MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

OP posts:

its not ridiculous rarewelshbit you do whatever you feel comfortable doing. it shocks me that they are making you wait till thursday to find out if everything is ok

cara2244 · 09/01/2011 21:01

Highheels that is good news about the heart beat!! To whoever said about the scan worries, I am the same. I have mine on Thursday and am so worried something will be wrong, although I feel fine. Maybe its just being pregnant makes you think the worst.

I am also in maternity jeans and trousers the next size up. I was the same last pg - even though I only really started to show at 16 weeks last time (felt huge but I wasn't as i have looked back at the photos!!!) I still wore mat stuff from ten weeks as I found normal clothes uncomfortable on my belly. I can feel the bump growing and I am already sitting differently :)

Does anyone else have an OH who is....hmmm how to put this diplomatically...less than thrilled about the new addition? He loves our son but really doesn't want another...and I am already worrying about how we will manage!

Want2bSupermum · 10/01/2011 04:14

Hello everyone. Best wishes to those who have scans coming up this week. I think it is normal to be somewhat worried, I certainly was.

I had a nightmare last night that one morning I didn't fit into any of my clothes because the baby had grown so much overnight. This meant I couldn't go to work... So, I decided to try another mall with a couple of maternity clothes stores. I couldn't believe it when I found one pair of cotton black work trousers in my size in old navy. They were also reduced to $20. I cannot believe my luck! Unfortunatly everything else was at least 50% polyester, nylon or rayon.

mrsfarge · 10/01/2011 11:18

hello, can i join? i am due july 9th with my 4th. was a bit of a shock, but am really looking forward to another one now. just can't wait til baby starts kicking and then will feel more reassured. :)

nicolamumof3 · 10/01/2011 11:33

Morning all, well what a weekend. After the mammoth party for ds2 on Saturday i just felt so so tired. Then migraine saturday about 10ish, went to bed and been there til this morning. Couldn't lift head at all, needed complete darkness. Bloody awful and nothing i can take for it.

suffered with them for 20 years so know the drill. But i need to look into some alternative therapies as can't go on like this.

I have my scan next monday will be 14+2 then. Some days feel positive and v.pg others just feel exhausted and v.negative. Hard when you aren't feeling 100pc too.

But will try to bring on the positive vibes. DH has been amazing all weekend totally took everything on, even cooking roast and entertaining parents whilst i laid upstairs moaning and groaning!! Grin

Wishing everyone a good monday!

StormBird · 10/01/2011 13:18

Hi Ladies,

Good Luck rarewelshbit for Thursday x

Hi to Mrsfarge and welcome.

Nicolamumof3 I suffer with Migraines so completely sympathise with you. In fact I had one on Saturday too. I couldn't get out of bed it was even a struggle to go to the loo. I'm feeling a bit migrainey today too in all honesty. I spoke to the Midwife about them and she told me to try and nip them in the bud with Paracetamol as soon as I felt one coming on otherwise they will start to last longer with all the hormones bouncing around my body. Anyway, I hope you can find something that helps, if you do please let me know.

GOOD NEWS FROM ME found out at midday that we are all clear for Downs Syndrome, everything is well. I haven't stopped crying since I found out, I'd convinced myself of bad news!

Hope you all have a good day xxx

SpannerPants · 10/01/2011 13:32

Brilliant news stormbird! I'm really happy for you!

I've got my scan tomorrow, but am currently in hospital with really bad abdominal pain. I've had a scan, and am waiting to find out if it's gallstones or bad reflux :(

StormBird · 10/01/2011 13:34

Oh spanner I hope you feel better soon. xx

louschmoo · 10/01/2011 14:15

Hello all, can I join too? Have been lurking a bit but had my 12 week scan today (all fine, baby snoozing until the sonographer jabbed my tummy, then lots of dancing around!). Am due 19th July, am 32 yrs old and it's my first. Now that I've had the scan I am officially allowing myself to get EXCITED!

Have a lovely Monday everyone :)

inbetweener · 10/01/2011 15:21

Hello all,
I havent been on for ages. I too have had the dreaded flu over the xmas period. I have NEVER felt so ill and so drained. I think a combination of flu and first trimester exhaustion just wiped me out ! I ended up being signed off work last week and all I was doinf was taking the girls to school then coming home and going back to bed till 12 !!!!!!!!!!! I have never done that !! I felt like a right lazy mare Blush

On the positive side of things, I had my 12 week scan last week and my date has been bought forwards to the 21st of JUly and my Downs risk was adjusted to 1/1058 after originally being 1/200 !! SO relieved Grin.
I do feel pg now too. I can def feel a little lump sticking out and lying on my stomach isnt too comfy !

Still havent announced though. Well, I told my manager today as I need tommorrow off to go to my booking in appointment. he was ok. Wasnt thrilled but didnt shout and holler lol.
I just need to pluck up the courage to tell everyone else now. For some reason I utterly terrifed and just feel like everyone will think I am crazy for having baby number 3. Silly I know but I just cant shake it off.

snotdroolanddirtybums · 10/01/2011 15:42

hi everyone, havent been on in ages as had flu and then the whole christmas rush! im now 12+2 so glad the first trimester is nearly over. have booking in appointment on wed and still no sign of scan. ive been feeling really good the past few days which is great as all the kids are back to school. having some problems getting to sleep though and then when i do eventually get to sleep im having crazy dreams! anybody else having these problems?

inbetweener, im the same. havent told anybody yet as im afraid of the reactions, people thinking im crazy and the how are you going to cope questions. this is number 4 for me, so i worry about it myself sometimes when the boys are playing up but hopfully its just hormones!

Want2bSupermum · 10/01/2011 15:58

I told my employer last week. I didn't tell my manager but my mentor first who then told me to tell HR. My mentor then told those who need to know. Was shocked that HR have already told me that I can take more than 3 months off if I want, I just have to be back working full time during busy season. They also said I could work part time during off peak times if I want. I am totally in LOVE with my employer and am so motivated to work harder for them now. I never thought I would feel this way about an employer.

wolfcubEm83 · 10/01/2011 16:43

Hi ladies, havent been on here for ages what with xmas and everything, have quickly scanned the pages so not quite up to date.

Had my 16 week MW appointment today (im 15+3) and it was a real dissapointment, so rushed, bet i was only in there 5 minutes! She listened to the heartbeat (i didnt tell her that i have a doppler and have listened in every day for a fortnight) and then said she'll see me again in March. The waiting room was full so i didnt say anything, im lucky that i work with 2 midwives so i go to them with my queries anyway.

My sickness has finally gone but im so, so tired and have these horrible stretchy pains down the sides of where my bump should be which sometimes stop me in my tracks. Told the midwives at work and they just laughed (in a nice way) and said "what do you expect, you're growing a person!" and so i shut up moaning! Its my 1st pregnancy so every pain is a disaster to me Blush

No weight gain, no sign of a bump and no big boobs yet, havent even contemplated maternity clothes as nothings even tight on me. Im jealous of those with bumps, the impatience is killing me!!

honeybabymoon · 10/01/2011 18:41

I havent been on for ages but such great news to hear about all the lovely scans. My 12 week scan is tomorrow and Im a bit nervous because:

  • I have no idea what they are testing for
  • whether ill get the blood test results they took a month ago
  • i think it will be just as rushed as wolfcubEm83 felt as my booking appointment was 15mins when they said reserve 3 hours.
  • I still cant have a tour of the hospital because of swine flu and am not sure i want to have my baby there as they are being so useless with antenatal.

Does anyone know if and when i get the nuchal fold scan? do i get any clue about reduced/increased risks of downs if its not a specialised type of scan (and its just a bog standard 12 week scan)?

How can I easily compare maternity wards in London? Ive seen the one at Drfosters but it only compares on so few things. I want to know ratio of midwives to patients and if anyone will actually help me after Ive had the baby (apparently they very rarely do in english hospitals). My friend has strongly advised me to get a private midwife but these are upwards of £2k!

The hospital I am currently at is Queen Charlottes and Chelsea. It does not include any of the additional scans that some hospitals do. I have a choice of St Marys or UCL or any in North London really.

Sorry for the explosion of questions and worry, I think I am way too emotional right now and keep getting myself into a worry!

Good luck to all with scans coming up.

DitaVonCheese · 10/01/2011 18:51

Evening all Grin

Yay yay yay Grin Grin stormbird - so delighted for you.

spanner eep - hope you feel better soon.

highheels that doppler looks great. I love mine so much - I'm sure that one of the reasons I've been so much more relaxed this time round is because I've been able to find a heartbeat from so early on.

Had my first official scan this morning and was measuring 13 weeks exactly so they've brought me forward a couple of days with an EDD of 18th July so we're now going to tell people 28th July

Scan was all over pretty fast as they don't do the NT measurement and the sonographer said that everything is too small to really check anything else (with DD this was a really long scan and they checked loads of stuff Confused). Baby was pretty lazy, curled up and didn't want to move, though s/he did get hiccups at one point which was pretty cute. Most of my symptoms have now disappeared apart from agonising nipple pain so was nice to know there was actually something there!

Like you louschmoo I'm letting myself get excited now :) My mood has really picked up over the last week and I'm just so bloody happy to finally be pregnant again at last Grin It is so so great not to have to constantly plan around when I'm going to OV, and odd/nice to drive home today along the same road I drove home down six months ago after DSIL's hen night in tears because it was full of pg ladies :)

honeybabymoon · 10/01/2011 19:01

I forgot to say I have found a nice solution to my growing but not really showing bump. Its only making my trousers a little tight but its enough to feel uncomfortable when you are feeling sick.
My solution is my M&S trousers. I wore them before I was pregnant as they are ever so comfortable especially when you are carrying a bit of extra weight. They are elasticated but not in a drawstring way. The waistband is a very wide and deep band that goes all the way round. Very comfortable and the thin (unfortunately poly:() material drapes very flatteringly over the legs. Perfect for work and hides your bump that little bit longer. Also goes with a black jacket if you need to look smart.
I used them a lot when I was heavier but even when I lost the weight I got a smaller pair as they are as comfortable as tracksuit bottoms and leggings (which I cant stand!) but I promise look like normal black work trousers.
Ive just scanned the website but I cant find them. They are in every M&S store ive been in at around £20-25 and you can wear them when you are not pregnant too.
The only downside is that they are quite thin if it gets cold again. In the snow I put thermals on underneath or leggings would look just as good. As they are wide legged it doesnt show.

DitaVonCheese · 10/01/2011 19:03

honeybaby Birth Choice UK is quite useful. Also if you google each of the hospitals you're looking at then they should have the results of a survey type thingy ... baby brain is defeating me here ... just a sec ... Right, the Care Quality Commission do surveys of maternity units (or they have of my local hospital anyway, sure they must do others as well) so maybe try googling something like care quality commission maternity + the name of the hospital and see if anything comes up (read the notes on how to understand the results though or it's baffling. There's also some basic info on the NHS site though a lot of it seems to have been taken from Dr Foster.

They should have given you some information about the first scan at your booking appt (15 min?!). If they offer the NT scan (and again they should have told you that) then they'll do a measurement of the back of your baby's neck. If not then I think they'll just confirm how many babies are in there and do some measurements to give you an accurate due date.

If they don't do the NT scan then they may do some blood tests at about 16 weeks which will give you an indication of your risk of Down's, though it's not as accurate as the scan (and neither is as accurate as the scan + blood tests). You can choose to have an NT scan privately if you don't get it on the NHS at your hospital.

Ask your MW about your blood test results next time you see her.

Wouldn't worry too much about the tour yet - I didn't have mine until my due date last time (though I was planning a home birth - and didn't move into the area where the hospital was until 33 weeks).

Twit · 10/01/2011 19:53

stormbird that's brilliant news!
I had my flu jab today, no problems so far at least! I'm hoping I get a scan date before my booking in on the 19th just so I know, if that makes sense.
I still feel really bad about not being excited, I think I'm resigned to it at the moment. When I have my scan, I think I'll start getting excited, as it will be a person rather than an ick, tired tight clothes surprise IYSWIM.

StormBird · 10/01/2011 20:53

Stormbird brilliant news! I was worried for you.
Wow loads going on for everyone at the moment! It's nice that most of us have moved on from ms and tiredness. I have had a sicky tired day today but nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

nicolamumof3 you have to be so careful or you get ill - I remember the ms coming back on Xmas eve as I had been shopping all day the day before!

MrIckle · 10/01/2011 21:19

Hey all,

Haven't contributed for a few days but have been following stormbird's progress and am so pleased to hear your result!

Welcome to the newbies and looking forward to some more scan news later this week!

Is anyone else starting to wonder when their bump is going to kick in? 16 weeks tomorrow, everything is tight but not really warranting a move over to the maternity gear yet! I WANT MY BUMP!!!

Now watching 'one born every minute' and getting more and more concerned, awful lot of groaning going on!

DitaVonCheese · 10/01/2011 21:25

I want a bump too, I got terrible bump envy in Mothercare first time round Grin

sues1974 · 10/01/2011 21:40

Hi ladies,
Some really good news on here tonight, Spannerpants i hope youre feeling better soon and that your scan goes well tomorrow.
Welcome new ladies to the ever growing July forum, its brilliant how many of us there are, really didnt think there were that many powercuts in October :o

Well i can add to the good news, had my scan today and baby is fine, im measuring 13+2 weeks so 1 day behind what i estimated but will leave my stats as they are as will be having a c-section 1-2 weeks beforehand anyway. They also took the nuchal measurement and it was 1.6mm which is really good for over 13 weeks but still have to get the results from the blood test before i get the proper risk but so far so good.
Also told my boss at work today and he was fine about it, told him id probably leave on the 10th June and that id be having a year off.
So finally breathing a sigh of relief now and enjoying being pregnant.
suz xx

Want2bSupermum · 10/01/2011 21:43

honeybabymoon - I had the nuchal fold measured at 12 weeks and the blood tests were done about a week after my appointment at week 8. As I am Jewish I had more blood tests done than others and saw a genetic counselor. However, I am in the US so everything is different.

buttonmoon78 · 10/01/2011 21:58

I'm so pleased Stormbird

Good news and bad news here - the dodgy antibiotics are not 'unsafe' there's just not enough evidence to say that they are. All circumstantial evidence says it's fine.

On the downside, had shooting pains in my groin today. Not happy. I'm only just past 10 wks ffs. Sad
