Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

kurlyvoice · 21/10/2010 17:55

Evening all, thank goodness tomorrow is the last day before half term (as kurly instantly gives away her profession!). Have put my stats on the shiny new list and it is lovely to see my EDD in print. [hgrin]

I am also suffering from the 4am wake up and not get back to sleep malarkey which is totally rubbish when I have a manic day at school to survive. Was hoping that it might ease off now that I'm not worrying so much about whether there is a baby in there and as I'm 14+5 today, but not yet!

However, it has been wonderful to tell our family and friends so that's been keeping me going - every email/phonecall/text just makes me [hsmile].

Wish I thought that I was feeling the baby move but I don't think I can even pretend that there's anything detectable going on yet. But it might be my first-timer status...

LisMcA · 21/10/2010 18:32

polarbear I was at the "too much cake" clinic too on Tuesday. The only scary person was the dietcian, who looked like she had never seen a cake in her life never mind eaten one! She must be so miserable. [hwink]

The consultant and the midwife were both lovely though and it's them I'll be seeing the most of. They were really positive and took into account that I'd lost quite a bit of weight before we were expecting. Infact I've lost 4kilos since my booking appointment (not quite sure where from mind you, not boobs belly or bum) mostly down to my after dinner sickness! I'm getting some fasting blood tests done next week. Nothing to eat after midnight they told me! Considering I'm in bed most nights by 8.30 I don't think that will be too much of a problem!!

SaltedPretzels thanks for the clothing advice, I'm off to spend my babies inheritance shop on ebay![hgrin]

lowra · 21/10/2010 20:18

Hi everyone

I keep getting funny feelings in my tummy too but not sure if I am imagining it, or if it's just wind. I know I definitely have wind Grin.

So is everyone developing a bump?

BeetleBaby · 21/10/2010 21:14

Hello all, and good work on the new threads! [hsmile]

I'm cream crackered once again, but then Thursday is my loooooong day as I have Brownies which means a two bus jaunt across the city in order to get home, and me trying not to fall asleep before I get home!

I had a horrible dream last night (I've noticed my dreams have got much more vivid) and managed to wake myself up with tears pouring down my face! Was very strange, and suffice to say I didn't get back to sleep.

I keep thinking I can feel my LO but it now seems so long since the 'real-ness' of the 12 week scan that I'm starting to think it's all in my head... Oh Hum, guess I'll just have to wait until next MW appt on Nov 2 (was meant to be this week for 16wk check but appointments were booked solid Sad

Right, I need to do a quick tidy up before PIL comes to visit for the weekend!

Night all

JustKeepSwimming · 22/10/2010 07:43

Lowra - i've had a bump for ages, no stomach muscles, lol! (and baby 3 in 5 years i suppose).

Beetle - that's so funny i had the same thought that i'd imagined it all too. Funny what tricks the mind tries to play on you, i mean i have the scan pics, i can feel movements, i have a bump & achy hips etc, what more evidence do i need? Grin

Liv77 · 22/10/2010 13:02

I need to rant - please humour me

I have just returned from a 2 hour stint on the AN ward. I had my 16 week check on Wednesday and it turns out the urine sample from my previous booking app, two weeks prior to that came back positive for GBS. The midwife asked if anyone had contacted me about taking antobiotics - NO they effing well hadn't. Angry. I also told her on Wed that during the past few days I was having some difficulty passing urine especially during the early hours when you wake up busting to go, couldn't always go and sometimes got a bit of blood instead on wiping. She tried to brush off that I hadn't been contacted about the antiB's with a "well it might have passed out of your system now",(I somehow doubt that as the symptoms were worsening Hmm "we'll see what this sample says and phone you at the weekend if we need too, just give us a ring if you have anymore bleeding".

I really hope this midwife isn't on duty when I'm in labour. She didn't even introduce herself and had no ID on apart from a "Community Midwife" polo shirt and also managed to leave a bruise the size of a 10p when she took my bloods.
I had the same problem with bleening/no urine last night so phoned and spoke to a lovely midwife this morning who advised me to go in for a check. She couldn't have been more helpful, chased up my results from this week, confirmed I have a UTI and phoned my GP to sort out some AntiB's.

Apologies if TMI but thank you, I feel much better now for sharing. Smile

Jaylar · 22/10/2010 13:30

Hi all

Not checked in for a while but don't feel that much has changed in 6 weeks. I'm still in that limbo stage between first scan and feeling regular movements that seems to be lasting a year this time around. So I totally get the not feeling pregnant thing for most of the time.

I've decided not to bother with any tests which I gather is unusual given my midwife's reaction. But I have a close friend who was given odds of 1:10 for a Downs child and she had a healthy boy after she stressed for 6 months about it. And another friend who had 1:800 odds as well as a nuchal etc. and her little boy was born with Downs in July. And they're both gorgeous. So I decided I didn't see the point in giving myself a load of grief over a test that seems to be so inaccurate. But I'm no medical professional so maybe they were flukes.

Been feeling a bit stressed over the budget announcements as DP is a civil servant and my contract is almost certainly not going to be extended on account of my employers being sex discriminating b**tards. I guess there are thousands of people in a worse position but it doesn't feel like the most sensible time to have a baby.

On a purely practical note any home birthers out there explored where in the hell you get a birthing pool from? I'm assuming Argos and the like don't do them. I suppose you just google around but haven't been that organised about it yet. I also want a TENS machine as it was the difference between mind numbing pain and just very painful last time around. The supersticious bit of me (99%) feels it's too early to be looking into this but April will be here before we know it.

Liv77 · 22/10/2010 13:52

I borrowed a TENS machine from a friend last time, but unfortunatley she has now left the area so I'll need to find one too. I found it really good for the early stages at home, gave me something to concerntrate on whilst bouncing on my B Ball.

Forgot to say that at my trip to AN this morning after a few tense minutes of looking for a heartbeat it was found and the midwife said baby was doing loads of movements and could I feel them (umm sort of maybe) Grin

Try the NCT for birthing pools if they don't do them i'm sure they could point you in the right direction.

kittycatcat · 22/10/2010 14:30

Sorry you had such a crap time Liv and i hope you dont see her again. Yay to the nice one tho! x

crazymiracle · 22/10/2010 14:43

Hello Ladies,

Its been a long time since I posted - work's been a bit too hectic. But I have been reading everyone's posts during lunch hour (which sometimes I wish we had 2 of!).

Had my 16 week appointment earlier this week and got to hear the baby's heartbeat. 154! Quite a runner! No proper bump as yet - still feeling a bit fat. Have felt a few butterflies - dont know what qualifies as a movement!

I've been hopeless the last few weekes and havent made the time to organise the house or even shop for maternity clothes. I bought a trouser from Mamas and Papas a few weeks ago, which i finally started wearing this week! Its still a bit big so - I have to wait at every few steps to pull them up! Shock

I've also been having a lot of vivid dreams these days. Here goes one - but first you have to know some background reality bits - my parents were having their house (in Mumbai) painted and mom mentioned yesterday that she was having the house cleaned; I've been working with this partner at work (who's really very stern and i'm scared about what i'm doing); we had a guest home last weekend (who requested me to make some chai - indian tea).

With this going on in my head, here goes my dream: I was at my parents' place in Mumbai, she had a couple of people helping her clean the house (water on the floor, bathrooms, everywhere) and my partner from work rings the bell, walks in the door, looks at the file of documents (that i was actually supposed to give him this morning), is upset with the mess in the house and asks for chai! There you go - complete hotch potch!

That was enough to wake me up at 4AM = but the only gupside was that I mananged to shop for some maternity clothes online! :) waiting for them to arrive!

Its my first DC - so may be a bit behind with the planning - but was a bit suprised that people are already cot shopping! Do we have to do baby shopping all so soon? Gosh, i'm going to need lessons on what a baby needs.....this is scary. Confused

JustKeepSwimming · 22/10/2010 14:59

Liv - how horrid, hope you don't see her again!

birthpoolinabox.com is where i got mine, very good :)

(maybe this time i'll actually give birth in it Hmm)

Crazymiracle - no you don't need to be shopping yet:)

Jaylar - i declined the tests too, the sonographer was quite put out!

lucielooo · 22/10/2010 16:04

kittycat, I got the same just said 'pleased to say no high risk' but didn't give a percentage (am in Essex too) I've got a 16wk appt with the midwife next week so I might ask her then. Or I may just leave it, not high risk is fine by me and I'm not sure the stats will help in terms of overall levels of worry!

lucielooo · 22/10/2010 16:17

liv77 that sounds like rubbish care I'd be so hacked off. I haven't met my widwife yet (will do so on weds) as she was away so had my booking appt at the hospital. It does seems to make such a big difference it's horrible if you get a rubbish one. My sister loathed the midwife she had for most of her very long and difficult labour and I am sure that made it much worse for her.

At least you know there's a nice one as well!

Daisy17 · 22/10/2010 16:24

Oh the blessed relief of half term!! Saw midwife today too, she's lovely, and both baby and I are doing very well, apparently, so I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy. Little heartbeat was loud and clear, made me feel a bit weepy. Grin Really hoping I feel something soon (16 weeks) but it's my first and MW said I've probably still got another few weeks to wait..... The only shopping I've been tempted to do, crazymiracle, was when I saw they do Miffy slippers for newborns at Mothercare, !!!!!! but I'm holding out superstitiously! (Btw, given the new thread name, no sex here for yonks, have just been sooo knackered and achey, glad to hear it's not just me.... Blush DP being lovely about it and giving me lots of gorgeous cuddles instead. Smile)

kittycatcat · 22/10/2010 16:26

Hi Lucieloo just saw you're Essex too. My mate wanted me to go your way. Is it Johns? She slated Basildon hosp. Nice. I know what you mean. I am happy enough.

crazymiracle i am an impatient shopaholic which is why i am shopping already! We are getting the nursery stuff in the christmas salees tho!

Cyclebump · 22/10/2010 16:33

Ouch! Have just sworn in the office as I sneezed and pulled what felt like a ligament in my pelvis. It's twinged before when I sneeze but that was very painful. Ooh.

kittycatcat · 22/10/2010 16:35

I hate that Cyclebump happens loads!

Cyclebump · 22/10/2010 16:40

I just wish I hadn't said 'F*ck me that hurt!' before realising I was in my (open-plan and very quiet) office.

lucielooo · 22/10/2010 16:43

kittycat St Johns is no more from this month, it's all moving to a new maternity unit at Broomfield. Had my scan at St Johns and it's a lovely little place so seems a shame but Broomfield is nearer me anyway. But if you're in Basildon Broomfield might be a bit far anyway as it's North Chelmsford (unless my geography is rubbish as I'm an honorary Essex girl and fairly new to living there!)

kittycatcat · 22/10/2010 16:48

Lol. I am Billericay so Basildons my nearest and fine by me. :)

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/10/2010 10:13

Haven't been on here for a few days, I just can't seem to find the time at the mo.

Anyway as always I have loads to say!

Again thanks everyone for mentioning ds1. It is enough that you acknowledged what I said - a lot of people try to brush over it.

Polarbear - you do know you don't have to attend these clinics if you don't want to. They sound like humiliation on a bloody stick tbh. If you know you are eating as well as can be at the moment, then what more can you do? Going to a clinic won't change that - unless of course you find it helps you. Of course the fasting test is a different story, but just know that you don't have to go along with everything they say.

jaylar - I've got this birth pool I'm sure ours inflates and fills in about 25 mins. I'm 5'10" and it's deep enough to kneel in and still have your bump in water and it's long enough for me to sit straight legged in. The sides are also rigid enough for people to lean against it. It was certainly capable of taking my weight whilst I lay against it mooing for all I was worth Blush

Liv77 - have you researched GBS? From what I know of it (which isn't much tbh), approx 30% of the population have it and it's something that comes and go's. So you or may not have it at the time of delivery. I would investigate about having anti-biots now as I'm not sure they will actually do anything. Friends who have tested positive for GBS have only had intra anti-biots during labour and just before delivery. I hope the UTI clears up soon, they're bloody horrible aren't they?

Poodle82 · 23/10/2010 14:44

Hello all,
Well done on the new threads.
It's lovely hearing the heartbeats isn't it? I feel time is moving so slowly at the moment. Not feeling any (recognisable) movement yet and it is a while till next scan so just waiting impatiently!

It feels strange that it's November soon too as that is when my first baby would have been due if I hadn't had a mmc at 13 weeks back in April. Obviously I'm really lucky that i got pregnant again quickly and so far this baby seems to be holding on but in my mind I should be on maternity leave at the moment getting ready for the new arrival not just starting the process.

lucielooo · 23/10/2010 17:47

Hope you're feeling ok poodle I know how geared up I am for April and how much I've planned round it (and was already thinking that way at 12/13 weeks) so can imagine it must feel a bit sad at the moment for your first baby.

How long do you have left until your 20 week scan? mine is still 4 weeks away and my 12 week scan feels like a long time ago. Very pleased to hear that all is well with your pregnancy this time :)

Liv77 · 23/10/2010 19:07

Hi Iliketo well done on the thread title by the way.
Yes, I researched the GBS. I'm a library assistant so looking up info comes as 2nd nature Smile

A really good website is the GBSS here:
www.gbss.org.uk/index.php

where the info on there FAQ says:
Do I need antibiotics if GBS is found in my urine?
Yes, though remember to tell your health professionals if you have ever had an allergic reaction to penicillin or any other antibiotic. Urine is supposed to be sterile so, if GBS is found in your urine, you should be treated with oral antibiotics when diagnosed and this treatment repeated until urine tests come back clear. A 5-day course would be appropriate and it?s important the urine is retested 7-10 days after finishing the antibiotics.

Treatment for a GBS positive urine sample, whether you have symptoms of a urine infection or not, is essential during pregnancy since, if left untreated, such infections can cause kidney damage and have been linked to preterm labour.

GBS having been found in the urine during pregnancy means you should also be offered intravenous antibiotics once labour has started.

I also thought this was of interest:

Are the tests for GBS colonisation reliable?
The conventional tests available are not very reliable when they give a negative result ? they give a falsely negative result up to 50% of the time when they should be positive! On the other hand, if you get a positive conventional test result, that is very reliable.

Apologies if you're not interested in GBS that may have been a bit long winded.
I tested negative at the v. swab when PG with my first son. He was fine at delivery but was transferred to the SCBU after 24 hours and given AntiB's. He was fine after a few days but they couldn't pinpoint the problem. I've been wondering if this could have been GBS related?
I know it can come and go from your system but I'm definately going to make sure I get the AntiB's at delivery this time regardless of my V. swab result, although as I've has a + urine result think that they will give them anyway.

stuffedmk · 23/10/2010 22:19

Poodle I found myself reading the november thread the other day as I too would have been due then if not for MC. I know what you mean about feeling like we should be weeks away rather than months.
