New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Mw has been and all ok. Had loads of blood taken, so will find out if I have to have a stupid iron infusion on Monday.

Discussed birth options and I feel so much better that all my preferences and concerns have been written in my notes. She went through the pushing stage with me as I confessed I was a bit frightened of it, having never got that far last time, so that was helpful.

Baby is not quite so low as he was, but still the right way round, so I'm wondering why my pubic bone has just started hurting!! I need a few more things for my labour bag, but apart from that, I do feel like I'm ready for things to happen now. I don't feel quite so terrified of everything.

How is everyone else feeling about their impending birth?

RockLover · 07/01/2011 14:01

Cupcake, I had a mattress protector for the cot, but never bothered with the moses basket, didn't even know you could get them. It was worth it as dd had many a leaky nappy during the night when she was little.

Also worth having plenty of spare sheets and extra baby sleeping bags if you will be using them.

LadyBubbaAndBump · 07/01/2011 14:12

cupcake I've never bothered with a waterproof sheet. To be honest, I've never had a leaky nappy, although sometimes baby sick has sogged the sheets. Most mattresses do have a removable cover though under a sheet (or two if you're concerned) which is also washable.

However, I've also never used a moses basket though as I have a small crib thing which was mine when I was a baby and lasts the baby until they're gone six months.

I did used to put a couple of sheets on (to whip the top one off) and have a spare set of bedtime clothes and blankets to hand so that if there was baby puking in the night, I wasn't scrabbling around to find the right things. Top Tip (if I may say so myself) :o

Went to buy zips. Spent £40 on material and other things instead!! Hmm [confusd] :o

LadyBubbaAndBump · 07/01/2011 14:14

Oops, almost x-post with Rock there about spare sheets etc. Top Advice :)

RunningKatie · 07/01/2011 14:22

I love the willy thread. Although it does rather remind me of my nephews and I'm scared to laugh too much in case I have an accident.

Just goes to show how much I've forgotten about work, I've got an email from someone and I sat here thinking "who are they"? Then it eventually dawned on me, it's my boss. Shock

Mattress covers hadn't even occured to me, I wonder what else I've not thought about.

CupcakesHay · 07/01/2011 14:22

Hmmm - I saw this and thought this looked handy - thought i could kind of stick in moses basket - and then transfer to cot bed... matress protector

Also - how many sheets will I need? I have (hang on - limping over to count....) - Ok - i have 4 sheets and 3 sleeping bags. That's enough isn't it?

Brill news rock - i'm pleased you are feeling a bit more "au fait" with the whole birth/pushing thing. really must get my arse into gear to look at breathing techniques on you tube or somewhere....

RockLover · 07/01/2011 14:28

One Born Every Minute starts again on Monday, thinking of forcing dp to watch it. Although will probably terrify myself all over again watching those poor women screaming and moaning in pain.

Maybe you could watch it for research purposes Cupcake. Grin

CupcakesHay · 07/01/2011 14:43

Ugh - i've heard of that show and remember thinking i could never watch that! UGH! no ignorance is bliss I think! Grin

Crystylline · 07/01/2011 14:57

yay! i'm screwing!

well, in a new found relationship with planks of MDF way, not the other... last time I did that, a large bump appeared! Wink

excellent news rock you must feel so much better.

found an antenatal group to join as well as breastfeeding support group, so got some things to do next week now too.

cupcakes i've got 4 sheets for the moses basket, 3 blankets and a few sleeping bags.

also got a dozen or so for the cot and will get a mattress protector for that, but will wait for a couple of months til he's big enough.

katie i love that you didn't recognise your boss' email. I've been naughtily checking my mail too and keep seeing all these lovely things popping up that i wish i was part of... then i remember that i've got a more lovely thing to be doing for the next few months... aw i've got the warm and fuzzies today about bump!

gallicgirl · 07/01/2011 15:45

morning Afternoon ladies.

Glad to see you're mostly well and keeping out of mischief.

Now baby is right way around, I've been ordering the last bits of things I need from kiddicare. Got a 5% discount code and free delivery so I don't have to haul my chubby bum around the shops :)

Can't recall who asked about mattress protectors but my moses basket mattress has a waterproof side anyway and I've bought a cot mattress which supposedly wipes clean easily. I never heard that leaky nappies were an issue and thought I would only need a waterproof cover once we start potty training but I suppose it'll make the mattress last longer anyway.

Cupcakes, I also have 4 sheets but have only ordered one gro-bag. Think I'll wait and see how it goes as have lots of blankets. the MIL found the blankets she used for DP when he was baby and gave me those which I think is lovely idea.

Pootle78 · 07/01/2011 15:54

Crystyl you have made me smile - thank you!

And love the willy thread!

Rock glad you are happier about the birth side and you have had your mind put at rest

Crystyl thanks also for the sheets numbers, I have 2 fitted for moses and 2 fitted for pram top, my mum has bought some cellular blankets and I have acquired a normal sheet with our moses basket. I also have 1 grow bag, so looks like I need to buy a few more!

Kate you also made me smile about the e-mail from work, you made me check mine and since Christmas eve all I seem to have e-mails from are either Mamas and Papas or Amazon, obviously nobody at work gives a sh*t about me!!!!!

The plumber and his muppet sidekick have left the house so all is good for the moment, but back on Monday (when hubby will be back at work (arrghh!)), although they have left the main radiator not working!

Hubby has installed wireless broadband so am back on the net so think I need a game of bejeweled blitz on facebook to keep me entertained! And I think I need to go back to sleep as I'm sure the sh*te of this morning won't seem so bad after more than 4 hours sleep!

You'll be glad there has been no more tears on the loo, just wish I could say no more tears at all - I'm pregnant, hormonal and if I want to cry, I will!!!

LadyBuzz · 07/01/2011 16:02

oooh you lot have been chatty today. I'm bound to have forgotten what i've read!

gallicgirl great news that the ECV went well!

mattress protectors - I'm sure my moses basket one is waterproof, the crib one has a removable cover, I never had one for the cot but will prob get one this time as I now have a cot bed which will prob be used through potty training.

I have found them useful on the boys big beds.

Great tip about the sheets bubba

1 thing i did do whenh they were tiny was have a folded muslin under their heads in the pram and moses basket so you could just whip it out if they puked.

Loved the willy thread - boys are all the same!!

LadyBuzz · 07/01/2011 16:04

oh and bubba I have been debating the present from baby thing. We did it for DS1 and he got a teddy for DS2. Now however the one and only thing he can remember from coming to meet DS2 was daddy getting him a kinder egg from the hospital shop Grin

I think I will do it again this time and just keep it small!

Fuzzywood · 07/01/2011 16:41

Hi all,
Our moses basked matress is waterproof already so that's fine, we do have a waterproof sheet for the cot bed though as is useful then, again mainly for sick rather than anything else. The double sheet thing is a top tip, scrabbling around half asleep trying to find clean ones in the middle of the night is no fun. If DD is anything to go by you will get some leaky nappies, the projectile pooing is also rater impressive Wink, made me scream when I was in the firing line once Grin.
Bubba I am planning on getting something for DD from the baby. She's obsessed with the Gruffalo at the minute and I saw a mug and bowl set the other day with the Gruffalo on it for £10 I think so may get that (we have enough soft toys to open a shop so trying to avoid teddy bears!).
Absolutely shattered today as DH had the cricket on until about 1.30 in bed then DD woke up at 6.15, also had 3 of my NCT friends and their 2 year olds (plus one baby) around for a couple of hours this afternoon so even more tired now. DH is working from here today though so hopefully will take over soon!
I think I spoke too soon about the potty training going well as we've had 4 accidents today, am not giving in though!
Gallicgirl glad the ECV went well. Must be a relief. Glad to hear everyone else is feeling a bit better this afternoon. Fuzzy jnr is still attempting somersaults so hoping it stays head down, half tempted to call the midwife early next week if it keeps doing it and say I think it might have flipped over so I can get a scan to check which way up it is. Thought it had done so earlier but think the big round bit sticking out was its bum rather than head but hey who knows! If its breech and they don't find out until late in the day then I'll end up with a transfer from the local MLU to the bigger hospital which is about 40 mins away, could do without that really.
Will stop rambling now Smile

gallicgirl · 07/01/2011 17:28

I'm a bit paranoid that baby has turned in the night. It appears her head feels like her bottom which is why midwife wasn't sure of presentation in the first place! Will wait and see where she kicks later but not sure about calling the midwife if she's turned again. I'm not too concerned because we live very close to the hospital so easy to transfer in if I need to. I'd be concerned about a 40 minutes drive though!

RockLover · 07/01/2011 17:31

Now that the mw has been I am determined to get all the last niggly bits sorted for my hospital bag. I ought to buy some more loose clothing for after baby is here, as I was just a big pile of blubber after dd and had to wear my maternity stuff for a good long while.

I really need to get my arse to the shops to get some drinks and snacks for my hospital bag too. I need to get bloody organised, which sadly isn't my forte!

CupcakesHay · 07/01/2011 18:01

I'm sooooooo bored of the clothes I have here that i'm making DH hunt down some more tops that might fit me - so i'm with you on that one rock

Ok- i think i'll leave the stupid mattress thingy, until it happens and then get a protector if and when. I bought my moses basket in syria, and then got a mattress through ebay - so didn't think about the waterproof bit.

I think you'll baby needs a good talking to gallic if it's turned again!

fuzzy the gruffalo set sounds lovely. I think it's a really ncie idea to get a little present for current DCs - just to make them feel a bit special. Sorry about the potty training though ;)

Now the moses basket and mattress are altogether - i'm getting more excited.... although my mum's not sure if I have enough vests (!) so wanted me to check how many I had but really can't be botehred as they're all tightly packed away at moment. Grr. mums!

But on the other hand she's knitting a lovely hoodie (yeah ASBOs!) in Denim, Oatmeal and white with fluffy white cuffy bits. Adorable! Grin

I've spent most of day trying to tell baby to move away from my hip - but he's not listening!

oooh - i love having you all on here so much - keeps me company!!!!

CupcakesHay · 07/01/2011 18:05

PS. pootle pleased plumbers did most of what they were meant to do!

LadyBubbaAndBump · 07/01/2011 18:14

Cupcakes are you trying to sleep on your left hand side? It's supposed to be helpful for baby's lie (though I can't remember which hip babycupcake's lying on)?

tbh you won't need as many vests as sleepsuits/babygrows as they're underneath and, unless baby's a big puker, they won't get dirty too quickly.

don't underestimate how much you get given as presents (with the 1st DC anyway!!)

Think I will be getting the girls something from babybubba - maybe some cupcake things or biscuit cutter things as they love them beyond belief. Gruffalo thing sounds lovely too - was that from Waterstones?

God, DDs are blinking loud this evening - don't think I noticed it so much when I was at work all day, but having had the house to myself and no volume control on the DDs, esp. DD1, makes them too loud for my delicate Hmm ears!

Fuzzywood · 07/01/2011 18:30

Ooh remote control with a mute button and pause button would be ideal for DD Grin though saying that she's currently asleep on the sofa having worn herself out today, bless.
The Gruffalo stuff was in Sainsburys Bubba, if I can be bothered may go and get it tomorrow.
I think I have about 5 vests and about 6 new-born/ 0-3 baby gros. We got absolutely loads of clothes last time, sure it'll be the same for anyone having their first. The only problem with that was making sure we used it all!

AmIGoingMad · 07/01/2011 18:39

Mammoth post- I'm catching up on a day and half of posts!!!
Can't believe I forgot to congratulate you on wedding running! Congratulations!
gallicgirl- glad all went well with ECV!
pootle- I'll forgive you! Grin I'm sure that I'd be more organised if I could just get this bloody marking finished! You're such a busy lady tho- don't know how you do it!Yay on the baby turning too! Feeling for you on the night peeing front! I'm up loads in the night too but so far am managing to sleep a little between trips.
As for birth plan discussion- my midwife has just about asked which hospital I'm going to and I'm not seeing her again til I'm 39 weeks- think I'll just go through it with hubby and maybe note a few things down in my notes?!
Saltnvinegar I'm having the same lady garden dilemma- it's been so long since I tried to sort it (sorry-TMI again! Blush) that I'm also thinking that a wax will be rather painful! Although with what's coming I shouldn't really be thinking like that! haha!
rock- I'm sure all will be fine but phone to speak to someone if you need to set your mind at ease. Just read on- yey that mw came out! and glad that your mind's been put at ease slightly now. I'm having regular wobbles about the whole thing myself at the mo- don't really feel like I'm prepared- will also need to google the whole breathing thing soon!
crystll you're another busy lady- well done on the screwing Grin
cupcakes I'm devouring everything in sight! I'm not looking forward to the when's it due questions I'll be getting after birth but I cannot control myself! Blush
Apologies if bits are a bit confusing- I've been writing this as I've been reading and catching up on posts!

Pootle78 · 07/01/2011 18:44

Cupcakes we have been given loads of stuff so have 3 baby gro's (up to 9lb) packed in the hospital bag and must be at least 25 vests in the same size although I only bought 8 of them (and that was because dh insisted that i bought a smaller size (i'm convinced this baby is going to be a little butter ball as I was nearly 10lb))

When it comes to 0 - 3 we have loads of stuff, again given, leaving present from work and cute stuff i couldn't resist that needed to be bought as a new mum to be perogative an essential purchase!

And no, when I washed it, I didn't iron any of it Grin Grin Grin

AmIGoingMad · 07/01/2011 18:49

Oo- forgot to say- I've also just had my first cup of raspberry leaf tea!
Yey on the lack of ironing pootle
We haven't got any 0-3 month stuff yet- just a few neutral newborn (up to 10lb) sleepsuits and vest etc as we don't know flavour yet.

Pootle78 · 07/01/2011 18:55

AmI we don't know the flavour either but i had to start buying at some point and once I started I thought I had stopped then dh felt it was his perogative to go shopping too!!!

Crystylline · 07/01/2011 18:58

bah... broke the screwdriver. furniture now looks like badly formed meccano set.

and the TV is broken

it's not my day.

but i did just eat a blurry lovely curry and am going to demolish some cheesecake - BECAUSE - I - CAN!!!
