Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
79monica · 29/11/2010 17:56

Just got back from the scan. We made it on time (just) and then waited in the waiting room for 40 mins because they were running behind.

The baby is healthy and I measured exactly 12 weeks, which is spot on what I thought I was.

Will now be spending most of the evening on the phone telling everyone the good news. It's such a relief to be able to tell everyone our secret after so many weeks! Grin

Congrats to Moomin too! Smile

Hola, added my Stats but they are so unlikely (twins normally born at 37 weeks) that I've put a couple of ???? next to EDD hope thats okay xx

Lovely to hear everyones super scan news (it's such a relief that you can't begin to describe) xx

takethatlady · 29/11/2010 18:24

So glad mummynumber2 :)

Should have said this ages ago jasmine but it just occurred to me that a while ago I read somewhere (sorry, can't find link) that it's only in the movies and the soaps that people fall over in their first trimester and lose the baby, and that this is actually very very rare because your uterus is still low down and protected by your pelvis. It basically said that your baby is much more resilient than you think and not to worry if you trip or fall or anything.

Still, I know you won't feel better until the scan :)

Mummynumber2 · 29/11/2010 18:27

Congratulations Monica I'm glad you both got there, it's always the way isn't it, you rush there then have to wait for ages! So glad everythings ok though.

Moomin Your scan pic's really clear, it's amazing and so sweet that you can see their little faces so early!

Thanks again peeps! I'm not sure how I'd get through all this without you lovely laidies! In all honesty I don't think they have any idea where the fluid is coming from! But I seem to be a bit of a medical mystory altogetner when in comes to pregnancy/ fertility!

sasamaxx · 29/11/2010 18:51

I've been snowed in all weekend!!!!
I will catch up on the thread when I'm a bit less exhausted.

Was up in perthshire for a family do - woke up on Sunday to 1 foot of snow, thunder & lightening, no visibility and constant blizzards Shock
Every road that could have taken us home was closed so we had to stay at hotel an extra night and hope for the best. Luckily today the sun was out and roads had been cleared enough to pass slowly and carefully so we got home this aft and I've now discovered that some of the roads are closed again now.
What a nightmare - my sister left early yesterday, before the roads closed and was stuck - in the one position - for 7 HOURS!!!

When we were driving home on the motorway today, we passed loads of abandoned cars and the central reservation was covered in snowmen from all the poor people who were stuck there all night long Sad

Sooooo glad to be home!

Have my scan tomorrow.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 29/11/2010 18:59

Wow Sassamaz - glad you weren't stuck overnight!

79Monica - yey for your scan too!

Mummyno2 - glad everything is okay for you.

Finally got around to adding a scan pic to my profile, I'll have another one on Thursday!

bananarama05 · 29/11/2010 19:18

TTL I'm with you on the falling over advice, I threw myself down three bloody big external stairs at work at 6 weeks and aside from buggering up my own knee, bean seemed all fine at 12 weeks scan so Jasmine fingers crossed we're in the same boat.

I'm sorry but I need a whinge (funeral day today, I need a little wallow, sorry...) is anyone else getting heartburn yet? Bloody annoying. Whats the official line on gaviscon etc does anyone know, DP has a hiatus hernia so we have a massive bottle in the cupboard and I'm currently contemplating if it would constitute dinner if combined with some paracetamol for my headache [self pity smiley]

Boy do I not fancy going back to work tomorrow, I am keeping everything crossed this snow picks up some Wink

knackered76 · 29/11/2010 19:28

79Monica Grin Grin Fab news on the scan!

Sasamaxx - what a nightmare! We don't have snow here, just bloody cold, but if it arrives at some point I think I'll stay put after your story :)

Bananarama hope today hasn't been too hard for you and you're allowed to feel as sorry for yourself as you want Grin. I had awful heartburn in the first few weeks but didn't take anything, just didn't know if I could I couldn't be bothered to find out Blush DH gets it alot and drinks milk, helps to neutralise the acid apparently so worth a go until you find out (yes I know, totally unhelpful answer about whether to tuck into dp's bottle :)). Take the day off, yes my work ethic since having children has rather taken a downhill slide, luckily I don't work at the moment so no-one else is suffering because of it!

misshoohaa · 29/11/2010 19:34

Congrats moomin, monica and mn2 great to see that this thread is full of good news now and we seem to be charging ahead to the second trimester with most of clinging on!
Can you believe we're all (some already) a third of the way through?? June seems far away but my musing are that by May any of us could go, especially clarkiee so come the new year things will start flying.
monica telling everyone is the best! I've been telling all of my work mates today and apart from my boss everyone has been super excited. Expected my boss to be annoyed as the timing is pretty bad but oh well!

Clarkiee · 29/11/2010 19:44

You're right misshoohaa telling people is fab!! I work in a big primary school with 50 + staff (if you include non-teaching staff too) so still keep coming across people who don't know. Told two more people today Grin.

I have no idea when to finish work- originally thought I go back for a few weeks after Easter (then I get paid for my Easter hols too) but now I'm not thinking I'll make it that far. When do you have to decide?

NurseSunshine · 29/11/2010 19:53

Moomin your baby is so... babylike! You can see their ickle facey-wace and everything!! Can't wait to see a pic like that of mine.

Kara, your photo is dead cute as well! So amazing how much clearer and real-human-ish they become in just a couple of weeks!

Welcome madre :)

I'm missing loads of people out, I'm sorry, I've been up since 5 and am just totally knackered. Will be more attentive tomorrow. Hope everyone has a lovely evening xxx

cameli · 29/11/2010 19:54

MadreInglese I am expecting DC2 and DS will be 2 weeks from his 15th birthday when I'm due - I'm also not too far from Harrogate, work in Leeds city centre & live in Wakefield :) I only told DS i was pregnant on Friday!

Congrats to everyone with great scan news. I am feeling a little more positive now, got my first appointment with the consultant on Wednesday.

We have snow and I was on holiday from work today as i managed to get tickets to see Peter Kay last night - good job i wasn't heavily pregnant i would have given birth.

x

79monica · 29/11/2010 20:20

Cameli I have just got tickets to see Peter Kay in January in Sheffield, I heard that the show is really good. Smile

Did anyone in London hear someone screaming for about 5 mins solidly about an hour ago?! That would have been my sister. She picked up the phone and I just said "You're going to be an auntie" and she couldn't speak for screaming for quite a while. My Dad's reaction (not a very emotional person) was "very good, well done, now what's the snow like at your house?" That is as happy a reaction as I have ever heard from my Dad. Smile

cameli · 29/11/2010 20:25

79monica I also went to Sheffield and he was very good - was worth going out in the snow. Enjoy :)

knackered76 · 29/11/2010 20:31

79Monica - love your dad's reaction Grin.

My brother has aspergers and on the day ds was born my dad happened to know I was in labour as mum had come to pick up dd. When he got back from work, my brother still lives with them, my brother accosted him at the front door saying 'have you heard the news?', my dad understandably thought he was going to announce the arrival so said 'no', to which my brother said 'Alan Pardew's been sacked (manager of West Ham at the time)' no mention at all of the fact he had a new nephew Grin

Off for a bath and bed. Have spent the day doing 101 things and even managed to get an hour study done so now am completely exhausted . . . night night all :)

petitech · 29/11/2010 21:03

Hello everyone.
Congrats on scans, saw your lovely pic moomin but for some reason couldn't see yours nurse?
RANT ALERT
Feeling happy about healthy bean but also a bit gutted about work. Feels like I'm already being cast aside and my boss is being really weird about me telling people. He doesn't want me to tell anyone until we have confirmed the "strategy" (his words) of my departure, cover and return. Then I'm allowed to tell the Team Leader who works for me but I then have to leave it a week before I can tell everyone else. (so he can digest the info?!) He also said to me, you do realise you can still have a MC after your 12 week scan, you don't have to tell people until 20 weeks.
When we discussed the "strategy" I said I would only have 6 mnths off (even though I'm not obliged to tell him this) and said I would like to come back after 6 months for four days a week, to which I pretty much just got a flat no.
I think I'll be expected to travel, e.g. to US and it seems that unless you give 150% you're not welcome in the company.
Think I have no choice but to look elsewhere whilst I'm off.
How's everyone elses work situations panning out?

BarbieLovesKen · 29/11/2010 21:06

Banana Gaviscon is 100% safe for use in pregnancy - go on and give yourself some relief!!!. I think I drank approx a (large) bottle per week in the the last few when pregnant with DS. With dd I didn know I could and suffered along miserably drinking milk to try cool it!!.

BTW, I sought advice from a Consultant over this and he told me its perfectly fine and also, it says for use in pregnancy on the back of the bottle.

Jasmine Ive had the most horrible night sweats right up until about 10 weeks. Id go to bed freezing and then wake up soooo sweaty and hot and disgusting that Id have to get up and strip off completely. Asked Doc and he says this is perfectly normal. Its stopped now, thankfully!!

BarbieLovesKen · 29/11/2010 21:17

Monica and Moomin huge congratulations on your lovely scans today, was actually thinking about you both earlier wondering how it went. Moomin I can really see your baby! such a clear picture and hes absolutely gorgeous, of course Wink

MN2 So glad things are ok and all is well. Dont know why on earth I would tell you this, particulary when you didnt wee yourself but I was very clueless 19 year old when pregnant with dd, had no clue about such things and actually went to get up one night to pee, couldnt make it, lost bladder control, pee'd in the bed with DH actually in it Blush hes never let me live it down. Even now when I call him childish or such he replies "well, at least I dont wet the bed" Grin

When I was in labour with ds, a girl was getting checked behind a curtain in the same room as me, it was 2am and she'd came in as her waters had broken.. nope. Turns out she'd wet herself. I felt so sorry for her.

Cep hope your feeling ok and everything goes well in the morning. Am sure your right, might be a "period"

Petitech Im so so angry for you over your boss and his ridiculous carry on Angry how dare he say such a thing about MC.

&%$^(!!!! My work situation is a nightmare. As you know was bullied severly* for being pregnant last year (including constant attempts to get me fired/ demoted by reasons of pregnancy) so needless to say that the announcement of this pregnancy has been awful in work. Terrible reaction and awful things being said that keep getting back to me. Am having to move to another department over, well basically being pregnant! (or rather the treatment I receive for being pregnant in current job)

OP posts:
petitech · 29/11/2010 21:35

It's disgusting isn't it! I feel really used! Typically his wife is staying at home until both their kids are at school (they're minted!!!) so doesn't have this kind of worry. (sorry, no offence to people who don't work, just cross with my boss' attitude)

LisasCat · 30/11/2010 07:04

Work things

Clarkiee with regards when you decide what date your maternity leave starts, I don't know for sure, but would guess the 15 week pre-EDD cut off for telling them you're pregnant would also be the time at which you have to decide when you want to start maternity leave. My contract says that it can obviously start earlier due to medical reasons or premmie birth, but otherwise I need to try to give them a reasonable amount of time to cover me.

Given that I want to be as involved as possible in the recruitment of my cover and have a 3 week hand over, I'll probably be as stubborn as possible and stick it out to the very end (EDD 23/06, last work day 20/06!). Plus, I want to make my maternity leave cover as much of my DD's first school year as possible, which starts next September. So I'll want to start it as late in June as I can, without actually delivering a baby on my office floor (which may not have been cleaned in several months).

KaraStarbuckThrace · 30/11/2010 07:28

Petitech - so your boss is a hypocrit as well as an arsehole Angry

Barbie - have you decided what to do about your scan date?

Monica - not sure if it is an Asperger's thing, think it was young-man-clueless-about-kids thing Grin

knackered76 · 30/11/2010 09:31

Morning all,

Quick good luck sasamaxx for your scan today!

Have good days everyone.

8rubberduckies · 30/11/2010 10:35

Morning! Good luck today Sasamaxx, and great news about the scans yesterday!

I called the hospital yesterday to chase up my scan, and they told me it was on 16th November! I never received the letter Angry. They have booked me another one now for next Tuesday, so I am very excited!

Only a short post as am in work and am very behind at the moment Blush, but hope to catch up properly with you all soon Smile.
