The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Zero, no not too optimistic but i think it can depend on the time of day that you give birth as I think they need to be seen by the paediatrician before you go home. I gave birth to DD at quarter past 9 at night and had had an epidural so I stayed that night but in the morning the MW said that once she'd seen the paediatrician and as long as I'd been for a wee (because I'd had an epidural they needed to be sure that I could go, I actually lied which was silly of me and told her I'd been) I could go home. DD was less than 24 hours old when we got home but we had to wait until afternoon for DH to pick us up.

When my sister had my nephew she was told, when in labour, that if he was born by 2pm she could go home that day. He ended up being born early evening so they had to stay a night.

ledkr · 26/10/2010 17:08

zero myself and scmacb are having planned sections so we would have to extremely optomistic to expect to go home afew hrs later. We will be in at least 2 nights and quite rightly so as will be catheterised and in some pain.I think we were hoping that those few days will be as pleasant as possible for ourselves the new babies and our relatives.

Deliaskis · 26/10/2010 17:20

Zero not sure if I'll be staying if everything goes to plan, but don't want to be too optimistic as if I assume I'll be home it will bother me that I'm not IYSWIM.

Slaughtered, I laughed at your post re lying and saying you had had a wee so you could go home. It reminded me of when I had a minor op when I was a kid, and Dad and me staged a prison break from hospital as I reeeeeaally wanted to go home and they wouldn't let me until I had eaten some toast and not thrown up, so I ate the toast, said I felt fine, threw up, gave the sick bowl to junior nurse, watched her walk off with it one way, told senior nurse coming from the other direction that everything was fine, jumped in the wheelchair and Dad literally ran down the corridor with me before the two nurses spoke to each other!

I remember laughing so much I was shaking and it hurt my just operated on foot.

Delia now wandering off into complete irrelevant randomness.....

the few days in hospital can be quite nice as well if you got the right company. When i had dd there were two funny women in and we ordered pizza one night and dh smuggled us in some wine. We only had one little drop each but were up really late giggling. We are all great friends still.I like the atmosphere and its lovely having those few precious days with you and your new baby with controlled visits form everyone but your own dh and dcs. Precious moments before you are back in the real world.

supadupa900 · 26/10/2010 17:42

Hello everyone! Been busy, busy busy here, so only just catching up on things. I was really excited for my 20 wk scan (2 weeks ago now) and was really looking forward to finding out if we were having a boy or girl, but it turns out we've got a shy baby. legs well and truly clamped together. We did see bum cheeks though! The baby also seems to be having a massive growth spurt. I feel like I can almost see it growing. Going to try out TPT, but which way are you all measuring? Is it top to bottom, or across the middle?

Hope everyone is tip top x

wigglesrock · 26/10/2010 17:51

Ledkr really pleased you're feeling much better, agree with you about how you can be in a baby loved up cocoon for a few days in hospital. I loved those few days of just the two of us, my hospital only allows partners in for normal visiting hours after the birth so it really was just the two of us for most of the time.

I stayed in for 3 nights with dd1 and 2 with dd2, they were both born in the evening and hospital doesn't count that as an overnight. I understand people being desperate to go home but with a 5 and 3 year old at home, think I'll be begging the hospital for an extra night [hgrin]

Trying to muster up the courage for tpt, am afraid, very afraid.

ScMacBt · 26/10/2010 18:36

Well iv been informed by MW i'll be kept in minimum o 3 days and thats only if my blood etc behave, which with my rotten luck they wont. Really worried though about arranging childcare etc for ds whilst im in hospital. No idea how its going to work at all.

Im guessin tpt is done round biggest part of tummy, thats what i done today. Iv Not been even thinking about the bump more abot the weight issue as im hoping heavier i get hat means my dc is growing this time round.

SlaughteredSheep · 26/10/2010 19:00

TPT measurement: I've grown a whole quarter of a sheet since last week so I'm now 8 and a quarter!

I agree with Wiggles that I might appreciate the break in hospital this time! Last time as I was a first time mum, I just felt like I didn't know what I was doing and I felt like they were judging me. They weren't of course, I was just being paranoid! I'm hoping that I'll feel more comfortable this time now that I've been used to changing nappies etc.

ScMacBt · 26/10/2010 19:10

slaughteredsheep i had same feeling with ds that i was being judged/looked down nose at as i was a first time mum. Hopefully this time it will be a lot better.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 26/10/2010 21:45

ledkr I like your style, ordering pizza in hospital! Wink I hope all you mums that aren't having your first DC get to have a bit of a rest even if it is in hospital.

wiggles you'll be fine with TPT, I was so scared initially but I think we all see ourselves as bigger than we are. I was in Smiths the other day and was served by a very pregnant woman, we got chatting and she is due in 6 weeks, I immediately thought to myself, OMG, I'm as big as her and she's much further gone than me. My mum (who was with me) pointed out that I'm nothing near her size but I genuinely think I am when I see myself in the mirror. I must say that I've had 'issues' with my weight for years now though and had anorexia throughout my teens and twenties.

angels it is a difficult one with your work but I agree with zero about a light hearted email just to check things. I'm going to do the same thing with my work as not sure what's going on. I know I'm not going back but they haven't replied to my letter stating why.

Anyone going to watch 'Getting On' in a bit? I loved the last series and saw Jo Brand doing stand up last year and she is brilliant.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyZombieSlave · 27/10/2010 07:24

I genuinely am bigger than my SIL who is due in less than a week. Mind you, she is very slim and super-fit while I... am not.

zerominuszero · 27/10/2010 09:47

I meant to ask prof how was your holiday?

knittakid · 27/10/2010 10:16

hi prof, welcome back! did you have a nice time?

TallulahBelly14 · 27/10/2010 13:39

Hello all - my TPT for last night is 7.5 - so an extra quarter of a sheet since last week. Not feeling so svelte any more!!

zerominuszero · 27/10/2010 16:42

Wow its really quiet on here today. No one doing anything intertesting? I'm baking cookies and doing marking.

hornedtoadjennyp · 27/10/2010 16:48

Does anyone else have really fluffy hair? I can't get mine to do anything over the last couple of days!

EauRouge · 27/10/2010 17:13

Yes, I have terrible hair too, really fluffy but it goes greasy and lank if I put too any serum on Hmm ah well, it's not like I'm going out much at the moment, I walked to the co-op this afternoon and it's only a 5 minute walk but it nearly killed me!

I've been baking today as well, I've made some mini apple pies to take to my grandparents tomorrow and I made a cake for my neighbour to say thank you for taking my cat to the vet for me.

Hope everyone else is doing well, I feel rushed off my feet at the moment Confused

TallulahBelly14 · 27/10/2010 17:13

Wave to zero - cookies sound lovely! I keep attempting to bake but have had some right disasters recently. Will keep at it though, my next attempt will be chocolate chip :)

All I'm doing is sitting at work, trying to get into a comfortable position! Is anyone else getting really bad back pain? I thought it was just me sleeping funny, but it's been getting worse for weeks. I'd love any ideas for making sitting at a desk for 10 hours less painful...?

ScMacBt · 27/10/2010 17:32

TallulahBelly14 Have you tried a maternity wedge pillow? Iv found that helps with back pain when sitting for long periods.

Weather here is miserable so if it continues I think I'll be having a quiet weekend with lots of arty type projects with ds.

Was quite productivetoday managed to sort all the baby things i have bought so far and do all my house work :) Mostly due to the fact i have midwife tommorow and am very scared/nervous/anxious :( .

knittakid · 27/10/2010 17:56

Good luck tomorrow scmacbt. What is supposed to happen at this appointment (I'm assuming it's the 24 weeks one)?

I too have horrible hair! sick of it, and after spending my 20s cutting it short and letting it grow, I finally decided to let it grow about a year ago, it's a nice length now and would really like not to have to cut it again (it's very curly and the growing phase is horrible).

Baking! well done girls, and thanks for making me crave apple pie... i should be eating lots of fruit and veg, not pies!! (even with apple in them...)

It was great weather today here, and went to the allotment and made a whole raised bed for the rasperries that should be arriving soon, need to make another one though, and then will probably give it up [hgrin]

angels1 · 27/10/2010 18:15

tallulah have you tried sitting on an excercise ball? My physio has got me to buy one and tis quite nice to bounce around on (and builds core muscles at same time :) ). Might look a bit unusual though [hhmm]

ScMacBt · 27/10/2010 18:49

knittakid i go to the midwife pretty much every fortnight for blood checks, weight etc. But at last visit my blood was really bad and it left me feeling very upset/frustrated. But strangely tommorow iv to go see a community MW instead of going to the hospital, which is annoying as this is the one and only time il ever go there due to the fact tat as of the middle of next month im completely hopsital based for growth scans, ante natal clinic every 4 weeks.

ledkr · 27/10/2010 19:28

eaurouge glad im not the only one. I feel so big and heavy its like im due tomorrow. Went to park earlier and then shopping all with dh so didnt have to do much. I was positively waddling and puffing and panting it ridiculous.I too have lower back pain as my tummy is causing my back to arch and although spd it bearable it is constantly sore especially in bed.The ball is dead comfy i aggree.
Have my 4d scan on Friday taking dd and dh and also my sons girlfriend who has been a great help. Only thing is as i get more tired i am finding it really hard to tolerate my year old grandson here for long periods as he is into everything and makes such a mess-i know thats what they do but she doesnt always realise and it leaves me with extra cleaning.Gosh am i grumpy?

ScMacBt · 27/10/2010 19:33

Oh ledkr let us know how 4d goes. Im assuming your having it to find out the sex? If i dnt find out at next scan im going to book one but was told it might be too late to be able to see properly? Any knowledge on that front?

Sucks your having a bad time of it :( I was moaning abut wanting to have a bigger bump but you ladies seem to b finding it really hard :( x

ledkr · 27/10/2010 19:48

well already been told its a girl at nucal scan and 20 wks but this is just a very self indulgent one for me and the others to have a sneak preview of her. Maybe will stop dh saying"i cant believe there's a baby in there" all well im being kicked to death have all my iron stores robbed by her and my fanny feels like ive been kicked repeatedly haha.I will ask about the sex question tho and let you know.Hope its not a boy now cos have pink nursery and some girls clothes.
Have you name changed? Was i talking to you about your ex a while back?
