Still worried about bean. Not because of the fall, more because of the food poisoning thing. 3 days til scan.

Got 1st xmas lunch today...menu fully scrutinised, excuses re not drinking ready...all I need to do now is stay awake long enough and not throw up in the restaurant.

Are there quite a few people who haven't spilt the beans yet then? After I had my scan I announced it on facebook (I'm only "friends" with poeple on there who I'm actually friends with irl).

Hope you've all got snow days and are off work :) We've had sooo much snow in Sheffield, just measured it with a ruler and there's a foot! I'm going to build a pregnant snowlady with my friend later, and then drink cocoa Just think, next summer we'll be playing with our babies in their first snowfall!

I had my first appointment with the consultant this morning & I heard the heartbeat - first time so very happy. Almost didn't make it because the snow is horrendous. Have decided i'm not going into work :)

TTL I am now totally convinced that I am having a boy! Your link and all of the "just for fun" quizzes have all said that it's a boy and actually I was reading this website just before we conceived and remember thinking that if today was the day that worked we would be having a boy because of where I was in my cycle!

I'm in Sheffield too NurseSunshine, I tried to walk in (I live 3.5 miles from work and often walk in during nice weather) but the snow was so deep that I had to turn back. It went up to my knees on our driveway! DH is also off as he is a teacher and his school is closed for the second day running. Was going to have a chilled out day reading a novel but work have just rung me to ask if they can email something urgent to my hotmail account for me to have a look at. Hopefully it won't take long and then I can go back to my book!

Oh 79 I've got no idea based on that Shettles method ... according to scan dates I conceived on a Monday but thought I had ovulated on Tues/Weds ... think (casting back) we had sex Sun/Mon/Tues/Weds

My baby doesn't have a genital tubercle. What does that mean?!

We've not told everyone yet, but then my scan isn't for another 2 weeks. I wanted to tell some people but DP is getting all precious about 'tradition' and 'jinxes'. I told my best friend, but then DP caught me out in a tiny little slip of the tongue, which gave away the fact that I'd told her and he was really peed off, so I daren't tell anyone else without his permission.

But as I heard the heartbeat at my check on on Monday, I've convinced him we can start telling the GPs - I need some good news to pacify my mother when I tell her she can't come to ours for xmas!

And I'm going to write the letter to the friend who just miscarried in the next few days, to give her a head start on everyone else.

I have had to tell a couple of work-related people today. Not people at my actual workplace but people who have asked me to work on things with them in June/July - someone actually asked me to go to a 3-day conference slap bang on my due dates!

Feel nervous about this as my ms has subsided, I'm only 10+2, and maybe I shouldn't have told them ... but after seeing the heartbeat last week it's so hard not to feel it's the real deal.

Good news so can now finally add myself to the stats! Had my student midwife with me who is lovely and had never seen a scan before so quite impressed! DH couldn't come as he had a client thing he had to do but wasn't too worried as he came to the last 2 . Nuchal measured 1.8mm and nasal bone was seen. I've been told that if I am high risk I will hear next week but if not then wait for the post! Anomaly booked for 17th Jan and that will fly by with christmas in the middle! Still not really telling people, only because it's our 3rd and I quite like keeping it to myself at the moment :) Probably going to spill the beans on ds's b'day as family are down for that so can tell them all together, that's just over a week away, I want to wait longer but dh rightly pointed out there's no way I can hide it for much longer .

petitech I had a similar thing with my boss in my first pregnancy, said I couldn't tell anyone until a certain time. Of course I fully ignored her, told my friends (telling them to look surprised when announced!) and didn't tell the people I wasn't that fussed about knowing anyway! Sounds like an arse though

Off to pack now. DH and I are generously giving the children to my inlaws so we can go to a spa hotel for the weekend . . .bliss :)

Fantastic knackered - jealous of your spa weekend

To be honest it doesn't even need to be a spa hotel, just have a bed with no children to wake me up and someone else to cook for me! Although having a spa there does have it's advantages

Leroy my friends have a rottweiler and german shepherd cross breed, he is bloody massive . When their first was born they got a sturdy dog pen for the house and left the baby in it while the dog roamed free . They have since had another one and have had no problems at all with any of their children or other people's. We use it to train our children not to be afraid of giant dogs .

LOL at leaving the baby in the dog pen !! I remember some friends of my mum's who had a massive german shep and some snotty HV telling them it was dangerous to have the dog and the baby in the house together and my mum's friend, very innocently, aswering "only if the dog chokes on the baby"

Leroy, you know your own dog. Obviously you would never leave dog and baby alone together but unless the dog is actively vicious surely you'd be ok? How is dog with your other DCs? It wouldn't really be a problem until baby starts crawling/pulling tails anyway.

knackered - My DH didn't come to the scan for DC3 either. Glad it went well. He is much more into DC4 for some reason...

clarkiee - just go back for one day (or maybe 2!) after the Easter hols. It'll be easier for school to get someone in for mat cover at the start of a term rather than a little bit into one.
