Happy new year to you all, I hope 2011 brings nothing but happy healthy babies for us all!

We have also decided our name: Mya

Not telling anyone in "real" life, but I'm sure ye will keep it quiet : ))

StrangewaysHereICome · 31/12/2010 21:31

Just popping in to wish everyone a very happy New Year, and let's hope 2011 is full of happiness for us all.

We had a lovely relaxing Christmas, although I am now very uncomfortable and having lots of Braxton Hicks especially at night. The nausea has come back too which I am not best pleased with, I have even started wretching into the the sink at times. Only 8 weeks to go now Shock.

Take care all x

chickiewoo · 31/12/2010 21:43

Just a quick hello and Happy New Year to you all - love and best wishes for 2011. I too, am feeling very uncomfortable most of the time, difficulty sleeping and in and out of bed to go to the loo each night! My nausea has returned with a vengeance since Boxing Day - only 12 weeks to go and counting! Not decided on names yet - or should I say - me and DH can't agree! Take care xxx

Kagey · 31/12/2010 22:34

Happy new year to you all!

Emma I hope you feel better soon.

We cannot decide on any boys names so here's hoping baby is a girl. The name we can agree on is Jessica.

sittinghippo · 01/01/2011 09:37

Happy New Year one and all!
Haven't posted for a long time, I was offline for a couple of weeks at the beginning of December, and have been trying to catch up on all the posts ever since! Every time I come on I read another page and then before I know it there are 2 more pages, so have been playing catch up for ages. At least it was a bit quieter over Christmas so am finally up to date.
Its great to hear how everyone is getting on, the end is slowly looming closer, I can almost see the finish line - especially now I can say it is going to be this year.

Not having any Braxton Hicks, what do they feel like? I have consultant appointment next week to discuss VBAC, and am crossing all my fingers and toes that this baby doesnt stay breech as would really like to give birth the natural way! I feel a little hard done by to have never experienced labour or even a contraction, it seems like it's a sort of 'right of passage' ...

Well Happy New Year to you all again, at least none of us are nursing hangovers this year... (I hopeHmm)

TooImmature2BMum · 01/01/2011 15:17

Happy New Year! Did everyone have good Christmasses?

Isn't it fascinating how there's always other people on here experiencing the same things as you? I got all dizzy and nearly passed out last Monday, so it is reassuring to hear that this has been happening to others and that midwives have said it's all okay! It was the weirdest feeling - everything went all swimmy and my vision was filled with moving dots and my hands tingled like pins and needles. I was helping MIL cook and I basically ran out of the kitchen and upstairs and collapsed on my bed (didn't want to pass out in public!), and I had a high-pitched ringing in my ears that gradually eased off. I was white as a sheet when I looked in the mirror, which is very unlike me. I wondered about calling the midwife, but I had no pain or bleeding and the baby kicked strongly to reassure me, and I felt much better after DH brought me a sandwich, so I refrained.

SIL gave me heaps of hand-me-down designer baby clothes - baby will be much better dressed than me! Baby Chloe, Paul Smith, Cath Kidston...wow! She also gave me heaps of baby coat hangers, which I will so never use. I don't hang my own clothes, much less tiny baby ones! She's also given me her Maxicosi car seat and Baby Bjorn sling, so I feel much better equipped than I did before Christmas. We've got the Ikea Hensvik cot, courtesy of PIL, so DH has some building to do soon.

I can't believe there are only about 2 months left! I'm 31+2 today - eek! It could be as little as 6 or 7 more weeks, or as many as 11. Everything seems to intensify now too - flu jab on 6 Jan, plus first ante-natal class, another midwife appt on 11 Jan and weekly ante-natal classes for the whole of January. Scary yet exciting Grin

TooImmature2BMum · 01/01/2011 17:39

I forgot to say I had small milk/colostrum leak on Boxing Day from right boob. I was reading in bed before getting up and suddenly felt a wet cold sensation - looked down and pyjama top had little wet circle over my nipple! Anyone else had this?

edeluna · 01/01/2011 18:07

Happy New Year, everyone! Hope you all had a lovely New Year's Eve. I didn't even make it to midnight this year -- the in-laws were here all week (lovely visit; they left yesterday afternoon) and I've got an icky head cold, so I was ready for sleep!

Today I find I'm in hyper-nesting mode. I've only got two more weeks of work before maternity leave. That's give me eight weeks before my due date, but there's still SO MUCH to do and organize. It's a little overwhelming and I think I need to make some lists and prioritize so it's all a bit more manageable. The main things I'm looking into right now: pushchairs, cotbeds and reusable nappies.

I have a lead on a second-hand Bugaboo Chameleon, but I'm thinking it might be too big/heavy and cumbersome. I'll mostly be on foot and dealing with buses and Tubes, so 9kg + baby is possibly a lot to be lugging about! Anyone have experience to share? The Bee looks more compact and very pretty ... but they are expensive, so I'm very open to suggestions on other brands.

Also, question about Moses baskets. Are they really necessary? Could something like the Bugaboo Bee Cocoon serve the same purpose?

TooImmature2BMum very exciting, LOL, about your leakage. I haven't passed that milestone yet but am looking forward to it ... I think. :)

Medee · 01/01/2011 20:18

that's a great pile of hand-me-downs, TooImmature. I saw some Baby Dior stuff in a department store once, (wasn't looking with serious intent!) and backed away swiftly!

Several of the carrycots can serve as Moses baskets too, or you can go straight to a cot. We're doing a Moses basket for space really, and cause I would like the pram to be kept for outdoors. I'll use it as a travel cot as long as I can though.

Muser · 01/01/2011 21:44

I have the Bee edeluna. It was recommended to me by a few other Londoners as being the best buggy for getting on/off public transport. It certainly is much lighter than anything else we looked at.

You could have a look on gumtree, ebay and preloved to see if you can get any good secondhand deals.

On Moses basket, we're starting with one for space as well, and because my brother gave one to us. You could use something else though. I think it's good to have something portable though so you can have the baby asleep in whatever room you're in.

I'm jealous of all these people starting maternity leave already! I'm at the front of the list and I don't go until beginning of February! Gave me quite a scare this morning to realise I'm meant to be having a baby next month!

OP posts:
sittinghippo · 01/01/2011 22:43

Eek Muser, that is soon!
If it makes you feel any better, my maternity leave starts 1 week before my due date, so last weekend of Feb is my last day.... oh that seems a long way away! I work from home for the most part so figured I could probably push it as long as possible!!

1Catherine1 · 02/01/2011 00:33

Looks like I'm going to be one of the last to be starting maternity leave. Although due date being the 20th that isn't really surprising I guess. I have 2 and a half months work left with maternity leave starting on 13th March.

Had another midwife appointment on Friday, again all is well which is so lovely to be told. Measuring perfect for my dates again despite comments from others around me who say my bump is small. 29 weeks today so about another 11 weeks to go. Apart from the aches and pains I've suffered with all through pregnancy I seem to be discomfort free (with the exception of an unpleasant pregnancy side effect I would rather not mention Blush seeing doctor on Tuesday). Lets hope I can keep this up for at least another 9 weeks. :)

Really glad everyone had a good Christmas and New Year, we've had a quite one with OH working both days but he's promised me next year will be the three of us, well 3 of us + my family as my dad makes the best Christmas dinner and how often do you get to have 4 generations of a family in the same house?

JoJoB77 · 02/01/2011 05:27

Happy New Year all! Hope you all had lovely relaxing ones. Like Edeluna I didn't see the new year in, was fast asleep by 10:30 Blush. I've got DH's heavy cold though so wasn't really in the party mood.

That's the reason why I'm up so early, I've been awake since 3.30am, headache, blocked nose isn't pleasant at all. I'm hoping this honey & lemon drink I've made will work wonders.

1Catherine1 I'm pretty much last on the list I think and I've got a rough date of end of Feb to finish work but am hoping to finish later than that. I have a commute of 2 hours each way though so will just have to see I think.

We are going for a moses basket for using in our room for the first few months then transfer to cot in own room.

Have a good day all

mixedmamameansbusiness · 02/01/2011 10:48

Morning everyone.

I didnt make it till 12 on NYE but didnt think I would anyway.

Mya and Jessica both lovely names. Feels very real now.

I am 31 weeks tomorrow and have a MW appointment on Tues. Not sure why since my list says that only first timers have 31 weeks so will have to drag DSs there and sit around for ages for not much really - hey ho.

we are not going for moses basket at all this time. Both DSs were out of it by 7-9 weeks and I plan to keep baby with us till about 6 months at least (or until he sleeps through) so he would move into a cot before then anyway so have just decided to go straight for the cot. Afterwards DS1 will move into the spare room and have his room and baby will go in with DS2.

I do however think we are missing out slightly on the advantage of having baby sleeping wherever we are in the flat. But since we live in a flat he will never be far away. Our only big purchase left is a chair for baby one of those rocking type ones that lasts until he is about 3.

TooImmature2BMum · 02/01/2011 15:42

I'm starting with a Moses basket too because my granny pressed hers on me and made it out to be a family heirloom Grin. I've just this minute bought a new mattress for it on Mothercare online, and the next thing will be bedding. It seems to be bigger than most (probably because it was bought for my dad in 1964) so I'm not quite sure what will fit - I had to get a pram mattress in the end and I'm hoping it fits in the basket properly when it arrives. I suppose I'd better wait and see before buying any sheets etc.

What books are you all reading on baby development? I haven't got any yet and have abruptly realised that I know very little about feeding/sleeping/weaning/teething or anything else! Any recommendations gratefully received.

My Christmas holiday is nearly over Sad - back to work on Wednesday. I need to decide how much of my annual leave to take up front. Maternity leave will start on 28 Feb (EDD 3 March; I hope the baby isn't 2 weeks late!) but I have 19 days annual leave to take either before or immediately after mat leave. Part of me is thinking better to hang on at work as long as possible and save the annual leave for afterwards, but part is thinking about not having to get up on cold dark February mornings and fit myself into smartish officewear and put in a full day's work...At the same time, I want some lounging and sleeping time at home before the baby is born, and I would feel sick as a pig if I worked until 38 weeks and then went into labour the next day!

Lozario · 02/01/2011 16:54

Hey all,

Just a quickie from me as an update - if I write too much I'll just depress you all! We've all had swine flu over the last week; my brother brought it with him (unknowingly) on xmas eve and so at least we managed to have xmas day illness-free but came down with it on boxing day. It has been utterly dreadful - DS1 is 18 months and he had the worst temperature; I suffered with the vomiting pretty badly and all in all we have all felt we've been hit by a truck. My mum stayed on to look after us - DS1 and I were eligible for tamiflu but DH couldn't have anything.

Am so cross with my midwife who told me not to bother getting the jab as I wasn't high risk. Never been so ill in my life!!! Going to get the jab for all of us now, every winter for the rest of our lives, no matter how much I have to pay - it was AWFUL.

So basically if any of you were in two minds about getting the jab - GET THE JAB GET THE JAB GET THE JAB.

Am really effing depressed now. :(

me23 · 02/01/2011 17:19

Hope everyone had a good Xmas and new year, sorry to hear about the swine flu lozario how awful. We've just got back from MIL's in Somerset today we had a week there which was lovely. Got lots of unexpected Xmas gifts for bump Smile we have pretty much all we need now apart from bedding and a breastfeedig pillow.
Baby will sleep in the Moses basket at first then the cot though with the breastfeeding we will probably end up co-sleeping sometimes.
I'm 28+4 today mat leave officially starts tomorrow though I've been signed off for months anyway.
Have Mw on the 6th haven't had antenaTal Appt since 15weeks! Us second + timers don't get much attention.
I've been getting quite a few braxton hicks, lots of backache, no leakage of colustrum but didn't get that Ntenatally with dd either.
Xmas eve I was in the hospital as hadn't felt baby move sinc the day before but all was fine had another scan and have enough fluid and he is growing normally.

haloflo · 02/01/2011 17:29

lozario You poor thing, I hope you all feel better soon.

tooimmature I've been leaking a small amount of clear liquid in both boobs since about 22 weeks. Its not that much hassle that I need pads but makes me look rather unsexy in my nightie when am sporting wet patches. You are not the only one with this issue!

I finish on 25 Feb (8 weeks to go!) & am taking 2 weeks annual leave before officially starting ML on 14 March (due 20 March) If I don't take my holiday now I would loose it. I vote take leave now and rest before baby comes!

I also have my ante natal class dates through the post. Start 26 Jan, at about 32 weeks. I have a feeling the next few weeks are going to go very fast!

Muser · 02/01/2011 17:46

How awful lozario, it sounds grim.

Tooimmature: when does your leave year run to? You accrue annual leave while on maternity leave, so you may be entitled to a whole new bunch by the time you come back. My leave year runs April-March so I'll have a full year's entitlement available to me. Very handy!

OP posts:
KPidgeon · 02/01/2011 18:05

Hello everyone. I've been away from internet access for so long I had a lot to catch up on.

Lozario you poor thing. Is everything okay with you and the baby? Can't believe your midwife said that to you. I only got the jab because a friend who is a nurse told me too- was not advised to by my doctor or midwife.

Am 28 weeks today. Feels really good to have hit 28 weeks though my family were pretty astonished by how big my bump is already.

So far no nausea back and I hope I don't get it- my sympathy to those of you who are feeling sick again. Not long now though everyone!

Mum and Dad brought up the cradle that my grandpa made for me when I was born with them when they came up at christmas so we have somewhere to put our little man when he arrives. I love having it in the room next to us already.

Won't write much more now but hello to all and happy new year. Take care everyone. x

TooImmature2BMum · 02/01/2011 18:23

Lots of sympathy to Lozario! What a horrible thing to happen. Hope you feel better soon.

Halo, I'm glad you said that about not needing pads, because I leaked again (both boobs this time) this morning and started to worry about leaking at work and it being visible! Hopefully it won't - it seems to be just a tiny bit and so far only when I'm just waking up. I think it's a good sign for being able to breastfeed, don't you?

Muser, my leave year runs Oct-Sep, and I can also carry forward any annual leave I haven't taken before 30 Sep. At first I thought it had to be taken up front but then HR advised a friend who is also pregnant that it didn't, despite what their official policy says! So I'm looking at returning some time near the end of November with a full year's holiday allowance waiting for me Grin. DH said I could take it all at once and have another month off, but that would mean working straight through to the following October with no holidays, and that sounds like too much slog.

Muser · 02/01/2011 18:35

Definitely too much slog! You'll need that holiday.

OP posts:
Purplefan · 02/01/2011 20:01

Hi all,
Just catching up and would like to wish you all a Happy new year!

Sorry to hear that you've had Swine flu lozario it sounds horrid!! I had my flu jab a couple of days before xmas and after reading your post I am so glad that I did!

Not much to report at mo. Christmas has been lovely, New years eve was very uneventful, just watched a film with DH and then saw the new year in together.

Have next fetal heart scan on Tuesday in Oxford, so fingers crossed for good news! Wink

Speak soon x

haloflo · 02/01/2011 20:17

tooimmature I hope it is a good sign about bf too. Btw I mostly wear tshirt bras & it doesn't soak through them but I guess it might through a thin bra though. Mine happens first thing, last thing and just after a shower!

kpigeon I feel my bump is massive at 29 weeks too but am only measuring a week ahead. I can't believe it will get any bigger.

I am very uncomfortable tonight after my tea. Back hurts and cannot sit comfortably.Angry What I can I do to help this? I know I should have eaten less but I love fajitas!

Muser · 02/01/2011 20:53

Go and lay on your left side haloflo, take the pressure off.
