Here we go ladies, a brand new sparkly thread that should see us all into our 2nd trimester Smile

Many thanks for the warm welcomes Smile

I've felt lots of movements this evening, I was sitting in quite a twisted position which is why I think I felt it so much.

Re GAP Maternity - I love the tops I got when I was in Birmingham before Christmas, esp some stretchy black long-sleeved things that go underneath other tops, bliss, but difficult to get to a store that does Mat for me - tried online but could only seem to find American site for Maternity and got horribly confused. Probably babybrain.....All help greatly appreciated!

Cyclebump · 05/01/2011 16:27

Unfortunately Gap is near impossible to get online in the UK.

My DP also bought me a couple of Gap maternity tops for Christmas and my sister got me another pair of jeans. Lovely!

A friend had a baby this morning. It was a planned early c-section at 35 weeks. Baby girl weighing 4lb 2oz. She's in special care but sounds like she's doing well.

kittycatcat · 05/01/2011 16:35

Hi all

Am shattered. Bought a dream genii yest which made me much more comfy but i still woke up.

Joew i didnt know what GTT was either. I got a jo jo maman bebe coat on ebay. Had to have sleeves turned up as i am 5ft!

Welcome Itmar hope all is ok now.

JustKeepSwimming · 05/01/2011 16:55

Hope the new baby is ok and out of special care soon.

Gap is rubbish online tbh, and hardly any gaps do maternity either, oxford st does apparently, so hoping to fit in a trip there at some point soon.
The top DH bought me is a long sleeve stripy one, v comfy and warm - turns out most of my mat clothes are summery.

this one in purple rain if that link doesn't work properly.
It's silly as you can look & buy in the US inline but no in the uk.

if you click the GapMat box here you can see your nearest one.

Daisy17 · 05/01/2011 16:57

Thanks, JKS, I'll have a go! Smile

JoEW · 05/01/2011 17:50

daisy17 H&M does fitted long sleeve tops that go under everything in a few colours, including black and they are only about £7.99 if you can get to their maternity section.

I'm very lucky, actually, as I work in Wimbledon and have a H&M and a Gap that both do maternity clothes and a Debenhams, though I haven't bought anything there. H&M stuff is good, cheap and quite flattering. Didn't get to the JoJoMB coat today but have hope for tomorrow!

Thanks for the advice on the GTT and the scratch mittens JKS - oh well, I've got them now! At least I'll look like I know what I'm doing for 30 seconds as I leave the hospital, before they fall off. So impressed with the knitting. My mum has some sort of terrifying knitting production line on the go but, from memory, she wasn't very good at sleeves so go only knows what creations will arrive over the next couple of months.

I think if I've got t-shirty things, sleepsuits, hat, and maybe some sort of cardigan and blankets for getting home from hospital I will avoid anyone chasing me and screaming 'bad mother, bad mother!'.

Hope your friend's baby is doing well cycle

Petalouda · 05/01/2011 18:38

Afternoon All,

Re scratch mittens - I think Cycle said about some sleepsuits from the US that had integral scratchmits. The ones we got from mothercare last week have little fold-over ends too.

And with the GTT, you'll be told in advance of it because you're not allowed to eat anything from the night before Sad

Work is dull and rubbish and I'd much rather concentrate on growing a baby (by which I mean snooze on the sofa!)

beckie90 · 05/01/2011 18:57

jenAT i was induced at 42 weeks too, DS weighd 6 pounds 7, they never mentioned anything about his size, u are abit taller than me though, so it might be that.

cyclebump, congratulations to your friend i hope her baby is doing well 4ib 2 god that seems so small

Jaylar · 05/01/2011 20:09

Followed the link to the lovely JoJoMama coats and ordered a pile of stuff from the site yesterday. In a panic now that none will fit. Oh well. Im 5ft6 so maybe I could get away with it if I wear heels. Like I could manage that anymore.

I never bothered with a nursing chair but I did buy a Poang chair from IKEA for the same reason. IKEA have them in their breastfeeding rooms and I must have spent hours in there feeding DD. They were so comfy I drifted off a few times so ended up buying a set. They have wooden armrests so have to use v shaped pillow when baby gets a bit bigger but they are so comfy, they rock gently and give great back support.

A friend who was due her first baby in mid Feb had a little girl this morning. She only finished work on Friday and hadn't even bought a car seat yet. Has made me realise I perhaps don't have as much time as I thought and need to pull my finger out.

What happens when we actually start having the babies? Do we announce them on this thread or update the stats one? Any MN experts out there know?

LisMcA · 05/01/2011 20:13

GTT is standard for all expectant mums here. So it looks like its another postcode lottery!

Another hectic day at work! but I wont bore you all again!

I got one of these at babies r us the other day. I think it's quite good value for the stuff in it, pluss a handy box to throw junk store essentials in :o

Has anyone actually felt their baby move across their stomach. I mean today i was sitting at work and the tennis ball sized lump appeared on my bump and "travelled" diagonally downwards. Twas very weird feeling. I'm thinking either head or bum of bubbs was involved!

MW tomorrow to get my HIP form. I'm going to whinge talk to her about my SPD and lack of physio appointment. I also need her to give me a letter or something to give to work to allow me to park in the disabled bay outside my building. The usual car park is about 300 yards away and has to flights of stairs between car and door. Work wont take my word for it and just let me park there because I really love pretending to walk like a duck thats shit itself Blush

Petalouda · 05/01/2011 21:33

Lis I've had the sticky out lump thing a few times, though not usually at work. I also frequently get knees/elbows/feet grinding across my side when I'm in bed. He usually kicks on my side anyway, and I'll put my hand there (between bump & mattress) to feel it, and occasionally I'll get a proper grinding one across my palm! It's so weird its almost unpleasant!

Jay we've got a poang chair too, it's brill. Though DH & cat love it too so there's often a fight over it! (we've had to put a throw over the nice cream cushions so we don't get cat prints all over it - living in a building site is lush!)

MrsWajs · 06/01/2011 02:04

Just to mention about the scratch mit/sleepsuit convo - next ones also have turnover sleeves as well :)

Jaylar I was guessing maybe we announce the birth on here and then start a post-natal thread for all the mummies?? Although that means I might be pottering about in here on my own for a wee while at the end cus I have one of the latest EDDs!!

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 06/01/2011 03:39

From stalking most people announce on their ante-natal thread and sometimes tell the birth story then pop over to post-natal!

What I'm wondering is if your baby is early/late do you stay in your ante-natal EDD month with your friends or go join, say March or May?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 06/01/2011 11:01

I vote stay with your friends when the post-natal thread starts - and I don't want to hear anymore about early babies. They are all going to behave themselves and stay put until at least 37 weeks Grin

Don't worry mrsWajs - I'm due on the 29 April, so I'll be there with you into May

OP posts:
JoEW · 06/01/2011 11:15

I agree, let's keep the same group and just create a new thread for when we've had the babies. We can cross over as they arrive.

Oh lord, I can't believe we're talking about this already. My pram arrived yesterday and then I burst into tears having a conversation with DH about whether he'll call me 'mummy' to the toddler our baby will eventually become. Me: "I don't want YOU to call me mummy, I want to be Jo". Him: "Don't be so daft, that sounds wanky". Me: "Sob". I think I might be getting a touch nervous about the arrival!

Also filled in my maternity leave forms for work today. I cannot have an early baby. I dont have time. This is a resonable demand, right?

Jaylar · 06/01/2011 12:39

I'm afraid me and DP are both guilty of calling each other mummy and daddy in front of our 2 year old. Swore I would never do it but you do fall into these things. If she doesn't get our attention after 2 or 3 shouts she does scream our first names though which is really unnerving.

And yes I'm having full on dragging of baby appendage across my stomach. It is verty visible from the outside. It does make me wonder what it will be like in a couple of months time. It'll be like that Freddy film where you can actually see a full face through the skin on my stomach.

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 06/01/2011 12:40

Oh goody - I don't want to have to wander into a room thread full of strangers and only have the fact we had a baby in the same month in common!

Perfectly reasonable, Jo! I'm teaching and assessing til 38 weeks so it can't come early...

kittycatcat · 06/01/2011 13:31

I'm 28th April so will also be here til the end :-) off for 3rd scan now.

Petalouda · 06/01/2011 17:32

I might end up off the other end - if he's a week early that'll be mid-march! I'll start a new PN thread, but still rattle around on here till you've all joined me!

I wasn't going to even start my leave till 39 weeks, but then decided on 38. Not because I'm particularly dedicated to my job, but because the mat pay's so pathetic!

Gold have I put all the clues together to work out that you teach on a uni on Reunion? If that's right, what do you teach?

Petalouda · 06/01/2011 17:34

or, alternatively teach in or at a uni, unless you lecture on the roof, of course!

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 06/01/2011 20:03

I definitely teach in! English. It's soul destroying. They can chant their irregular verbs but can't discuss or debate or anything.

MrsWajs · 07/01/2011 01:40

Glad I'm going to have some company for the end!! :)

I occasionally call DP daddy infront of DSS but he doesn't call me mummy for obvious reasons. DSS also has a habit of correcting me when I call DP by his christian name, i.e - he'll say "daddys name is daddy, not ....." but yet when I call him daddy, he corrects me by saying "daddys name is ....!!" The joy of 3 year olds - can't win, can't wait to throw a baby into the mix too!!

DP getting very anxious about not having a name for baby yet, it's almost as though he thinks if we don't pick one now they're going to run out or something!?!?

Petalouda · 07/01/2011 06:51

Morning all,

Can I ask a question?

I keep getting really bad night sweats. To the point where I have to get up and get a towel to dry myself off. It happened twice last night! It's gross. Is this just me?

And mid-upper back pain, anyone?

Happy fridays everyone. x

GoldFrakkincenseAndMyrrh · 07/01/2011 07:10

I've had a couple of random sweats. Blame the hormones! It's pretty icky though and while I have sympathy I have no practical advice

Back pain, is it between your shoulders? If so it could be transferred from your neck down and your lower back up. Best advice my mother gave me on pregnancy was to adjust my posture every Monday morning to preserve spinal alignment and avoid arching back and poking my head forward creating that s shaped curve which puts strain almost exactly there.

We're nearly at the end of this thread! Only 74 posts til it's full and most of them will probably be discussing shopping if recent experience is anything to go by Grin We need a new name...

April 2011 - we'll shop til we pop?!

kittycatcat · 07/01/2011 07:26

petal I had sweats three nights in a row then it stopped. Fingers crossed for you.

frak as a self confessed shopaholic I LOVE the name suggestion :-)

Had our third scan yest. He still didn't want to move so I got sent for a 20 min walk then sat leaning forward as this seems to make him go sideways in a bud for space. It worked and all is well. He looked at us and seemed to wave :-) so cool.
