Goodness its busy here! Thanks coco29. I'm feeling a bit better, not achey anymore and managed a decent night's sleep last night Smile. I have started coughing now though which is really uncomfortable as my ribs havent stopped hurting since the last one a month ago Angry. Oh well.

Ocean for me spd feels like a dull ache at the very front and middle of my pubic bone. If I move my legs apart Hmm to get in the car or bed I get a sharp pain. It is also sharp if I roll over in bed. I have it earlier this time so I just hope it doesn't get worse. I am just being careful not to aggravate it and hope it settles down. I am seeing the mw on Monday so will ask her advice then.

On reusable nappies I used them for my previous two, although not religiously but I didn't beat myself up over it! I just used the cheapest pre-folds with motherease wraps and either disposable or fleece liners. I still have them in the loft so will dig them out but its interesting to see how nappies have moved on in the last 5 years. I might see if the council will help with some new ones.

Hope everyone is keeping warm.

StrangewaysHereICome · 25/11/2010 13:36

oooh just did the toilet roll thing - exactly 9 of Tesco aloe vera Blush. Is that really bad Shock!

emma31177 · 25/11/2010 14:40

Muser · 25/11/2010 14:50

I got mine from thenappylady.co.uk coco, you can fill in a form to get advice on what would suit you best. I got 2 options, one cheaper one more expensive, and then a trial option made up from both of those. I went for the trial option first.

I have also been keeping an eye on usednappies.co.uk where you can pick up secondhand ones. I just got a set of Motherease for £11.50. Bargain! Think that and the trial pack will do me for starters.

Hiya peeps, welcome new peeps, am just checking in really as I wait for DS1 to wake up from his nap. I let him sleep 1-3 in the day and I hate waking him up, he's so grouchy when I wake him these days!!! A one and a half year old teenager...

Anyway I never thought I'd say this after the hell I went through delivering him, but I've been looking in to hypnobirthing. Mainly for the early boring part of labour, to help keep me rested and calm - because DS's birth was so awful, I was panicking about this one from the beginning. I'm listening to the relaxation CD every time DS is down for a nap and I usually fall asleep to it! I expect I'll still end up getting an epidural, esp if I have another back-to-back delivery, but every little helps I think.... Anyone else looking at the hypno stuff?

No snow in South London yet, quite up for it though as reckon DS would be v interested in it! Also might mean DH can't get to work so an extra pair of hands at home! He has 3 weeks off over Xmas as he's changing jobs, but we've realised that means he's not entitled to paid paternity leave!!! Perhaps not unpaid either - he's talking to them about it today. Gutted or what!!!

am988 · 25/11/2010 15:37

Hello All,

Its great seeing all the new people - and of course reading the updates from the regulars :)

for all those interested in using reusables - this is a very useful site to check out.

I'm planning to use them too, our council provides the grant - plus... our binman comes collecting general waste every two weeks .. so I dread to think of the smell if i use disposables and they are left in the bin in summer for 2 weeks! Here's the site:

www.thenappylady.co.uk/

emma31177 same here with boobies - i thought it was just me thinking i need to buy bigger bras, seriously they ache so much i want to cry!!

pippip and anyone reading: at the moment reading 'childbirth without fear' and 'calm birth' all from amazon. interesting and both put things in perspective... and make it sound very normal esp for a 'first timer' like me.

me23 article on fetal kicks v interesting - thanks

Is anyone else panting with every hill/stairs? It is scary sometimes...

take care you all, and stay warm.
xx Am

sam26oscar · 25/11/2010 16:49

Hi all,
well back from m/w who wasn't in today grr, so phoned up dr to get appt with my own m/w to be told she could see me a week monday Hmm, anyway receptionist was very helpful after i explained i thought i had a UTI. Told me to bring sample in and she would get someone to dip it there and then!! And yes, i have another one Sad, this timne thought they sent the sample off and will give me different antibiotics if needed.
Really hope this isn't the start of me trudging back and forth to drs every 2-3 weeks. Has anyone else had them and then turned to drinking cranberry juice??? Does it help prevent them once you got rid of original infection??? Off to take DS to football....soooo cold and they train outside!

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 25/11/2010 17:55

Yay for people power! Mumsnet have fixesd the iPhone problem so I'm back Grin

Sam I'm so sorry about uti again. I used to get them a lot (and spread to kidneys twice - v painful) - so you have all my sympathy. I was worried they'd come back now I'm pg but so far ok...

pettyprudence · 25/11/2010 19:40

Lozario - i am signed up to a hypnobirthing course in jan and i'm quite excited! I dont like the sound of any of the exit routes for babies so hoping this will make me calmer. I am aiming for a natural homebirth (with the option of a hospital and lots of lovely drugs only 5 minutes away!).

I'm off to cover myself in toilet roll :)

sam26oscar · 25/11/2010 22:16

Hehehe, i have such an image of us pregnant ladies asking DH's to help measure their bellies with toilet rolls Grin It looks like we're all pretty much the same! I am 26 weeks today and as i mentioned earlier 8.5 cheap stuff wide!! So am interested if you could put how many weeks you are we could compare Grin but then again don't want us panickers to worry we too big /too small than other people Wink.

Muser · 25/11/2010 22:29

Right, I've down the toilet roll. Got interrupted and a "what the hell are you doing" for my trouble. Not sure he's any the wiser now.

I am 10 sheets of Andrex. 10. Do I win?

1Catherine1 · 25/11/2010 22:43

Evening people. Hoping everyone with a cold is starting to feel better. I'm recovering slowly although this weather isn't helping much, that and my flat is absolutely freezing. I have every radiator on full blast yet even my cat comes and sits under my duvet to warm up. The flat is so badly insulated that I'm really quite worried how we'll keep our little girl warm on cold nights when we only just manage to keep us warm. And Emma you aren't alone with the boob pain in this cold - I find the only way I can do anything is when I come home I wrap up in my big wooly dressing gown and keep the important bits warm (that being the boobs and bump) and I never leave the house without my cardy, coat and scarf - masterfully positioned to give extra warmth to boobs Wink

Got a brief flurry of snow this morning but hoping that is it for us. Am religiously following the weather forecast to keep updated though not that it is all that reliable.

I'm actually refusing to think about labour at the moment. Being my first I have a massive fear of the unknown and an even bigger fear that my OH won't cope and I'll end up doing it on my own - yes I realise he can't actually do any of it for me but you know what I mean. He's a big strong man who has a fear of hospitals. He went into hospital a few months ago to have a pin fitted in his wrist which wasn't a major operation but anyone would think he was going in for heart surgery, I had to hold his hand until he was under. I've given him till the end of Feb to decide (after our NCT classes) if he can handle it or not and if he decides he can't I'll ask my mum or sister.

Sam Cranberry juice is said to be able to prevent UTI and I think if I actually got one I might actually force the awful stuff down but remembering to drink plenty of water should help you anyway, I hope you feel better soon.

Been a bit concerned today, LO isn't moving all that much. I have got so used to the regular movements that I could feel even when sat at work that the fact I have only felt one movement this evening which was ever so slightly faint has left me a bit worried. When am I allowed to get worried? I'm only 23w+4 so would it still be reasonable to get days where she changes position and I can't feel her? Friday is the day my MW is at my local GP surgery so if I'm still worried in the morning I think I'll give them a call to see if they can squeeze me in.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 25/11/2010 23:25

Catherine - only just told DH he wasn't birth partner (he's away until emergency call...) and think he was quite relieved!

My SIL told me today she's expecting a girl (v happy for her and lovely that the cousins will be only about a month apart) but she was talking about "when they are teenagers...". Scary...

Also - my mw told me not to count movements but get used to LOs cycle. Have no idea, it's most of the time when I'm not frantic - but still totally erratic... Catherine I'm now 25 and 5 and it is having fewer "quiet" days but still some. Yes it worries me - but so far things have turned out to be fine (and I don't want to turn into a hypochondriac for first time in my life) - what I want to know is "when should I really worry?" One midwife (20 week check) said they have growth spurts that use their energy - next one at 24 weeks said different. I feel very confused and tbh am relying on gut feeling.

Clucky31 · 26/11/2010 10:16

Catherine - I also had a very quiet day from LO yesterday, I felt absolutely no movement all day (am 25+5) but he seems to be making up for it today. I don't think you need to worry about it too much at this stage (easier said than done I know). As you've said, I think there are still some places baby can hide Smile

Larty74 · 26/11/2010 10:27

9 1/4 Andrex for me!

TooImmature2BMum · 26/11/2010 12:46

8 sheets of Andrex exactly! 26+1. Baby was very active all day yesterday, which was lovely - I hadn't been feeling her as much for a while. Stupid anterior placenta! Catherine, don't worry - I just went through a week of feeling very little and being convinced my bump had shrunk a bit, but she's back now kicking away and my tummy button is feeling stretched again so I think she must have just turned over or something and has now turned back.

spaceal · 26/11/2010 13:26

I just tried to do the loo roll test and our evidently cheap loo roll kept breaking on me, but I think it was about 9 sheets - and I'm 25+1. I'm glad you're all around the same as I keep seeing pictures of women at 25ish weeks and they all look much bigger than me.

Bizarrely it feels like some of my nausea has returned - anyone else had this at all? Of course it might just be something unrelated, but it's a bit of a surprise - I've been fine since about 14 weeks.

My LO definitely has quieter and more active days, but always seems to move before I get too worried. We've got an additional scan on Monday so looking forward to some more reassurance - and some more photos Grin

We've still got a lot of snow, and more promised for the weekend - and I'm cold in my flat too, Catherine. And, yes I get the cold boob pain as well. Horrible.

cherub59 · 26/11/2010 13:31

Is it too late to join?
I am expecting no.3 DS on 3rd March and already had DS 3 and DS20 months - still slightly freaked out at the thought of 3 under 3 1/2!!!!

sam26oscar · 26/11/2010 15:07

Welcome cherub59 wow, you must have no t.v in your house Wink Wink!! Congratuations!! And no its not too late to join us, you must however join in with the toilet roll competition Grin.

I posted a thread yesterday about transverse lie, and wondered if any of you know how baby is lying at the moment, and more important to me, where abouts are you feeling the movement??? I am still getting whacked in the cervix which really bloody hurts....am half convinced thats why getting these UTI's little bugger causing grief already!!!! Also have movement on right side of tummy. Just trying to work out which way its lying!

Well, must brave the freezing cold weather and prepare myself for frozen nipps!

may invent the thermal bra specially for pregnant women !!!!

1Catherine1 · 26/11/2010 16:43

It's never too late to join cherub! Well... perhaps April would be a tad late to join but November is plenty early enough! Welcome to the thread. :)

Turns out my midwife is on holiday next week so so much for the getting the health in pregnancy grant application form 2 days before the 25w mark. I have to wait till 2 days after instead. Shouldn't moan for 4 days but pregnancy has really fine tuned my moaning skills and I'm just so good at it now. Grin

Been out shopping again today. Bought the maxi cosi cabriofit car seat and Easybase. Decided it was best bet in my tiny 3 door KA. According to my spreadsheet I have now spent over 185 pounds on baby things and still need to spend about 500 pounds more! Need to take a break from baby shopping for at least a month now for Christmas and the dreaded vet bill that is incoming as soon as they release my cat from the vets which will probably be next week now. I'm also still hoping on baby related Christmas presents :)

LO decided to give me a reassuring kick last night as I was dosing off. So I am quite sure I fell asleep with a smile on my face. She is having another quiet day today but I feel reassured that this is normal thanks to you lot :) I think NowPanic might be right because my belly has had quite a grow last week from "pregnant or maybe fat woman" to "pregnant woman". I'm even finding my stretchy non maternity standard length tops aren't long enough last week even though they were last week. Will have to venture to Primark on payday for some cheap tops to see my through till March.

Jenchandler · 26/11/2010 18:33

Hi all,
Is anyone else finding their brain is turning to mush? I tried paying for our food shop with our costa reward card, went xmas shopping to find that I couldnt really remember what I wanted to buy, and then spent all afternoon baking lemon drizzle cake which I just dropped on the floor. Sigh!!!
I have felt less movements today than the last 2 days, but am not too worried. I'm sure baby is just hibernating from the cold! I always feel my kicks either above my bladder or to the left of there. My bump has moved out quite a lot this week..maybe I'm having a boy!
Have a great weekend, I am just about to drive to the west country where its snowing..eek!

PipPipPip · 26/11/2010 19:21

What a bunch of loons you all are, measuring your tummies with loo roll!! Hahaha. Does this 'method' date back to the days before scales or tape measures were invented!?!? :)

Welcome Spaceal and Cherub59 How are you going? Is this your first baby? Do you live in the UK? How have you been feeling lately?

TooImmature2BMum · 26/11/2010 19:40

Hush up, PipPipPip and get measuring! I did wonder about using an actual measuring tape, but for some reason the toilet roll is more fun. I don't want to know how many inches my waist is these days, either.

Jenchandler, your poor lemon drizzle cake!

I have no idea which way my baby is lying. I seem to feel movement all over my tummy and I can't work it out. Maybe it will become clearer later on.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 26/11/2010 20:26

My kicks seem to be predominantly on the right and in the middle. When I saw mw last week she said it was lying horizontally with head on the right (I think - preg brain is a nightmare - had to do loo roll three times as I couldn't remember by the time I was going to post - first time I got it in my head it was 16!!!). If the head is on the right shouldn't kicks be on the left?!? Then again they are still moving around. Think I'm overthinking it - will go back to just finding kicks reassuring!

Lol - little one has just given four good jabs on the left...

sam26oscar · 26/11/2010 20:36

YAY, Jenchandler its been snowing loads here, am in North Somerset and its pitched, i am SO excited!!! Hopefully theer will be more overnight and then i won't have to take DS1 to football and be a supportive mummy and cheer him on from the sidelines freezing my t*ts off....does that make me a bad mummy????? TBH i don't care!! I like staying in to see the snow!!
