I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

oh fabby news on the scans all! only 10days and counting for mine.

bump feels huge already but nice to have a firm bummp and look pg rather than just all the flubber!

feeling ok atm migraines subsiding and sickness under control. roll on half term and no school runs! Fab.

buttonmoon78 · 19/02/2011 14:48

Glad you're feeling better, Nicola.

Had another good day today - been to pick up my free changing bag from Boots and ordered some new jeans from Next. I've got a pair which are comfy but only good for tucking into boots as they are just a fraction too short. I look like an adolescent boy after a growth spurt Hmm

Also, been to one party, just about to leave for another. Knackered! Roll on tonight when I can drop into clean sheets...

isitreallythattime · 19/02/2011 18:22

How did you get your free bag at boots? I signed up to baby club, but not heard anything? Trying to locate as many freebies as poss!! Grin

nicolamumof3 · 19/02/2011 20:16

check with boots, you should get regular mailings now from them, and in the first one a voucher think you have to buy a pack of nappies to get the bag or something? didn't want mine so think it got filed!?

buttonmoon78 · 19/02/2011 21:12

It took about 4 weeks for my voucher to arrive so that might be the reason? You have to buy a pack of Pampers nappies (£3.74) but I figure that you'll buy them anyway so it's really not a waste!

I got one last time and it was the only bag DH would use. Apparently everything else was too girly. I nearly conned him into getting a brown leather lovely bag... then he saw the price and wised up!

Am all partied out now. Watching Casualty. Can you tell DH is away? Lots of TV and MN! Grin

nicolamumof3 · 19/02/2011 22:23

lol me too buttonmoon. had a lovely trashy saturday night. not stopped today. Bubs moving loads, and im eating non stop so so sure this is a boy eating mountains of chocolate and want ice cream too!

buttonmoon78 · 19/02/2011 23:33

Trashy night spoiled. Poor dd2 got sickness bug Sad

I foresee this being a v long night...

nicolamumof3 · 20/02/2011 10:31

oh dear hope it wasn't too bad?

i had a terrible night myself and now trying NOT to be sick. Had to take codeine for migraine which leaves me feeling unbearably nauseous. roll on the next 20weeks.

buttonmoon78 · 20/02/2011 11:04

Oh poor you. I just used to feel spaced out a la junkie when I took codeine. Am hoping it won't prove necessary in this pg...

Actually, it wasn't that bad at all. I stayed up really late as I was expecting to be needed at any moment and I hate that feeling of being woken when you've just gone to sleep. However, it proved to be a one off. DD says it was overtiredness (quite probable as she's been burning the candle at both ends with school stuff etc) and an excess of Haribos Blush. She won an enormous bag at the second party yesterday and proceeded to secretly trough most of them with DD1 last night.

I've told her not to be so stupid next time and to give them all to me Grin

Hope you feel better soon.

nicolamumof3 · 20/02/2011 11:09

me too, feel it is easing ever so slightly so will try and drink some water. Glad you're night was unbroken, im sleepping terribly atm.

highheelsandequations · 20/02/2011 11:52

Jimmychoo my LO seems to have quiet days too, one day I'll feel loads and the next nothing. Think that at this stage it's nothing to worry about and it's only later that you need to keep an eye on movement making sure it's regular.

Well I've been feeling definite kicks now as well as the squirms, pip has made me jump a few times and DP even managed to feel a couple yesterday. Scan on Friday, excited but terrified, worried that they'll see something wrong. We don't want to find out the sex but a little nervous we'll see something by accident or the sonographer will slip up and say he or she, is that likely or am I being paranoid?

buttonmoon78 · 20/02/2011 12:39

No you're not paranoid. You are very unlikely to see anything by accident but it is more likely the sonographer will let something slip as so many people seem to want to find out nowadays. I always say as I go in that I definitely do not want to know!

I'm sure everything will be fine.

highheelsandequations · 20/02/2011 15:24

Thanks buttonmoon, will make sure we say loudly that we want a surprise!

JimmyChoo17 · 20/02/2011 17:55

Hi ladies!

My bump is starting to be more apparent!! I have my 20 week scan tommorow can't wait!!!

I have no plans for half term other than enjoy the traffic free roads in and out of work :)

Thanks highheels I feel loads one day and not the next.

Had a bit of a funny week reallly. Think reality and nerves kicked in so been worried about everything and are we ready (should be been ttc for 2 years!!) I had 2 previous losses so I know I would rather be where I am than not but this is my first so am hoping everyone has this at some point???? Anyone?

I went to the London baby show yesterday which helped lift my mood. I came home and chose nursery furniture and textiles so feel a bit more prepared and heads heading back into right place. Feel stupid for thinking it after so many obstacles getting here!

Am pooped tonight party Friday, london yesterday and very long thigh and butt crunching dog walk today.

Stangirl · 20/02/2011 21:21

Someone was asking about previous births. I had an elective c section and it was easy and painfree. I've never experienced a contraction. I'll be doing the same again this time.

confuddledDOTcom · 21/02/2011 00:24

Evening all, it's been another hectic week, I've been alone because of my parents being away sorting out the funeral and been totally exhausted so not really been on much. Not much to report, I have a very nice bump now I was getting kicked and a lot of movement but I think we're currently breech so it's all in my bladder and cervix at the moment! I have the big 20 week scan on Wednesday, looking forward to it! Everyone is saying it's a boy so need to prove them all wrong lol

JimmyChoo17 not too early to get BH. It would be unusual for a first pregnancy to have leaky boobs this early on. I avoid OBEM because I know it would wind me up, I think they probably don't have many births like mine though! Birth can be a wonderful and amazing experience, learn all you can before hand, know what you want from the birth and make sure your supporters know it (if you can afford it or entitled to the Hardship Fund a Doula would be a big step towards that). Our hospital do tell you what you're having if they can see but we need to find out for medical reasons anyway.

Buttonmoon, the female has more to do with the sex of the baby than the man. He provides the X or the Y but the woman chooses it.

wolfcubEm83, sounds like a vile woman. No need to treat you like that. I've always chatted with the ladies who do the scans, even my big 20 week one (which is done by Feotal Medicine MWs because of all the things they have to check with me) and they've always explained what they can see, especially when I've had my eldest with me they go to effort to point everything out to her and explain it. It's just good customer service. She shouldn't have told you about the kidney, it should have been left to a doctor to do so that you understood everything properly. I couldn't even go home last week without being told by a doctor that my scan was normal!

inbetweener, never too early to get PGP. It's been my first symptom with the girls and this one. Whilst most women are getting a clue from the throwing up, I'm getting it by the amount of co-dydramol I take :(

Eglu, you can get it when you haven't had it before or not get it when you have had it before. It's different each time.

SpannerPants, the only way pain relief will work is if you take it like medication, every 4-6 hours regularly. My doctors and MWs kept saying last time "It's not pain relief it's medication for your back" because I wasn't taking them properly (I'm not now because now we know my pain is fibro so no point).

HighFibreDiet · 21/02/2011 11:20

hi there had my scan today, sonographer was lovely, did some 3D bits at the end and put lots of photos on a CD for us Smile. Have to tell mum tonight as I didn't want to tell her just before we left the country, and then wanted to wait to find out if everything was okay (which it is, as far as they can tell).

Don't know the sex even though we wanted to find out. Baby was all curled up with crossed legs and umbilical cord in the way. The sonographer said she couldn't find any clearly male parts, and she found some little lines that may have been the labia but she didn't want to commit herself. So it seems slightly more likely to be a girl than a boy but we'll probably just tell everyone we don't know. I don't suppose it will make any difference to everyone's 'trying for a girl?' questions in any case...

Ds2 has had a high temp for a few days and I was hoping his body would fight off whatever it was, but it looks like I might have to take him to the GP. I am definitely not going to the one who was 3 hours late for my appointment, but unfortunately the only one I've been recommended is still on holiday. I think I will take him to a walk-in clinic as at least we won't have to wait too long.

Oh my midwife came on Fri to do my booking appointment and happily my blood pressure was completely normal. The midwife also recommended a physio who is good for spd so I will be trying to see her sooner rather than later.

buttonmoon78 · 21/02/2011 12:33

I never heard that, Confuddled - I got to choose whether it's a boy or girl? I don't remember that bit Wink Seriously though, I thought it was a done deal - man's input is the decider? How does it work then? And, most important - I've been telling DH it's all down to him, so SHH! everyone, don't enlighten him!

HighFibreDiet · 21/02/2011 12:54

Well the man can't choose to only have X sperm or only Y sperm, he has a mixture of the two. Which type fertilises the egg is mainly to do with the pH in the vagina and how close intercourse and ovulation are. I haven't known anyone personally who made specific changes in order to get either a boy or a girl, but I have read that it is possible.

I finally told my mum... she sounded fine on the phone to me but who knows what she will say later on to her partner. She did come out with another 'I hope you have a girl' comment Angry which I wasn't very happy with but at least if we do have a girl she will feel that she somehow predicted it lol.

buttonmoon78 · 21/02/2011 13:15

I love those people who predict it after the event - 'I just knew it would be a girl/boy' - but never said a word up until they were 'proved right' after birth!

I've just spent a good while (at work Blush) checking out those methods ie influencing pH etc but they seem widely discredited by most scientists/specialists (and by a fair amount of anecdotal evidence). I can't imagine wanting either sex badly enough to do that let alone going down the route of proper fetal selection. I guess there must be people out there who do feel that strongly though as it seems to be a roaring trade in the states.

Funny though, I was in Next with DD1 (13) on Saturday looking at baby clothes. I said 'it'd be lovely to have another girl - the clothes are so lovely'. Cue my daughter's v grown up response 'mum that's like sooo shallow' accompanied by the look. That was me firmly put in my place and I don't even really mind - it was a simple throw away comment!

HighFibreDiet · 21/02/2011 13:23

lol buttonmoon I can imagine saying that to my mum when I was a similar age. Smile I have a friend who's moving house and desperate to get rid of her baby girl clothes so she hopes we have a girl too. Ds2 seems quite keen to have another boy but the others aren't really bothered.

Must go to bed now!

StormBird · 21/02/2011 13:27

Hello everyone - I've got 2 mins to post so I promise I'll catch up with the thread late - just wondered if anyone new of any large baby stores in the North West???

thanks

buttonmoon78 · 21/02/2011 13:30

Of course. I forget you're a long way ahead of us!

I think it's a girl, dds are hopeful for a girl and ds says he's NOT HAVING a brother (imagine a 3yo saying that and you understand the need for capitals!)

DH, however, is insistent it's going to be another boy to keep ds company.

We'll see - it's all sorted now anyway!

Goodnight.

buttonmoon78 · 21/02/2011 13:30

How large and how NW? If you want to give me a geographical area I can probably help.

scarthy1975 · 21/02/2011 15:49

Hi everyone - good to hear all scans are going well! I have mine tomorrow and can't wait - finally decided we are not going to find out the sex (secretly would like a girl but if it is a boy its not the end of the world - not going to have a 3rd anyway!!!

buttonmoon78 I have a 3yo ds and he has said that regardless whether its a boy or girl he will let them play with his buzz lightyear lol.

Is anyones c section scar itching? Mine has been for a couple of weeks now and quite annoying - especially when out and about Blush

I assume I will have a discussion with the doc after my scan to discuss vbac etc? I'm hoping to have a c section again - i've experienced contractions and quite happy not to again lol
