Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

OP posts:

So wonderful to hear all the stories and Boy!, how many boys do we have! We decided not to find out ours - though listening to everyone's stories now - I wish i had.

Really looking for the Christmas break and am hoping to use some of that time to look around for baby stuff.

I also need to start planning the baby shower (which in us Indians happens before the baby is born). So there's going to be a small religious ceremony and I think I'll organise some games, etc before we have lunch. Am looking for venues in South West London that do good Indian food. Any suggestions? Also, anyone else having a baby shower (what are your customs?). Please send some ideas!

I think i felt the first kick yesterday. Was so excited but when DH tried to put his hand on tummy - baby stopped kicking....waiting for it to hopefully happen again tonight.

Cyclebump · 09/12/2010 15:04

If only you were northwest, the Punjabi Kitchen in Greenford is totally delicious. Sigh.

I think my sister's hoping to plan me a baby shower (I thought they were always before the baby comes). We had a mini family one for my cousin when she was pg with her first and she said it was one of the loveliest things people had ever done for her.

Petalouda · 09/12/2010 18:18

I know nothing about baby showers, but the Mirchi in Bude is the best curry in the southwest, guaranteed! (We've been known to drive for over an hour just to eat there!)

Petalouda · 09/12/2010 18:19

Although you'll probably find a place just as good a little closer to London!

happycamel · 09/12/2010 19:58

Hi, the Cinnamon Club is fantasic www.cinnamonclub.com if pricey. If all else fails have a look on Toptable or head down to Brick Lane - my DH and his colleagues work near there and aim to go to a different curry house every Friday for lunch. This started as a new year's resolution and they're still doing it!

I think we're having a baby shower after the birth. I think they're more frequently done before but as I had 3 brothers who all died before they were 9 days all my family is a bit Hmm about having one before. I feel it's like having a birthday party a week early and it would be nice for everyone to meet a baby rather than see a bump. We're going to have afternoon tea when baby is about a week old and I'm just going to sit on the sofa and let my DH and mum deal with the guests!

MrsWajs · 09/12/2010 20:49

Hi girls, just droppng by to say scan went well today and I'm also bucking the April trend and having a girl!! :)

MuffinMouse · 09/12/2010 21:41

Had my scan today and it's another for little team pink!

cyclebump am v jealous of your iCandy Cherry. I think they're gorgeous.

DS (aged 4) came home last night upset that the other boys were mean about his nativity costume. (Everyone to be dressed as an innkeeper). He had decided that he was going to be a spaceman no matter what. (He did agree to add a cloak to tone it down). But having got some teasing about it, said I was right and he needed something different (bless). Rushed to Sainsbury's to get the last shepherd's outfit - failed, then tesco - nothing. Sent DH on quest on route from work. Nada. Instead I spent last night madly sewing to turn old tunic and pj bottoms into a nativity-esque outfit. He seemed pleased with it. All ready for the dress rehearsal.

Meanwhile DD1 devastated that she couldn't be an angel in her year's nativity as she had a stupidly high fever. Cheered up when she heard new baby sister on the way. Wants us to call her Seraphina and SeeSee for short. (Don't think DH will fall for it - even with her fabulous eyelash fluttering).

BeetleBaby · 10/12/2010 07:55

My BOOBS have started leaking!! Shock I knew it would happen at some point but for some reason assumed it would be nearer the end of pregnancy rather than the middle. Particularly ewww given that it isn't particularly warm on a morning and cold patches over my nipples isn't appreciated!

I'm glad to see the number of girls is start to creep up! It does make me wish a little bit that we'd found out now.

MuffinMouse I'm sure your DS is a very cute inn keeper, though the idea of having a spaceman at the nativity did remind me of the film Love Actually where they have a lobster and an octopus and goodness knows what else so that all the kids get a part! I do love watching kids nativity plays, I'm looking forward to having an excuse to make costumes in a few years time Smile

kittycatcat · 10/12/2010 10:30

All ok here. The aches have kicked in. I have hip ache at the moment, and am ordering new clothes today as expanding. Scan is on Tuesday and I CANT WAIT! I have Monday and Tuesday off Xmas Grin

JoEW · 10/12/2010 11:17

crazymiracle Ma Goa in Putney is really good www.ma-goa.com/, not too pricey and more of a restaurant than a curry house so ideal for a baby shower. I organised one for a friend of mine recently and we just did wine and nibbles and I got some baby themed cupcakes from www.cupcakestogo.co.uk - the girl who does them is a friend of a friend or a friend and I swear they are the nicest cakes ever, I had them for my wedding too and everyone raved about them. And we bought some baby pressies and had a pedicure each, but that might be harder in a restaurant!

Great news on the girls! Congrats to all who've had scans. I had another one last night as they couldn't get a look at the spine on Tuesday. Was SO tempted to ask the sex but I didn't. So that was the last chance! They showed me the 3D scan too, which is just wierd! Lots of waving from baby and some cross kicks when being prodded. I do love the scans.

Happy Friday everyone. I am so looking forward to getting home and sitting on the sofa watching Strictly. And I used to be such a party animal. How things change.

beckie90 · 10/12/2010 15:48

congratulations to those who have had scans :)

had avery stressful 2 days, been in hospital as ive had some blood loss with mucus i was panacking thinking i was going to go into labour, ive had some swabs done and get results in a few days.

hope everyone is well

kittycatcat · 10/12/2010 16:03

Oh no Beckie you must be so worried. Hope you are ok. hugs x

architien · 10/12/2010 16:14

Hi there,
Had scan at 21 weeks yesterday with my husband and 18 month son. The baby was actually waving. Spine seems to be facing outwards. Lady said everything seemed fine. I've not let myself believe they were coming until yesterday. I didn't find out if the baby is a boy or girl because with our first my husband announced his name as he was born and we thought this was a nice thing to do. Anyway back to attempt to potty train...:(

beckie90 · 10/12/2010 17:38

thanks kittykat. i am worried but hospital thinks things are ok and its just one of those things that happens.
congratulations architien :)

Liv77 · 10/12/2010 20:58

Beckie Fingers crossed for you, the hospitals usually give you the worst case scenario so if they think it's OK you will hopefully be fine.

Good luck with the potty training Architien. My DS is now 25 months and still in nappies, he will use the potty before bathtime for wees but if you try to do it any other time he refuses or on the rare occasion he will has to strip naked first.Blush

I'm going to try properly when I'm on holiday after Christmas and do the no nappy or pants take him to the loo every half hour routine and see how that goes. If that fails I'm going to try again when I start maternity leave which is a month before his 3rd birthday. Ideally I'd like to aim for only one child in nappies but my pants deadline is by next September when he moves up a year at pre-school. Grin

(sorry if this sounds like a potty-training thread hijack)

caramellokoalalover · 11/12/2010 10:23

beckie90 hope there's nothing to worry about.

Potty-training...sigh...I've been given advice to get DS out of nappies before this bub arrives, but he's only just turned 2 and I don't know if he's ready for it. Not sure if I should force the issue or just be lazy and then regret it in 6 mths time!

I had my scan yesterday and all's well. Didn't find out the sex but it was so hard knowing that the sonographer knew and could tell you with one little word. Grin

Poodle82 · 11/12/2010 11:10

Just catching up! Congratulations on all the recent scans. Beckie really hope everything comes back fine from your results. Well done to the organised people who already have names decided (and excellent names too!).

I had my 24 week GP check up this week - heard the heartbeat again and everything else was fine too. Feeling more relaxed the further along I'm getting, although impatient to meet my little son.

JustKeepSparkling · 11/12/2010 13:13

Beckie - hope all is ok.

Re potty-training, DS1 was a late one and was only ready at 3.9.
Life with 2 in nappies i have to say is no problem, ok so sometimes you get 'the double' Xmas Grin but so much easier than baby in nappies and an only-just toilet-user.

And IMO, you really can't force kids to do it, they are ready or not, all you can do is try, if it doesn't work, leave it, come back to it in a few months.

architien · 11/12/2010 17:23

I think you're all right. I have had to clean up three wees and one "the other" today alone. I think I've fallen victim to MIL chaos syndrome. "Oh you're having them very close together aren't you...you should get him out of nappies long before the birth". So on the one hand she thinks it too early to expect him to use a potty but seeing as I'm "pregnant so soon" she thinks I should just get on with it. I was raised by my gran who had my brother out of nappies by 18 months, but things were different then, so I have been feeling rather inadequate on this subject with the new baby on the way. Must admit to almost exploding with tears when DS had an accident and the dog promptly thought the most appropriate action was to join in on the same spot straight after. Ok ladies, sorry about the MIL/older sibling toilet baby related topic. Promise to try to talk of more pleasant things.

architien · 11/12/2010 17:36

Ok I did have a daft lassie question which may make me look silly but I'm going to ask everyone anyway. You know when you have your 20 week scan picture..is my skin at the top of the picture and which way is erm down.....I've spent ages looking at it thinking I understood which way the baby is facing and positioned but now I'm doubting myself. The scan time was very short with lady saying everything was ok and I was that relieved that I didn't ask any questions. Also, I'm ordinarily relaxed, calm, easy-going and gentle natured but goodness I'm finding I'm really having to control my temper and bite my tongue just now. I almost erupted over the sponge not being in the right place at the kitchen sink last night. It occured to me to walk around the house and list everything that wasn't exactly where it should be and email it to DH. I didn't do it but I surprised myself at just having the very thought. Very daft.

beckie90 · 11/12/2010 17:41

thank you everyone. had no bleeding since thursday morning so fingers crossed.
my little boy is doing ok with potty training hes been going on potty on toilet since july so 19 months old but will only do a wee on them lol. still going through 6 nappies through night though so darent risk taking them off him all together

JustKeepSparkling · 11/12/2010 17:44

Architien - tbh i don't think you can tell from the scan pic, think they turn the scanner thing around to get the head on the left regardless of how the baby is positioned.
Eg my baby was breech (head up) & back-to-back but the scan photo is just the standard head on the left lying down baby.

All my scan pics of all 3 DC have been the same & DS1 was def head down all the time.

Sassy20 · 11/12/2010 22:58

Hi everyone,
I'm new on here. Baby is due 6th April and if scan is correct I'm bucking the trend with a girl.

Basic info - 35 yrs old from Leeds - first baby and very excited.

Have definitely started feeling the baby move over last couple of weeks. Suffering from back pain when sitting down and not sleeping brilliantly either but guessing all of that's normal.

Xmas Smile
Petalouda · 12/12/2010 10:45

Morning all,

After a night of no sleep, there's nothing I like more than to zone out in front of the hollyoaks omnibus whilst playing with numbers. (Ok, I'm just procrastinating).

A while ago, someone looked at the stats thread and came up with some interesting highlights. I've had a play with them this morning and here's the updated news:

We have 52 ladies.
The average age is 30, but the mode (most common) is 29. Although the ages range from 20-39.

Most people are on their 1st baby (55%), with 21% having their 2nd and 24% having their 3rd.

65% of people (who have specified) are having their babies in hospital, whereas 22% have opted for a midwife led unit, and 15% are having their babies at home.

And I made a map (yep, I really am avoiding planning & cleaning!) of our locations and sex of babies. And yes, there is only 1 pink marker on there!
www.zeemaps.com/198733 (it centres on Chelsea, you'll have to zoom out to see our distribution)

Also, looks like there's a massive party going on in Kingston in April!

[I'm sure there are more girl babies on this thread, but I've gone from the stats thread for now, so there's a lot of yellow unknowns]
I'll find myself a real hobby now! Blush

AprilMeadow · 12/12/2010 11:04

Yes I am alive and on the thread....

What about people on 3+ children?? Also am on the stats thread but not positioned or coloured in....

Got missed off the last time as well :(
