Hi Muser and happy new year to you all!

Things are ok here so far. 7+3 now and back into the merry world of all day nausea and also puking. Hopefully for all of you that is a distant memory!

Looking forward to your birth announcements. I would be 32+5 today, still counting Smile

Medee · 05/01/2011 21:42

Great news, Purple, she's a wee figher.

Nice to see you too Split, hope all continues to go uneventfully.

sam26oscar · 05/01/2011 22:44

Hi Split Glad you feeling like shit Grin Grin, Thought it was a distant memory but have distinct feeling that nasty metalic taste rearing its ugly head again, along with slight nausea at night, but that could just be trying to eat tea with not much room in there now!!

Larty74 · 05/01/2011 23:55

Was just wondering about you today spilt glad to hear you are well (or not for that matter) and same to you purple Smile

Anyone else feel like they've had a gastric band put on? I'm now more than halving my portions and still feel full most of the day.

gem3225 · 06/01/2011 13:44

happy New year to all and good news from SPLIT and purple

SEX......i thought that being pregnant meant your sex drive was high and sex was better la la la. BUT i just am the opposite Envy

i have suffered alot from thrush that seems to flare up afterwards which then makes me slightly nervous about doing it again. Plus i dont feel overly sexy.

does anyone else feel the same or am i just unlucky. Remember watching that Dawn has a baby programme and she was saying her sex life was better than before!!!!!!!

help .. Sad

mixedmamameansbusiness · 06/01/2011 14:19

Hahaha Gem - in the second trimester I was regularly waking DH up int he middle of the night. Now however, I seem to have permanently swollen bits Blush I asked the MW about it and she said all completely normal but has put me off a little. However, I did have sex the night before DS1 was born so who knows.

split good to hear from you.

pleassed mat keave is starting soon for many of you.

i took the pushchair out today with DS2 and he wouldnt get out to walk up the stairs and i fell up the stairs for the secodn time - really hurt. he needs to walk now no matter what.

massively distressing news at school this morning that one of the mums due one week after me lost her baby over xmas.... made me cry in the playground. just makes you realise truly what a miracle each and every baby is.

gem3225 · 06/01/2011 15:18

MIXED i do hope your ok. Sad sad news re that poor mum, cant believe it, just when you think you are home and dry. Makes you really count your blessings.

Ive changed my maternity start date now, going to try and work up to 28 Feb!!! due date 9th March so i can have longer at the end, as my maternity leave is only going to be 6 months but with 4 weeks leave tagged onto the end.

Still no buggy, thinking of Quinny buzz now, i just dont know.

And yes 'swelling' is a good description Wink

the joys of being preggers Smile

Medee · 06/01/2011 15:42

We've gone for the Quinny Buzz.

KPidgeon · 06/01/2011 15:45

Spilt- lovely to hear from you and good to hear things are progressing as usual (though sorry the nausea is back- yuk, poor you!)

Thanks for your reassurance on my commuter rage ladies. I'm calmer today!

Had my 28 wk appt this morning and all is well. Midwife said that the baby is normal sized, as is my bump. Phew!

Also pleased that at the moment the baby is in the right position. Of course he could still flip but I was convinced he was feet down as I feel little kicks and tickles all the time at the bottom of my bump and nothing near my ribs. Must be strong fists though!

Gem ours was a honeymoon conception and my poor husband has not had much nookie since. First trimester I was sick as a dog and although I felt like it way more in the second trimester he was too worried about hurting baby/me when he saw a bump forming so it's off the menu for the time being. Other fun to be had though!

Jupiter sorry to hear about your work/lawyer issues. It's definitely a help psychologically to be able to count down the days/ weeks to maternity leave now though isn't it.

me23 · 06/01/2011 16:39

Hi all, Glad to hear things are well with spilt and purples scan went well.
I had my 29 week appt today all is well got a nice big 'booked for homebirth' stamp on front of my notes Grin Also it will be her or another mw who she introduced me to that will attend my homebirth, I was worried I would just end up with any old mw as you do in hospital so I'm pleased I will know my mw which is quite rare in London!

only problem was the HIP grant, mw tried to tell me I was too late to get it and that they had stopped it now as the forms needed to be signed by 1st jan which I know simply isn't true Hmm so she backdated one for me even though she didn't need to! I'm now wondering how many other women who are entitled to it aren't getting it because mws don't have the correct information.

1Catherine1 · 06/01/2011 17:08

me You are obviously too rich - I was so desperate for mine that I was on the phone at 24 weeks asking when I could pick up the form and then when I picked it up at 25+2 I filled in the relevant bits there and then at the GP surgery and posted it on the way home making sure that I got it in before the last collection of the day - GIMME MONEY!!! - Babies are WAY expensive Grin Glad you still getting your pennies though :)

Today I was told that my bump was small and perfect, the lady who told me this also told me that she thought I wasn't carrying much baby weight so she thought I'd be back to my old shape in no time after the birth. 1 hour later my year 10s told me I was massive Confused followed by one particular boy saying "no she's just fat" Angry Then two nicer girls asked me how long I had left and then told me she thought my bump was just fine. I'm glad I got her approval Hmm I really wish people would stop passing comments on my bump, I would never dream of passing comment on their bodies. Evidence from today also shows that they don't have a clue what they're talking about - any of them!

On the whole sex issue - I'm sure my OH thinks I'm more attractive than before. I made the slightest effort on NYE and he told me that I looked sexy as he touched my obvious bump and then quickly added "as always". He's a star. But I've kinda lost interest because I find it uncomfortable although the sex drive is still there I am put off knowing that I won't really enjoy it like I did pre-bump. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

Anyway - time to make that bump massive again by making myself some dinner, tonight - Beef stroganoff with rice, YUMMY :)

gem3225 · 07/01/2011 10:36

glad im not the only one then. My OH does think im sexy with a bump so atleast thats a good thing even if i cant be arsed. My new rule is to try harder!!!!!!

treating myself today to some higlights as my hair is awful. My stepdad asked me why my hair was 3 different colours Blush

im getting very excited now, 8 weeks 5 days to go......blimmey. Got most things sorted out and im going to try and sort my hospital bag out today, go and get all the essentials.

Does anyone know if you can use normal pads like always or do you have to buy the proper ones from mothercare?

i bet you cant.

anyhow have a good day everyone.

Muser · 07/01/2011 10:39

You can use normal pads gem but you want big maximum strength ones. Someone I know was advised by a midwife not to use Always as the lining they use can irritate stitches. Kotex were recommended to me as being suitably thick and comfy.

gem3225 · 07/01/2011 10:46

thanks muser

gem3225 · 07/01/2011 10:48

medee

can you fold the buzz with the seat unit attached or do you have to take it off?

they do look really lovely, im so tempted but waiting on the prospect of a free bugaboo Smile keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

spaceal · 07/01/2011 11:17

Hi all. Been quite a busy week baby-wise. As I said, we had out first antenatal class on Monday which was good. Learnt quite a lot about pain management options and the early stages of labour, and the other couples all seemed nice. Our due date in pretty much in the middle of the group, which hopefully means we won't be the last, but can also hear about how the first ones get on. How was your class, Muser?

Also had midwife on Weds and I'm measuring 30 weeks at 30 weeks (now 31 actually) so that's good. We've also got another scan on Monday - we're at high risk of Downs and refused an amnio so we're getting lots of extra reassuring scans Grin - I imagine our little one will be looking very babylike at 31+4 Grin

I'm feeling very achey round the pelvis, don't think it's full-blown SPD, but it certainly makes getting up and down from the sofa/bed/etc awkward. Can't imagine getting up to much sex-wise Blush. We conceived really quickly too (despite me having PCOS) so I think my OH is probably feeling a little hard done by too.

It's all feeling very close now, 6 weeks to full-term - eeek. Don't know whether any other first time mums are struggling to get their heads round what it's actually going to be like having a baby, but I am. I'm really excited but have absolutely no idea what it's really going to be like!

Bought some very nice clothes (cardis and a v cute dress for 6-9 months) in the Boots sale - but think I should perhaps have been focusing on buying the essentials Hmm.

Medee · 07/01/2011 11:17

good question - I have only seen it collapsed with the seat unit off, so I suspect not.

spaceal · 07/01/2011 11:19

We'er going for the Mamas and Papas Sola, buggy-wise. Liked the look of it online and liked it in the shop. Decent size and foldable with the seat in. My OH loves the icandy peach but I think it's the size of a tank (and ridiculously expensive!).

Purplefan · 07/01/2011 11:47

Good to hear from you Spilt - glad things are going well for you and fingers crossed that they continue that way too!

Thanks for everyone for all your support and well wishes etc.. you are all lovely Wink

Isn't scary now that the new year is here - how fast time is moving! I really need to get my ass in gear and get organised, although it is only a matter of rounding up baby stuff from before that has been leant out to others and getting some stuff out of the loft, shouldn't have to purchase much Hmm

Keep well everyone!! x

1Catherine1 · 07/01/2011 12:31

Spaceal I think the icandy peach does fold up rather small. I briefly remember checking the dimensions when folded when I briefly forgot I was on a budget Wink I hear it costs around the thousand pound mark new and the ones going on e-bay easily go for over £500 second hand. Apparently iCandy don't allow companies to sell the iCandy online or advertise it online so you can't get prices without being harassed by sales assistants. I would get it if money wasn't an obstacle but realistically I do think it is extravagantly expensive for what it is. Kinda like those £600 cots you see or the designer baby clothes.

I'm really desperate to try out the Babystyle Oyster but I need to find a shop that stocks it so I can see if it fits in the boot of my car. I have been looking at them and really like them although I'd want a unisex option so have to hunt out an all black one!

bluebeach · 07/01/2011 13:33

Everyone seems back in the swing of this chat thing, It was so quiet over Christmas!

Purplefan, so pleased that everything is looking good with your little girl.

Sam, I would definitely go mad at the hand luggage thing.

I always thought a handbag didn't count, what if you had just had a carrier bag with you, I bet they wouldn't have said anything! Totally agree...jobsworth!

Nice to hear from you Split, Sorry that you are feeling poorly but glad everything is going well. You are in Gloucestershire too aren't you? I'm still booked into stroud. Are you planing on a home birth again?

K pidge, people are just plain rude, whether you are pregnant or not there is not need to barge. I hope he felt incredibly bad and guilty for doing that. It's horrid esp when you are feeling so protective of your bump.

I'm 8 weeks today, and glad that some of you guys sound as un prepared as me. I still haven't bought anything but we have been very lucky with hand me downs and I have a super friend who has a 25% discount at John lewis who is taking me shopping in a few weeks. I must write a list!!

I spoilt myself with a pregnancy massage today, the lady was lovely. It was like having a really attentive midwife. It was about an hour long and she chatted to me for 40 mins before hand about how I was doing, all for £30. I feel like I'm robbing her!

I still have 6 weeks at work, but I'm a home worker. I would be finishing a lot earlier if I had to commute!

well take care everyone xxx

bluebeach · 07/01/2011 13:35

ooops, 8 weeks 'to go' today!

me23 · 07/01/2011 14:38

haha catherine certainly not rich but not very organised! In fact hope money goes in quickly as we are skint at the moment.

my bump has completely changed shape in the last few days, over xmas baby was breech position bump was very hard and stood out now baby is transverse and bump looks so much smaller and is very soft.

I need to buy some bits for me big knickers, pads, breast pads, nursing bras, pjs.

Does anyone else have a baby who isn't very active? I'm not worried about movements baby moves same amount each day so it is normal for him. Sometimes he doesn't move for hours at a time, eg this morning I didn't feel movement until 1pm. Also I am nver woken up or kept awake at night by him moving-not even sure if he does move during the night as I don't feel anything.

KPidgeon · 07/01/2011 14:43

Thank you Blue. Don't think he felt guilty at all- think it's a London thing sadly. But we are escaping to the country soon after the baby is born- can't wait to turn my back on this commute for at least a year!

Your massage sounds like a brilliant idea.. think I'll have to get one from my husband tonight as a poor alternative!

I reckon I'll be one of the last on here having a baby. I know you will all have plenty of other priorities (!) but do let us know when your babies arrive and that all is well. I'll be enormous and impatient by then so will want your good news to get me through March and possibly into April if mine doesn't come on time!

K

KPidgeon · 07/01/2011 14:46

me- I got my grant through today- sent it off on the 13th December and had christmas in between so I think they are quick. About two weeks tops usually.

I feel the baby mostly at night when it proper tickles either side of me. Then he keeps me company a bit in work but I can go hours without feeling anything. Never really big jabs either.. much more like tickles (so far) and my stomach was the slimmest bit of me before so it's not because of excess padding! Although I do have a lot more of that than I used to..

Oh dear, I'm clearly avoiding writing up my job manual. Should get back to it instead of having my head on baby matters all the time!
