New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Back from my lovely massage this morning, it was heaven, I almost didn't feel pregnant for a while!! I recommend it to all of you as a good way to fill time whilst waiting for baby (especially if you can get someone else to pay!!)

cupcakes I LOVE that you had yule log for breakfast. You all make me feel so much better about my eating habits, DH is always saying how unhealthy I am. Sorry about the car seat nonsense, that is so frustrating as you will really be stuck if you don't get it in time. Agree you should get the delivery charge back and ask in writing that it will arrive by 24th. Grrrrr

crysty that's really interesting what you posted about due dates which makes me cross why they seem so keen to intervene at 40 weeks and often before even if things seem to be fine. I'm going to refuse any kind of intervention before 42 weeks if I'm still feeling good and baby looks fine.

Agree that today would be a very cool birth date, will we have anyone declare before midnight!?!

Hi ladies - had my sweep this afternoon -oomylordy that was uncomfortable! :( - but mw said to go on a vigorous walk so have just done that round the park, my poor little heart didn't know what had hit it! Anyway, she says I have 48 hrs for it to work if it's going to, although she did compliment me on my cervix Hmm Hmm - says it's nice and soft and stretchy, and central. I told her I always got complimented on my cervix - people often say "nice eyes, lovely cervix" when they first meet me Hmm :o

I don't have an ipod but can't find my CD walkman :( :( :(

gallic are you not having the cot in your room with you for a bit at least?

RunningKatie · 11/01/2011 16:13

OMG Bubba - I just laughed so much my laptop nearly fell off my knee. That really is a compliment to savour Grin

gallicgirl · 11/01/2011 16:17

We're having a moses basket in the bedroom. We don't have space for a cot in our room.

Nice reply bubba :)

ZippyPippy · 11/01/2011 16:33

LOL bubba that's too funny Grin. Do you have a birthing ball? I've heard bouncing up and down on one can help!!

RockLover · 11/01/2011 16:37

I never wanted an Ipod, but my ex gave one to me for Christmas a few years back. Lucky for me he had a fairly high earning job and so I got an Ipod classic which has a huge memory which I will NEVER fill.

At the moment though I use it more for the card game Klondike (solitaire) I'm completely addicted. Think that it will be a good thing to take to hospital if I need something to pass the time. I love music, but not sure I can be bothered to make a play list as it will probably annoy me more than anything.

I need to buy a new pair of shoes urgently, (not to mention slippers for hospital) as I am wearing my lovely calf length boots at the mo. Trouble is they are getting harder to take off now due to the fact that I can't bend over that far and My ankles are puffy. My engagement ring has gone back into it's box because my fingers are swollen a bit too :(.

Anyway enough moaning, I have actually felt half decent today, but I have eaten my own weight in digestive biscuits. So much for no sugar!

gallicgirl · 11/01/2011 16:41

OMG watching last night's OBEM on 4OD. I just want to slap that red-headed drama queen. No wonder she's in so much pain when she doesn't listen to advice from midwives, lies on her back and won't use gas and air Shock. I reckon they prioritised her for an epidural just to give the other patients some relief. She really scared that other lass.

Think if I'd been in there with her I'd have had to tell her and probably slap her. Good job I'm having a home birth, eh? Grin

Bubba what happens if labour hasn't started after 48 hours?

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 11/01/2011 16:56

Not a lot gallic - but if it does work, that's the time span. Guess I sit and wait, but a C-S is more likely after the due date as they won't induce me :(

Got to prod DH into a bit of jiggy again tonight.

My engagement and wedding rings are on my necklace - luckily one of you mentioned your rings getting tight a week or so ago so checked mine and really struggled to get them off, so just as well I checked when I did!! :o

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 11/01/2011 16:59

No birthing ball zippy though I did use one in the hospital with DD1 - did help though, and the mw suggested it today too. Might ring round baby friends to see if anyone has one...

gallicgirl · 11/01/2011 17:01

Why won't they induce you? Sorry to ask so many questions and don't answer if you don't want to. Just working out what will happen if I go over my due date.

I'm fairly happy to sit it out for as long as possible really. Mind you, I did sleep well last night so I'm pretty happy today Grin. Ask me after a sleepless night and I'd probably sign up for an ELCS with little arm-twisting!

Fuzzywood · 11/01/2011 17:05

Tee hee Bubba
Have you had a sweep before? I did the last time, the mw was convinced when she did it that DD would arrive within 48 hours and indeed she did so fingers crossed for you. They won't do a sweep with me until I'm 41 weeks, which would be a week Monday figure I'd go for it if it got that far, still hoping it might be less tardy than its big sister.
Zippy I'm very Envy of your massage, sounds lovely.
I'm off to John Lewis tomorrow to buy a set of IPod speakers to put in the hospital bag, I'm not that bothered about a play list but it'll keep DH busy and out of my way on D day Grin
i have done absolutely nothing today apart from sleep and watch DVDs as DD is with my MIL who is fab and happy to keep looking after her 1 day a week for now (she use to have her for 2 days when i was working). Plus I'll have it easy until Friday as DD goes to nursery on Weds and Thurs, was feeling so lazy and a bit guilty about DD still going to other people when I'm off but I'm so tired and she enjoys Grandma and nursery so much think I've come to terms with it now!
Haven't got around to blowing up my birthing ball this time as I'd have to hide it from DD to stop too much stuff getting broken, if I get past my due date though will definitely get it out!

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 11/01/2011 17:07

Ask away! They won't induce me because of the c-section last time - it would put too much pressure on the scar, and they don't want to risk rupturing it Shock. And because of my previously mahoosive babies, they'd like to get this one out of me sooner rather than later (me too), and naturally rather than CS (me too).

Crystylline · 11/01/2011 17:32

howdy all!

fingers crossed for you bubba. hope the sweep is a success. and congratulations on your beautiful cervix!

better that remark than the one my physio gave me about having perfect hips for childbirth - harumph!

just got back from my spending splurge. got the breast pump, baby clothes, muslins, goodies etc oh and yummy pizza and cakes for tea!

i've not got very swollen hands - you guys sound like you're suffering a little with them Sad. but i do have carpal tunnel which is a mite annoying.

and i'd love a massage! maybe i should treat myself to one this week, that or a pedicure - my feet are 'orrible cos I can't reach them anymore!

gallicgirl · 11/01/2011 17:57

mmm pedicure - now there's a good idea. I have a couple of numbers for people who will do the treatment at home so I don't even have to go out to the salon.

RockLover · 11/01/2011 18:04

Got bloody period pain again this evening, it seems to happen at this time of night. Why would that be?

It's getting really annoying because it hurts quite a bit, but it's not a contraction or anything. Hopefully my body is just limbering up in anticipation of this little one coming out in a few weeks. Never had anything like this with DD, so not quite sure what to make of it.

Crystylline · 11/01/2011 18:07

ooh lucky gallic!

I'm going to have a little search in the morning to see if there's anyone that might do the same in my area. that would absolutely make my day!

a couple of quick questions:

Bathing newborns - just water, or what's a good oil/foam I could use?

and then...

TENS - don't have one - should I?
Birthing Ball - don't have one - should I?

NoLadyButManyBubbasAndBumps · 11/01/2011 18:16

just water for bubbas - unless they have particularly dry skin then there are emolliants you can use

I swore by my TENS machine with DD1, partly because it's good for fiddling with and taking your concentration away from the pains. I do also think it helped in the early stages. you can hire them from Boots iirc (I'm borrowing one from a friend this time round).

I'd only bother with a birthing ball if you were going to use it after for yogabollocks or something similar, but you can get good deals on ebay etc, rather than buy one new. most hospitals have them too and you can use theirs once you're in unless you're having a home birth

rock I am also crampy again - periody-pains like two nights ago. I would say it's because you've been on your feet, but I think you said you've been watching DVDs all day, so maybe not that. I'm thinking of popping a paracetamol, which is quite Shock for me as I don't think anything medicinal has passed my lips in over 9 months now.

Fuzzywood · 11/01/2011 18:16

Crystlline I just used water, was told by various people to avoid Johnsons stuff. DD did have mild excma (sp?) though so had to be extra careful. Don't think you'll need anything apart from water.
I borrowed a TENS last time and just found it annoying but I know it works for a lot of people so may be worth looking into. Most pharmacies do them, think you can also hire them from NCT.
As for a birthing ball sitting on one is supposed to help with the baby's position and open up your pelvis or something like that. I sat on mine a lot last time. We bought a gym ball rather than a birthing ball though as it was half the price and exactly the same. Its the age old add birth to something and charge more for it! Make sure you get the right size though, they normally come suitable for a certain height.
Right I'm off to eat some pineapple and prepare some spicy food for tonight, bired of being pregnant now Grin

RockLover · 11/01/2011 18:17

Crysty I'm not bothering with a TENS because it just annoyed me last time, but many women swear by them. And I don't have a birthing ball either, but think I'd quite like one.

This period pain is coming and going, so beginning to think they might be little warm up contractions. I REALLY can't go into labour for the next few days as I don't have everything sorted. Hope this isn't the start of anything.

gallicgirl · 11/01/2011 18:22

Love my birthing ball - got it from birthease
www.birthease.co.uk/birthease_shop/Birth-Birthing-Ball.shtml and it arrived almost the next day. Helps with back ache at the moment and makes it easier for DP to massage my back.

Got a tens machine from Nature's Gate. Think I ordered it Friday and it arrived today. I did see a cheaper one somewhere...might have been an advert in that Emma's Diary thing you get with your Bounty pack.

CupcakesHay · 11/01/2011 18:24

Well - over my rant - and feel calmer after swim - well - i just stuck to edge and kicked my legs. My hip was killing me - but i think it's def loosened it up a bit.

crystlline I love my ipod - although my battery's def going on it - but i've had it for about 5 years now... but rarely take it out - as i have a teeny shuffle too which i love and only put fave albums on - so i don't care what i listen to. oh- just rad your last post - and think your "sensible" shopping spree sounds good too!

gallic i've heard good things about that breast pump.

bubba hope by the time you get this message the sweep and the walk have done the trick! Come on - we're all pinning our hopes on your baby for the cool date! And I love the "nice cervix" compliment - must have made your day!

Newborn babies just need water wasing - i've been told - with some cotton wool pads, and then maybe once or twice a week wash in a bath... as they don;t get too grubby. I've been told to bring cotton wool into hopsital with me.

I've got the TENS machine - hired it from Boots for £56 - which is the hire cost and a deposit.

zippy pleased your massage was lovely and relaxing.... and yes yule log for breakfast was a bit naughty - usually i have porridge or marmite on toast.

Off out tomorrow to Newton Abbott - ooooh the fun! need to get more materity pads... and I think that's it.... but just looking forward to seeing normal shops!

CupcakesHay · 11/01/2011 18:25

x post - i'm obviously very very very slow at posting - there's been about 6 messages since i typed mine out!!!!!!!!

Quickly - can you have epidurals etc with birthing pools? And do you need bikini or can you just go in with a t-shirt on?

Fuzzywood · 11/01/2011 18:57

Cupcakes I don't think you can use the pool if you've had an epidural. You can wear what you like as long as they can check your progress, baby's heartbeat things like that. A bikini top or t-shirt you can easily pull up would work though I ended up starkers Grin

Pootle78 · 11/01/2011 19:08

New thread here

And cupcakes 1000 posts before another baby!

RockLover · 11/01/2011 19:13

I haven't been watching dvds today, however I haven't done a huge amount . I have felt less sick today so I actually got some washing and folding done, not sure that would constitute being active though lol.

The cramps seem to have eased off a bit again after eating the yummy chicken soup DP made for us. But my tummy does feel a little tender still, like something's going on, however I'm pretty sure labour isn't imminent.

My Mum has just begged me to hang on for the week as she has flu and wouldn't be able to come down if baby made an appearance now, so crossing my legs.
