hi everyone just been thinking how well more of a question for mums who have 2 or more children ive got ds 14 years and dd will be 2 when baby comes starting to worry about if i will be able to cope with a new born, toddler and teenager as dh only gets two weeks of then we on our own..... but on the other hand cant wait to meet and be with my little man and sure dd will love to mother him
ahhhh the things i worry about having to much time on my hand lol ..

TooImmature2BMum · 29/11/2010 18:13

I have bought nothing yet, but people keep offering me things! Grin Have Moses basket from Granny, cot from PIL, Baby Bjorn sling, car seat and baby bath from SIL, clothes from SIL and colleague, and Mum offered to buy me a pram of my choice becase she doesn't believe I will be able to carry baby in a sling for very long as it will get too heavy Hmm. Had to dissuade DH from buying bear snowsuit thing in Tesco yesterday - was very cute, but don't think the baby will need it in March! Hope not, anyway. Also, my baby sister is only 3.5 so I imagine my stepmother has heaps of baby clothes still which I will get at some point.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 29/11/2010 19:08

bluebeach so far I have one bib... Dh bought it when we were on holiday and had it (cheaply!) embroidered with our nickame for LO - so sweet! I am also relying on a lot of handmedowns - cot and crib from mum (they were mine originally and have been used by two siblings who have 7 children between them so now well worn in!), my brother is giving me a sheepskin, sister baby clothes, most of maternity wear is from SIL or BF... Am going to use disposible nappies, which I'll get nearer the time as don't have space to store them (am moving in Feb, oh joy!).

Am totally confused about buggies but think we'll end up with two as well as DH wants a proper all terrain and I want one to throw in and out of car / light and easy fold.

There are way too many things to think of that we might need but am hoping to keep to a minimum. Had a total panic about two weeks ago and am now feeling far too relaxed! Baby will end up in a bib and swaddled in a pashmina at this rate!

niamh29 · 29/11/2010 20:00

Emma: I am on baby no 3, DD1 is 4, and DD2 will be 18 months when no 3 comes along. I'm also worried about how my toddler will get on with the new baby, I know DD1 will be fine, she adores her kittle sister and if we can only give her a brother she will be just delighted, she also loves babies so she's really looking forward to the new arrival. My toddler is really active and can be quite demanding so it'll be a big change for her and I'm worried about having to watch her constantly to make sure she isn't putting something up his nose or trying to feed him a biscuit or something.
I guess we'll have to just do our best and hope that the new arrival slots into the family and that the transition is as easy as possible!

Sorry, no answers, just told you all my worries!

EvianBaby · 29/11/2010 21:12

Hi all

Popped by to say hi. Good to catch up on all of your news Smile

I haven't done the toilet roll test but will do as soon as I can be bothered to get up and go to the toilet!

I haven't bought anything for this baby, apart from one all in one outfit. I am hoping to use a lot of the neutral newborn clothes we had for DS - I really need to get them out of the attic at some point to wash and check them. I can't remember what we have or what state they are in... We might need to replace the vests at the very least!

Still not made a decision on which double pushchair to buy... will be gutted to have to sell the Bugaboo.

We have heaps of snow here, the novelty has died off for me now but DS (aged 2) is still excited. My sister (39 weeks pregnant) and I took the children sledging yesterday... I think she hoped it would encourage her baby to make an appearance but no news yet! I'm sure her husband is pleased though as I'm not sure he fancies digging the car out of the snow with his wife in labour! She has her babies very quickly Wink

Hope everyone is managing in the snow. Must remember to wrap myself in toilet roll and update soon! Bye for now x

Jupiter118 · 29/11/2010 23:12

No prep here on baby front - can'face sorting through clothes etc - though will have to do it at some point. DS is still in the cot bed as a bed, probably ought to do something about that and look for a new one... giguring still 13 weeks til 37 weeks when I feel by when I should be a bit more prepared.

Too immature - the lunch is tomorrow - it is now snowing in southeast and forecast here (midlands) - will have to decide in the morning. Gaaaa - would like to go as never go to good jollies - tis in posh hotel in London, women's 'networking lunch' and guest speaker is Justine Roberts. If I do go imagine my wellies will look good with the smarter end of my mat wardrobe!!!

Careful in the snow/ice ladies x

Larty74 · 30/11/2010 08:09

Blast! Not quite enough snow to cancel school Sad

ella24 · 30/11/2010 08:52

does any one know what grant we get and when the cut of date is for them b4 they all end
due to having a bad flood all my first babsy stuff has been classed as a right off even all his my frist stuff Sad

and deu to xmas and paying off uni fee and now fixing the house not a great deal of money around

1Catherine1 · 30/11/2010 09:14

Larty I know exactly how you feel Sad

Maybe tomorrow....

Ella that sounds terrible. The only thing I think we're entitled to is the health in pregnancy grant which us lot should all get. You are entitled to is as long as you are 25 weeks before the 1st January. You should get the application form at your 25 week midwife appointment but if you don't have an appointment until 28 weeks you can phone the midwife and ask for it to be left at reception of your GP surgery.

Haven't read most of the posts - too tired and busy, will catch up later.. much do some planning in this PPA today.

ella24 · 30/11/2010 09:25

thank you thats a big help yea it really upset me as i found out we was having anouther boy and wanted to dress him in some of my son old cos to see how much they look a like and they clothes r soooo cute

spilttheteaagain · 30/11/2010 10:48

Hi girls,

Catherine sorry your cat has been so poorly. I've been there, it's a horrible time and I really hope your puss is feeling better.

Congratulations to Strangeways and Muser and the rest of you finally embarking on the last trimester.

We saw the consultant last week and the most important news is this:
We have a daughter.

I took some pink flowers up to her grave yesterday to let her know I knew Smile

The various tests done showed that there was nothing wrong with her at all (all genetics were normal). Likewise my placenta was just as it should be and I have no blood clotting issues or other such problems. In that sense, good news for the future.

It looks like the most likely reason for Bobbie's death though was toxoplasmosis. Apparently my body was up in arms fighting it off and producing stacks of antibodies. She didn't stand a chance. The other possible contributor (though unlikely to be the cause) is that I have a slightly underactive thyroid which is now being investigated. This wouldn't have helped matters but probably wasn't the problem.

As I'm sure you all know, toxoplasmosis is due to the toxoplasma parasite found in infected meat. Usally caught by eating/contact with rare/raw meat or contact with cat poo after they eat infected rodents (litter trays, gardening, eating garden veg - soil contamination).

I'm utterly shocked at how unlucky we have been. I have lived with cats for 17 years and just assumed I would be immune by now (1 exposure should give lifetime immunity). I haven't been reckless either. No litter trays, gloves when gardening. Only a couple of medium rare steaks/venison in the entire time. Obviously that wasn't careful enough.

It's put the anchors on ttc as well for now. We have to wait 6 months from the birth for the original infection to go away and my body to develop long term antibodies (blood test needed to check this later). This means I have to endure the Feb/Mar due time without even being able to ttc. I had really hoped I might be pregnant again then as it would make the time easier to get through - new hope and all that. But no Sad

And I ovulated 2 days ago and had to keep my pants on Angry!

1Catherine1 · 30/11/2010 11:20

At least knowing why must be reassuring. I would be equally as shocked to find Toxoplasmosis as the cause if I were you. I like you assumed immunity, I have had cats all my life and I was never a clean child, my midwife still refused to test me for it thinking it was unnecessary. At least you know after the 6 months have passed you are completely immune so this can't happen to you again. I think you should focus on the positives and use this to help you get through Feb/March.

Thank you for your concern of my cat, she is having another operation today to repair the damage caused by the infection of the previous one. My vets are looking after her and I know she is in good hands, her temperature is now normal after a week and they're confident she is going to make a full recovery soon.

Muser · 30/11/2010 11:31

Oh spilt, your poor little girl. While having a reason must be some kind of reassurance, it is such an unexpected one. I wish there was something we could do to make it better. You ought to be there at the top of the list leading us on. It's so unfair.

OP posts:
Medee · 30/11/2010 12:18

Spilt thanks for coming in to update us, and I'm so glad you know now that Bobbie was a girl. I'm stunned at the diagnosis - although I read about it in the books, and have been really careful when gardening etc (and don't have cats), it's still a surprise to hear that it is a real risk. It really goes to show you that a lot of this health advice is not misplaced scaremongering but a real danger to mothers and babies. Wishing you lots of strength through the next few months, especially around your due date.

Muser · 30/11/2010 12:22

It does make you pause. I am very careful around our cats, we don't have a litter tray anyway. Someone on one of my other threads around here was very ill with salmonella from soft scoop icecream as well. You do think it's just overprotectiveness, but there is a real risk behind the advice, even if it's a small one.

spilttheteaagain · 30/11/2010 12:29

I know. Look after yourselves. My prescription for you all for the next 3-4 months:

Cotton wool and bubble wrap

jeffily · 30/11/2010 12:56

spilt I am so pleased that you have some answers at last, and that you know that your Bobbie was a little girl. You sound wonderfully strong and like you are doing really well.
I can totally understand why having to wait to ttc again must feel rotten. We waited after losing our Ivy for 9 months, and got past the due date. Nearly four years down the line now, and although I still have a slight twinge around early Dec, the date I really remember her on is her actual birthday- which we always try to mark. We have climbed a mountain, swum around a lake and planted a flower bed so far. Thinking of you lots still. xxx

Hi to everyone else! Not much time or energy to post at the mo am feeling rather immobile and not sleeping well, which is making me grumpy. Dsis birthday today- we're having a tea party for her later and DD is ill and grumpy. Off to make tangerine jelly now.

Larty74 · 30/11/2010 13:46

spilt thank you so much for sharing with us again. Stay positive, be patient and it sounds like in time everything will be as it should. bless you both and your baby girl. Bear

KPidgeon · 30/11/2010 14:03

Split gosh- a little girl. Very lovely for you to know that and I'm so sorry for the cause behind it. As muser said makes you stop and think for sure. I had oysters in the first trimester without thinking and also had a soft scoop whippy ice-cream- not even knowing the warnings on them.

Wishing you all the best for the future. And come Springtime next year finger's crossed for an easy conception and healthy pregnancy for you (sounds like nothing should stop that).

Hello to everyone else- am back from a very relaxing weekend with my parents in Wales. They cooked for us all weekend, which was lovely. Went for a couple of (brisk!) walks and had two henchman either side of me to stop me falling at all times- as it was so slippy and snowy there. Beautiful though.

Am feeling huge. Did the toilet roll test- amd 23.5 weeks and 8 sheets of toilet paper. Sounds big to me! I was thin before this!

Think I will leave work early today- snowing again here in South Kensington and don't want to risk falling over on my walk back to the tube.

Hope you're all doing well

K

StrangewaysHereICome · 30/11/2010 17:47

Spilt I don't know what to say, it's just so unlucky and so unfair for you to have lost your daughter in this way. You sound so strong. I am sorry you have to delay ttc again as it must be so frustrating. At least you know that there should be nothing to stop you having a healthy pregnancy soon. Hugs to you xx

As for me, I am still miserable I'm afraid. I have a chest infection and finally I am on antibiotics. But the breathlessness and feeling so rough still is making everything a bit tough at the moment especially in this weather. If I walk too far I feel quite wobbly, so I am trying to rest which is easier said than done. Hopefully the antibiotics will sort me out soon.

I saw my youngest at the nativity today which wsa lovely, she even had a line to say and suffice to say I needed the tissues! We have had a bit of snow but thankfully the schools are still open, but more is on the way ...

Keep warm everyone Smile

spilttheteaagain · 30/11/2010 21:09

Thank you all for your kind words. Jeffily it's lovely that you've done all those things to remember your little daughter.

Best wishes for the next weeks for you all xx

1Catherine1 · 01/12/2010 07:34

Morning all.

Well after it snowing all night, and after the conditions were already dreadful on the way home from school the school is still open today. I don't know what to do, I feel obliged to go in but I'm genuinely scared of the journey there. My little car doesn't cope with the snow well. :( 42 schools in Surrey and Hampshire closed so far but mine isn't one of them.

Split it is lovely to hear from you, I'm so sorry about the toxoplasmosis it is so rare these days, and especially because you have had cats for years you would have thought you would be immune.
I'm glad you have found out the sex.
I know it will be hard waiting to conceive but at least you know once you have the all clear there is nothing to prevent you from having a healthy baby.

I succumbed to the toilet roll test and at 24 weeks today I measured 9 sheets.

I saw the nurse yesterday as I have moved gp's and had to have a new patient check, she checked my urine and I had +++protein! cue me thinking oh shit early onset pre-eclampsia but my bp was fine so I probably have another UTI she has sent it off rsults on friday, I had no symptoms exacept needing the loo all the time which I've had all the way through this pregnancy.

larty thanks for the pointer about the nct nearly new sales I will try to see if they is one near me, there is a good charity shop purely for kids stuff near me and you get very good stuff in there (am in nappy valley here) so have been popping in there from time to time.

catherine hope your kitty makes a speedy recovery, my black cat is being so naughty at the moment bullying the other 2 and constantly moaning for food (he's on a diet)

KPidgeon · 01/12/2010 13:49

me23 is that Fara in Earlsfield? If you're near there (I remember you're at St. Georges too I think) and it's a different one Fara is definitely worth a look- we've bought lots of boys little clothes up to 18 months already as they are so cheap and barely worn.
