Ah, prams. Have spent many hours on the internet over them. We want one that goes from lie flat to sit-up, i.e. birth till 4 yrs or so, and choice of forward or rear facing. Also possibility of another baby in a couple of years, who knows Smile

So our current favourite is the iCandy Peach, anyone have any experience of it? We love how light and sturdy it is, bit on the expensive side though. The other ones we've seen that have the from birth and facing in or out options seemed a bit rickety. But half the price, which is tempting.

Also the Peach can be converted into a double if need be.

KPidgeon · 08/11/2010 16:42

Hi all,

Larty74 and mixedmamameansbusiness we went for the maclaren techno xlr- with the baby carrycot- for that same reason- so the baby could look up at me (or rather me down at him/her) whilst they are little and then move onto a forward facing pushchair when they get bigger.

We bought ours from John Lewis on Saturday- because we are keen- and I feel a great need to be preparing in some way! But also because we had some vouchers from the wedding and want to avoid the VAT hike in January too.

We mainly went for that one because of the mumsnet reviews and also costwise we couldn't afford more really..

I was lucky enough to be given a second hand BabyBjorn sling from my line manager in work. I've read on a couple of sites that they are not suitable for tiny babies/newborns because of lack of support for the spine but friends who've used it said they used it from around 2 months without any problems- and for some it seemed like a Godsend. It seems to have worn really well so maybe ebay is a good place to look- secondhand looks just as good and it can go in the washing machine.

Hope everyone's well. Am getting daily movements- mainly when I'm first awake and eating my marmite on toast! And later in the evenings. But I'm aware of sort of ripplings/shudderings as I sit at my desk in work- maybe the baby turning? Not so much kicking..

Crikey- liquid from the breasts now?! Am impressed.

I had to by new bras yesterday as the others were AGONY! I've gone from a 32B to a 34 E!!!! Am worried about how deflated they will be after I'm done BF (well, hoping I can BF). I don't look that buxom though. My baby bump is deflecting from full breast glory!

Also- mega thirsty still everyday. Am having a grapefruit peeled like an orange every evening. It's bliss.

Take care all.
K

1Catherine1 · 08/11/2010 18:50

Lots of good news on the thread atm which is nice to see. My thirstiness seems to have passed for now but I'm happily feeling her move every day now in the evening mainly when I'm relaxing. The first time I was sure the feeling was baby was Saturday evening when I was lying on the sofa watching TV, made me smile and she's been wriggling every time I rest since. It's reassuring :)

Waiting for lots more good news this week from you ladies having your 20 week scans. And loving the reviews so that us first timers have somewhere to work from. I'm Shock at the cost of baby stuff.

Larty74 · 08/11/2010 21:57

Congrats Kpidgeon on your purchase! still mulling it over, and want to do more in-store trials on a few. Smile

Hurray Catherine - I will never tire of that feeling I look forward to it every night. soon you'll notice it even when you're not sitting still. I might even miss it!

sam26oscar · 08/11/2010 22:29

Just popping in to say hi to everyone, looks like almost all now starting to feel kicks Grin DH felt and saw baby moving on saturday night!! I am getting daily movement now and also through out the day too, very unnerving when stood at supermarket queue and get a thud!!!

I have a consultants appointment tomorrow not really sure why unless its to discuss the birth??
I did have emcs last time though that was 6 yrs ago!! Am hoping to, go for elcs this time as DH will be in Arbroath, Scotland, from January (i live nr Bristol!)to do training as he is going to Afghan late March, i know not great planning!! So am hoping will be able to have cs 1-2 weeks before due date, so he will be able to spend at least a week with us and maybe fit in extra weekend visits.Hope i see a sympathtic consultant with forces experience!!!!!

Jupiter118 · 08/11/2010 22:53

Just popping by to say there occasionally upsides to needing a wee all of the time.

Had rare (like golddust) 1st class ticket for train today.

Was desperate for a wee when got on train so went almost as soon as it left the station, braving the fear that the door would somehow open whilst I was in there (sorry if tmi).

Being in first class the ticket man started in the carriage I was in whilst I was in the loo and never came back to check my ticket. It doesn't expire for ages so can use it again. Yippee!

Agree great to see so much good news - keep it coming.

EvianBaby · 09/11/2010 08:47

Just popping by to say morning to everyone!

sam26oscar - the consultant I saw re: delivery (I had an EMCS) last time) was pretty open minded. We agreed to wait and see the baby's size following growth scans etc however I get the impression that if I had chosen to opt for an elective CS there and then she would have agreed. So I'm sure you won't have too much trouble getting him/her to agree!

jupiter - that is a benefit of the constant weeing! I'm pleased someone has found one!

Anyone else feeling as cumbersome as me? I'm sure I was no where near this size last time!

Oh and finally, does anyone have any experience of/know anyone that has the Phil and Ted Explorer?

Have a good (very rainy) day!

superpenguin · 09/11/2010 10:19

Bras are a nightmare aren't they. Not least because I now have half a drawer-full of lovely ones that I will most likely never be able to wear again.
Do breasts go back to the size they were ever? Or should I just chuch them out and start again?
Am I right in assuming that if I buy new bras now, they will get bigger again when baby comes and I am (hopefully) breast-feeding? and then change again later when finished BF?
I have only ever been small (38A) but already most of my bras are uncomfortable. I measured myself the other day and was a 40B! which is a stupid size to be, because firstly I can't believe I would be a 40, and secondly if you are 40 all shops think you must be at least a C or D so impossible to find anything. 38A was a difficult enough size - only M&S make bras in that size.
ok, bra rant over.

Muser · 09/11/2010 10:29

Get yourself to a decent bra store superpenguin for a measurement. I would lay good money on you walking out a smaller back size and larger cup size. Most women wear the wrong size because they're in too big a back and small a cup. You could walk out a 34D or something.

Bravissimo is for large cup sizes but they'll measure you whatever size you are. John Lewis and Debenhams can be good as well. M&S are usually rubbish. If you are in/near London Rigby & Peller are the best. Although the trick there is to get measured and then go immediately to Debenhams to actually buy bras.

I have given in a bit and bought some Bravado Bodysilk maternity/nursing bras. They are SO comfy and actually not bad for shape. And very stretchy so they can accommodate full of milk boobs, just fed boobs, and all bits in between. I am hoping they will last the rest of pregnancy and beyond.

OP posts:
1Catherine1 · 09/11/2010 10:54

Superpenguin I wonder if Muser might have a really good point there. I currently wear a size 40D and since the size is so hard to find I find bra shopping near impossible. I was fitted at La Senza about 8 months ago with this size and although it is more comfortable than the one I'm wearing before I find it difficult to believe I am that big. I wear a size 14 (pre pregnancy) which I always believed wasn't really that much above average so I don't understand why I should struggle to find the size for clothes I wear underneath.

My problem with bra shopping is the terrible distance I have to travel to get one. If I go to my local town I'm stuck with La Senza who did it for me last time. So my only choice seems to be to jump onto a train into London (45 minutes-ish) just to be fitted for a bra. That extra £20 makes it one expensive bra!

Muser · 09/11/2010 11:04

You could do it yourself, if you're willing to spend some time trying on a LOT of bras. There's a guide on the Bravissimo website to how a bra should fit. www.bravissimo.com/perfectfit/default.aspx

Basically, if you go down a band size and up a cup size a few times, you can see how you get on. That is what good bra places will do, they won't come near you with a measuring tape, just eye you up and bring a load of bras until the fit is right.

Before I went to Rigby & Peller I was wearing a 38C. R&P whacked me into a 32D and suddenly I had these amazing boobs. I'm now a 34F. That sounds a crazy size. But I'm a size 14 top, I don't look crazy busty. The cup size on a 34F isn't actually that different to a 38C. The difference is you're getting the underband to support more, because it's a snug fit.

If you think about it, the tape measure approach tells you to add inches to get your band measurement. You wouldn't do that for anything else, would you? If you're buying trousers and you have a 30 inch waist, you don't get trousers with a 34 inch waist, they'll fall down. Why should your bra be different?

KPidgeon · 09/11/2010 11:42

Hi- just quickly on bras- I got measured for a maternity fitting on Saturday in Debenhams- really nice lady (she's due on the 25th March too so could be one of our gang!).

I've gone for padded (I hate my nipples showing through clothes- sorry TMI!) but not underwired- as she said underwiring from now on could impede breast milk or something..

They are big but with room for me to grow a bit more (wearing the tightest fitting at the moment).

£18 for 2. So I got 4. I think that's an okay price but again we used our wedding vouchers (poor husband isn't getting much of a look in with those- just bras that are bigger than his head!)

I'm 34E with my pregnant boobs but don't look anything like that. I think I still look like a B/C.

Mum said her boobs went back to pre-pregnancy size after me (baby 1) but stayed big after my bro (baby 2) but she stayed a bit bigger all over after baby 2. Don't chuck your nice bras out yet though superpenguin or you may kick yourself. I've chucked everything that I can't fit into anymore (nearly all my non maternity clothes) into a suitcase because there's no point in them taking up room in my wardrobe- I doubt I'll see them again until at least July!

Evianbaby I feel cumbersome and big too. Commuting at the moment is not pleasant!

Have a good Tuesday everyone.

K

Jupiter118 · 09/11/2010 11:55

Agree M&&S rubbish for bras - they always tell me I'm something like a 38C (which makes boobs look awful). Am actually usually a 34E.

Would keep bras til after as did eventually go back to pre-preg size last time.

Bravissimo, John Lewis, Rigby & peller all good as are online places (once size figured) - figleaves, Bare Necessities.

Am currently in mothercare hideous t-shirt mat bras though (34F). They are quite comfy now I have removed a plastic bit sewn into the sides and reasonably supportive.

Might get sized for a decent underwired one for the Crimbo season!

sac55 · 09/11/2010 13:37

Hello everyone,

Had my scan this morning....baby was a bit camera shy and I had to be sent out to drink some more water in the middle. Still, pleased to see the word "normal" all over the notes as I had been a bit apprehensive.

Next stop: to start shopping. I'd been thinking of putting off shopping for pushchair, car seat etc. until the January sales but had forgotten about the VAT hike so will start doing some research now.

Re bras: La Senza are pretty rubbish when it comes to measuring...they actually told me they couldn't figure out what size I was when I was doing wedding shopping (I'm not that weirdly-shaped). I ended up going to Rigby & Peller and finally learnt what a well-fitting bra feels like. I've had to put all my nice ones to one side and went to M & S a few weeks back. The fitter said I appeared to have gone up from a 30D to a 36D but I said that sounded ridiculous and we compromised on 34D for the time being.

Next time, the list is updated could I please be added? I'm due 23/03. Thanks.

Lozario · 09/11/2010 14:08

After I breast-fed DS for 9 months, once my boobs had gone down, I was 2 cup sizes smaller than before I was pregnant!! Gutted!!! :-(

KPidgeon · 09/11/2010 15:30

Lozario- Noooo! I didn't know that could happen. My word I'll be flat as a pancake if that happens to me!

haloflo · 09/11/2010 17:02

Congrats on the scan sac55 and welcome to the thread.

I had my repeat scan today and after much jiggling the baby was fine. Its such a relief.

Unfortunatly we wanted to find out the sex and he/she was being very modest both last week and today. I guess I will just have to be patient and start googling the old wives tales about predicting the sex!

All the best to those having scans this week.

Just updating the list to remove my scan date and add the word surprise.

Hi all, god there's so many of us now, I can't keep up! I've not read back but I hope you're all well.

It was my DD's second birthday last Friday, I can't believe how quickly the two years have gone, I know it's a cliche but don't wish away a second of the baby years becuase they're gone in the blink of an eye. The toddler years are pretty entertaining though Wink

My SPD has got far worse, I can hardly walk today, I'm waiting for a call back from the doctor to get some crutches and am going to go off work sick because sitting at a desk is just making it far worse and I'm an accountant so that's all I do!!

I heard though... (although this might not be right) that after you stop breastfeeding your boobs shrink for a while but regain their natural size (cup size at least - I believe the back size is irreversible) after about a year.

I read this on a thread somewhere else on mumsnet where a woman was debating whether she should get implants after what breastfeeding had done to her boobs. A few women said the same thing so maybe it's true? Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Anyway... off out for a non-baby purchase. Been a while since I made one of those. The OH insists we need a rug to warm up our cold front room and as he's an Aries, there's no time like the present! Sad I hope this baby isn't late, I couldn't cope with 2 Aries in the house.

I'm another needing new bras now. My previously slightly too big ones are now starting to dig in.

me23 · 09/11/2010 19:41

I really need maternity bras I went into m&s but couldn't figue out what size I am. I'm usually 38b so tried 38c and was too tight, I can't believe I could be a d or a smaller back size, but maybe I could be.

silly question but when you get measured do you have to get your boobs out completely? (I don't like my boobs so would't feel comfortable)

I'm still not feeling much movement from bump very soft occassional flutters but not everyday..

I finally have my scan next week (Monday) Think I may be the last on here to have it.

Medee · 09/11/2010 19:47

Not in M+S, I don't think. But seriously, you'll get a far better fit if you get measured bra-less. The best fitters (e.g. in R+P) can do it just looking at you.

That's possibly true about boobs going smaller and then bigger again, but I only had four months between finishing breastfeeding and then getting preg again so not really long enough to see. That's encouraging news though - I'd resigned myself to those fried eggs!!!

me23 I've got my scan next Fri (19th) because my Sarf London hossie does the anomoly scan at 22 weeks. I reckon we must be the last! Have to say though, it's come around really fast this time.
