me23 · 01/12/2010 20:18

yes it is the one in earlsfield kpidgeon it's just down the hill from us, we've bought some toys from there from dd before, I'm sure we'll be buying lots more from there.

jammiedodger2 · 02/12/2010 07:53

hiya,
Just a quikie drop in, ella if you are on a low income you may also be eligible for a sure start maternity grant, they are a bit stingy with who gets them but it might be worth checking it out with your MW.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 02/12/2010 11:13

Spilt thank you do much for coming back to update us. You still sound so strong and I hope having some answers helps. Best wishes for getting the all clear from toxoplasmosis and ttc. All thoughts with you and prayers for little Bobby.

I'm just fasting for my mini GTT - standard in my hospital - fingers crossed I get the all clear. Lucozade is truly disgusting - can't believe anyone buys it for non-medical reasons! Thank goodness I'm in London though - am meant to be heading to the Somerset tonight / tomorrow but village is snowed in so not looking likely.

How come I'd normally not notice not eating or drinking for two hours but now I know I can't I'm really thirsty and obsessed with the idea of food?!?

rfata · 02/12/2010 11:45

Looks like I am very late to this chat but only now have the time after finishing up at work- yeh! I am 27+2. Am due on 1 March 2011 with twins- so they will most likely come earlier. I have had a pregnancy plagued with bad symptoms but am still trucking along. Fingers crossed the 3 of us make it to the finish line ok.

edeluna · 02/12/2010 13:21

I've got a crazy schedule these days and am still dealing with a house move, so I haven't been able to check into the group very often, but I hope everyone's doing well.

I can't believe it's already December and I have just another 3.5 months or so to go. I don't remember if I mentioned it when I had my 20-week scan, but we are having a girl! Have barely started the name hunt, although DH and I have a list going. Just haven't had time to really delve in. Has anyone already decided on a name? Or have yet to start thinking about it?

Also, are there any vegetarians here struggling with low iron levels? I've been vegetarian for twenty years and am usually borderline anaemic when I have my blood tested. Now that I'm pg, I'm officially anaemic and have been taking ferrous sulphate since mid-October. Had another blood test last week and my levels are still too low. I eat a very healthy diet (tonnes of pulses, leafy greens, beetroot, etc) and am keeping away from all the things that can inhibit iron absorption, but nothing seems to be helping. I've started wondering if I may need to introduce a small amount of meat into my diet for the rest of my pg. It would be a huge change, but I feel like I'm doing everything else that I can and it's not working. So I'd love to hear from other vegetarians who have had the same problem and made a decision whether or not to start eating meat.

I know this can be a hot topic, so let me just add that I'm not looking for a philosophical debate on the good vs evil of meat eating. As I said, I've been veggie for twenty years. Back then, I may have waved a PETA flyer in your face, but I now believe it is possible to have meat in one's diet in a way that is mindful, ethical and humane ... it's just not something I've personally wanted to do. So I'm not looking to debate, just looking for others who've faced the same dilemma. Thanks.

me23 · 02/12/2010 14:33

nowpaincandfreakout I love lucozade the original flavour, I know I am a weirdo Bear

edeluna I am veggie and have been since I was 12 I also am either borderline or anaemic, however the iron should be upping your levels the same way meat was so I don't think that would actually make much difference, I'm wondering because the iron levels aren't coming up whether your anaemia isn't iron related? I would be asking them to check your b12 levels in case a deficiency is the cause of the anaemia, esp as veggies also tend to be low in b12 (I am).

KPidgeon · 02/12/2010 14:45

edeluna I was veggie- though only for two years- and based on environmental reasons rather than anti-meat eating generally. So I'm probably not as vehemently veggie as you have been but when I found out I was pregnant I did start eating meat again. I don't eat a lot and only organic "happy" meat (though that probably doesn't hold much water with a lot of vegeterians) and will go back to veggie when I've stopped BF or before if I can.

Have you tried black-strap molasses? If I was a bit rundown pre-pregnancy and near my period I'd have a couple of spoonfuls. It tastes pretty gross but is packed full of iron-- if you don't want to go down the meat route. You can bake with blakstrap molasses if you can't face a raw spoonful of the stuff.

rfata welcome- twins, wow! And if they come on 1st March St. David's day is a good day! (I'm Welsh!)

1Catherine1 · 02/12/2010 15:04

Welcome rfata, twins, so exciting. First pregnancy?

Anyone know if its safe to down 4 Rennies in one go? The 2 that is recommended doesn't do a thing for my indigestion. The 4 usually just about does the trick.

Honeymoonmummy · 02/12/2010 15:26

Hi Edeluna, I was veggie for approx 20 years then started eating fish during PG1, not for iron but because I'm an unhealthy eater and I wanted to give the baby some brain food! I went anaemic after DD1 was born, so started eating chicken too. I was always a staunch veggie for moral rather than flavour reasons but I was amazed how quickly I got over my guilt Blush. I doubt I'll ever go to red meat but I won't go back to being veggie now. Hope this helps x There is some non- constipating liquid iron supplement stuff you can get from health food shop, can't remember name, don't know if that's what you're already on?

Lauzifer · 02/12/2010 15:37

Hello all

I'm new to this and can see i've missed alot already. I'm due to have a girl on the 7th of March. This is my first pregnancy and it's been wonderful so far (apart from a little morning sickness and constant heartburn)

ckny1 · 02/12/2010 15:47

Hi everyone!

I'm also new to this, first pg with a boy, and am due 11th of March. All very exciting, though can't believe I went my first 5 months w/o MN! Glad to finally have been enlightened! :)

Congratulations to all!

edeluna · 02/12/2010 15:49

KPidgeon Haven't tried black-strap molasses. Maybe I'll look into that.

me23 My B12 was fine last time it was checked. I need to look into other possible causes of anaemia. I'm not sure if iron from food sources is absorbed differently from iron from supplement sources, but I'd definitely prefer to stay veggie if I can.

Honeymoonmummy I spoke with a MW earlier and she recommended spatone, which is an liquid iron supplement. It seems to help a lot of people, so I'll make that my next attempt at sorting this out.

Thanks, everyone!

Kagey · 02/12/2010 16:50

I second spatone!! A midwife recommended during my first pregnancy and it helped keep me topped up and free from iron tablets! However I used to drink it in orange juice and now cannot bear OJ through forced drinking everyday.

Spilt thank you for letting us know. I really feel for you and your family and hope the next 6-months fly by and you are back on the antenatal boards soon again.

Me and DD have been pretty much housebound by the pesky snow for a couple of days and it is driving me crazy :( I did venture out 150 metres down the road to my uncles for adult conversation and it did help with the tedium. We have about a foot of snow and it's snowing still. DH had to stay by his work on Tuesday night, but was home last night. I am waiting to hear whether he will be back home tonight or staying in the City another night.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 02/12/2010 18:40

Welcome all newcomers - and the thread's first twins!

Had a bit of a fright today. Went for GTT and they took heartbeat and fundal at the same time. Cervix measured too small (23.5cm at 26 weeks 5 days) so got sent for a scan... Scan made cervix 26.3 and baby is in 45th centile so am feeling very relieved (if a bit confused).

God it's cold - hope everyone is managing to keep warm.

Xx

Honeymoonmummy · 02/12/2010 22:45

Spatone- that's the one! Smile

Welcome to the newcomers!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 03/12/2010 11:26

I took spatone last preg too... although I remember the MW saying that I had to take loads to be equivalent to one of those awful iron tablets that gives you green poo. The orange juice help you absorb I think.

I think I am developing bad circulation in my thighs and upper legs. Every night I wake up in pain because the leg on the side I am lying on really hurts and I have to trun over, i sleep for a bit and then the same happens to the other leg. I think my next MW appointment is going to be a long one.

Havent managed to get an appointment at the docs for the itching as when I call at 8.30 to get a same day appointment by the time I get answered at 8.47 all the appointments are gone Angry any appointment they can give is around the time of MW appointment anyway.

pettyprudence · 03/12/2010 12:44

is any one else finding the cold er... physically painful? My nipples hurt so much in the mornings i want to cry! I think some nice snow would make up for it but in here in Cardiff there's not a lot going on :(

I think baby is hiding from the cold too as my bump seems smaller today so i think they have moved inwards to try and keep warm :)

1Catherine1 · 03/12/2010 14:25

aww Petty.. I understand your feelings... you need to invest in some really good pyjamas and lots of them. Actually - when this snow clears up I might venture out to get myself some more, you can never have too many especially since when baby comes apparently it is considered acceptable not to get dressed all day!! I'll need some pyjamas that aren't falling apart for that! Grin I also have a terrible habit of warming up my clothes on the radiator before getting dressed (especially my bra) so that I get out of my warm pyjamas into my warm clothes.

I've scrolled through the last 5 pages or so to update the list with the newcomers... if I missed you I'm sorry just add yourself on it - nothing personal honest Blush There was a lot of names to add, I just figured it would look less spam like if I did everyone's (or tried to).

Thanks, catherine for adding me (and the other newbies).

I just ventured out into the snow and started my car for the first time in about 10 days - started first time - excellent (though have no plans to actually drive anywhere!!).

Had my flu jab on Wednesday after strong, clear recommendations from midwife and consultant. Anyone else had theirs? I've had a slight bit of itching/rash right by where the jab went in, but the nurse says that's entirely normal - and the little one still seems to be squirming away, which is always reassuring Smile

I bought a big cosy new dressing gown in preparation for Xmas lazing around and for when the baby comes, but I think I need some new PJs too, and maybe some cosier slippers as well! There's not going to be any money to spend on the baby!!

Hope everyone's surviving the weather...

spaceal · 03/12/2010 15:25

Ooh, didn't realise we had festive smileys Xmas Smile

superpenguin · 03/12/2010 16:19

Hi everyone,
spilt thanks for your update, it's nice to know that Bobbie was a little girl and good that you now have a reason. I wish you all the best for future ttc.

edeluna i've also been veggie for 20 years, no idea what my iron levels are like though but apparently they are going to test them at 28 weeks so we'll see.

I am not enjoying this wintery weather at all! Although where I am we haven't had much snow at all, it's still freezing cold with a thin layer of snow and ice and I still have to drive to work every day :( although luckily my route goes on main roads which are pretty much fine.

On a totally non-pregnancy-related note, we are getting freesat installed tomorrow :) - very excited as only had about 6 channels for the last 18 months due to very poor freeview coverage in our area.

Larty74 · 03/12/2010 16:20

I had my flu jab about a week or so ago and had just a bit of a sore arm for the day but thats it and plenty of movement from bubs after as well.

Also been thinking lots about new pajamas/loungewear for after arrival but hard to know what to get as I have no idea what size I'll end up being at that point!

However mostly been thinking about the fact that I have exactly one more week of school left and I'm done. I know I've whinged about this before, but bending over so much (as everything is miniature size), is really getting cumbersome now to the point where I'm sore under my bump at the end of the day and I feel so bad for the little guy! Sad He always reassures me at night when crashed out in front of telly - which I am very much looking forward to tonight.

What's everyone up to this weekend??? I think we are painting the nursery.

Welcome all the newcomers! Xmas Grin

Medee · 03/12/2010 16:24

I had my flu jag several weeks ago, and no reactions to it at all.

1Catherine1 · 03/12/2010 17:51

I had my flu jab a few weeks back too and only ended up with a slightly warm red bump where the injection had been that went away in about 48 hours.

SuperP I think you'd know if there was a problem with your iron levels. I'm not a veggie but have had problems with my iron levels when I was a teenager and I knew because I felt rubbish for ages and then I was told what it was that was causing it. Either that or it coincidently disappeared after I started taking iron tablets.

Larty I am so jealous you are finishing next week, I've still got a whole 3 months + to go... although when I work it out in school weeks its much nicer, 11 school weeks left and we all know that the week before Christmas includes very little teaching Xmas Smile. As for sizes for your PJs, I tend to always buy 'jamas one size too big anyway for comfort when sleeping. I'm usually a size 14 but will buy a size 16. I got a lovely thermal wrap top from Tescos about 2 months ago which is proving great at the moment as it allows extra room for my growing bump although doesn't cover the bottom of my bump too well. I do have some short nighties that I wear with 'jama bottoms to keep my bump warm though if I'm not wearing my big wooly dressing gown. In all honesty I think my nightwear wardrobe is probably bigger than my day-to-day wear wardrobe, I wonder if that is a bad thing...

me23 · 03/12/2010 18:00

Remember we also have 1 other set of twins on the board superpenguins.

We haven't heard from lots of the people on the stats list in months I wonder if they still come on here?

my urine sample came back clear for a uti so no idea why I had 3 plus of protein just one of those things I suppose.

went to mothercare and bought some more cute clothes for baby Xmas Smile

we need to buy the car seat and base, halfords have got a good deal on at the moment so we are going to buy them soon before the VAT increase.
