PESH is the antenatal thread that came out of the BESH thread in Conception. BESH = barren evil selfish hag, thread is for those of us in our 30s who are trying to get pregnant and failing repeatedly. Termed BESH because the Daily Mail would tell us it was All Our Own Fault for being too evil and selfish and waiting until our eggs were shrivelling up before getting down to having babies.

PESH = Pregnant Evil Selfish Hag, for those who finally did manage to get pregnant.

Purplefan, I absolutely think you are doing the right thing about going back to work before the summer holidays, but I hope you don't mind me saying something.

I really don't know your situation other than you have a job share at a school, but I mentioned it to my boyfriend who is a teaching assistant at a secondary school. He also said you def should go back before summer, but that also he thought the school should bare in mind the fact that your job share partner would (if you are paid pro-rata) be in effect not getting paid enough, baring in mind she will have worked several months as full time staff but then reverting back to part time staff over the summer. He seemed to think it was the responsibility of the school to make sure that your job share got paid the right amount, maybe a slight increased hourly rate to cover the money she wouldn't be getting over the summer (though not to the detriment of your pay).

To be honest, I'm mainly replying about this as my boyfriend likes to problem solve and he has been talking to lots of member of staff about your predicament. You have been the talk of the staffroom! (by the way everyone said they would do what you were doing). It might clear the air between you and your jobshare if she realises that you are making a decision that you have to make but that you still are considering her too.

Please please just ignore this if you think its interfering. I find it all totally confusing and and only mentioned it to my Boyfriend in passing conversation, he just ran with it!

bluebeach · 11/11/2010 09:23

To everyone else, I'm glad you are all having good scans! its such good news.
I had the swine flu jab yesterday and then totally panicked about not feeling the baby move last night so was up at 3am googling miscarriage after swine flu......no it did not put my mind at rest (bloody google). I woke up my boyfriend and cried all over him about having made a mistake....thankfully little baby chose that moment to give me some big thumps. Arghh, I think I will be worrying the rest of my life now!

Ooo, any hippy types out there should try and get 'Spiritual midwifery' from the library. It is about a kind of commune of midwifes in America in the 70's where women could go and give birth. There are some lovely birth stories, and it makes you see contractions in a whole new light. If anything it gives you a bit of a laugh (I especially like the suggestion of smooching during 'rushes', and having your nipples stimulated by your partner...!!). Not sure what the midwifes at Gloucester royal would think to that!!

bluebeach · 11/11/2010 09:24

meant to say 'googled miscarriage after swine flu JAB'

doh

Larty74 · 11/11/2010 16:24

jammiedodger and purplefan hope to see you at the JR sometime in March! Smile

me23 · 11/11/2010 17:35

Am pleased to hear scans are going well.
Been to gp today I have a uti so am on antibiotics for a week and am anaemic again so need to get back on the iron tablets. However I (with help from my lovely dp) have managed to persuade the gp to finally refer me to an endocrinologist so I will wait for appt in the post.

sam26oscar · 11/11/2010 17:37

Evianbaby thank you for your perspective!!
I like the name Oliver but it wouldn't have been on my sort list. Oscar is a slighlty more uncommon name, and think Leo is a tad more uncommon too iyswim?!! God i hope i don't offend anyone thinking the name Oliver is common!!

Have finally got a pair of dungarees, i have been waiting for days for them from ebay!!! Can't wait to wear them so i don't have annoying waistband problems!!!

Decided to do a bit of Christmas shopping today with my sister as i don't fancy facing crowds of people at nearly 30 weeks, so trying to get vast majority done sooner rather than later!! Only today Baby C ( nickname from DS1) decided to make its presence very much felt!! Been kicked black and blue!! Must be a boy not liking the shopping!!!!!

Hope you all had good days xx

sittinghippo · 11/11/2010 18:57

Arrgh my boobs are like rocks!

Sorry, just felt the need to share, and you MNers are the best option for that!! Grin

Southsearocks · 11/11/2010 19:14

....and a sandbag in my tummy. I can't bend so well now. Bump is aching today too.

niamh29 · 11/11/2010 20:54

Has anyone else been having pains in their back or groin, I've been getting sharp pains in my groin and sometimes in my back, it's not very bad but annoying, I feel like I'm carrying at 38 weeks not 21!

Maitri · 11/11/2010 21:21

bluebeach I had my flu jab yesterday too and also spent much of yesterday afternoon panicking that I couldn't have it "undone" and that I had damaged the baby etc. Baby WAS very quiet last night but seems to have made up for it today. Nurse told me that in the States pregnant women get the jab routinely but over here the NHS just can't afford it. That put my mind at rest a bit. I must admit, I do feel better now that I'm not worrying about "split diaphrams" (a potentially fatal condition in pregnant women suffering even from just seasonal flu according to my consultant).

On another note, I really fancy the Spiritual Midwife book - I'll look out for it. "Mindful Motherhood" is one that I can recommend which got me through previous pregnancies and STILL allows me to cope with an increasingly difficult teenager!

Medee · 11/11/2010 22:50

I had a very sharp pain when I sneezed while driving home tonight - not nice.

jammiedodger2 · 12/11/2010 08:16

Morning.
Have finally hit a bit of wall (apparently DH has been waiting for this) absolutely knackered and very tearful most of yesterday. Lots of emotional non pregnancy related stuff going on at the mo and just havn't slowed down at all. May sign myself off sick for a couple of days Blush which I never do but clinging to my last 2 weeks of A/L to try and stretch out my ML. Work has been pretty full on for the last 10 or so months and no signs of let up any time soon. (we are v. short staffed).
Larty so glad to hear someone else has chosen the JR. I was originally booked at stoke mandeville but was just hearing nightmare stories from all my newly delivered mums. I don't know much about it but it's only an extra 5 mins in the car for us and their stats looked ok! Also smh still hadn't allocated be an obs cons or cardiologist and I know they do joint clinics at the JR.
muser Thanks for explaining the jargon, pure nosiness on my part! the daily mail is called the 'daily malice' in our house Grin

JoJoB77 · 12/11/2010 09:22

Morning ladies!

Had our scan yesterday and all is well! Baby is developing as he/she should and was very well behaved although they had to tip the bed so I was head down to try and get a good view of the tip of the placenta as baby's head was in the way! All was find though. No idea of what we're having though, no choice given at the scan.

If the strep b test is clear at 36 weeks then I will be delivering at our local maternity unit which is lovely - or if not, it will be at Shrewsbury. Hopefully it's the former.

Hope you all have a lovely day x

1Catherine1 · 12/11/2010 09:51

Good morning all,

Is nice to hear lots more scans going well. :)

niamh I had pain like that last week. Turned out I pulled a muscle. Took two weeks for it to heal and now I'm back to my old back pain only.

Baby movement has got quite regular. My OH was feeling a little left out until the other day when I told him our little girl was fidgeting again. He put his hand on my belly and she calmed down but he kept it there until she moved again and was really chuffed with feeling her movement for himself. He now keeps telling me that he can't wait to meet her. :)

Anyway, having a stressful morning. Have a student teacher teaching my class which is more hassle than its worth. I think my patience is a lot less in pregnancy Sad

Larty74 · 12/11/2010 12:51

just gave in to a very serious McDonald's craving. Blush

me23 · 12/11/2010 13:11

I'm still not feeling much movement at all anyone else? it's my 2nd baby, I sometimes feel a flutter but it is not everyday and when it happens it isn't a flurry of activity only 1 or 2 flutters.
Dp really wants to feel movement but he will have to wait until I can actually feel regular movement.
I am very anxious about my scan on monday especially because I haven't been well throughout this pregnancy.

1Catherine1 · 12/11/2010 13:22

me I've only been feeling movements for a week and sometimes it goes away for a while. Funny thing was when I had my 20 week scan I'd only felt her once but at the scan itself I was a bit more sensitive to the movements, since the scan though she's felt a lot more active. I'm sure she was being more still before to make me worry!

I hope you are feeling better soon. And good luck with the scan on Monday!!

pettyprudence · 12/11/2010 16:57

just been for my scan today - yipee! Baby has all the right bits in all the right places. We didn't find out the flavour but do know its a thumb sucker that doesn't like being prodded.

I found out today that I have an anterior placenta which finally explained why I couldn't feel anything (although think I might have felt the first "thump" last night!) and why my belly looks like jelly rather than a nice bump (well that and the cakes!)

diyqueen · 12/11/2010 18:03

Hello everyone, can I come and join this thread? Coming to it a bit late I'm afraid, am 21 weeks now, due towards the end of March. It's really reassuring to read everyone else's experiences - pettyprudence, I haven't been feeling much movement either and had been worried about it but have an anterior placenta too so reading your last post has reassured me a bit. The scan also reassured me - we could see the little one wriggling about enthusiastically but I still couldn't feel a thing. I can't wait until I can properly feel it move rather than feel the occasional odd sensation at night and wonder if it's the baby.

KPidgeon · 12/11/2010 20:45

Welcome diyqueen! Are you due end of March then? (I'm due 27th). Is it your first?

K

niamh29 · 12/11/2010 21:51

Heyya guys, I'm in the same boat, 21 weeks since Tuesday and only feeling the odd flutter or flurry of movement, I feel something every day but it might be just once or twice a day, and I'm on No 3 so I was expecting to feel more sooner. It's very reassuring to know there are others feeling the same!

TooImmature2BMum · 13/11/2010 14:39

Hello all!

Yes, I feel a bit uneasy about movements too - am 24+2 and baby only makes small flutters every now and then. I thought by now she'd be kicking hard! Not that I want it to hurt...but it would be reassuring.

I was really happy last week to discover the Health in Pregnancy grant will still be in operation for those who are 25 weeks pregnant before 1 Jan. That's me! And you guys too. I'm planning to call the midwife on Thursday when I'm 25 weeks and ask her to send me the form straight away. I read on the DirectGov website that you get the form at the next midwife appt after 25 weeks, but mine isn't until 14 Dec and I want to send the form in sharpish to make sure they process it before New Year.

Purplefan · 13/11/2010 15:34

Hi all,

Bluebeach thanks for your input re my maternity leave. I will pass the info onto my job-share partner to discuss with HR. Grin at being the talk of the staff room. Job-share partner is a little more relaxed now that she knows my intentions though! Smile

Jammiedodger and Larty I am still planning on delivering at the GWH in Swindon at the Mo, although will depend on how the pregnancy pans out to be honest.

Went to see a Consultant about birthing options the other day and to be honest it seemed a waste of time, especially after waiting over an hour for the appointment Angry I think I would like to go for an Elective as don't fancy taking risk of another Emcs and also bearing in mind the issues with this baby. They are trying to encourage me to go for a VBAC though!! Need to go back in 4 weeks time after have had fetal heart scan to discuss further.
