Hello everyone.

Cannot believe we are approaching he final trimester either, still feels very far off.

I have not even begun the Christmas shennanigans yet. DSs have a list as long as my arm so I imagine for their bits I can probably just go online. We have never had a Christmas tree before for a million silly reasons so this year the boys have asked for one and are really into it all so we are planning on hopefully having a really traditional/memorabl Christmas.

Baby is still moving around a fair bit, but a little stressed as DS2 (2 yrs 10 mon) is constantly being picked up, jumping on me etc. Yesterday i took him to a dance and drum session and he wanted me to do absolutely everything with him - cue baby making some very strange movements making me take a sharp intake of breath every time I got up and down. I think the more physical activities we try to do are just going to have to give way now as I just couldnt fuinction after.

For the lady asking about nervousness, did it come naturally etc. The answer for me was yes and no. I worried constantly about everything and hardly slept until DS1 moved into his own room. For me there was a lot of advice interference from my ILS who compounded my fears and anxieties really so definitely as already mentioned go with what is right fo YOU and YOUR baby..... the sentence that ran your aunite/mum etc done their own thing certainly rings true. It will come and you will cope although sometimes it will be impossible one tiny thing will make it all worthwhile.

SOrry I cant actually remember who said what.... one day my memory may actually return to the prechildren state.

Oceanbreeze · 24/11/2010 13:41

Ah, thanks Muser I've bookmarked that site, but not actually got any further with doing anything about it! I think I might get my trial kit from twinkle as the kit has 4 different nappies to see which (if any!) I like. superpenguin I'm with you on the confusion - so many different brands & types. Then there are the different fabrics, fasteners, boosters etc. Makes my brain hurt.

KPidgeon I was also planning a trip to Wales this weekend - now it all depends on the weather! Brrrr.

sam26oscar · 24/11/2010 13:53

superpenguin we used to live in Suffolk not far from Bury st Edmunds and i miss the snow!! We got it 5 out of the 6 yrs we were there!! I am interested in reusuable nappies, but am afraid of the constant washing, and also don't want to be scraping shit off them and soaking them TBH!! However, i think you can buy disposable liners now??? Also the drying is a concern for me too as although i do have a tumble dryer am loathe to use it as expensive!! Any suggestions on brands much appreciatedGrin

sam26oscar · 24/11/2010 13:55

Also how many would i realistically need?? i would rather save them up for one day and wash them and dry them overnight, so may not be ready in morning?? As you can see haven't thought too much about this Blush

MJM86 · 24/11/2010 14:21

Hi ladies, just joined recently and someone gave me link to the due in March.

Due first bubba on 13th March :)

TooImmature2BMum · 24/11/2010 15:00

Hello all!

Catherine, hope your cat is better.

I was so organised in my head about the Health in Pregnancy grant and then forgot to phone midwife until today (25+6), and I had to leave a message and she hasn't called back yet.

When are you counting as the beginning of the 3rd trimester? 27 weeks or the actual calendar date three months before your due date? If it's by the calendar, mine is 3 Dec, which is only next Friday - weirdness. 27 weeks is the Thursday, so it doesn't make much difference! Grin

How much has your bump grown in the last month? Mine doesn't seem much bigger at all, despite reading that the baby was supposed to double in size in month 6. If she has, I don't know where she's hiding! I can feel her moving quite a lot now, though, so I am not too worried (much).

I want snow too! Despite the fact I know perfectly well that work will go mad (I work in the Roads section of a council) if it snows, I still love it.

Maternity leave - I can't decide when I want to go off! I've told my boss that I want maternity leave to start on 28 Feb, but that I'm planning to take some of my annual leave before that. The trouble is, I can't decide whether to use all my annual leave and go off at the beginning of Feb, or whether to hang in there for an extra couple of weeks. I want at least a little while at home before the baby comes.

Larty74 · 24/11/2010 15:24

is gaviscon ok to have anyone?

JeelyPiece · 24/11/2010 15:40

Superpenguin did your midwife tell you to count 10 movements per day? I asked mine about that last week (as I wanted to know if two movements in five seconds counted as one movement or two!) and she kind of curled her lip and said 'where did you read THAT?' making me feel like I was quoting crazy old wives' tales at her or something.

She said we don't count movements, we ask you to get in tune with your baby (a bit woo there) and know what time of day to expect movement so you know if it reduces.

Bit concerned about that really as mine moves randomly at all times of the day and some days is busier than others! I may secretly do the counting thing, sshhh...

Muser · 24/11/2010 16:02

superpenguin The Teddy ones are microfibre, not bamboo. I think most of what Bambinex do are bamboo though. These ones are meant to be practically dry as soon as they get out of the machine. And very fluffy. But not natural material if that's important to you.

sam I would advise going to The Nappy Lady website and filling in the advice form there. You'll get tailored info. Even if you don't buy from there, at least it gives you an idea what to look for. I got quoted 2 options, one for daily washing and one for every other day.

You do get disposable liners, which are flushable. If there's poo you can just flush it away. If they're wet I think some types you can wash them a few times and reuse, or just flush. Friends I know who use reusables have said they actually mean less contact with poo, as the reusables contain poo explosions much better, so you don't end up with a baby with poo all up their back!

everyone please to stop mentioning "third" and "trimester" close to each other. Some of us are trying not to think about that! Grin

sam26oscar · 24/11/2010 16:12

Thanks Muser toddling off to website now Grin Jeelypiece your midwife sounds a bit hippyish!!! Mine said from 28 weeks start to keep an eye on movements and count 10 a day, am going to see her tomorrow and will ask what actually counts as 1 movement!! Does 2 kicks in 5 seconds count as 1 ??... i will ask for us all Grin Just googled third trimester Blush and apparently its from 27 weeks, OMG thats next week for me!!!

Medee · 24/11/2010 17:01

I've just done the Nappy Lady thing, shall see what I get back. A friend has, I think, some MOtherease she has offered me.

me23 · 24/11/2010 17:31

Actually jeely pieces mw is right, I'm in the 3rd year of midwifery training and we have been taught not to advise women to use a kick chart or count movements anymore we now say to keep an eye on baby's rountine and if you feel movements have decreased to alert mw.

LARTY Gaviscon is fine to take in pregnancy I keep a bottle by my bed and gulp the stuff.

23 weeks today, I've been feeling so nauseous lately, have hardly eaten anything today-only a bit of bread and butter, so I feel justified in ordering a chinese tonight Blush

spaceal · 24/11/2010 17:34

Hi. I'm due with my first on March 10th - we're having a girl. Been lurking here for a while and met a few of you on the antenatal tests boards and finally thought I'd join here properly.

I'm in the north east and we've got a lot of snow already. A good covering on the roads and pavements. I'm not look forward to heavy snow when heavily pregnant.

Larty74 · 24/11/2010 18:20

Thanks me23 I'm convinced this is a tummy bug i've caught from school. I'm next in on Friday and if i'm not better tomorrow, am thinking I fancy a long weekend. Not worth it. Or we could get lucky if the snow heads south

OMG DH just walked thru the door with a dozen Krispy Kremes - the christmas selection!!!!!! I think my appetite just came back.

Welcome to spaceal and MJM86

PipPipPip · 24/11/2010 19:04

Welcome MJM86! How has pregnancy been treating you so far? How are you feeling emotionally? Physically?

We've all been through a fair bit since this thread started back in July-or-something, but you'll soon catch up ;)

EvianBaby · 24/11/2010 21:16

Hi all

This thread has been so busy recently Grin. So nice to hear everyones news, thoughts, worries etc!

spaceal - i'm due 10th March too and am in North East! Welcome!

me thanks for the info re: movement. You're a very useful person to 'know'! I've always wanted a MW as a friend!!! My MW said v similar, movement depends on the baby and 'less' movement is only really a concern if your baby usually moves more.

Had my 24 week check up with MW last week, asked her to give me my Health in Pregnancy form. She agreed as long as I didn't post it until I am 25 weeks. Must remember to post it tomorrow.

We have had some snow here, caused slight chaos as it was during rush hour! My DS was super excited and took his time getting from nursery to the car! He was covered by the time we reached the car. I drove home thinking we could have a quick play in it when we got home but it had stopped by the time we arrived! I don't think he was impressed! I'm sure he will be a lot more though before the spring. I'm also not looking forward to being heavily pregnant in the depths of winter Hmm

Hope everyone has had a good day, i'm off to find a heartburn tablet!

jammiedodger2 · 24/11/2010 21:37

Hi Everyone
Welcome to the new-comers. I am feeling much better, I have, for the first time in my life pulled a sickie this week Blush
Much needed and am feeling less tired. DH seems to be better although he is going back to gp to be on the safe side.
Am not looking forward to snow at all. I work as a Health Visitor (ducks) and our boss's boss has a very strict policy of 'you don't work, you don't get paid'. The town I work in is in a valley with serious 1/10 hills. Last year we had loads of snow and ice and I spent my working days treking up and down hills with my scales on a sledge!
I don't fancy doing that this year 6 months gone! My mums were all delighted to see me tho and I got lots of tea!
Getting loads of movements, all feels a bit squirmy!I am also counting my movements a bit, it saved dd life ten years ago so it's a tough habit to break.I would in theory love to do re-usable nappies but can't get my head around it!
wrap up warm
love
jx

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 24/11/2010 22:35

Welcome newcomers - hope you've had good pregnancies so far.

God I feel tired this week - so much for blooming Grin . Also have some kind of ear infection that is dragging me down - but seems to be on the mend - am happier avoiding antibiotics if I can.

Re snow - I love playing in it but am dreading walking pavements - my balance already seems to be going a bit wonky (and keep opening car doors into my belly - don't seem to remember it's there Blush ). Also last winter I slipped and broke my arm so am already cautious...

Can't believe it's 3rd trimester next week - really is flying by and I feel I've got nothing done. Btw stupid question but what's the answer to "how many months are you?". The number of weeks we are and the number left to go don't add up so I'm confused!

Finally... are we doing the toilet roll test? I also googled it and assume no one was thinking of the first few hits I got!!!

sam26oscar · 25/11/2010 09:19

NowPanicAndFreakOut go on then i'll do the toilet roll test!!! Ok, i have wrapped it round my belly and its 8.5 sheets round back and middle of bump [grin[ Grin, by the way i only have cheap toilet roll not the posh andrex stuff does that make a difference Wink!! Am off to MW with wee sample that looks v cloudy (TMI) will ask her to make sure this time, bit frightened to tell her she missed it last time if the same one Blush. Will check in later to see if i'm the only nutter wrapping bog roll round my belly Grin xx

TooImmature2BMum · 25/11/2010 09:50

Will someone please explain the toilet roll test?? What is it supposed to tell you? I'll go try it if you tell me more!

By the way, Larty, Gaviscon is fine, I think. Lots of people on here recommend it.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 25/11/2010 11:05

TooImmature test is just wrapping toilet roll around your bump and counting how many sheets you need. I find it harder than it sounds - bog roll kept tearing!

Sam I'm 7.5 Andrex!!!! It must also make a difference what we were before we started - oddly I didn't wrap loo roll round myself before now but was a size 6 (don't suppose I'll see that 22 inch waist for a while - if ever again!)

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 25/11/2010 11:10

Ps - I always use Mumsnet on my phone and it's gone totally weird / broken / now just really un-user friendly since last night - anyone know if they've changed it or whether it's my phone being weird? I would post this elsewhere but on the new system it will take me an hour to get there...

coco29 · 25/11/2010 11:45

morning gurls - hope everyone is keeping good and well wrapped up. My god is it cold out!!
Coraltoes and Pipipip - many thanks for the info re:massage, I've written the details down in my notebook in case I need it again. Hubby has been really good last few nights and I am back pain free today. Yippeee :o !
And Yes pip - get pangs of omg every now and again but am sure this happens to every mamtobe out there. Just nice to know others feel it too.
Strangeways, catherine and anyone else who has had the ole sniffles, hope you're on the mend. Muser, can I ask where you bought your starter pack from and was it the bambinex teddys? Am defo going to give the re-useables a go, they sound great. Learning so much from this site, its great. Thanks. Going to go about getting the voucher from the council too.
Eeeep! What have I started with the toilet roll test..ah its a bit of fun though.. Ok I just had a go..7.5 sheets of the cheapy stuff from work. 24 weeks today. I don't know anyone else pregnant so will be good to hear if I'm on track bumpsize wise.
xx

JeelyPiece · 25/11/2010 12:33

NowPanic it's bad isn't it, mobile devices are defaulting to the mobile site, lots of complaints in Site Stuff! Hope they change it back soon

My bump has become huge (to me anyway) in the last couple of weeks, if it keeps going at this rate I won't be able to move before long!
