Just a new thread as I noticed we are near the limit (again)!

Hello Ladies, How are you all doing today?

SBF Yay! I'm sooo pleased that you passed the GTT! Time to crack out another black forest gateau in celebration. I so hope I pass in December, a Christmas with thinking about every little thing eaten is a bit sad, I'm really sad they are making you do this Prof without giving you the change to do the test. Isn't there any way you could complain?

With regards to forbidden foods over the festive period, I think I will shock the PIL with a small glass of wine or bit of christmas beer, but thats their problem - I dear any of them to utter a word (practices deathly stare). Though the funny thing is MIL got rather pissy about the fact I didn't want a soft fried egg a month or so ago, though apparently I must not drink or take any pain killers Hmm. I do eat prawns every now and again anyway - I too heard this was fine. Pate.. hmmm, I think if I started I couldn't stop and I'm not really missing cheese all that much, so will probably not bother.

I just read the fantastic link about perinial massage, thanks NeedtoSleep. The warm flannel idea during labour sounds like a good one.

Has anyone considered, or got any views of Lotus birth www.lotusfertility.com/Lotus_Birth_Q/Lotus_Birth_QA.html or even delayed cord severence?

knittakid · 19/11/2010 13:19

Just quickly to say that I am using extra virgin olive oil... Hmm not sure if that is recomended anywhere, but in the instructions that I've got (in the Sears childbirth book) it says pure vegetable oils, and olives are a veg (well, fruit, but green... like almonds) aren't they?... Please put me right if i am wrong!
I also found a pdf online with sketches, very useful. Is there anyway i can upload something like that? or perhaps I can re-google it. Let me know if anybody'd like it.

Will read articles and about that lotus thing in a mo.

jackinthebump · 19/11/2010 14:00

Afternoon all!

Well I have just got back from hospital for 28 week scan, all looking good! Girls currently have estimated weights of 2.8lbs and 2.12lbs! I have to go back on Tuesday for bloods and GTT test!!! Laying on my back is now a no no as I nearly fainted during the scan, so been told not to do that now!

On the downside, I picked up cake for DH on my way home as I felt guilty for asking him to sleep in spare room last night (has a cold was snoring lots) to find he is still in bed, now has temperature and looks like it might be real flu! - doesn't want his cake!!!

Hope everyone is having a good day and happy friday!!!

Tarlia · 19/11/2010 14:19

Fab news Jack! Poor DH, hope he is feeling better soon, poor thing.

I also meant to say earlier, so lovely to hear about MrsTeapot - thoughy I was unaware anything had happened- she is still on our stats list.. I wonder if it would be awful to reconfirm our stats again/remove/de-bump anyone MIA to the bottom?
I also think about those that left us in such sad circumstances, I so hope they are all ok, and maybe have wonderful news, so if anyone spots anything, keep us updated, pretty please.

BearBearBear

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/11/2010 14:31

I keep wondering about removing anyone MIA, but almost every time I do an old poster pops up and says "hey, sorry I've been MIA for so long, here's what's new with me" and I feel guilty for thinking of removing them. But then we get the MrsTeapot situation and I'm sure there are others in the same boat.

I could farly easily purge the list down to only include people who've posted on the thread in the last two months, or last three months -- what do people think?

angels1 · 19/11/2010 14:41

I think maybe prof we should give a weeks warning or something that, so that if there are any people who are lurking alot but not posting regularly it gives them a chance to wave to us and say they are still here. It does get confusing to see the stats and not know what's going on with so many of the people (or even if they are still pg Confused).

I do like tarlias teddy faces Grin

OP posts:
EauRouge · 19/11/2010 14:41

Tarlia, I've heard about that lotus birth thing but decided it wasn't for me. I was very insistent though that the cord should not be cut until it had finished pulsing and that I wanted to try for a natural third stage (ended up having the jab after an hour of pushing with no result). I think DH cut the cord just before they gave me the jab so about an hour after DD was born.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/11/2010 14:46

In principle pre-birth I have wanted the cord not to be cut until it had finished pulsing, and was toying with the idea of a natural third stage, but in practice (well, second time, as I had a c-section first time) after I'd got DD out I didn't really care what they did and couldn't be arsed with pushing the placenta out as well as the baby so got the injection and have no idea when they cut the cord.

Also I have large-largeish babies which carries a greater PPH risk and I felt vaguely happier with the jab for third stage.

angels1 · 19/11/2010 14:48

ohhh, my ebay baby carrier last minute buy has just arrived :) We ended up getting a wilkinet after spotting it in its auction last minute up on ebay and put in a quick cheeky bid. It seems to be a cross between a sling and baby carrier, and so we figured we'll give it a go and if it doesn't work for us we didn't spend much on it and can just get another one (and might by then have more of an idea what works with our baby). The feedabck on reviews on mn is quite good for it, and it seems the main drawback is the nac to get it on, so I think I will have to practice on a teddy or something Wink . Anyone tried a wilkinet?

OP posts:
ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/11/2010 15:00

Haven't tried one but they are supposed to be good (and are another halfway house between a wrap and a carrier). Probably a good option for you (although it's quite difficult to practise before birth because the bump gets in the way -- your DH could practise easily, though, although for some reason men seem to find teddywearing a bit silly...)

PDR · 19/11/2010 15:23

I don't think it's a bad idea to update the stats! So if you are here lurking let us know your news :) If someone pops up we can always add them back on...

I am "nesting" loads today - though my hips are killing me now so better stop. Have even washed some baby stuff... so cute... so small, I had forgotten how small newborn clothes are!

WanderingSheep · 19/11/2010 15:58

Grr! I just typed out a long message then my phone promptly died and lost it! Angry

How do we do the teddy faces? I can't find instructions on the page! Envy

Maybe we should just start a new stats list? I have seen some posters around MN. They seem ok, pregnancies doing well but they just can't keep up with the thread and decide not to post. When we all start giving birth there'll be a new stats list anyway with who gave birth when, what sex, maybe name and weight etc.

jack, it's ashame your DH is ill. I'd get that cake eaten myself, if I were you! You wouldn't want it to go stale! Grin Great news about the little girls!

SbF, glad you passed the GTT! One less thing to worry about Smile.

I'm now feeling proper limbs poking through my bump now! I was watching my tummy before and something was sticking out at my belly button Shock. Kind of eww but amazing at the same time! I'd forgotten how strange it is.

DD got given her part in her preschool play yesterday! She's a Shepherd (or should that be Shepherdess?) and has a line to say . As they're only 3 they're not too bothered of she remembers it though so she's not quite under pressure to give an Oscar winning performance! Grin
We were given a note yesterday to let us know what they should wear. DD's said "Shepherd costume - this can be bought or made by yourself!" Gee, thanks that's so kind of them Hmm. As my sewing skills aren't quite up to scratch I think I'll buy one!

angels1 · 19/11/2010 16:06

wandering I think I was once a sheperd(ess) and if you want some inspiration my mum just cut up a plain and old duvet cover into a rectangle that was sort of mini angels1 size and got that stuff (forget what it's called) where you iron it onto the material and it sticks it together so you don't have to sew it and left a gap for my head and 2 arms and then I made a belt from old rope and wore sandels (think I also had the obligatory toy sheep under one arm and possibly a tea towel stuck on my head with more rope).

OP posts:
WanderingSheep · 19/11/2010 16:12

Ah, yes! I remember the old tea towel tied around the head [nostalgic] Grin I was never a Shepherd but I remember our school nativity with the towels on the head, lol! At our school it was so basic. We had sheep and cows in our nativities and the sheep had to wear White tights and a white jumper and the cows the same but in brown and one of the teachers made masks that were used every year.

I may as well buy one. They have them in Tesco and she may well be a Shepherd next year so we can use it again! [lazy CBA emoticon]

WanderingSheep · 19/11/2010 16:14

Come to think of it - our costumes were provided by the school! They just used to reuse them every year.

angels1 · 19/11/2010 16:21

I'm still in shock that Tesco sell nativity costumes tbh - things have changed much since I was a child

OP posts:
angels1 · 19/11/2010 16:33

urgh, are there any other teachers on here that are struggling to get their SoW's all done and dusted before mat leave? I'm trying to do mine (OK, so I know my SoW's should be all perfect and up to date already, but I admit to just using the old teachers who was there before me (and left like 4 yrs ago Blush) for the purposes of paperwork and just slowly developing my own gradually and making adjustments as I feel like it (it sounds slapdash but I assure you the lessons are very rigorous and organised). Maybe I'm lucky as work in the private sector so paperwork isn't quite so obsessive as state and I'm sort of left to my own devices. I have to make sure these are super good though as school is being inspected at some time this year (at least I miss all the stress of that Grin ).

Anyway, I'm struggling to get everything written down in a really good way due to general baby brain. Just wondered if anyone else was having to do this at this point or if you've all got your work done and dusted ready for hand over for another teacher Envy

Hi girls

Just a quickie to say hello. Hope you are all well. Symathies for the leg cramps, I feel your pain only ever get it when pg, but boy does I drive me mad!

Not sure if I mentioned mw appt on tues. All was well, hb was 140, but she said "a strong 140" which I thought was odd as either 140 is good or it isn't - does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Nearly gave body pump the old heave-ho today but soldiered on and am so pleased with myself I think I will have chocolate tonight!

Anyone else watching 'm a Celeb - is it me or is Gillian a total waste of spCe!?

ZeroMinusZero · 19/11/2010 16:39

I think its a pombear rather than a teddy so I wonder if you do it with [pombear]

ledkr · 19/11/2010 16:41

speaking of school productions dd has the big disco tonight,i went to town to buy her a trendy outit as she normally ends up in akind of fancy dress job, looking like an overdone cinderella haha.
I have been having quite unconfortable braxton hicks. For the first time tody i actually thought they may be something else and felt a bit concerned that i was in poundland.(btw huggies pure wipes in there at the mo)Dh has been laughiong cos i bought lots of chocolate as "gifts" but am already halfway through a toblerone as we speak haha.
Prof yes leave it a week then maybe reduce the list,we seem to have the biggest stats list on mn.

WE WILL BE REMOVING ANYONE FROM THE STATS LIST ON HERE A WEEK TODAY,IF YOU WISH TO REMAIN ON THE LIST PLEASE LET US KNOW

that should stand out

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 19/11/2010 16:45

OK, new and updated stats list, featuring only people who have posted on this thread in the last three months. If anyone has been deleted in error, please shout as I have the old list and can copy entries over.

Is it a pombear? Why do wer have pombears? I thought it was a pudsy??

40weeks 140 is totally fine. There is an old wives tale that under 140 means boy and over means girl. God knows what 140 on the button means!! Actually there is currently a thread about this in 'pregnancy' I think.

Nice work prof

wandering I always remember the costumes being provided - the most we had to do was bring in the right colour tshirt and tights or a dish towel. Good luck to your little shepherdess!

Ledkr Mmmm, toblerone! How was the carrot cake? Did you do cream cheese icing? Sorry, I might have missed the answer. I've wanted some all week, I think I might have to hunt some down!

Tarlia · 19/11/2010 16:58

Sorry, I also meant to say [ bear ] = Bear
