Hi all,

Hurray, have elcs for 24th Feb 2011 Grin all being well, that means DH can spend some time with DS and newborn before he goes away. Consultant just asked why had emcs last time and that if i wanted another thats fine!!

Regarding bras have just bought them from asda to be honest, the sports ones are really supportive and comfortable and only £4!! Figure i will get proper nursing bras a few weeks before baby born??

sam26oscar · 09/11/2010 21:13

Oh by the way still want to be on March group though Grin Grin

1Catherine1 · 09/11/2010 21:45

Of course Sam... you can't go abandoning us now!! We just won't let you :) Grats on getting you elcs like you wanted!

chickiewoo · 09/11/2010 21:52

Hi all - just checking in to let you know I had my scan today (am 20+1) and am delighted to report that all is well - everything present, correct and as it should be. Needless to say after all the worry we have been through we are thrilled and relieved. We decided not to find out the sex, and to be honest it wasn't obvious to me on the screen anyway as baby was so active! Been reading all your comments on prams and pushchairs - we have our Britax 3 wheel travel system from 5 years ago which we will use again and will then progress to a MacLaren stroller type thing when baby is 6 months old or more like we did with DS. Would love a Bugaboo or something similar, but just don't have the funds. Great to hear all your news by the way x

Muser · 09/11/2010 21:59

Oooh, you queue jumper sam! Feb folk obviously v welcome though, or I'd have to leave!

EvianBaby · 09/11/2010 22:35

Chickiewoo (and everyone I have missed but read about!) - Congratulations on fab scan news! It's such a relief isn't it?

sam26 - i'm pleased that the consultant agreed with your choice and you have your date sorted. Well done!

Re boobs shrinking: bad news for those of you that don't want them too, mine did after DS but I was happy about it! I was previously a 34F and am now (well before this pregnancy a 32DD/E.
Good news re getting undressed to be measured (so sorry was it me asking this - in Bravissimo they have a look at your boobs in a bra (your own) then go and get some of their own and leave you to get changed yourself. They then come in and check and take it from there, changing sizes if you need it. You don't have to get changed in front of anyone. However, I suspect I would be much less bothered since having DS than I was before!

My Dsis's 3rd baby is due in just over 3 weeks, it's very exciting. I have 5 close friends also due before me which is lovely. I am concerned slightly that my favourite names will have been 'used' by the time our baby arrives! Wink

Are we sharing name ideas or keeping them to ourselves? Smile

Twice in a day, life in our house must be calm at the moment!

Larty74 · 10/11/2010 08:07

Chickiewoo and Sam great to hear your good news! Smile

sittinghippo · 10/11/2010 09:52

Ooh ooh Evian share share!!! I need inspiration, have absolutely no firm ideas yet and as I dont know what flavour it is I'm going to need boy and girl names.
Would love to hear what you guys are thinking so far, if anything. Grin

Congrats on scan results chickie

JoJoB77 · 10/11/2010 10:04

Morning ladies!

Hope you are all well.

Talking of names I am really tempted to find out the sex tomorrow at our scan. I was all for keeping it a surprise but the more I think about it the more I want to know! We are at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital so hopefully they give us the option.

We have a name in mind for a boy, James Thomas but no ideas for a girl - just can't think of any that I particularly like?

emma31177 · 10/11/2010 10:06

hi everyone glad we having so much good news on here i had my 20 week scan today spent an hour looking at my little man cant wait till march couldnt get any photos though he wouldnt turn over so we got to go back in two weeks to check the front of him naughty all ready lol one thing i dont no if to worry or not he measurment were of the scale the man said not worry but still does this mean he goin to be a big baby

goin to put my dd back to bed she dont do early mornings and being a litle madam hope every one has a great day xx

KPidgeon · 10/11/2010 10:24

Lozario I've got my scan on the 19th too- South London too- you're not with St. George's too are you?

After all this scan news I'm desperate to have ours done.

Also waiting with baited breath to get the head circumfrence measurements- Husband has a massive head (ouch) and midwife has already told me she thinks it will be a big baby (great)!

Clucky31 · 10/11/2010 11:25

Hi all,

Congratulations to everyone who's had scans recently - so nice to hear good news.

Re the bra thing - I can highly recommend a shop called Leia (the one I go to is at Bluewater). Even pre-pregnancy they were the only place I've ever found who managed to measure me correctly. The bras I have from them now are not strictly maternity bras, just very supportive non-underwired ones and they have been amazing (I'm not tiny either - currently a 'cuddly' 36HH). I'll be going back there after 36 weeks to be measured for my feeding bras.

xx

Lozario · 10/11/2010 13:22

KPidgeon no, we're at King's (what joy!) - but St George's is Tooting isn't it which a few of my friends are going to for their arrivals. Not far from us at all!

re: names... so far, my fav boys names are George, Miles and James - my DS is called William so we like to keep it traditional with the boys! And for a girl I LOVE Megan but DH not so keen so am trying to convince him. We both like Maggie though.

sam26oscar · 10/11/2010 14:32

Hi all,
Now here's a question, Evianbaby touched on, do you think its ok to have the same name for your baby as your best friends????
My BF is having a boy in Dec and they have named it Oliver, my DH doesn't really know her and has said he wants the name |Oliver if ours is a boy!! I am of the opinion that no, they chose it first, My DS is called Oscar (in case you hadn't noticed with my screen name!!) and would be disappointed if BF chose his name!! However, think i may have changed his mind and have Leo for a boy and Honor for a girl.!!Although of course this is bound to change as this is my perogative {spell}??!!

1Catherine1 · 10/11/2010 15:48

I think it really depends how long you and your BF have been friends and how much you expect your DS (assuming you have one) and your BF son will spend together. If they're going to go to the same school and grow up together then I think choosing the same name is a bad idea - personally.

I have to say though... if DS1 is Oscar, is it really a good idea to have DS2 Oliver? Fast forward 15 years post comes addressed to

Mr. O. [Sam26oscar].

But that's just me I think. I like initials to be unique as can be in families.

I'm glad you all are making progress on the names. Me and OH have gone backwards. Since finding out we're having a girl my OH has picked several names and told me he hates all the one's I've picked. Atm I'm settling since no name is really making me feel like it's the right one. He on the other hand has started telling his family the name "we" picked even though I'm not totally taken by it. I think I'm just being difficult. I've been through the girls names book more than twice now and still can't find one I want. Sad

KPidgeon · 10/11/2010 15:48

Hi sam26oscar LOVE the name Oscar by the way- reminds me of the darling buds of may baby. I think you're best friend may be a bit miffed, yes- I mean they will both inhabit their names differently and be their own "olivers" if you go for it but I know my mate would be annoyed if I used the same name as her.

Also- Oliver is the number 1 name at the moment so there's likely to be a lot of them in classes and friendship groups for the rest of his life. My friend's sister's little boy is called Oliver/Olly and he's always called Oliver Lloyd in class because there are so many Olivers in his class..

Also again (!) I love the name Leo. I'd go for that.

Larty74 · 10/11/2010 17:18

We've only got two contenders at the moment, Blake and Chester. Funny as they are names I never really thought about as ones for my own child, but both DH and I like them equally and just stumbled upon them somehow. Had a very long list of girls names when we found out it was a boy so they came easy and only Blake at the time. We still flip through the books from time to time, but those two keep sticking in our heads. you only need one!

You never know 1Catherine1, the same might happen to you if the books aren't doing it, it might just pop up somewhere. Theres lots of time.

PipPipPip · 10/11/2010 17:36

Hello ladies,

congrats on everyone's scans, especially chickiewoo - I got a bit teary reading that chickie's scan had gone well, considering all the terrible bullshit challenges the poor lady faced earlier in her pregnancy. Chickie, good stuff :)

So, we had our 20-week scan yesterday and came away happy. The baby has everything in the correct place, just one head and gave us a 'thumbs up' sign for our troubles.

I think I experienced by first moment of 'maternal pride' when the sonographer said the baby was 'in the perfect place' or something. Like, it is the daftest non-compliment but I suddenly felt a rush of 'my baby is brilliant'. Never thought I'd be a gushy Mum, but I can feel it creeping up on me.

Had my second pregnancy yoga class. Can't recommend it highly enough - very gentle, great way to meet other women, to have some time out and mentally prepare.

Hope you all have a good evening, Pip

PipPipPip · 10/11/2010 17:37

Woops, the phrase 'terrible bullshit' was supposed to be crossed out for comedic effect. Sorry for my mumsnet lameness.

Purplefan · 10/11/2010 19:03

Hi all,

Good to hear lots of positive news from scans over the last week.

Sam26Oscar pleased to hear that you have decided on a date for an Elcs and that it fits in with your DH.

I had scan number 6 today and all is well, although she thinks there may be a very small hole in baby's heart, she is referring us to Oxford again for a more specialist scan just to be on the safe side! She did say it may just be the position that baby was lying in that made it difficult to see. I am absolutely fine about this cos this is small fry compared to the original outlook!! Smile

Have another apt at hospital 2moro for a consultant clinic to discuss birthing options.

Handed letter in to work with my dates for maternity leave and have stated that I intend to return at the end of July for 2 days to benefit from the summer holiday pay! Job-share partner is not impressed and is now thinking of throwing her toys from the pram and not covering my leave.... tough really I need to think of myself and family Grin

Hope you are all keeping well. x

haloflo · 10/11/2010 21:27

I am leaking a little out of one boob! Just looks like water at the moment, although I had a slightly yellow stain on my bra today. Does this mean I will leak until the birth or is it just a phase? It's not much at the moment. Might I need breast pads soon?

Gah, this was NOT expected!!

EvianBaby · 10/11/2010 22:31

Hi Sam26 I have always wondered if your DS was called Oscar because of your 'name' - my DS is Oscar too!!! Fab name isn't it?!?!Anyway, following on from what you were saying I have some experience of the same name thing... I met a girl whilst I was pregnant, she was pregnant too, we never discussed names (in fact we only met a handful of times). Anyway, she called her baby Oscar, and he was born shortly before DS. I was a bit upset at the time, for no other reason than I thought this meant I couldn't use it. Nothing at all to do with thinking I 'owned' the name or anything like that. DH, Dsis, mum all made me see sense and told me that of course I could, I might not be in touch with this family in the long term etc. Anyway... fast forward 2 years and she is now one of my closest 'mum' friends and the same name thing has never really been an issue. It might have happened if I had called him something more popular anyway. I don't think I would like it to happen that way around again (me having the second one, if you see what I mean), but that's only because people would think that I couldn't think of any names myself probably! I wouldn't be bothered if I was your friend and I had 'Oliver' first and you also chose the name. In my opinion, choose the name you really want, you might always regret it otherwise! However, saying that, I love the other names you have on your shortlist! Smile

Sorry for the ramble, I hope I have made you feel a bit better about it. You choose what you want for your own child. It is highly unlikely your child will ever be the only one whatever he/she is called unless you choose something v unusual. Grin

This thread is getting so interesting now, all this name, boob, bra, pushchair talk... much better than a few weeks ago when it was morning sickness and vomiting!!!

KPidgeon · 10/11/2010 22:44

Purplefan all the best with the specialist appointment in Oxford. And well done for sticking to your guns in work.

Muser · 10/11/2010 22:50

Good luck with the next scan Purplefan.

jammiedodger2 · 11/11/2010 08:06

Hi Ladies
Spent last night putting together the pushchair to check we have all the bits! Will take it down this morning to go back in the loft!
DH very pleased with it, me too, BUT it took me half and hour and some internet surfing to work out how to fold it down as the instructions were pretty poor (which is what all the reviews said!)
We have a Lucy and Tom already. We decided both the names on meeting them but they were on a list. I have only one name in mind for a girl (poppy) and three for a boy (Ben, Adam, Alistair) But that doesn't mean the wriggler will end up with any of those names, I suspect the discussion will continue!
Purplefan hoping your scan goes well. Are you planing to deliver at oxford? I've just re-booked and will now be going to the JR to have this one.
Wrap up war!
jx
p.s. just a silly thing and none of my business but what is a PESH? I keep seeing it on thread titles!
