MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

Underwired feeding bras are not good for you, you can change a couple of sizes in a day and when you're bigger they dig in which can damage the milk ducts. It's probably best to hold off with them until your supply has settled and you're not changing shape all day.

I lived in them for 4 years and was so happy to go back to underwires last September (I had to for my course) so was half disappointed to get pregnant and know I'll be back out of them for awhile.

Eglu · 13/01/2011 12:13

Confuddled I have some non wired ones too and will use them until settled. Can't imagine I could wear wires when milk first comes in. But thanks for making me think about it.

snotdroolanddirtybums · 13/01/2011 12:33

Hi everyone, i have a fetal doppler and found heart beat yesterday, was around 157 bpm. was really reasuring and nice to hear! about 2cm away from it i heard another one but its probably just an echo of it or something.

my bras are all too small for me at the moment, really uncomfortable. went to try and get fitted yesterday in mothercare but they were too busy. i also love underwire bras...need something to hold them up after breastfeeding 3 children they have gone south! although i couldnt see any underwire ones in mothercare. does anybody know where i could get some?

had booking in appointment yesterday, everything has changed from 3 years ago. they dont take bloods or anything and book you into hospital for a full day where you get bloods, ultrasound and otherthings. dont know how im gonna keep 3 boys entertained in a hosp for a day! lol

hope everyone is keeping well

momaluce · 13/01/2011 22:10

hello there, can i join too!

I am 33 and this will be our 4th baby! dd13; dd7 and ds6

thanks

sues1974 · 13/01/2011 22:26

Evening ladies and welcome momaluce
is anyone else getting slight heart palpatations or beathlesness?
it not often but a couple of times a day i feel like i havnt got enough breathe and mainly when sitting down and i can feel my heart beating. i never got this last time and only slightly at the end of my pregnancy was i out of breathe from everything pushing upwards.
I know my heart is working harder now but im finding it a bit strange/worrying. can you get asthma in pregnancy when you dont normally suffer from it?
oo think i felt a flutter then, hope it wasnt just wind :o
suz xx

confuddledDOTcom · 14/01/2011 00:11

sues, it's the increased blood volumme, your body still needs to get used to it. I suffered badly from vertigo when I first got pregnant. I spent two days in bed, lights off and didn't eat or drink.

I think you can suffer from asthma in pregnancy, just because of how much work your body is doing.

HighFibreDiet · 14/01/2011 07:22

ooo hello momaluce I see there are quite a few of us on number 4 or more. We can move en masse to the 'larger families' section after the babies are born! I am trying not to feel concerned about dealing with so many kids but I do think I am going to have to go up a level in terms of my organisation - at least until ds3 is in full-time school.

Twit I went for a job interview after I'd found out I was pg with ds1 - I reckon I was 12 weeks or more. Whether stupidly or not, I told them I was pg and would they mind having to find someone to cover my maternity leave? They said the position wouldn't come up very often and it was better for me to have my foot in the door so to speak. It wasn't a permanent job but it was something like an 8 yr contract so to them, a few months off didn't matter too much. This was before the current maternity leave in the UK I have to say! I went back when ds1 was 3 months' old, which didn't really suit me at all but there wasn't much choice at that point. So basically I suppose I'm saying if you think you can deal with it, why not go for it?

lunamummy · 14/01/2011 10:18

Hi everyone, I'm a bit late to the party but my EDD is July 25th. I have one son already, who is 26 months. I'm 40 and a SAHM in Finchley, N London. Just started feeling human again after a torturous 1st trimester!!

I hope everyone is enjoying their 2nd trimester!

Eglu · 14/01/2011 12:00

Welcome momaluce and lunamummy. July seems to be the month for babies in 2011. There are so many people on this thread.

Twit good luck with the job.

I'm full of cold and so are both boys. Why is it they need to be ill at the same time as me? It makes it so much harder. Hoping to get flu vacc next week if I'm well enough.

a11yJ · 14/01/2011 14:54

Hi there, mind if i join?

it seems to be that im the youngest on this tthread some advice from you experienced ladies will be much aprecited!

momaluce · 14/01/2011 15:28

i am new to the whole internet thing,so please bear with me!

am 15/40 today but really really struggling with accepting I am pregnant following an eptopic in February 2010. Ive had 4 scans in total this time so should feel reassured. I took all three of my previous pregnancies for granted but cant get in my head that there really is a baby in there. Hubby is v exited about this pregnancy and I try not to let him know how I am feeling but am having really vivid scary dreams that are pregnancy related.

Also I havnt had any morning sickness just sore boobies and am so busy with work children and their various activities cant seem to bond with this pregnacy.

anyway feel tons better just for typing this!

thanks for reading

Fraochsmum · 14/01/2011 16:25

Welcome AllyJ, momaluce and lunamummy!

Sorry to hear you are feeling like that moma, fwiw I had a few weeks of being awake for hours at night having and not-great-pregnancy-thoughts running through my head. This followed having rather strange pg dreams too. I haven't had this for a week now and would be happy for it not to return! I am still symptomless, apart from a distended tummy and wind - must be a boy this time Wink Am feeling I should be more concerned than I am, at this stage last time my boobs were v sensitive, but just putting it down to the fact they grew a lot in a short space of time but this time they're already the same size. Maybe nonsense but makes me feel better Grin
I was supposed to get my flu jag on Wednesday, but after waiting for over 1/2 hour I was told they had ran out. Quite annoyed, because I had made my appointment while the stocks were still there. I called today - still not here - call back next Wednesday. Grrrrrrrrrrr!
Gosh that is a long time to wait Ally! We are very spoilt in our wee town that the mw's have plenty time to see us and will have 4-weekly apps till 28 weeks, then 2-weekly, then every week after 36 weeks.
I really don't know what to advise re job applications. I have an interview tomorrow, but it is a temporary census position and I don't intend to mention it because it will only last for a couple of months.

Fab123 · 14/01/2011 16:52

Sues1974 - that's the progesterone apparently widening the viens and capillaries in your nose/sinus. I've felt like I have a cold practically from conception! Also get bunged up at night and now sleep with two biiiig pillows so I don't wake up panicking 'cos I can't breathe!
You can apparently take saline sprays if that would help at all but check with the pharmacy of course.

I haven't been on this thread for a while either! Had first scan at 12wks 2 days last thurs and saw Pea bouncing about when I laughed! Actually felt a bit guilty about that as I doubt it's great being clearly asleep one min then bounced up on a sudden trampoline! Pea did a lovely stretch though and turned onto it's back, wriggled its legs a bit before re-assuming feotal position with bum to the sonographer. They seem to have dated it back to a week I wasn't having sex and only a couple of days after my last period. Is that normal? Otherwise i'm very happy :o

I have, however, felt worse now I'm meant to be mid week 13. Had morning sickness yesterday and had a headache for hours every day of the week. Feeling really emotional and boobs sore again. I thought all of this stuff stopped for the 2nd Trimester??? Confused

Fab123 · 14/01/2011 16:54

Meant to add myself to this list thingy - assuming I just copy and paste again after adding my name etc? Sorry if I sound like a numpty!

confuddledDOTcom · 14/01/2011 18:20

momaluce, I'm exactly the same. I had a miscarriage, then a 20 week live birth, then two general anaesthetics. I can't connect being pregnant to having a baby, I haven't since I lost my 20 weeker and then the GA just confirmed it to me.

momaluce · 14/01/2011 18:29

Confuddleddotcom, thanks for that, I feel almost ungrateful that I am pg if that makes sense and like it's happening to someone else. I daren't mention it to midwife when I go for bloods next week as I'm sure it will come across wrong

I am having a GTT nxt week as well as triple test as I had gest diabeates with my 6 yr old. Anyone else having the same with a subsequent pg?

confuddledDOTcom · 14/01/2011 18:54

You're naturally protecting yourself from further pain. You might feel better as you go further along or when you are handed your baby.

GTT is about the only test I don't have! I turned down the triple test. They put me through so much lol I'm glad there's something that's left alone.

GruffaloMama · 14/01/2011 20:50

Hi all - sorry to have been away - so much has happened and so many new people too.

momaluce I had gest diabetes with DS though fairly late on. Am only 12+6 so don't have to do the GTT yet but expecting it at either my 16 week check up or sometime soon after that. Hope you can soon start to feel more connected with it. Am sure the midwife would understand and might be able to suggest something to help you with it?

Confuddled so sorry for your losses - must be heartbreaking.

Fab thanks for that - I thought my snotty nose was due to the preg but DH thought I was a loon.

Had my scan today - so relieved that everything was okay. And only ONE baby despite the massive belly! Sickness is also lessening - still get the odd wave but much improved. Feel like I can start to enjoy this...

Fab123 · 14/01/2011 22:10

GruffaloMama - everyone kept asking if I was having twins too as I'm massive. Have been since about week 8!

Hope you all got some lovely pics, think most of us have had the first scan now?

Fab123 · 14/01/2011 22:12

Oooh oooh! I just found out Pea can hear from 24 weeks!!!! How exciting is that!
Sorry, i'm such a first timer! Grin

DitaVonCheese · 14/01/2011 23:25

stormbird Forgot to say that you have my complete sympathy re the impossibility of buying nice maternity/nursing bras! Angry This drove me to distraction during my last pregnancy - just because I am up the duff does not mean I don't want pretty underwear (and ideally with matching pants too) Can second the recommendation for Hot Milk - they are expensive but often on sale (try here or sign up to secretsales.com as they often have HM sales); stupid names too but pretty and seem to last fairly well. Elle MacPherson also does some nice ones (or did in 2008) but again super-expensive. I actually ended up buying some plain pale bras and knickers last time and dying them bright colours, but they still weren't the prettiest! Sometimes I get out my old underwear and just weep Wink

Fab123 when I was pg with DD, my granny (who is amazed anyone married me when I am such a potttymouth and refuse to behave in a feminine manner and wear my hair down Grin) told me with a great deal of confidence (I think she read it in the Telegraph) that my baby could hear AND UNDERSTAND everything I said, and would therefore be born cursing unless I curbed my filthy tongue Grin

Good to hear how everyone else is getting on. I am still utterly confused by pregnancy exhaustion only just setting in over the past couple of weeks. Today I went to see my (other, slightly less mad) granny and ended up falling asleep on her sofa for an hour while she played with DD Blush

Have also noticed that I've had to unbutton my trousers post-dinner the last couple of nights, so perhaps I'm finally getting a bump The first night I thought it was just the Mexican food Blush but it's happened a few more times so maybe it's baby :)

Have also more or less decided not to get the swine 'flu jab (though people keep telling me they've run out anyway). I've been told (by MW and retired GP dad) that the risks are pretty low in the second trimester, which I'm now in, and by the time I'm in the third trimester then we should (hopefully) be well and truly out of the 'flu season (though obviously I'll review if we're in the grip of an epidemic by then).

Guess I should probably get to bed!

Fab123 · 14/01/2011 23:47

DVChee - excellent Grandma! I can just see her sagely nodding as she tells you that.

I'll be bombarding my tum with 60's music, although I hear it's meant to be Vivaldi (cough cough). Maybe they'll be a cool surfer type if I listen to the Beach Boys, hey?

I had the jab a few weeks back. I actually rang up for it when 3 friends went down with flu before Xmas. The doc spent ages telling me how safe it was and at the time I thought there was more harm from my immediate surroundings. One of the friends is a resolute cougher and practically insists on coughing over your food/drink/general breathing space in sporadic barks without covering her mouth. So despite me saying she sounded unwell and reminding her politely my immune system is basically nil, she carried on which made me think I had upped my chances somewhat.

I hope that didn't make me sound selfish - I just felt so run down and crappy anyway the last thing I wanted was a cold or heaven forbid flu!

Fingers crossed for you and that bump! Did Judy Blume ever do a mantra for increasing the bump? Wink

rarewelshbit · 15/01/2011 10:14

Stormbird so happy for you - such wonderful news!(the results not the bra situation! although i have to say I've only just stopped laughing at your description!!)
I had my scan on Thursday - and guess what - there's a real live baby in there - with a full set of arms and legs and who was contentedly wriggling around trying to avoid having it's photo taken to be measured!!
I cannot tell you how relieved I was and feel like now I can finally be excited :)

they moved my due date to the 16th July so I;ve updated the stats
