My toilet roll test is 8 sheets and I'm only 22 + 4 - thought I looked like Mr. Greedy -now its been confirmed Blush! Good to catch up on all your news - no snow here in mid Cornwall as yet - bit icy yesterday on the pavements and I was like Bambi walking my DS into school! Welcome to all the newcomers. Hope you all have a fab weekend x

me23 · 26/11/2010 22:26

I think the toilet roll test is silly really as not everyone is the same size pre-natally eg I as a size 16-18 would be sheets ahead of a 6-8 sizer even if I wasn't pregnant! Blush

dd is going to her first sleepover at her friends house tomorrow (she's 5) so me and dp have booked a table at our fave greek restaurant yum I can't wait!

I wonder if anyone has head any good things about particular baby swings? I've heard great things about them in general (i.e they realy help soothe baby, but haven't heard anything about which is better.)

Muser · 27/11/2010 11:05

Of course the toilet roll test is silly! We're wrapping bog roll round our bellies!

Larty74 · 27/11/2010 11:12

me23 I just picked up a lovely little swing at an NCT Nearly New Sale for £4. This is the second sale I've been to and they are absolute gems for picking up stuff like that especially when you don't know if baby will even like it or love it. This one was hardly used. If I get jipped and it breaks, oh well, I'm out 4 quid! Also one of those Bumbo chairs for £5. Am so pleased.

MJM86 · 27/11/2010 11:23

Morning ladies, you all made me chuckle. Can just imagine everyone trying to measure their bumps with toilet roll. I have tried it and it aint easy haha.
In the end I gave up with the toilet roll and got hubby to use tape measure from my antenatal notes. I was about 22+5 weeks and the tape measure didn't even meet and hubby of course thought this was hilarious. tape measure only goes to 39" and it was at least 2" short haha

Hi PipPipPip :) Pregnancy hasn't been too bad. Was sick alot until about 16weeks but was nightshift and this didn't help. Feeling much better and can't really complain as I know some ladies have a horrid time. Mentally I'm usually ok but last few weeks been a test so to speak but its all stemmed from work, so I'll be glad to be on mat leave :)

Hope everyone is taking care with this weather :)

Oceanbreeze · 27/11/2010 20:29

Larty fab bargains Smile We braved the cold to look at buggies today - and now we're really impressed with Babystyle Oyster. Must stop changing my mind!

Jenchandler definitely a mushy brain here - keep forgetting the right words for things, and keep having to describe a word until someone gets it from description & context - so frustrating, feel like such a bimbo. No memory either.

Oh, and 9 sheets of Sainsburys here - OH is amused Grin

Welcome to all newcomers - never too late to join I reckon.

Muser · 28/11/2010 10:09

Morning all. Well, it's official. I have entered the last trimester. Where has the time gone?

OP posts:
haloflo · 28/11/2010 10:16

oceanbreeze I also like the look of the babystyle oyster and am torn between that and the icandy cherry. The babystyle is winning at the moment as its cheaper, folds with the seat unit in and the carrycot is slightly lighter.

Let me know if you get it! The lady at the shop said she was currently taking orders to arrive January/February so I am going to have to decide soon.

I am 9 sheets too, at 24 weeks.

muser Wow, third trimester. Let the countdown begin. I feel still like thats a age away!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/11/2010 11:11

Just conducted my toilet roll test.... 9 sheets of cheap stuff here, 26 weeks tomorrow. Very pleased that I am broadly in line with everyone.

I seem to feel some kicks quite far down as if baby is going to put a foot through my bum or something. There are also some very large movements when I get up too quickly in the middle. I have no idea at all how the baby is lying.

I think that because the baby is on the left doesnt mean movement on the right as they are not always kicking with a leg, somtimes I feel that baby is turning over or maybe headbutting or punching so could be anywhere I guess.

1Catherine1 · 28/11/2010 14:23

Afternoon all. Last night after the OH came in from work (at 1am) we decided to sit up and watch Sweeny Todd: The Demon Butcher of Fleet Street, I didn't realize until I started watching it that it was a musical I had recorded it knowing only that it had Jonny Depp in it :) but LO seemed to love some of the singing. She got really quite fidgety during some parts, it was the first time I've noticed her movements change due to external sounds - either that or it was a big coincidence. Hmm

24 weeks today and it is all going so fast. I gave into peer pressure Wink and had a go at the toilet roll test too and 8 and 3/4 sheets before breakfast.

Been looking at prams and buggies and wondering if anyone is intending on buying more than one? I have a trip to Spain planned in June (LO 3months) so I need a really light weight one I can take on a plan so I thought that the Quinny Zapp used with my carseat would be nice and light. I was wondering if using the car seat instead of a carrycot for 6 months was not the done thing though and maybe I missed that memo. Confused I also think my OH wants to buy a "proper" one like the O'Baby Zezu. Unfortunately I don't think it is practical since I go everywhere by car and it would mean LO is woken up every time I get in and out of the car to move from carseat to pram or back again. I don't know, decisions decisions!

Larty74 · 28/11/2010 16:49

1Catherine1 - What I've learnt from the various pram shop "experts" is that the crucial period when a newborn should ideally be in the lie flat position is in the first 2-3 months. OR not in a carseat for more than 2 hours. Basically it all depends on your lifestyle i.e. if you take super long car journeys and then end up going straight into the travel system for another 2 hours, then a carrycot is recommended. Or if you see yourself pushing baby around for longer than 2 hours, etc. A newborn baby will need to feed that often anyway so will probably never be in longer than that 2-3 hr period. Also, most people say they grow out of the carrycots far before the 6 month age they say they are suitable for as well. I guess all in all it depends on budget, space you want to take up,and lifestyle.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/11/2010 16:53

Arrghhh has anyone else been itching. I have an awful compulsion to itch my thighs, behind my knees and all the way to my bum cheeks. It gets worse when I get in the bath, the water makes me itch until my skin is RED raw. DH mentioned maybe bed bugs but surey then everyone would be effected and not just me which is what makes me think it is pregnancy related. It only effects these parts though no other parts of my body.

StrangewaysHereICome · 28/11/2010 16:53

Third trimester here too - eeek! How strange to think the home straight is here!

I am in a bit of a quandary - I am due my flu jab tomorrow, at last, but I am still really full of cold and feel worse if anything. I have a hacking cough too so I am thinking I might postpone it although I do really want it. Maybe I will just see what the nurse thinks - the appt is first thing. Then later I am seeing the mw and hope to get lots of sympathy off her Wink.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/11/2010 16:56

By the way have just spent the whol afternoon watching birth programmes on Home and Health.... all the women seem to have their mum and hubby/partner with them.

Is anyone planning on this? I dont mind either being there but feel odd about both together for some reason. In our case it will just be DH as it has been with DS1 and DS2.

anyone with other DC decided what they will do with them if labour comes on at an odd time? I dont want DS1 to miss school if we can help it (although I know it isnt the end of the world) but my mum works and is about 1 hour drive away...but she is my preference to be with the kids, really dont want to rely on DH family if Ican avoid it.

Larty74 · 28/11/2010 17:11

I LOVE Home and Health Channel! Grin

1Catherine1 · 28/11/2010 17:18

Mixed I was doing some reading the other day (I do far too much reading) and read that mild itching from time to time is normal in pregnancy but if it is a constant itch that gets worse you should tell your doctor so they can rule out Pre-Eclampsia. Although this is supposed to be a condition that emerges in your third trimester it can happen earlier so if I were you and it gets worse I would phone my doctor as a simple blood test can rule it out.

As far as the mum and partner there that's a no at my hospital anyway, you are allowed only one person with you. That will be hopefully my OH but if he chickens out I intend to ask my mum.

Thanks for that info Larty, I really didn't understand why I needed both but I guess I do. The OH will be happy since he really wants a proper one. :)

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/11/2010 17:28

Thanks Catherine. Just googled the symtoms and i dont seem to have any obviou ones although blood pressure and protein in urine arent things i would notice so will take mysef off to the doctors i think.

me23 · 28/11/2010 20:48

it isn't pre-eclampsia that cause itching it is obstetric cholestasis a liver condition which is cause by a build up of bile acids and causes extreme itching with no rash usually on hands and the feet, it usually occurs in the 3rd trimester.
www.ocsupport.org.uk/about.html
mixed mama I would call mw tomorrow and explain your symptoms they may want to do lft's and bile acid blood tests to rule out OC. Itching is common in pregnancy though i'VE had very bad itching on my legs very annoying.

PipPipPip · 28/11/2010 22:16

Hi ladies, hope you've all had a good weekend and have stayed warm.

Went on a lovely country hike with friends yesterday - flasks of tea etc - followed by a night at the pub for my partner's birthday.

Went to visit my friend J's new baby today. It was a bit odd, as I didn't bond with it at all! Her baby seemed to be a big, scowling lump!! I was thinking 'oh dear, I should be gushing and kissing its head but I really don't want to' Blush

I feel different about my friend F's baby who I adore, and would snuggle with for hours given the chance.

So I was wondering if "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" or if babies really do have such different personalities. I felt a bit guilty thinking this while holding J's baby!! Blush

So ladies, how do you feel around other babies at the moment?

Jupiter118 · 28/11/2010 22:18

Hello all,

Not been about for a while - busy had some hols - took DS to Paris to see friends on eurostar - fun but exhausting - also stayed with my parents which was nice.

Thread is v v busy - very chatty - will have to read back to catch up.

Lots of movement here - tho quite low and sometimes seems to prod in painful places - ouch.

Loo roll test - enlighten me please?

Quinny Zapp - saw a friend yesterday who has the new quinny zapp xtra which is suitable from birth but still very lightweight. V jealous - could be v tempting.

Very much hoping no snow in early part of week as supposed to be going to a posh lunch on Tues in London - decent jolly the kind that don't come along v often so would be disappointed if snow spoiled it. Tis freeeeeezing - new look coat no v warm, but fortunately ski jacket still just about does up (probably not for long though)

Hope all are well (waves to everyone old and new).

Jxx

jammiedodger2 · 29/11/2010 09:35

Hi Ladies
Just a quickie post as dm is here for the week. In 'tired' mode so think i will be kept busy!
Also have some itching under bump but think that is just where my skin is stretching!
8.5 sheets of loo paper at 23 +6. am happy with that as at 5ft 1'' my insides don't have much room to go so everything seems to be straight out the front!Don't look pregnant from the back yet, keep experiencing peoples shocked expressions when I turn round.
Catherine if you are looking at buying a buggy for your trip I would go for cheap and cheerful as poss. Buggies tend to get thrown around a bit on their way too and from the hold in my experience. Obviously as baby is still quite wee a £20 one isn't going to cut it but perhaps look around in the sales?
Keep warm and be careful in the ice
jx

mixedmamameansbusiness · 29/11/2010 13:13

Thanks ladies. Theitching is only my legs, thighs etc and definitely no where else. Tried to get an appointment at docs to no avail so will give the MW a call as not seeing her till 14 Dec.

TooImmature2BMum · 29/11/2010 15:18

Good luck mixedmama!

Has anyone else suddenly started having difficulty sleeping? I've taken to waking up in the middle of the night and being totally unable to get back to sleep for ages. I'm not usually physically uncomfortable and even though I sometimes need to pee, that didn't affect me before - I would get up, pee, get back in bed and fall straight back to sleep. It's just been this last week.

Jupiter, did you make it to your lunch? I'm snowed in here (Midlothian) and starting to hope might be snowed in tomorrow too.

bluebeach · 29/11/2010 17:04

9 loo roll sheets here at 26+3, and I have already put on 2 stone!!! I read that was the amount you should put on over all.....I still think I'm a size 8 and even tried on some of my old dresses thinking as they were floaty over the bump I would be fine. I forget that everywhere has got bigger, bum, legs, arms, boobs... and got stuck mid dress over head arms flailing. I think I have got stupid as well as pregnant.

I have itchy boobs, but I think thats because of how fast they are growing!

Everyone is very organised, am I the only person that has bought nothing so far?

mixedmamameansbusiness · 29/11/2010 17:06

bluebeach - I bought one vest with a pair of teeny trousers when I was in H&M buying some clothes for my other two the other day, that is all I actually have so far.
