Feb babies 2011 - We may not be glowing but we're definitely growing!

Wanderingsheep · 29/09/2010 20:26

The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
angels1 · 25/10/2010 18:24

eeek, you're starting to make me wish for a home birth ! I'll stay in blissful ignorance on the ways of the hospital [la la la fingers in ears] and keep praying the new hospital I'm due to give birth in that opens in january and where everyone has their own room doesn't run late...

ScMacBt · 25/10/2010 18:27

Oh can i come to your hospital angels1? I want a room of my own but as im a "planned" (forced) section they shall prob put me in a ward. If i manage to win the lottery over the coming weeks i will go private haha. I hate hospitals at the best of time so im assuming whether its nhs or private i'll still want home after a day.

knittakid · 25/10/2010 18:41

Yay half term!! I'm enjoying it too zero
went to john lewes today to buy some fabric to make "this www.purlbee.com/cheerful-quilted-playmat/"
and also got some felt to make some Christmas decorations, it'll be my first one in my own home rather than away with relatives!
DH could feel the kicks two weeks ago, but I have been suspecting that baby is a bit extreme - and he's growing so much I look about a month more than I should, seriously.
Hope the pills help ledkr and you feel better soon.

angels1 · 25/10/2010 18:41

this isn't private scmacbt, it's the 'first NHS hospital in the country where every patient has their own room' (words of the NHS). I shall be crossing my legs that I'm not too early or I'll get in the old falling apart hospital with massive wards they currently have Confused

ScMacBt · 25/10/2010 18:55

oh angels1 i'll keep my fingers crossed for you :) the hospital i'll be going to is fairly new and really clean etc but id rather have a wee room, guess it makes it easier to sleep etc. My section is going to be about 5 days before my due date unless i go early and then it'll be a wee emergency section.

How are you coping in general with the pregnancy?

grigglepuff · 25/10/2010 19:01

Hello ladies, sorry to hear of all the ill health!
I've been poorly too the last 5 days or so with a nasty cough and cold - nothing too dramatic (and in no way comparable to being signed off OR being in hospital!!!) but my god does the slightest illness knock me out nowadays! Breathing is so hard at the mo :( Hope everyone starts to feel better soon!

knitta did you buy the batting at John Lewis? I keep meaning to go up and have a look to see if they have any wadding or whatever it's called...

knittakid · 25/10/2010 19:54

griggle they didn't have cotton one, so will buy online.

Hello everyone!

Sorry to hear about people being ill and your hospital visit Ledkr.

I haven't been playing the baby music on purpose Zero, but she was moving quite a bit when DH was playing Disturbed in the car! I think we might have a rock fan, well either that or she was wriggling uncomfortably trying to get DH to turn it down!

I'm sorry to say that Cerrie and Sid et al (Cbeebies) are our best friends in this house [hblush]. It means that I can MN get jobs done in peace!

zerominuszero · 25/10/2010 21:59

slaughteredsheep I know Disturbed, nothing wrong with your baby liking that, I saw them live once upon a time

angels I have insiders at Pembury and they tell me that it should be done on time, which I know is hard to believe considering that it's Pembury, but apparently it's the case.

strathanna · 25/10/2010 23:14

Hello
I am not a classical music fan so I sellotape my headphones to the bump - he / she loves it!

SlaughteredSheep · 25/10/2010 23:26

Hello and welcome strathanna!

I do quite like classical music, although I'll listen to anything really. My favourite classical piece is Fur Elise. Is that Beethoven?

I like music from musicals, rock, metal, pop although not keen on R 'n' B. I'm more of a telly addict though or I like to read. DH is the music lover in this house and I've a feeling that DD will be the same. I keep picturing when the DDs are teenagers with their music on full blast and DH going in their rooms, but instead of asking them to turn it down, joining in!

SlaughteredSheep · 25/10/2010 23:30

Zero, LOL at pink hair! [hsmile]

My mum has pink hair ATM just like, erm Pink! She's 63, ha ha! It's usually dyed red but I think she fancied a change. Think she's having a late mid-life crisis! [hhmm] [hgrin]

zerominuszero · 26/10/2010 07:01

Having pink hair was great, it's sad that work won't let me do it these days... although I do still play around with slightly more subtle dying (like plum, which only shows up in my dark hair when I'm standing in light) that is arguably more attractive than bubble gum pink [hwink]

anna good idea but I'm wondering - a lot of us have hairy bumps - mine is more like a thick coating of fur, like a bear - so what's it like getting the sellotape off again? Or is it a quicker way of getting rid of them than plucking them one by one, which is what I tried?

Highlandgirl · 26/10/2010 09:05

Morning Peeps...!

I've changed my name from HighlandlassinLondonshire to Highlandgirl...!

Someone already has Highlandlass...sniff xxxx

Deliaskis · 26/10/2010 09:24

Sorry to hear other people aren't sleeping. I'm doing better now, and only had 2 loo visits last night, which is unheard of (even before pg I was going 1-2 times per night). When I was 8 weeks, DH and were on holiday on a yacht, and one night I had to go 7 times - 7! And this on a boat where getting out of bed involved wriggling and spinning around on bum to get legs out and onto floor etc. a bit of a logistical nightmare, and I was going 7 times.

Sleeping better with the mattress topper and 238 pillows. I think I may need planning permission for my pillow structure and DH has about 3 inches width to sleep on, but that's just the price he has to pay I reckon.

Our NHS unit has the option of paying £70 for a private room, which seems pretty reasonable under the circs, so I'm planning on doing that, unless the ward only has like one other person on it or something.

slaughtered yes Fuer Elise is Beethoven.

D

wigglesrock · 26/10/2010 09:45

D I had the worst night sleep last night, and was up four times to go to loo!! It rained here all night and because I wasn't sleeping well think the rain made me need to go to the toilet!! Our hospital has private rooms on a first come first served basis, for about £70 too, although only four beds in each ward so mightn't bother.

DD1 finishes school for Halloween today and has her first school disco this afternoon [sob] how did she get big enough to do that, she's only 5!! DD2 turns 3 this weekend and can't believe that either, think my "rage" may be moving towards lots of emotional sobbing [hgrin]

Deliaskis · 26/10/2010 10:12

Oh dear wiggles, I know I'm much more able to cope with life in general when I've had sleep, and the way I've felt since Saturday morning (after my first good sleep in weeks) is worlds apart from how I was for weeks before.

Our hosp only has 4 beds on the ward too, so it might not be necessary to go for the private room, but am just envisaging that even 4 new babies and new Mums could potentially be noisy, so am reserving judgement until the time comes.

Do children finish school for Halloween these days?

D

americanexpat · 26/10/2010 10:16

Hello! I've not been posting but I've been keeping up with the thread. For TPT today, I'm still 8.25 sheets, which is the same as 2 weeks ago, I think.

Am I the only one not getting up in the night for the toilet? I have to be pretty desperate to get out of bed and I'm more likely to get up for some antacid. I do wake up about 4 times in the night needing to roll over, DH says I thrash about violently trying to move. Apparently I've also started snoring quite loudly. [hblush] I told him if he's bothered, he knows where the sofa is.

wigglesrock · 26/10/2010 10:18

DDs school/playgroup combine Halloween and midterm into 3/4 days off, they get an extra day on 1 Nov, for holy day (All Souls day). If the kids weren't off school how could they set off all those annoying feckin' fireworks all day [hgrin]

I'm also a tad nosy(!!) if I wasn't in a ward how could I possibly judge what all the other mums were calling their babies, how they were dressing them etc [hsmile]

NeedToSleepZZZ · 26/10/2010 10:19

Good Morning everyone!

Haven't been on here for a few days and missed loads!

ledkr hope you're feeling better and have more energy now.

I had my first good night's sleep for ages last night with the brilliant pillow from mumstuff.

Party was actually good on Saturday, there were 2 other pregnant women there so we stuck together. Left at 10:30 as was sooo tired, don't think I'll go out in the evening again as felt washed out since then.

TPT Really pleased as after 3 weeks my bump has grown to 8 sheets [hgrin]. I was getting a little worried...

knittakid · 26/10/2010 10:40

TPT 7.75

expat I've not had to get up in the night for a while now, but yesterday shopping had to go to the loo about every 15 min...

angels1 · 26/10/2010 10:49

TPT I'm back to 9.75 sheets after growing to 10 last week (but then, I measured last week on a bloated post-lunch tummy)

I'm very glad zero has insiders at the hospital I'm due at and it's running to schedule - friends have told me they've been in wards of 10 - 14 people there, all of which with screaming babies all night. Sounds a bit nightmarish to me Confused

Glad needtosleep enjoyed the party [hgrin]

Another bad nights sleep here, but I am getting into the habit of getting up and having breakfast early them going back to bed for an hour, which I've discovered makes me last through the day a little better. I know that must be a distant dream for those of you with children already [hhmm]

I was wondering last night, those of you have already have children - do you ever miss just being a couple/your own person, or are you always completely contented being a mummy? I only ask as I had another panic about how my life will never be the same again last night (not in a bad way, just a bit daunted by the life change that will be upon me).

wigglesrock · 26/10/2010 12:16

Angels I used to do that when I was pregnant with dd1 - get up, eat, walk the dog, get a paper then go back to bed - it was great, really worked a treat at keeping me going throughout the day.

Having children is so different to anything else, its hard to remember what I did with all the time I had before them!! Your life won't be the same again but most of it will be way better. I never really felt that I missed out on couple time but we'd been married for 7 years and together for 13 before I had dd1. You can always make time, dinner, cinema etc but I was really lucky with dd1, she slept a lot, and we had evenings from about 6.30 together.

I found it harder to not feel guilty regarding "me" time but after dd2 realised how much I needed it. By the way I mean proper alone time, not grocery shopping etc Grin

ScMacBt · 26/10/2010 12:23

Afternoon all Grin Also didnt sleep well last night so after dropping ds off at school went back to bed and had an awesome non interuppted by toilet visits or being kicked lumps out of nap for 2 hours :)

Ds has first school disco tonight and also has a date for it, :( worrying seeing as he is 6 but its my best friends wee girl so im sure its all fine haha.
