New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Made it to the party and back again. DD had a lovely time, completely hyper now though so not sure when we'll get her to sleep!
Parents is about 140 miles away, we're in Bucks and they're in S Wales, pretty much M4 all the way so should hopefully be ok.
Running I'd say you'd be fine to go to the wedding but agree an overnight, especially if you could stay at the venue might be a good idea. At that age we could park DD in her pram in the corner of the noisiest room and she'd sleep no trouble at all. If the bride is happy for you to confirm closer to the date though that might help.

BubbaAndBump · 17/12/2010 20:21

Hey Running we went to a wedding when DD1 was about 12 weeks old and kept the pram with us in the corner of the room and she slept pretty much right through it! It was up in Alnwick though which is about 300 miles from where we live so we stayed overnight. Was a lot easier as we felt that if she hadn't coped, then one of us at least would be able to walk back to the hotel.

Re: nappies crystal we use pop-ins from babipur here which we love. Easy to wash at 40, quick to dry and bought about 20 with 4 or 5 night liners too. Really love them but didn't use them right at the start with baby poo being as explosive as it is!! Xmas Hmm

FloraPost · 17/12/2010 21:12

We are planning to follow Cupcakes's example and get down to that Nappy Ever After place. Will start with disposables though; one new thing at a time. Also, the NCT tutor this week passed round pictures of different types of baby poo Hmm - ick! I don't want that stuff hanging around a moment longer than necessary!

I slipped on a bit of ice today and landed bump down on the kerb. Luckily I was on the way to hospital for a scan anyway and Tiny Flora is unscathed. His legs are still pretty short but moving up the percentiles Smile. However, the pressure in the cord vessels is high which means blood flow from the placenta is reduced. If it's still like that in 2 weeks time (will be 36 weeks by then) they will get him out early. Yikes!

Crystylline · 18/12/2010 08:36

ouch flora. hope you're ok and glad Tiny Flora is. Falling over is scary and still can't work out my balance with bump.

thanks for all the info on nappies everyone. i bought some of the eco-nappies from waitrose yesterday as they were on a special and figured that I'd also need/want some disposables for the first few weeks.

running i agree with everyone else - go if you can and stay overnight. I do a round trip to my folks of 150 odd miles (4 hours) and frankly not sure I'd cope with the return on the same day pregnant/with baby or on my own.

so much snow here now. not going to be able to get anywhere! Hope my little bump behaves himself whilst it's like this outside. weather and traffic reports are yuck - even the big main roads are completely closed...eek.

Pootle78 · 18/12/2010 11:15

Glad all is ok Flora, everyone needs to be careful in this weather!

I'm with everyone else Running go if you can stay over as it will give you a chance to take baby somewhere quiet if needed.

Another one looking at washable nappies, we have only really seen bambino mio but there is someone locally who will come to your house after baby is born to try different types so sticking with the free disposable ones we have and then will see what happens

Have been prescribed iron tablets this week as am now anaemic so definitely need to start eating properly, it's difficult when I don't seem to be hungry at "normal" times and have spent the whole week eaing my lunch ion my car on the way to a different meeting!

No snow here, we must be the only place in the country who has had less than 2cm of snow since it all began back in November!

ZippyPippy · 18/12/2010 11:21

Well the snow has been coming down thick and fast this morning, think we're going to be snowed in this weekend which I don't really mind, feel like snuggling up and doing nothing!

Poor you flora must have given you a right shock I'm terrified of falling over in all this snow. Sorry to hear you have something else to worry about as well following your appointment, best get everything ready in case tiny flora makes an early appearance I guess.

Which reminds me, I really MUST pack that hospital bag, can't put it off much longer....

CupcakesHay · 18/12/2010 11:51

oooh flora thank god you were going to hospital and tiny flora is ok.

We've got snow too - so not going out til it's cleared. Plus i still have cold from hell. Literally no sleep last night and threw p a lovely combo of snot and water this morning. Poor bump keeps kicking me as I know he's tired and p-ssed off with my barking cough!

Sorry about the iron pootle - when do you finish work? Try adn eat parsley - even if you hate it - it's meant to have like a whole chunk of iron in one of it's untasty heads.

OOOh and my friend gave me her NCT folder with the delightful pictures of the poo stages - can't wait Grin

Off to die in a corner now - I swear if anyone offered me a lemsip I'd be really really tempted. Screw the vodka - give me lempsip!

Crystylline · 18/12/2010 12:17

pootle you can have some of our snow if you like... very happy to share! Grin

and have a little bit of guiness - full of iron and other useful things... in fact...

i'm going to walk to the pub for lunch and have a little guiness meself.

cupcakes so very glad I'm not doing NCT classes... poo stages? ew!

have you tried: manuka honey, lemon and grated ginger? always helps me when i have a grotty cold. sod the lemsip - horrible stuff.

CupcakesHay · 18/12/2010 17:22

I think my dad's braving it outside tomorrow to go food shopping, so I'll add the lemon and ginger to the list.... I just want it to go before Christmas now - as I'm so excited abotu my christmas dinner - and if i can't eat cos I feel ill, i'll be gutted!

Pootle78 · 18/12/2010 19:36

Still no snow Xmas Sad

Chrystl we were shown the same pictures as our "Parent Craft" Classes and was told by the midwife that most people have them attached to the fridge - eeuuww!! Xmas Hmm !!!

Pootle78 · 18/12/2010 19:37

Sorry Crystylline dyslexic fingers!

Crystylline · 18/12/2010 20:17

why, oh why, would you stick pictures of poo on your fridge?

what goes in must come out?

before and afters?

oh too gross!

CupcakesHay · 18/12/2010 20:32

Oooh - that's sick sticking them to your fridge! why?

I'm not doing NCT still trying to find local antenatal. My m/wife told me back in sept she'd put my name down - but she hasn't so been trying to figure out who i call about them - but not getting anywhere!

LadyBuzz · 19/12/2010 20:22

I have a pink nursery Grin I love it Xmas Grin.
It is however still full of piles of crap to sort through, and so is our bedroom now.
Can't wait to finish work though and start to get things organised Xmas Grin

CupcakesHay · 19/12/2010 21:01

Yay - PINK! Lovely LadyBuzz promise photos when it's all looking lovely and not full of piles!

I've just got my dad to bid for 2 things on ebay and won both - all my dad was whingeing "why does your baby need 2 mobiles" - tried patiently to explain one was a noisy movement type mobile and other was with lights nad lullabies.... plus - really who cares.

Also got the Tomy Sshh bee - which i played with at my friend's house with her baby and just LOVED it.

AmIGoingMad · 20/12/2010 12:25

Glad you're ok after your fall Flora! It's scary out there isn't it- I'm not the greatest on my feet in the snow anyway so with baby bump too my balance is all over the place anyway! And with the ice, balance doesn't even come into it!
Pics of poo hey?! We tried to get on NCT course but they were fully booked (and we tried to book months in advance!) so went to the NHS one but it was literally one class, for a few hours on a sat. It was useful but I feel like there wasn't enough time to cover everything and I've still got loads of questions!
I can't believe how quickly it's coming around now- I can't wait for my little one to be here but I'm so terrified of them getting here that I can't even put it into words! I know people do it every day but I've never done it before and I'm bricking it!!!!
Also had a wobbly moment today! Had booked hair appt months ago to get in with my hairdresser before Christmas and was thinking that it's my last pamper til baby makes an appearance. Hubby (who is being AMAZING!) drove me there but on the way the snow picked up and I got there just to go in and tell them I couldn't stay cos snow was getting so bad I didn't think my dad in law would be able to come out to get me home with the state of the roads. Disappointment combined with hormones and start of evil cold and I burst into tears there and then! So embarassing! And I have no hair appt for the forseeable future either!
Anyway- enough moaning from me!
I still haven't packed hospital bag but have made definite progress in getting stuff for it!
Not long til Christmas day now!!!

Crystylline · 20/12/2010 12:38

sat at home snowed in and had/having a show. oh joy!

phoned hospital and they don't want me to even attempt to get in unless i get other symptoms. air ambulance anyone?

so stuck here twiddling fingers, worrying and going ever so slightly mad!

ah well, at least i have a supply of chocolate.

x

AIGM huge sympathies. i've been staring at my grey roots for days getting all miffed and wishing I'd booked a hair appt.

maybe treat yourself at home with a big bubbly bath, tons of nice moisturiser and ask your lovely hubby for a foot massage.

it's all so DIY in the snow...

AmIGoingMad · 20/12/2010 12:53

Thanks crystylline!
How frustrating for you! Could MW get out to check on you? I'm sure you'll be fine but its always nice to get some reassurance. Also, if it does come to it then they seem to be mobilising lots of 4x4 drivers so you'll be able to get there!
My positive hat is back on!
Keep us posted and enjoy your chocolate- you've just inspired me to indulge in a bar of Dairy Milk! Smile

AmIGoingMad · 20/12/2010 12:56

Oo- meant to ask too:
Sorry if its a bit too personal but... waxing? hair removal creams? shaving? There, that's given you the chance to skip over if you don't want to know any more! Smile

Need to do something to sort things out down there but shaving isn't exactly practical now what with not being able to see past bump! And not sure if either of the other two are ok at this stage? any thoughts or pearls of wisdom for me?! x

CupcakesHay · 20/12/2010 13:01

Oh crap crystylline poor you! Saw Okehampton on local news - eeek.... what a day to get a show! How are you feeling now? Are you on your own or is someone with you? Like you said - at least you have chocolate Grin. Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing? OK?

Poor you amigoingmad - it's crap isn't it. Snow ruining everything. Maybe when it dies down you might be able to get to hairdressers before little one comes along?

I'm bricking it too.

And i was up throwing up with snot in the night and coughing and spent 2 hours listening to a hale storm! And i cried on phone to DH this morning as i'm soooooo sick of this cold and snot (sorry TMI!) I've got through 3 boxes of tissues in 2 dasy. how can i have so much snot? And i had temp last night. Anyhow - seeing Doc today - but reckon there's nothing he can do - and it's a good 5 mins walk to car and my mum's been out trying to clear ice - but apparently still awful!

Have decided if snow continues, as long as I make it to a hospital i don;t even care if DH doesn't get back here in time!

BubbaAndBump · 20/12/2010 13:35

Exciting crystylline - I had a show with DD#1 and she was born about 24 hrs later!! (although I know it can take longer) - keep us posted.

AIGM poor you - I went to try and book a hair appt today, they looked at me like I was loopy for even asking if there were any appts available. Hats for me for Christmas!!

Finished Christmas shopping this morning - got to Kingston at 9am and had finished by half ten - job done. Jubbly.

Feeling the pain now though, crampy and uncomfy :( But Christmas tree is decorated, fireplace is up, blind is up (in new room) and it all looks lovely. Just hoping my sis can fly in from Norway today - two flights cancelled so far... :(

OP posts:
Crystylline · 20/12/2010 13:54

MW is coming out tomorrow - roads are too crap for today and no other symptoms as yet. she said it could be up to two weeks, but she's not massively worried.

AIGM - waxing would prob be ok, wouldn't it? although the thought of even trying it makes me giggle - entertaining acrobatics...

would avoid removal creams - usually full of chemicals, so not sure that would be a good thing, and as for shaving... acrobatics + potential pain... not for me!

cupcakes get well soon. flu is crappy. hope you cuddle up warm and rest lots.

bubba you sound wonderfully organised. grats. i was hoping to do my xmas shopping on wednesday, but not sure if either baby or snow will permit right now. NVM, guess it will have to wait.

xmas plans are all messed up anyway - my folks can't get here and I can't get to them, so think i'll be marooned in devon. just been trying to make arrangements with friends in case we all end up stranded and can get together instead.

positive everything will turn out for the best... and besides, snow might be causing problems - but it's so pretty!

BubbaAndBump · 20/12/2010 14:16

Only organised because DDs are in nursery today, one set of friends coming tomorrow, family (snow permitting) coming on Weds, another set of friends coming on Thursday so it was today or never!

Just found out sis's flight's been cancelled again!! Imagine it's happpening to lots of us then! You're right though, when it's so pretty it doesn't matter too much Xmas Smile

Last week at work! Grin

Baby and I are busy helping ourselves to the tins of Roses around the office, although when baby started dancing like fury I figured we'd had enough so now am redressing the balance with a satsuma.

I've booked a hair appointment for Jan 22nd, am due on the 23rd so this may be wildly optimistic but figured I might as well have something to do!

Hope the poorly peeps get well soon, we don't have snow although it's really cold and icy, I'd rather it stays like this.

CupcakesHay · 20/12/2010 15:25

Good no baby yet crystylline though won't be long will it. It is exciting - though Sad about your parents - but you're right does look so pretty. Meant to be a little better this way tomorrow - so fingers crossed. Pleased you won't be alone at Christmas either.

Back from docs - luckily flu not on chest... can only recommend paracetomol. But my parents are Grin happy cos i have touch of larignytius - so no talking for me!

bubba v. organised, have to agree. I'm awaiting an amazon order (yeah right) and then that's my shopping done...

And good on you running! finally finishing work!!!! And love your optimism on the hair appt. Although I keep telling my baby I won't see him til 1st Feb.

And finally got antenatal sorted - 16th Jan Hmm so def can't have baby til I get a few "breathing" lessons out fo the way!
