New trimester, new thread. Here's to us becoming grumpy, impatient, fat and uncomfy while counting down the days... :o [hhmm] :o

Ooh LadyB that's so exciting having an actual date. I'm trying not to focus on my due date as DD was 9 days late but its so difficult to not count down the weeks/ days. Fuzzy Jnr 2 seems determined to head but its way out at the moment which makes for an interesting sensation!
Just hoping that this snow doesn't get too bad as I'm supposed to be going to stay with my parents for a couple of days with DD next week and if I don't make it won't see them or my brother until after Christmas which would be a shame. My dad is stressing that going to see them 4 weeks before my due date is too close, not sure what he thinks will happen, sure there will be some warning and time to get to a hospital if required. But dad has turned into a right worrier these days, hey ho, we shall just wait and see as I'm going nowhere if the weather is rubbish.

Hmm - went to see the anaesthesiologist today. He was ver ynice, but checked my veins, and my spine. Yep - have bad veins (as i knew) so we'll have to get a drip put in pretty much as i walk through the door) -- and an epidural could take over an hour to get in - if they even manage it at all - because it's really hard to find the tips of my spinal bits. So i'm feeling a bit Sad about it - although putting on whole brave face for parents - and know there's nothing that can be done... but still!

Although he did make me laugh by saying - if you have a strong birthing partner you might not need drugs... he's not met my DH!

And other thing he said wsa "you're at a strong risk from DVT after birth" (which i knew, but i'm careful with when i fly) - so don't fly for 3 months! So then my mum started fixating on that. I can't stay here for 3 months afetr the birth - i just can't SadSadSad

I mean i was kind of expecting a more difficult birth because of my weight, but I just assumed that epidurals would be ok - as I always knew general anaesthetic would be problem!

On plus side but a nasal aspirator as i'm paranoid about having to suck snot from baby if it's snotty (ha ha - bet all you already mum's are secretly tutting saying I won't need one!) and had a lovely chocolate Santa from M&S! Grin

Crystylline · 15/12/2010 16:31

oh cupcakes... that sucks!

good to have all the info and advice - guess you'll see what happens and then have to make a call a little later down the line. Good to be prepared... but not the best news.

mmm... chocolate santas.

fuzzy I'm fretting about the weather too, as are my family - long travelling distances involved. trying to just keep calm and hoping there'll be a good clear day for either of us to travel.

LadyBuzz · 15/12/2010 17:37

cupcakes they tend to give you worst case scenario just in case (so they won't get sued, sad but very very true!!) so hopefully it will go swimmingly.
Sad re the flying for 3 months though, it might not come to that.

fuzzy my SIL came to my wedding 10 days before her DD was born, as you say hospitals are quite widespread so you should be fine. Enjoy your visit!

Off to the MW again tomorrow.

3 days left at work - I cannot wait!!

FloraPost · 15/12/2010 18:50

Xmas Sad Cupcakes. OTOH, the chances of needing an instrumental delivery are higher if you have a epidural and you can't really mobilise with one. Fingers crossed you'll be one of those lucky types who gets through on G&A anyway.

Xmas Envy LadyB, I have another 17 days at work. Humph. (contemplates stupid decision)

BubbaAndBump · 15/12/2010 19:17

Wow, missed a lot over past few days. Desperately trying to finish things off at work as I finish on Friday but have really busy days the next couple of days, still, out for my 'leaving' do tonight so can't be too bad.
Poor you Flora having so long left!! You can take earlier maternity leave if you want to you know.

flora - eeek - 17 day - but just think - you can be on here all smug towards the end of everyone's maternity leave with your whole extra 17 days at the end! Wink

Feeling a bit better now - and yeah - think you're all right - hopefully just worse case scenario and hopefully G&A will do! (rather G&T!) - nothing i can do about it - and at end of day, as long as my boy's OK, that's the main thing!

fuzzy & crystylline fingers crossed on weather front... although not looking too clever from what i've seen on the news tonight. Know what you mean about wanting to see your folks - it'll be a shame to miss out on that cos of stupid snow - especially for your little girl.

bubba - nice to see you - I figured you'd been busy being end of term and everything - still not long for you, and the other teachers and you too ladyb - and then you'll be on mumsnet as much as me!

(although STILL have my assignment to do - so if i'm on here much longer - tell me off ok?!)

BTW - bought liquid talc today as i was intrigued - but it seems lovely and smooth on skin - might end up keeping it for myself!

Pootle78 · 15/12/2010 22:30

Running don't worry about work, mine haven't bothered with cover and I have also been asked about going in, in January as part of my "Keeping in Touch" days - urrrm I don't think so!!!

5 days at work for me! (Wished I'd left last week!) Someone let slip that it is my leaving lunch on Monday so better turn up!!!

Had our last Parent Craft class today and feel even more unprepared, I think we may be missing some major essentials so need to find a list on the internet and check. Also got told of by the midwife for not eating properly as something showed up in my urine sample - oops!!!

Anyway ...

Grin I can imagine you singing pootle!

LadyBuzz · 16/12/2010 08:25

pootle I have no mat cover either, in fact they have asked me to run it to nothing next week and my job will just not be done for a year - Makes me really hopeful that they will need me back then Xmas Grin

I'm starting to feel crappy now I can't breathe/sleep/get comfortable/tolerate my own children Wink.
Roll on January!

DH is going to paint the room on Sunday though so I can start to get organised woohoo!

RunningKatie · 16/12/2010 09:28

Morning all

7 working days to go! Grin Am doing my best not to get stressed about work, it won't be my problem after next Friday, and I really don't know whether I'll come back or not.

Had my leaving lunch on Tuesday, and then basket of presents yesterday.

Tried listening to a relaxation cd this morning, baby was having none of it and started doing a dance. I sense that they are going to be a little bit of a handful! :)

LadyBuzz · 16/12/2010 10:47

Back from the MW, Blood and protein in urine again, it came back clear last time so hopefully it will be nothing.
There are no clinics now under the first week in Jan Hmm so I will more then likely only have 1 more appointment before she comes.

running just concentrate on next week when you no longer have to care Xmas Grin

ZippyPippy · 16/12/2010 13:26

cupcakes I'm intrigued by these things you keep finding I've never heard of - nasal aspirator and liquid talc!?

Sorry about your appointment, sounds like they were being a big negative about everything, try not to worry too much.

I'm not at work today and just tried icing my first ever christmas cake, was most stressful and there is icing everywhere!! Why didn't I just buy one!?

Laughing at those of you being up all hours, I'm also starting to have real sleeping issues but am hanging onto the fact that after next week I can sleep whenever I like Xmas Grin well until baby comes anyway....

BubbaAndBump · 16/12/2010 15:52

I was up at 3 and decided to watch a programme on Beeb 3 about an illness which zonks the sufferers out for about 2 weeks at at a time Xmas Shock - not funny to watch though when you're desperate for sleep!

zippy don't worry about nasal aspirator etc, you'll become obsessed with getting bogies out of noses in various different ways of your own making!! Xmas Grin Xmas Hmm

LadyB very jealous your little one will be here in 4 weeks' time or so - I too am massively fed up with everything. DDs have taken it in turns to chuck up over the past few nights and now waking up at 3 because they want cuddles (like when they're sick)! Soooo tired...

OP posts:
LadyBuzz · 16/12/2010 16:06

bubba how crap for you I have half a day left to avoid the bugs going round with the DSs and I am keeping everything crossed they don't get anything nasty.
Hope you catch up on your sleep!

CupcakesHay · 16/12/2010 19:32

zippy i'll probably never use half the stuff i've got - but the liquid talc feels soooo lovley and smooth! And have to say bubba my friend said the same about beoming obsessed with snot - which is why I figure my £7 investmnet on the "snot sucker" is worth it!

and can't believe bubba that you are sleeping so badly - poor you and your DCs!

And how did the finished cake look zippy?

Hope you are all being spoilt at work on your last days.... well, apart from begging you to come in and help once your mat leave starts!!!

I managed to eat half a chocolate orange earlier Blush - does that count as one of my 5 a day?

ladybuzz what colour is the nursery going to be? ours is hopefully being painted pale blue or beige next week... and i keep reminding DH to ask them to put the lampshade up too - as we're not allowed to do it. Guarantee i'll get back in March and it still won't be painted or the lampshade won't be up! Grin

Oh - and ordered my nappies today - went for Flip - but going to get new born pampers for the first couple of weeks with the mec poo or whatever it's called! :)

LadyBuzz · 16/12/2010 19:36

cupcakes it will be pink, I'm very excited. We have the paint now it just needs to go on the walls. SIL has made my bedding so I want to get it all in place to get the full effect!

CupcakesHay · 16/12/2010 20:00

You'll have to post pics ladybuzz! I bet the bedding will be lovely - there's something so nice about having something homemade that you know you can't get elsewhere!

Are your other kids excited?

Crystylline · 16/12/2010 21:55

lady buzz my mum has been making all the moses basket and cot bedding for me. it's lovely!! so nice to have homemade pressies.

cupcakes gah! Nappies! have a few pampers new born, but have crushing guilt about how awful they are for the environment. must buy terry towelling or reusable pronto.

what made you choose Flip and does anyone else have suggestions? how many, how to look after them? etc

baby suddenly very wriggly over the last few days and still waiting for urine test results!

oh... and the snow has arrived. 2cms in the last hour! christmas-schishmas.

CupcakesHay · 17/12/2010 10:16

How's the snow today crstylline? - we've had a bit here - but nowhere near like what you'll have.

What about everyone else? Snowy winter wonderlands or lovely and clear?

I decided on flips originally Blush cos of the pretty colours - but then I saw someone at a shop in London and when and talked through all the types, pros and cons and did investigating online - and that's how i decided on flip. They have down side - a little bit of leakage at first, but then it kind of stabilises and they're fine. Plus I'm not working so i have the time to wash them - but nothing special on the washing front - you just wash at 40 and every now and then do a 60 wash.

I got 12 wraps and loads of inserts. Best deal I found was with a company called Stratford Nappies.

last day of school for most of you right? bet you cannot wait to get your feet up with a ncie cup of tea and unwrap some of those chocolate oranges the kids have given you Grin - I swear the chocolate gifts at Christmas is one of the main reasons I'm training to be a teacher! Grin

Crystylline · 17/12/2010 10:32

thanks for the info cupcakes. I'll have look into the companies.

Found that there's a Devon Real Nappy network: recycledevon.org/reuse/why-real-nappies.php

they do free trial packs, so i've signed up for one.

and the snow is pretty (but not practical). We've got a few inches so far, but lots more due this afternoon/evening.

Just about to brave the shops briefly for a few supplies, then off to the sofa with some DVDs!

RunningKatie · 17/12/2010 12:37

No snow here, although cold this morning. We're off to do the hospital tour tomorrow so it can snow after that.

Baby is very quiet today, even the desk isn't getting the usual abuse from them.

I did have something else to put but for the life of me now can't remember what it was! Blush

Fuzzywood · 17/12/2010 12:48

Snowing here now too, it was like a blizzard half an hour ago but has calmed down a bit. Supposed to be going to DH's work family Christmas party later so hoping it doesn't get too much worse. Had a really busy day yesterday then slept terribly so absolutely shattered and willing DD to have a nap so I can put my feet up for a bit.
Bubba hope your girls are feeling better.
Cupcakes your much better than me, I didn't even consider re-usables first time or this time, though a couple of friends use them and haven't had any issues, think they use disposables at night though.
Oh no pitch black again and blizzard is back, grrrr really want to go to parent's next week. Oh well, couple of days for it to get better. Only problem is that we live in a village at the top of a hill so even if i get down in one piece getting back up again could prove tricky!
Hope everyone else is well x

RunningKatie · 17/12/2010 15:13

Oh, have remembered......

How practical is it to think of going to a wedding 150 miles from home with a 9 week old baby? The bride said that the reception venue would give us a chair for the car seat to sit on, but I'm thinking that having the pram is much better for baby.

Wondering whether it's just too much too soon, DP thinks we could feasibly drive there & back in a day. Bride is my friend from Uni, I've already declined the hen do and DP really wants to help me to attend the wedding itself but I'm just not sure how practical it all is.

CupcakesHay · 17/12/2010 17:32

hi running I reckon you might be alright with wedding - but not sure about the whole getting there and back in one day - can you not stay over? And def agree about the pram rather than car seat. I went to a wedding in Oct and my friend's baby was 3 months old - they were staying at the reception venue, so at least they had somewhere a bit more private and comfortable to do breast feeding and have a bit of quiet time. Maybe one of the other already mums can offer more advice? problem is, you kind of want to say "can we see how it goes" but then the bride might need to know in advance. have you spoken to her?

Snow snow everywhere.... my poor brother organised limo for all his staff at his recruitment company in Cardiff - plan was to go to Bath, nice restaurant and bar then limo back - but they've been stuck in traffic in cardiff for last 2 hours. Best laid plans Angry and he's so gutted. I bet the snow ruins loads of plans this Christmas.

Fuzzy did you make it to your party? And how far is your parent's place?

I'm worried (ish!) about MIL coming on Xmas Eve - she's getting train from London to Exeter - and the train gets in at 15.30 - so as my dad says - we'll hit Xmas Eve traffic - adn if it snows - snow traffic. Hmm...

Oh - and as for the nappies - I'd NEVER be bothered if i was working... it's only cos I'm not working.
