That floats on high o'er vales and hills
When all at once I saw a crowd
Of cackling, quaffing, ne-er-do-wells

Pull up a seat, grap a glass of vino and a piece of sushi, it's Delitime again.

That's awful Clucky, bunch of bastards.

OP posts:
PollyPoo · 11/11/2010 08:24

Oh Clucky that sucks. So sorry. Sad

AlpinePony · 11/11/2010 09:01

clucky I am so sorry and that is SO shit. I am very Angry at firms like yours and mine (who has 30 billion in cash reserves!) who are letting people go. I get that small businesses who are failing have no choice - but you and I work for companies that have bigger economies than some countries. :(

You're allowed to cry I think - but soon the tears will turn to fury and you must start plotting what you can steal...

rocketleaf · 11/11/2010 09:34

clucky I'm so sorry and angry to hear that. Can they do that? Is diffrent for me as i knew i was only temporary but think you have extra protection when you are diffed. I'd try and speak to someone in yhe legal know before you sign anything. Lots of people here have been offering to get me some contacts for freelance so I am hoping I can at least get a few bits in the new year to tide me over. If not guess we will have tighten our belts. At least you, me and scorps can keep each other company in bludgers corner.

Medee · 11/11/2010 09:55

oh Clucky, that really sucks.

Legally, you can still make a pregnant woman redundant, there are just certain conditions you have to make more favourable e.g. if there is a pooling going on, such as 4 jobs down to 2, the pregnant woman must have one of those, but if all 4 are going, there is no preferential treatment. Having been in a pool of 1 going to zero, I know this too well!

AlpinePony · 11/11/2010 10:07

As medee says, pregnant women can be made redundant - it happened to a mutual friend of curly and I. She did however negotiate a very decent package which covered her until the end of her maternity leave (incl. pension contributions and the like) - she also went "immediately" on leave. In this woman's case, the office was relocating to Germany and she chose not to go.

Scorpette · 11/11/2010 10:27

Oh, poor old Clucker Sad Here, have this pair of Kappa tracky bottoms and poundland tub of extra-strength hair gel and join me in Bludger's Corner. Jezza's about to give out some paternity test results! (If we don't laugh, we'll cry, huh?)

Still no Moo noos? Good stuff, good stuff Grin

Well, I am angry. I was in so much pain yesterday and esp. last night that I visited Dr Google. I put in all my symptoms and got what I think is the answer: 'GORD' - Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease. It's v common - 30% of people have some level of it. Every single symptom fits. Every website says it can be triggered or exacerbated by pregnancy (I've always had a bit of a prob with acid reflux). And many websites say that Docs often dismiss the symptoms as a weird variant of morning sickness, which is what my Doc said. Every time I described the agony, she brought things back to vomiting, saying it must hurt from vomiting. When I pointed out I only actually throw up every 3-4 days and surely that couldn't account for 24-7 severe pain and horrible acid-feelings, she looked confused, ignored that info and went on about nausea, etc. I even said to her that she wasn't listening to me properly (I was bent double clutching my upper stomach). Annoyingly, all the websites say that if it goes on without a break or more than a few weeks, it can cause permanent damage Angry Websites also say it's most common in women with allergies and asthma. What's worse, is that as it isn't morning sickness-related, it could go on for my whole pregnancy and my Docs would've sat back and let it continue!

And what is the miracle cure for this painful condition? Fucking Gaviscon or Zantac (both perfectly safe in pg)! I have been virtually housebound by pain for nearly 2 months, all because a fucking idiot Doctor hears 'first pregnancy, first trimester, stomach problems' and decides it's all morning sickness-related and closes her ears to what's actually being said. I know it's this GORD thing, as I've had the mild version all my life without knowing the name, as have my parents and brother!

Sorry to rant. Am going to buy some Gaviscon later. If I feel better, I will be using the energy to go on a killing rampage... Angry

(I know I seem fixated but if you were in this much pain all the time, you would be too!)

CluckyKate · 11/11/2010 11:05

Thanks for the sympathies girls - you are all superstars!!!

You're half right Meds but that level of protection kicks-in 11 weeks before EWC which, for me, would be next Wedsnesday. Poo.

Have gone into work & spoken to others affected so feeling much better and am chanting my mantra: Calm, focused and in control Hmm

What's so galling is that we're having a brilliant year finance-wise and have set-aside 125% of the bonus - it seems that in an economic downturn people consume more crisps & fizzy drinks!!!

Scorps - you is one scary lady when you're angry Wink ....great news that you now have a diagnosis and fingers crossed the Gaviscon works. Hefty fanny-kicks to your doctor....I presume you'll be going in to educate her & get the medicine on prescription!!!

Scorpette · 11/11/2010 11:20

I'm fairly scary when I'm NOT angry Wink If the Gaviscon works, I will be complaining and getting the shiz free, fo sho!

I hope all it takes is Gaviscon for a reason more serious than the current pain - because it's been so bad, I've told TYF that I can't get pg again, because I couldn't cope with this and a tot to look after (or just go through it again, full stop), even though we both want more than 1 child. If it is 'just' terrible acid reflux which is sorted out by a simple thing, then that changes everything and in the future, can ttc merrily away (yeah, right - 'merrily' Hmm) knowing I won't have to suffer again like this :)

On a wider scale, many of my allergies have been diagnosed due to extreme stomach reactions - what if they aren't allergies at all but all part of this problem?! Shock

Muser · 11/11/2010 11:21

Hope the Gaviscon does the trick Scorps. Then you can go and shout at folk.

I have decided moo must be either laying or snuggling a baby. She has been quiet for too long.

OP posts:
Scorpette · 11/11/2010 11:22

Shout louder, you mean Wink

laurielou · 11/11/2010 12:35

Hello all!

clucky, rocket so sorry about your jobs. That really sucks. When one of my jobs fell through my Nana said "everything happens for a reason". I resisted the urge to lamp her one shout at her much. But she was right. For I stropped my way into my second choice job & bumped right into Mr Loz Grin. I've been made redundant twice - it sucks, its awful. But I promise something always turns up.

Bras - I've just started wearing my old bras that I had when I was heavier than I am now. I actually screamed when I saw my stomach in the mirror last night - where did it come from all of a sudden? In fairness I think its more crisp / bread / Twirl related but yikes!

Have scan this afternoon. All being well we will then tell people. Like my parents. Tonight. Why do I always feel like a naughty school girl around them? I'm convinced dad will send me to my room when I tell him Grin.

Anyone heard from moo?

PollyPoo · 11/11/2010 12:38

Lozzer good luck with the scan, so exciting! And the telling of the folks - they will be ecstatic I'm sure. Smile

I hope Moo is happily snuffling her boys head in a state of contented bliss by now. Where is Okie? She is usually good for Moo-related updates. Maybe Okes is laying too?!

Scorps I hope the gaviscon does the trick pet.

reginaMonologue · 11/11/2010 12:46

Hello all - just a quick update in that I have lost my plug and have had 2 days of what I thought were Braxton hicks, hmm now not so sure! Got an appt with dr later so he can have a rummage to see what is going on!

Hope moo moo is doing ok!

PollyPoo · 11/11/2010 12:48

Ooh reggie how exciting! Good luck at the doc's. Grin

laurielou · 11/11/2010 12:56

reggie exciting news! Good luck, x

CurlyCasper · 11/11/2010 13:04

hmmmmm, Internet seems to have fixed itself despite provider saying there was nothing they could do until next week. Hmm

Unfortunately because of stuff I have to do I can't even catch up properly, and it would appear I have a LOT to catch up on.

scorps just wanted to say I hope you have found the right diagnosis/solution. Although it made me a wee bit sad, because Squeaks has reflux and takes Gaviscon for it, and now I know the extreme pain she must have been in. No wonder she was panicking on the breast and not eating enough in the first few days. A readmission to hospital, and they didn't even spot it! It was me who diagnosed through the internet then went to doc Angry. Please feel better soon.

Mud wrestles and nipple tweaks all round. I will come back this evening (I hope - fingers crossed I can still connect) and catch up properly.

PerfectDromedary · 11/11/2010 13:06

Reggie You great big queue jumper! Good luck!

CurlyCasper · 11/11/2010 13:10

missed that - good luck reggie!

BarbiesBeaver · 11/11/2010 13:16

Good luck for your scan Lozza.

PerfectDromedary · 11/11/2010 13:23

LostBoys Woo, scan! Sorry I missed that and best of luck.

Muser · 11/11/2010 13:30

Hooray for reggie and good luck with the scan laurie.

I have just outdone myself with the puking. Got tasty crab tortellini for lunch. In middle of last bite realised that Bob clearly does not like crab. Immediately spit out last piece. Walk down street (was take out from market) trying not to puke. Fail. Puke into napkin and cardboard box that had contained pasta. Manage to do it in way that did not draw attention of others. Am disgusting.

Sorry, hope nobody was eating their lunch. [evil grin]

OP posts:
PollyPoo · 11/11/2010 13:33

Aw Muse you poor thing. That is grim. You are not disgusting though. Puking is disgusting, but you are not. So there.

PerfectDromedary · 11/11/2010 13:39

I dunno, that is quite disgusting :)

Am impressed with your tidy puking skills, though, Muse. Are you still taking the pills?

Muser · 11/11/2010 13:42

I haven't needed the pills. I get pukey in the morning still, but usually ok for the rest of the day. Obviously something about the crab that was not quite right. I shall avoid further adventures with our crustacean pals.

And it is very disgusting, although would have been worse if it had been a shop doorway or something. Thank god for keeping a toothbrush at work.
