The old thread was getting quite full so I took the liberty of starting a new one, I hope nobody minds! I thought I'd keep in with our glowing and growing theme (I'm not very creative, sorry).

Morning ladies

Welcome newbies ! and good to see you again earl grey.

Just off to physio this morning to see what they say about my bad back.

If I'm lucky I might manage a trip to mamas and papas to try and get some more clothes - I'm now reduced to one pair of mat jeans that are too big and fal down all the time, a pair of mat trousers that dig in far too much so I can't sit down (so have given up on them) and a dress for work but only one par of tights (doh). I'm a very messy pup so feels like I'm forever washing and with no tumble dryer and cold weather and DH refusing to put the heating on yet this is proving problematic! Do quite secretly fancy dashing to primark now to get wanderingsheeps adult sized baby gro but must resist!

Must dash or I'll be late (in which case I'll blame it all entirely on mn!).

jackinthebump · 30/09/2010 11:01

Hubbard - thanks!

Prof - Thanks, you really are a wealth of knowledge on all things babies aren't you, you could almost charge for all this info!!!:0

byronicheroine · 30/09/2010 12:06

Hello all, and welcome to the new thread :)
Thanks for that info prof you are a fountain of knowledge. There is so much to take in, I haven't even really looked at any clothes/stuff but I'm hoping we're going to be given some things from friends and relations. All the 'donor' babies have been girls tho, and we're having a boy so we are hoping he doesn't get too confused. Although how much will he really care about the colour of his clothes?
Well done, EauRouge on the LLL training, should be fun... or at least interesting!
And WSheep keep talking, we love it!

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 30/09/2010 13:29

Hello all...!

I'm Highlandlass, I'm 28 and live in Richmond, London. And if you hadn't of guessed..I'm a newbie...! :0

So delighted to find this thread.

Looking forward to getting to 'know' you all over the next few months...!

Yeah for February babies! :) :) :)

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 30/09/2010 13:36

Oooh, you're right by Lulabel27 and just a few miles from me and pinkgrasshopper (is she still around?)!

40Weeks · 30/09/2010 15:12

Hi girls, welcome to all the new Mumas. Good to see the thread growing, along with the bumps. Have been madly busy this week with DS2 bday celebrations. Got our new pushchair which I LOVE! Bugaboo, second and but in great nick.

Glad everyone seems to be doing well. Am in total agreement about babygros - they are just soooo cute and comfy and they are in them for such a short time (in terms of their lives) so I say make the most of it! Especially as they puke and poo on everything and are constantly being changed! Although have seen some lovely baby clothes in the shops - even Boots have upped their game and have some nice stuff now!

2 weeks til scan (will be 21 weeks) but think we are going to wait til the birth to know if its pink or blue. My money's on Blue.

My bump has decided its not oging to protude as such, my waist is just getting thicker and thicker so I look pregnant (fat) at every angle except the sideways one which is the one I want!!! Grrrrrr.

Great news on all your scans, hope your back gets sorted angles and work is still okay. My contract is up at end of Nov so will be on mat leave (of sorts) for 3 months! Cant wait thoughGrin

What else is new then?

knittakid · 30/09/2010 15:21

Hello all!
welcome to all the new people! I think my due date is also the 24, not the 23rd, and what a shame that surely it'll be on March, half my family's birthday's are in March...

Well done angels on your day at work!

Finally got letter for scan, it will be next Wednesday, I do hope they can tell us the sex as everyone is desperate to know, even though they are forbiden from buying pink if it is a girl.

Yes those adult babygros sound great, if not for when TTC, could I also have a sleeping hat with a pompom at the end? have always wanted one of those...

ledkr · 30/09/2010 16:04

welcome back earl grey.I have spd quite badly now. Its ok if im resting but who rests with a job and 8 yrs old. We are just about to cycle off to dancing again its non stop.We are cycling back via the chippy tho and i have that new street dance for us to watch on dvd as dh is out for the evening i could do with one of those adult babygros to wear whilst i watch it :o
Re spd i rang physio yesterday and they offered me a "back care class/group" I explained (thru gritted teeth)that i actually was finding it difficult to continue with my life and that i felt i needed more than primary intervention [angry} She then offered me an appointment tomorrow at 11.30 so i wil see if that helps adn if not it will have to be no food and an osteopath.

angels1 · 30/09/2010 16:07

knita I alays giggle as my eccentric neighbour wears a hat with a pompom on bit like a sleeping hat in the winter when he goes out Grin Grin

Found a lovely looking new in dress on mamas and papas web site but not in their store yet www.mamasandpapas.com/product-embellished-dress/s0007621/type-s/ so ordered it online. Also ended out getting bits from new look too so have spent a bit too much on the plastic Confused this afternoon.

Physio was FANTASTIC. Must better than a private one I paid for last year when I had a slipped disc, and I was there for about an hour. Yay for NHS today!! She's given me a back support thingy which said £15 on the box she got it from but said I could have it free (assume people usually have to pay???) and going back next week.

I remember months ago at the infancy of this thread someone mentioned they had previously on one of these done a bump measuring day every week or so with the group where they measured their growing bumps with how many pieces of loo roll it took to get around the tummy. Anyone interested in starting this up? Maybe the person who did this before (if they're still active on the thread) could say how it worked with the stats etc (not sure if prof will want any potential extra stat work).

angels1 · 30/09/2010 16:11

Oh sorry about your spd ledkr - if I would have read your post before writing mine I probably wouldn't have been so boisterous about how great my physio was Blush. I really sympathise from not being able to move and being in constant pain from having a back problem - I hope the appointment is useful tomorrow and let us know how you go.

MizK · 30/09/2010 17:53

Hi all, just thought I'd sneak on here before DP gets home - he always tuts when I'm wasting time online. Hope you are all doing well and welcome to newbies x SPD sounds a complete nightmare ledkr so you have my sympathy - on the plus side you get to watch streetdance tonight - its brilliantly cheesy! Acting tragic but amazing dancing!
Am loving the emergence of proper baby bump and excited about my scan tomorrow - but am genuinely a bit upset by the fact I've gained a stone already. Is that normal/OK? I cant remember what I gained in previous pgs as it seems forever ago (DD is 11 and DS is almost 8) Just worried that its going to be an impossible amount to shift after I have the baby. Anyone else feeling this, hope it doesn't sound impossibly shallow?

40Weeks · 30/09/2010 17:58

Mizk not shallow at all! I am 19 weeks and had gained 7lbs as of last week. You are a few weeks ahead of me I am guessing so its bound to pile on now. I think 2st is normal for the entire pregnancy but am not sure what you should gain at what stage.....I too am worried about shifting it all afterwards Sad

Tarlia · 30/09/2010 18:20

Hi Ladies, I hope you are all well! Sorry, just a flying visit so cannot address everyone personally today.

I just wanted to let you all know, especially angels who was keen to hear, that I survived the GTT today.

It really wasn't as bad as I thought, but rather boring. We all sat around with our feet up, was given a disgusting drink to drink within 5 minutes, (though i hear its lucazade in the UK!? Lucky things!!) and made to sit and read or listen to music etc for 2 hours while our bodies did their magic. We were not allowed to sleep or walk further than the toilet. Thjis was all rather uneventful, nobody fainted or vomitted or any of the other horrors I've heard! After the two hours, she took blood from our ears to text - I was dreading this bit as needles scare me, but it was more of a scratch and i didn't really feel it!

I'm pleased to say I passed with a score of 6.5 - all I got from the woman was, its fine haha. I will get OH to read the letter she gave me later.

My best piece of advice is to stay up late so that when you go to bed you sleep until the alarm goes off, give yourself just enough time to get ready and arrive there in the morning, so that there isn't time to think about food. Then def have a light meal and nap when you get home if you can.

I wont be around much, if at all until Monday, so hope you all have a super weekend!!

TallulahBelly14 · 30/09/2010 18:31

MizK, I think a stone so far sounds about right - apparently the weight gain doesn't speed up, but just continues steadily from now until the little one arrives. So you're perfectly on track. I was worried too, as I'm 10lbs up and I thought I'd start putting on even more weight from now on, but everyone has assured me that's not the case!

And it's not shallow at all to want to get back to 'normal' - I have a few bodycon dresses in my wardrobe that I fully intend on wearing again soon!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 30/09/2010 19:13

Evening all,

Was just wondering after reading Tarlia's post if everyone has to do the GTT test? I'm the same as Angels in that it would really freak me out if I have to do it. My mw is quite good but she hasn't mentioned it to me so was wondering if I can get away without having it.

Also, was wondering if anyone on here is planning/ considering a home birth? I've been given the go ahead for it (all being well) by my consultant but I don't know any women that have successfully done it with their first pregnancies. So if you have any tips then please let me know!

5 days till scan and getting nervous....

NeedToSleepZZZ · 30/09/2010 19:14

Oh, and I love the idea of measuring bumps with toilet roll rather than thinking about weight and inches!!! Grin

Oneof4 · 30/09/2010 19:31

Hi everyone. Haven't been on for a few days as I finally kicked the flu and managed to stagger back to work. If anyone's still suffering from nasal congestion try steaming your head repeatedly - it does great things for the skin too!

We had our 20 week scan today and everything's great. We had a terrible 12 week scan at a private place where they said they thought the head was irrevocably deformed. It took five days to get properly diagnosed, so I was quite apprehensive this time round (ridiculous, I know), but there's absolutely no doubt that this little one has all its features in the right place and is a complete wriggler!

I'm flying to Australia tomorrow night for a last-ditch holiday with my sister and best friend who both emigrated there. Just can't wait. I'm leaving DH behind, which is really sad, but OMG bring on the R&R. I have a dream of just sleeping through the 23 hour flight, but somehow I doubt it'll quite be like that...what are the chances I get to sit next to The Snorer?

Hope everyone else's scans go well. We're about half way through everyone!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 30/09/2010 19:35

No, you'll only have to do the GTT if you have two or more risk factors (e.g. high BMI, family history of diabetes, previous big baby) or if you are consistently showing sugar in your urine tests.

I've heard people say it's Lucozade before, Tarlia, but certainly wasn't for me last time -- it was some drink they made up on the spot from a powder, although I think it may have been yellow like Lucozade.

earlgreyismynectar · 30/09/2010 20:41

Hello everyone! Sorry Ledkr to hear you've also got SPD, good luck at your appointment. I'd be interested to hear what they offer. This lasted (severely) for about 2 weeks in my last pregnancy so I'm hoping it might be the same again but who knows, I'll take it by the day. It's incredible how it saps your energy though, I was in the deepest dream filled sleep last night which is unheard of for me!!! Good on you Ledkr for getting on your bike! I'm hoping to get a bike soon & get more active if this doesn't get worse.

I'm all for bump measurement!! I've loaded on the weight this time! It'll be fun! It was called TOILET PAPER TUESDAY!!! I remember! How about we start next Tues?!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 30/09/2010 21:04

Thank you Professor! Really sorry some of you have to go through it though.

I'm up for TOILET PAPER TUESDAY, sounds like fun! .....I suppose that's the closest thing to fun we're allowed seeing as everything is banned during pregnancy.....

zerominuszero · 30/09/2010 21:10

...so shall we all buy the same brand of toilet roll or just go with what we've got...?

ledkr · 30/09/2010 21:39

earl grey you mean yours actually didnt last? Gosh there's hope for me then, mine went on the entire pg last time even with an osteopath.
mizk Hi. Yep great film but amazingly poor acting and me n dd managed to watch the non 3 d one durrr. Was wondering why the 3 d was not so good haha.I have put on around a stone too.I am very worried about losing it but am hoping to go back to ww and also running around after 2 kids will help. You have big age gaps like me. My eldest is 25!dd is 8 and it is very exciting. Are you finding its all changed tho. Cant eat this and that etc.Apparently no solids until 6 months too, mine were all having agood dinner by then.
angelscheers for the thoughts. Its ok if i dont walk much and cycling is easier.Hope she can help a bit tomorrow.H and m had some nice stuff but i nearly fainted in the cubicle cos i thought a sumo wrestler had come in and it was meeeee Shock

knittakid · 30/09/2010 22:42

Yeeep Toilet paper tuesday! are they all the same size? it would make sense wouldn't it?
Good on you ledkr for still cycling, and it's interesting that it is better for the spd, which much be awful, so sorry you have it!
read my post back and sound horribly shallow, don't really care about gender!
Read today that from week 19 belly grows about a cm a week, and suddenly visualized it and got very very scared, won't my stomach burst? how will it come out?!!!

I was thinking today about a home birth since the pool cannot be guaranteed at the hospital... very risky though given family history. Will discuss it more.
Good night!

byronicheroine · 01/10/2010 09:34

Moooorrrrrrning!! Hope it's a good one. Gran is here, I love being spoilt and she loves being in Greece (while snorkling yesterday she spotted an octopus - but didn't bring it home for dinner!).

Is it Ok for colleagues to blame my mistakes (still in training for job), which I will freely admit to just being me making a mistake, on 'hormones' and me being pregnant? Of course, the only effect that had was to make me huff and feel extra hormonal!

Anyway, 'tis the weekend and I have a midwife appointment later so I get to ask about the hospital facilities and being able to fly home for christmas (think I have timed it just right with maternity leave and flying restrictions).

angels1 · 01/10/2010 10:17

tarlia glad you got through the GTT test alive! I'm hoping my mw will still allow me to be montiored by a diabetes nurse with urine tests instead of the blood test though - really don't want to do it. Tbh I don't even know if I could drink the sugary drink - I've never been able to drink srinks with sugar in as my teeth are so sensitive and at the moment they hurt to even drink water - it'll be murder to have to drink a BIG sugary drink.

byron I've been blaming everything on hormones!!

Toilet roll tuesday sounds good to me - my tummy is now absolutely MASSIVE compared to a few weeks ago,it's quite big enough for me now - it's large enough to look pg but not so big that it's to much in the way - I can't imagine like knitta how I'll cope with it getting bigger and bigger over the coming months.

Hope ledkrs appointment goes well today at physio.

A quickie for those in the know about buggies/travel systems - are blow up tyres (I forget the proper name for them) a really bad idea? We;re looking at a second hand travel system this afternoon to buy from a colluegue but it has the type of wheels that you can blow up (and potentialy can get punctures) and I keep being told how I want to avoid anything with these wheels like the plague incase they puncture. But if we expect the odd puncture, are able to fix them at home but take a spare wheel in the car 'just incase' to change if caught out, its not such a biggie is it? It's a quinny speedi and looks like a really nice system and is good for off roading which is good as we do lots of country walks. Any comments from those who know more than me? Maybe that wasn't such a quickie...
