose I wont see her until the big day now :(

I still can't really feel anything. If I think about it I can almost convince myself I can feel her moving but I'm really not sure it is actually movement. I asked the sonographer if it was a concern that I couldn't feel anything and she said that it was still early so maybe I'm being impatient. I really want to feel her!

We went to the BabyShow on Saturday and bought the buggy which was very exciting as it was the first thing we had bought. I got a Bugaboo Bee in the end as it was so lightweight compared to the others we had looked at and from what I can tell Bugaboos really hold their value secondhand if we ever wanted to sell it. Looking at the internet prices we got a pretty good deal so I'm pleased.

It still seems so early to be buying anything - is anyone else getting organised and purchasing? I'm tempted to go to the Mamas and Papas shop on Regent Street one night after work but I know that will be lethal and there will be no way I will escape without purchasing something/everything!

I don't know how everyone feels about this but I'm loving hearing about all the girls, boys (and surprises!) but I can't keep track. I've updated my stats below:

congrats on those with scans this week. So lovely getting to see your little one again. Have mine on Monday, so glad its half term as making the week go quickly!

Miss Lolita I've got a bug bee too its gorgeous i love it!! not plannign on using from birth as will use carrycot on micralite to start with. But its a lovely pushchair so light, and great to push. Got £100 off too so was very pleased! Currently deciding whether to get a nest for it, the footmuffs are soooo expensive!

DewinDoeth · 22/02/2011 18:30

Hello! I'm in the June crowd - due 8/7. I'm 35, I have one DS already who is 2.8, and a scan for tomorrow!
There's loads of people on here!

buttonmoon78 · 22/02/2011 20:35

Not all of those on the list post though. We're not really that numerous!

Went to see MW today - first of all the hospital had lost my bloods so had to have them done again. Then she was surprised my consultant appt was not until late April (28wks) so I rang this evening to be told that I should have turned up on Feb 16th. Now MW is trying to organise either an overbook appt or change consultants. All a bit Hmm

I did hear the HB though, which was lovely. It took ages to get a proper trace as baby kept wriggling away every time we heard it. Finally MW used her hand to push everything to one side whilst holding it in place the other way with the doppler.

I have felt awful today. Had to leave work early. Sickness, zero energy, low blood pressure.

I'm started to worry that if I am that rubbish at being pregnant...how will I fair at birth? I dont usually suffer so badly when ill - I am usually much better at dealing with it.

When did you ladies really feel you started bonding with bump? I worry that as Ive felt so rough Ive not been as maternal and enjoying this like I thought I would be.

Eglu · 22/02/2011 20:48

Evening everyone. Buttonmoon it sounds like your healthcare team are not very organised. I hope they get sorted out soon.

I got my Ebay bargain carrycot delivered today. Tried it out on the loola wheels and it looks fab. I'm very pleased with it.

Twit · 22/02/2011 20:49

Hi Jimmy
Sorry you feel so bad - Might you be anaemic? I spent a few days last week feeling absolutely knackered, could barely move (and if you're still feeling sick the tiredness will make it worse). I know this from previous experience, as I always seem to get a bit anaemic around 20-28 weeks. (They do a blood test around 26 weeks I think to see)
I have eaten lots of iron rich food, and started taking my pronatal with orange juice and it seems to have helped.
Don't worry too much about feeling maternal, it comes and goes with me too, all I know is that I would hate if anything went wrong, and sometimes that's enough when I feel a bit down.

nicolamumof3 · 22/02/2011 20:50

oh jimmy, im still feeling crappy most days too. Tiredness not lifting really and days where i feel good are outweighed again by bad.

I think it is a combination of age, not being in peak fitness, and having another three boys to run around after.

When i had ds1 nearly 12years ago i was only 23, working full time up to 38weeks commuting into london working long stressful hours but coped fine!! had easy quick natural birth and snapped straight back into shape...all very very different now!!

I don't worry about the birth too much, it is all soon forgotten as long as they arrive safe and well it really is all that matters. Whether its been natural, full of drugs or c section. I've needed more pain relief in all my labours as i've gone on!!

Despite it all i am so so excited about my fourth little bundle cannot wait to do it all over again.

buttonmoon78 · 22/02/2011 20:58

Woohoo! I'm so jealous Eglu. I can't wait to try my Windoo out on the wheels.

TBH, I'm a bit miffed cos my MW (who is lovely) was taking the blame on behalf of the hospital which she shouldn't have done. And they clinic said that the original letter had gone astray as it was definitely sent. I guess it's just a series of silly errors/unfortunate events. I'm sure it'll get better.

Anyhow, I know that everything's ok which is the main thing!

JimmyChoo17 · 22/02/2011 21:02

I had a blood test due to feeling so bad - am slightly anaemic but was not told I needed to take anymore supplements. Im on pregnacare and just making sure I eat plenty of iron rich foods. When I saw GP and MW they said it was probably my blood pressure dipping.

Im shocked at myself realy at how its all knocked me out so much - trying to tell myself to stop knocking myself so much but guess Im just fed up of vomiting and the exhaustion!! Im usually a bubbly lively person and never really let feeling ill get to me ever. Also people expect the same of me even when I want to tell them to bog off!!

Im looking forward to seeing my little bubba, I wouldnt change what im doing ever (this time last year I was grieving a lost little bean!).

Luckily hubby has been amazing and patient with me but even he is amazed at the effect its had on me. Hes really supportive though.

SpannerPants · 22/02/2011 21:22

Had my scan today - it was amazing! Everything very normal and I was amazed at how clear the picture was. We got a great picture of the baby with it's hand up by its mouth, but it looks like it's picking it's nose!

Oh, and we found out the sex - it's a boy! I was completely shocked as I was convinced it was a girl, but I'm really excited now Grin I'm getting a Bugaboo Bee too, can go ahead and buy it now!

Back again, finally! I have this thread open in 2 windows so I can post as I read through so apologies if I'm commenting on stuff from weeks ago that you've all forgotten about!

Re my Centreparcs dilemma - MIL has booked it for 1st - 4th July so we are going. We will be sharing a cabin with her so that if I'm not there she is in the same cabin with my dc to look after them. I'm ever so slightly offended that she has chosen to book it that weekend and not the one before when my chances of being there would be greatly increased. I think she doesn't really care if I'm there or not TBH, shes happy with the grandchildren! But she is fantastic with my dc and our only free source of babysitting so I won't say anything!!
MissLolita - I am slightly concerned by your comments though, it is Longleat CP we are going to. My last labour was niggling for at least 2 weeks before it finally happened for real, I quite often had regular, increasingly painful contractions through the night that had me wanting gas and air and thinking it was the real thing and would then tail off. With DS1 my contractions were never regular so I spent most of the day thinking it wasn't the real thing, went to hospital less than 2 hrs before he was born when I was 9cm. I'm slightly concerned that I'm not going to know if this is the real thing or not until I'm quite far gone and obviously labours tend to get shorter each time. With a 45 min drive to the hospital a long walk to get to the car could be the difference between a hospital birth and a car birth!!

Oops, got carried away reading and just remembered I'm meant to be posting!!

Wolfcub - sorry you're scan experience was so bad. It is an important diagnostic test but its also your baby that they're looking at and you have every right to have it explained to you. I'm very Angry on your behalf.

I am suffering quite badly with my SPD now, quite painful but manageable in morning but by the end of the day everything has got much more painful and stiff and I'm really struggling. Saw a GP who said all I could do was take paracetamol Hmm I requested a referral for physio which he grudgingly did. Had first appt last week and she was very good. All 3 joints in my pelvis swinging around all over the place! Although joints at the back made worse by my deep tummy muscles being non-existant very weak. My legs barley spread at all already so shall be aiming to give birth kneeling like I did the last time. She didn't have any tubigrip but is sending me some in the post which I really hope will help and I am also doing my tummy exercises when I remember. Didn't want to give me maternity belt yet as still quite early. I am a chilminder but lost all but 1 of my children when I was so ill with hyperemesis but glad in a way as now my hips are so bad I really don't think I'd be able to cope with lifting in and out of pushchairs and getting on the floor to change nappies all day and you can't cut corners like you can when its your own dc! Also theres the extra cleaning cming requires and all the bending to constantly pick up toys, I'm aching just thinking about it! I do feel like a bit of a failure to have stopped work so early on in pregnancy but I am really enjoying the peace and calm in my house, especially after school.

Jimmychoo - still suffering with sickness here. Sick every morning which is really hurting my tummy and back now, and feeling sick on and off for the rest of the day, particulaly coming up to tea time. I had started being sick in the middle of the night but think that was heartburn so swigging gaviscon before bed and that seems to have stopped it. Still can't eat chocolate Sad Had a tiny little bite size flake earlier and felt really sick for over an hour afterwards. This is definitely my worst pg by far Sad

I don't think how you are with pg has any rating on the birth though. My first birth was awful, 2nd was meh but my 3rd I actually enjoyed and felt really positive and empowered by it. Obviously there was a point in the middle where it hurt like fuck and I made (bad) jokes about having changed my mind and not wanting to do it anymore! But I'm actually looking forward to it now.

Went to babyshow on sunday and spent lots of money! Have also spent much too long today looking at slings! I have a wrap sling that another mner very kindly gave me when ds2 was ftt. I did have a ring sling I bought from a friend for a fiver but gave it away so would like another as they're so quick and easy to chuck on if popping into a shop or somewhere. And I am quite tempted by a Mei Tai as well, is 3 slings really excessive?! My wrap sling is a hugabub (SP?) and is navy with a red pocket but I have seen some really beautiful Mei Tais and I think they seem much easier for back carries but not as cosy for newborns so I would probably still use all 3 and I imagine dp would be reluctant to use a very pretty sling so he could use the wrap! Oh I have a £40 amazon voucher from the OBEM panel thing so coul use that for a ring sling and still have some left!!

Pesha · 22/02/2011 22:29

Can't believe I completely forgot to say how nice it is to hear about everyone having their scans. Mine seems like so long ago now!!

So is anyone keeping track of how many boys and girls we have?

I was wondering, should we have a seperate stats thread so its much easier to find and doesn't make the thread quite so huge?

Oh and I think FB thing is a nice idea. If it was private it would be a nice way for people to share any pictures if they wanted to without having to make them public.

Fab123 · 22/02/2011 22:33

Hello again everyone! Long time no post! Lovely to hear about all of the scans. I'm looking forward to double checking Pea's hamburger on 2nd March. I've already covered the bed in my spare room with girly clothes so it might be a mass eBay moment if the 3D scan was wrong!

Keep waking up around 4-6am with what I can only think is Pea doing continuous somersaults followed by a swift boot to what seems to be the fallopean tube...every morning! She's definitely an earlier riser than me at the moment!

I also went to the Baby SHow on Sat - had a lot of fun with an old friend who is also preggers (early 1st Trimester) and got some great deals on the Glo/Gro stand :)

Off to Brighton to stay with friends for a week on Thursday. She has a 7 month old boy who is sooo cute and chubby! Can't wait to have a cuddle. I've also booked flights to Bratislava to see an old friend for a week mid March. Got lots to look forward to :)
