Lovely names everyone. We still have to come up with one for each. I have tried experimenting by inserting various names into silly songs to sing to the baby with varying degrees of success. I have a feeling I might just be calling it baby for a while.

Our Nct class was cancelled this month as not enough people were on it. They have put me on one that starts in Feb now, so I'm hoping my 4th of march baby doesn't show up early!

Back at work and faced with a mountain to get through. I think they are trying to get the most out of me before I leave. Luckily I work from home so it doesn't seem so bad (though I was saintly and got up at 6 this morning to make DP his porridge!). It felt like the middle of the night seeing as we had been lazing in bed till midday over the hols!

Not long now!!!

Welcome to the club flootshoot. Newcomers always welcome on our cosy little corner of MN.

Well, like I said I would check in to keep me awake and surprisingly I'm managing quite well. Feeling a little tired but not that much considering I've had only 3 hours sleep in the last 24 hours (thank god for my 1 hour catnap yesterday afternoon).

You have all kept me suitably entertained on checking back in and Lozario I must admit, unless I'm going out I happily stay in my 'jamas all day. I get dressed only to go out and then happily swap back into the PJs when I get home. Blush I'm sure babies love it as much as I do. I am hoping to only buy the basics and leave the cute outfits to the first time grandparents/aunts/uncles with the exception of a cute going home outfit that I'm hoping she can wear when I get a picture of baby, mum and papa on the day she is born. Getting all excited already! Grin

New annoying pregnancy symptom today - had terrible pins and needles in my legs that got so bad I sent a pupil down to the first aid room for a heat pack to ease the pain. Luckily my year 11s are the nicest kids and happily behaved themselves for an hour for me. Irritated me mainly because I spent 20 minutes this morning discussing with 2 other women in my department whether I would make it to 39 weeks working or not - they both reckon I won't and give me "till the end of February". Of course I was grateful for the vote of confidence {sarcastic tone}

Medee · 04/01/2011 14:46

welcome flootshoot

Really blue? Our NCT has a 30 couple waiting list, I guess you'll be other end of the country to me though!

bluebeach · 04/01/2011 17:45

yep, In fact we actually had two sets of classes cancelled and have now moved us to a busier class with 4 couples on in another town. We were offered a one to one with the teacher which we turned down as the whole reason we decided to do the classes was to make friends.

I was so panicky to get on a course I signed up at 10 weeks... now it seems like there are no babies being born in Gloucestershire in march!!

At least it might mean the MLU will be quite and I'll get the birth pool!

bluebeach · 04/01/2011 17:46

sorry quiet not quite

Muser · 04/01/2011 17:49

I'm in London spaceal, so definitely not the same class!

OP posts:
Medee · 04/01/2011 18:06

I booked us on really early, so early I worried I was jinxing things, and am really glad I did.

March is apparently a popular month for births. Just not in Gloucestershire though, obviously!

niamh29 · 04/01/2011 19:01

Lozario/Catherine: I'm with ye, newborns are best kept in vests and sleepsuits for the first couple of months, anything else is just fiddly. And all ye need is to buy the essentials, relatives usually buy outfits so you can use those for outings!

I started back to work today and couldn't get to sleep for ages last night, DH reckoned I was excited about going back to work (he's very funny), so very tired now, I usually sleep great and need at least 8 hours!

Larty74 · 04/01/2011 19:22

I'm with Lozario - if I could wear a sleepsuit all day I would as well! I also think "grown up" outfits on newborns is a bit odd, but that's just me!

Kind of getting anxious to get back home and really get stuck into getting things ready. Ocassionally get slight moments of panic that realistically LO could come at any moment! Starting classes just after getting back as well. eek!

sam26oscar · 04/01/2011 22:52

Hi ladies,
have just caught up with everyones news, apologies for not mentioning names but poor you who had swine flu!! I can't believe m/w said you weren't in the at risk catagory Confused am so glad i had it a few wekks ago!
I have just returned from Dundee after taking DH to his new place of work for next 2 years, DS was very excited to see daddy's new place but what a nightmare getting home.
Am very upset with Easyjet Angry I realise that rules are rules, however, i had 1 piece of hand luggage, a small holdall, DS had his little case and my handbag. I was told after i had shown my fit to fly note, (so she knew i was pregnant even if you could have missed the huge growth out of my stomach area!!) that i couldn't take on my handbag as well as holdall and to fit it in my hand luggage otherwise i wouldn't be able to get on the plane. All said in front of DS who promptly burst into tears as he (like me) just wanted to go home. That wouldn't have been too bad apart from the fact that whilst she said this a lady with a handbag and 2 pieces of hand luggage walked straight by her Shock. I don't usually lose my temper however i was livid and did shout at her that someone had just walked straight past her with 3 pieces of hand luggage, probably shouldn't have in case she did stop me getting on the flight but i was sooo cross!

Anyway rant over now, am calm and glad to be back Smile Have just realised that only got 7 weeks on thursday to go .

OMG Shock

Maybe i should think about getting moses basket and clothes ready for this one!! Sil has given me some white newborn babygros over christmas and sister has bought few items for me, but have just been concentrating on moving DH to Scotland and getting christmas out the way really!!

Just read that back and looks like i have had DH removed!!! He is in HM Forces and on a 2 year exchange with regt in Scotland!! Not great timing but there we go!!!

Hope you all feeling well and not oo out of breath and useless because you cant reach feet!!! xx

Honeymoonmummy · 04/01/2011 22:54

Talking of newborn essentials, I had some great "nightshirts" for DD when she was a newborn, got them from Mothercare but I don't know if they still do them, I still have DD's which I'll use again for DS. They go the full length of the body and have an elasticated bottom so they stay down but easy for changing nappies and they have built-in scratch mitts.

Jupiter118 · 04/01/2011 23:49

Hello all Happy New Year (waves and grins to all). Have been trying to keep up by reading on phone, but not posted for ages with crimbo and everything. Can't believe 2011 is here and babies are imminent.

Very unprepared on baby front here - DS1 still in cotbed as bed, baby stuff all still in loft, house a tip, baby clothes in a muddle. Oh well. Have ordered new car seat though (thank you HIP grant) and need to pick up from JLP at the weekend.

Had 28w scan last week, all good measuring about 3 days ahead (irony is that I think that is exactly what should be measuring ISYWIM), sex is still unknown - baby does not want us to know, but scan woman said if she had to bet she would say girl. Who knows? As long as healthy I don't mind. Saw v entertaining Dr (registrar) also who said that scan and blood pressure were boootiful in v entertaining eastern european accent - v funny. Back at 32w for another scan etc. Only niggles are am v itchy (have had blood taken to check for liver thing?) and bit of pelvic pain at night.

I remember seeing the nightshirt things s/w the other day - never had any, but sure they still do them.

Must buy scratch mitts!

Sam Angry at the easyjet woman - jobsworth!!!

Catherine - also loving the jammies/ trackie b's here!!

How annoying about cancelled classes - hope that you get new ones sorted.

Swine flu - hope if people have had it they are recovering. Glad had jab - currently wondering if should pay private GP to have DS jabbed? Don't want hime to be ill and also not fancying prospect of looking after poorly child/DH when even more heavily preggers.

Names - undecided here (mainly as sex unknown), but shortlist forming which includes Emilia, Harriet, Zach, Oliver and can't remember the rest (baby brain has taken hold for good).

Finishing work early Feb(cannot wait!)34 weeks so hope to have at least 4 weeks of R&R/nesting/preparation (DS induced at 38w due to high blood pressure/mild preeclampsia)

Right bed - DH is watching the cricket (again), but I need to try and get some sleep.

Jxx

1Catherine1 · 05/01/2011 00:29

Sam you poor woman!!! I would have been equally livid! How silly and petty to fuss over a little handbag. I doubt she would have even tried to stop you getting on the flight if she wanted to. It seems socially acceptable to be overly emotional when pregnant and showing. Rules are rules but I'm guessing it was a domestic flight and probably not exactly full anyway.

RockChick1984 · 05/01/2011 10:04

Sam how annoying for you, even without being pregnant I think I would have kicked off about the other woman being allowed on and you not!

Is anyone thinking of trying raspberry leaf tea? When are you starting taking it? I saw some in tesco so have bought a box to try in a few weeks, but am already getting braxton hicks so I'm a bit nervous as I've read that it makes them worse! Have u all got your birth plans sorted yet? Xxx

mixedmamameansbusiness · 05/01/2011 10:27

Good morning everyone.

Sorry if I dont refer to people by name - I am rubbish at this.

I do try to dress babies, but I plan to use only all in one stretchy suits with socks so almost like PJs and not jeans and all sorts. My mum went on and on about dressing DS1 when he was a baby so he would get used to being changed into his PJs at night Hmm although for the first few weeks on the school run I suspect there may well be a time where baby is just left and put in the pushchair - no big deal really. TBH DSs and I have spent most of the holidays in our PJs.

Had my MW appointment yesterday. Finally seen the same MW more than once. Baby is head down, need some iron tablets but otherwise all well. Next appointment in 3 weeks at 34 weeks.

Birth plans - I dont have anything written down but essentially.

  • Go to birth centre as opposed to labour ward (all in the same place really so can always move)
  • Gas and Air (I love gas and air so much)
  • Possibly use the birthing pool
  • Keep active and be allowed to move around at will
  • No epidural and ideally no pethidine but will consider pethidine if it goes on for a long time for some respite
  • Baby straight to me
  • DH to cut cord if possible (he has missed out both times with this)
  • Help with feeding as soon as possible
  • Injection for 3rd stage
  • Baby to have vit K (or is it D) injection

Ideally - I would like to just say home birth but DH still not on board with that.

superpenguin · 05/01/2011 13:16

Hello everyone,
Happy new year!

Sorry not been around much the last couple of weeks, but just been catching up with all your posts.

Every week the speed time goes by seems to increase - anyone else feel that? I'm now 31 weeks +5.

Good news is we painted our spare-room / nursery-to-be during my week off work between christmas and new year. Gone for a lovely pale yellow. Have ordered some very funky curtains with jungle animals on them so just waiting for them to arrive.
Not bought a cot yet and not planning to buy one for a few months as nowhere to put it.
My sister bought us a moses basket for xmas, which is lovely. So the plan is that baby will sleep in that, in our room, to start with. Then when he grows out of that we will move him into cot in his own room.
In the meanwhile there is a single bed in the room which will stay where it is for now as will be useful for visitors coming to stay. When we get the cot though, the bed will have to go as no room for both.

We also unexpectedly got given a car seat from some friends who are moving abroad and can't take it with them. Although we were planning to buy a new car seat, this one is in really good condition as only used for a few months, so we now don't need to - very pleased.

Adding to the maternity leave discussions, I am finishing work at 38 weeks (18 Feb) - got the rest of this week then 6 more weeks to go, and counting...!

KPidgeon · 05/01/2011 16:23

Hi all,
I feel like I'm copping out a bit but have just brought forward my date to start maternity leave (well, actually annual leave for 3 weeks then mat leave) to 35 weeks as the commute into and back from work is just getting harder So I'm due now to finish on the 18th February,.

Anyone else commuting in London?

I had a rage episode this morning. I bent down to get a metro from the stand at Wimbledon station this morning and a man behind me rammed me from behind into the stand (bump squashed up against it) rather than wait for all of 5 seconds for me to pick up the paper or ask me to move. I was angry then had to stop myself crying. Arghh! Over it now but people in a hurry when you feel like a big hormonal whale are not pleasant.

Sorry- a mini rant/ attention seek/reassurance seek!

K

Hey ho- I've officially got

KPidgeon · 05/01/2011 16:24

Oops- just meant to say 32 working/commuting days to go.. and counting!

1Catherine1 · 05/01/2011 17:00

KPidgeon feel free to rant/attention seek/reassurance seek as much as you need to :) It was very rude of him.

I'm also feeling like my work colleagues might be right and I won't make it till March 13th like I planned. Problem is I'm just in so much pain by the end of the day. I have started suffering with pins and needles in my right leg which tends to come on after teaching 2 lessons, third lesson I'm in agony and have to put my feet up. Seems silly to complain about pins and needles but it is constant and lasts hours. Strangely my drive home seems to relieve it - maybe there is something about the positioning of my feet in the car that helps... That is worth investigating, maybe later, for now I need a cat nap :)

sam26oscar · 05/01/2011 17:03

All this talk about going on mat leave is soo exciting, can remember when we cautiously talked about getting thru one week at a time Smile I am finishing work on 9th Feb so 2 weeks before s/he gets cut out from me Grin!! Hope all had good day xx

Purplefan · 05/01/2011 19:50

Hi,
Meant to pop on here yesterday, but was worn out after first day back at school (even though it was a TD day) and trip to Oxford for fetal scan.

Grin Good news.. her heart is looking ok.. there is still a dispropotion between the left and right heart structures (right being larger), although this is probably normal!! Grin
With that said.. there is still a small chance that a coarctation could develop post natally (this is apparently quite common in girls with Turners syndrome)
We have to go back in 1 months time but all being well this will mean that baby can be delivered locally with a full cardiac assessment before discharge!
So, our little girl is definately a fighter and is doing so well despite all the doom and gloom in the beginning (that seems like a life-time ago now!)

Sam can't believe what that nasty jobsworth did to you!!! Angry
KPidgeon sorry to hear you had to encounter that horrid man!!

To join in with the Mat leave count... I work 3 days a week and have worked out that I now only have 18 working days left until I am on my mat leave!!! Shock that is Feb half term with me finishing work on 16th Feb, but only officially starting leave on 28th Feb (end of half-term)!
xx

Muser · 05/01/2011 20:03

Wonderful news purplefan, your little girl is such a fighter.

Muser · 05/01/2011 20:44

How are things with you spilt?

OP posts:
Jupiter118 · 05/01/2011 21:02

Purple fan - great news! Grin

Kpidgeon - grrrrr at that man so rude!!!

Spilt - hello happy new year hope things are going well for you.

Rant alert lawyers (sorry if you are one) why so disorganised and leave everything until last minute??? Had to work til 8 tonight due to last minute lawyer tendencies (am long suffering marketing manager). Consoled though by thought that in 4 weeks and 1 day it is someone else's problem for a good long while. Arrrrrgggghhhh!!!

This then followed by TMI from taxi driver (work paid for cab) who told me that his wife wee'd herself when she had flu - just me perhaps but didn't want to know!
