Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

OP posts:

Hello everyone,

I haven't been on for ages so it's lovely to catch up with all your news.

We've had our 20 week scan and found out we are having a second little girl Xmas GrinIt's very odd knowing, we didn't find out last time. I do feel more like I can bond with her now and I think we've got names sorted already.

cyclebump - Haven't read the whole saga but your sister sounds awful. Can't understand anybody who bans babies from their weddings, especially their own DN.

bella - Lovely engagement story. We got engaged on my b'day, 2 months after DD1 was born - she was my flower girl (see - babies can do weddings!).

chessy - It took me ages to feel any movement at all with DD1 and I was never sure it was really her. Everyone says you feel your second from really early, but I am only just certain that it's her moving around and not some strange twinge.

I know it's quite early but I'm already starting to feel quite apprehensive about the birth. My first was quite good, by all accounts, but I'm stil really nervous about doing it again. Anybody else waking up in the middle of the night thinking about it yet?

Jaylar · 06/12/2010 22:30

Hello folks
Scan today at long last. Didn't want to find out the sex but did think I saw a penis. But at one point I thought I was looking at the head and it was actually a heart chamber so what do I know.

Because the snow is still mental here (central Scotland) there seemed to be no-one else in getting scanned and the midwife was fantastic. She got my notes out from my last labour for me to read through and she spent 30 mins translating them for me and discussing whether there were any issues that would give concern for a homebirth this time around. Now feel like I can make a decision based on all the information. So homebirth it is provided all goes well. Though this looks like a big baby and DD1 was no light weight at over 9 pound. And the second one is usually heavier.

cyclebump I hope you get the wedding issue sorted. I had to tell a very good friend that her no children rule would mean that I would not be going to her wedding. My DD was only 10 weeks at the time and there was no way I was ready to leave her anywhere. She was very understanding and made an exception for me. Your sister would be extremely unreasonable and I'd have to say possibly jealous not to do the same for her own nephew/niece.

It doesn't necessarily get much easier as they get older. I booked to go to Dublin to a close friend's wedding with another friend who only knew me other than the bride. I booked it months before the wedding when my daughter was to be months old. Naturally DD would do exactly as was instructed and switch from breast to bottle. I spent 2 months trying to get her to take a bottle and I can't tell you how stressful that was. In the end I had to cancel just a few days before, letting the bride and my friend down but there was no way I could spend 2 days across a bloody big sea away from my daughter when I didn't know if she would eat for 48 hours. Your wee one will be your priority and you'll end up not giving a stuff about your sister and her wedding.

Cyclebump · 07/12/2010 12:33

I think my sister just doesn't realise how ridiculous the request is. I'll make the best arrangements I can and with a fabulously calm and collected DP saying that he will look after baby all day and hover near the venue so I can nip out at any time she'll just have to deal with whatever I come up with.

DP felt baby kick again last night and got quite excited. He also won me the pram on eBay yesterday! Is PURPLE!!!!

caramellokoalalover · 07/12/2010 14:06

Cyclebump your sister is being totally unfair. I get why people wouldn't want children at their wedding. But we're talking a newborn. Whole different kettle of fish. Hopefully anyone she talks to about it will reassure her that a newborn won't be any problem at a wedding. Your DP could always walk about with the baby in (your fantastic purple) pushchair during the ceremony, but the reception will surely be loud enough to muffle any sound of a newborn. Hope she sees reason!

Liv77 the chinese gender predictor is based on your age at conception and the month of conception. It's all based on lunar calendars or something...I think it's just a bit of fun. Here's one to try. There are a few different versions knocking about too making it even less scientific! Here's another one showing completely different results! Just goes to show it's probably a load of crap Grin

JustKeepSparkling · 07/12/2010 14:14

& doesn't she want your DP to come too? think she needs a reality check!

Cyclebump · 07/12/2010 14:53

Ah, sister does want DP to come but he stated firmly 'I don't want a stranger looking after our baby for the day'.

He doesn't see my family a lot and they're not particularly close.

Besides, a compromise has to be found somewhere.

Petalouda · 07/12/2010 17:12

Hey folks,

cycle, I'm surprised your sister wouldn't want your baby and partner there. It's baffling, but you seem to be handling it brilliantly. Hopefully she'll come round when she meets the little bundle.

We had the second anomaly scan this morning, and fortunately everything is good! All growth is spot on. He's definitely still a boy. And we've been officially released from the consultant, back to midwife-led care! (although we've still got the GTT to do over xmas!) Woop!

Just had a go on those chinese gender predictors, first one was wrong (said it was a girl) second was correct (saying boy). But then it's a 50/50 chance!

1stTimeMother · 07/12/2010 18:46

Wow - only just catching up, or trying to, after far too long since last looking on here, but very exciting to hear all the movements going on and scans and proposal!!!!! Congratulations all round.

Hope everyone's feeling well and have survived the snow. I managed to fall down a hill whilst out running (was feeling smug at still running at 18+5 so probably being struck down by Zeus!) so am currently hopping around feeling rather sorry for myself. Annoying as I'm now 20 weeks, had scan last friday which went really well, all is good, sizing right & lovely sonographer (after miserable woman for 12 week scan) so I'm feeling energised & great, impeded by being lame... grrr.

Hopefully will be back in action soon though as want to enjoy this time whilst I don't feel sick, am not too big & have energy! Good to know baby hasn't been hurt by my falling and earlier e-coli bout... oh the glamour.

Oh and cycle bump - I had a no-child policy for my wedding but the moment a friend of mine asked to bring their newborn I absolutely said yes, helped them find a babysitter for during the reception so that they could happily come & go checking on their baby but knowing he was safe whilst they could enjoy the wedding, and all was absolutely fine. Your DP sounds very cool and has the right attitude and it will be your sister's loss if she doesn't let you bring the baby! Sorry, just adding my tuppenceworth.. newborns aren't going to run around causing chaos!

Oh and if anyone does find good, not too expensive maternity dresses for a wedding, keep posting links please. My SIL is getting married 2 wks before I'm due... joy.

hippy3 · 07/12/2010 19:15

nitnat we have picked the names.

at the moment we are liking Isaac and Finn.

But that seems to change, every week ! althhough this has beena favourite for 2 weeks now...so this might be it ! Smile

Anyone else.....?

BeetleBaby · 07/12/2010 19:55

Cyclebump it sounds like your sister is on the initial post engagement bridezilla rampage. I'm sure I had a similar phase when first engaged, all big ideas about how everything would be perfect and everyone else can lump it! The actual wedding (which was in March this year so a pretty recent experience) was nothing like my first ideas. I'm sure your sister will come around once the actual practicalities of a wedding hit home.

Bella congratulations!

hippy & nitnat We keep discussing names, but can't seem to narrow them down. So far the possibilities are:
Girls - Siri, Cally/ie or Aurora

Boys - Isaac, Sascha or Samuel

I will admit I keep saying the names to my bump and waiting for a response...nothing yet Grin

happycamel · 07/12/2010 20:23

Hi everyone, I've been posting on the pregnancy board for a few weeks and just found you all over here too.

I'm due April 5th. Please may I join you?

Quick summary. Age 29, expecting first DC with DH. All going well so far but baby a bit small for dates at 20 wk scan so have an extra on at 24 wks (Thurs 16th).

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better

NotAnotherNewNappy · 07/12/2010 22:07

Welcome happycamel and very bust of luck with your next scan.

Have we still got a list with everybody's names and due dates going or did it get too big to manage? (just like I'm feeling now Xmas Grin)

cyclebump Just wondering, are you still cycling? I have given up in London but did cycle around Center Parcs a bit last week. Felt v wierd.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 07/12/2010 22:15

best of luck Xmas Blush

LoulouCapone · 08/12/2010 08:02

Hi everyone, it's so nice to catch up on how everyone's doing. My hyperemesis is lifting slightly which is nice. Our scan was yesterday, and I really could have sat there all day and watched baby. I'm bucking the April trend and having a little girl! Feeling lots more movements now too, and past the halfway mark. Once Christmas is gone the time is going to fly past. (hopeful!)

caramellokoalalover · 08/12/2010 09:57

Hi and welcome happycamel!

NotAnotherNewNappy - the April stats are here Xmas Smile

Glad to hear you're feeling a little better loulou. I had HG with DS, in and out of hospital and still sick in labour. Urggh. This time round am on superdooper meds to try and keep it under control. Totally feel for you. Congrats on your little girl!

ecuse · 08/12/2010 10:18

notanothernewnappy I'm not cycling round London any more. I stopped in first trimester because I was too exhausted and now I just feel a bit nervous about it. Probably no reason to, and possibly I'm just being lazy.

We had our 20 week scan on Monday, and all is looking lovely in there. I was a little bit nervous about it because my cousin had spina bifida 'incompatible with life' diagnosed at her 20wk scan, which I always knew was awful for her, but now think I have a little bit more of a clue as to how awful Sad (happily she has beautiful DS now so there is that)

Anyway, our little wriggler seems all fine, as far as they can tell. Although inexplicably slender and long legged given its short fat parents! We decided not to find out the sex, although I was secretly half hoping they'd let it slip but only because I'm impatient. I don't really want to know, it's just very tempting knowing that they could tell you! It was so lovely watching it wriggle about on the screen there and we had a nice long time to look as we had a trainee scanning us (it's a teaching hospital) with an experienced sonographer standing over her, explaining what everything was and how to check for things, which my OH was absolutely fascinated by. So exciting!

The funniest thing for me was being able to see the baby wriggling on screen and feel it at the same time. OH was saying to me "I know you told me it was doing somersaults, but I didn't realise it was LITERALLY doing somersaults Shock! I can't wait for him to be able to feel the baby moving but I would guess it might be a while yet since I've got a fairly healthy covering of fat to kick through!

Oh, and having been smug about not putting on any weight between 10 and 16 weeks, I've now found out I put on 6lbs between 16 and 21 Blush.

SaltedPretzels · 08/12/2010 13:06

Morning all Xmas Smile thought I'd start with the festive hats!

Wow great news all round, nice to hear.

Ecuse yes ours appears to have long legs too, I'm 5'2" DH is 5' 10" so glad it's not taking after me in the hobbit department!

Bella Congratulations that's really lovely news

Cyclebump I'm from a large family, so when I got married 2 years ago we had a family orientated wedding, with children's favours being games, colouring books, magic tricks etc, the church we made a children's corner with lego and room for pushchairs etc. Yes they did make a racket but marriage is about family, making your own and joining a new one. I don't in any way think it's unreasonable for you to take a new baby. When your sister has children I hope you remind her of this Xmas Grin.

Happycamel hello by now you'll probably know that your more than likely to have a boy by just joining this thread Xmas Grin welcome.

I think my placenta is moving up, they warned me it would hurt but I spent most of last night trying to make a ball shape and sobbing into my pillow, today I'm in bed when I get up or straighten out it hurts like crazy, still baby is kicking so as long as it's for a good reason I can take the painXmas Sad x

Have next MF meeting on Monday so time to tune into FM Baby's Heartbeat, my favourite station!

Have fun all, still snow here, road is iced so can't go anywhere again so bed is nice.

AprilMeadow · 08/12/2010 16:58

Congratulations on all the lovely scan news and how lovely to have an engagement thrown in as well :o

Hippy, love the name choices :) We came away from our scan knowing that we have a Finn joining the family :o

My other 3 all have 4 letter names so it seemed only right to do the same for this one..

Am 24wks tomorrow which means we have now hit the 'baby is viable' stage. I start to relax a lot more from now on. Have gained about 14lbs now so am still quite pleased with that. Lots of movements but mainly in the evening as i am always busy during the day.

happycamel · 08/12/2010 17:47

Thanks Caramel, I have duly added myself in to the stats thread.

Thanks for all the welcomes too. I'm now going to settle back with a cup of (redbush) tea and try to read this thread from the beginning....

JustKeepSparkling · 08/12/2010 18:00

Hi Happycamel :)

Aprilmeadow - so you'll have 2 of each then? very tidy!

I think i've put on 16lbs now, hey ho, i know what i'm letting myself in for when i eat the choccie biscuits Xmas Grin

I look forward to the 24 weeks mark too, 21+3 today.

AprilMeadow · 08/12/2010 19:11

JKS, I am very lucky to have 2 of each. Was very pleased when the sonographer said boy as thats what I really wanted..

Will upload a picture of me with my babies as I havent put a recent one on for a while.

I gained loads of weight with Ds... almost 4st! I've been determined that I wont do that again and so far i'm doing ok..

Liv77 · 08/12/2010 20:28

Welcome camel this is our 2nd thread as we gossip so much if you want to read the first too it can be found
here

Caramel thanks for the link, both say I will have a girl this time but one also says that DS should be a DD.

I have been feeling rather sorry for myself today as came down with a vomiting bug yesterday so had to miss out on DS going to see Father Christmas today Sad. My mum filmed it for me though so I still got to watch. He was very brave and even sat on Santa's lap (last year he took one look at him and started crying).

Cyclebump · 09/12/2010 09:10

Oh no Liv, hope you feel better soon.

I'm very happy after picking up our pram yesterday. Is a dark purple iCandy Cherry that I managed to get on eBay. Looks barely used and was less than half the brand-new price!

Is our first purchase for the baby so am suddenly all excited!

Liv77 · 09/12/2010 09:50

Thanks Cycle, I'm feeling human again, just trying to get rid of nasty sore throat now. I've taken the day off work today and DS is at nursery until 2pm so i'm going to put my feet up and watch some TV.

Your purple pushchair sounds lush Smile i'm still debating whether I need a double or not. If I get one we'll probably hardly use it but if I don't I'll keep wishing I had one Confused

Cyclebump · 09/12/2010 10:46

Oooh, feet up with TV sounds like a fab idea...
