Have been to GPs this morning as have had crushing headache for 3 days & wanted to rule out pre-eclampsia. My BP is normal and no other symptoms, have been advised to rest and take paracetamol but it isn't touching it....am in agony here....so frustrating.

hmmSleep · 07/09/2010 12:51

4madboys, one of those organics sleepgowns is going cheap on ebay, It's the butterfly design so a bit girly seeing as I don't know what I'm having yet, but thought I'd post link incase you're interested.

comtessa, glad to hear it wasn't early labour, must have been a shock! They do sound strong for braxton hicks.

How horrible the GTT making you feel sick lizardqueenie, presuming alll was OK though?

Keep an eye out for any other signs developing Sabie, I had headaches for a while before getting any of the other symptoms of pre-eclampsia with Dd. My other symptoms, when they came, were raised blood pressure, swollen face, nose bleeds, floaty lights in front of eyes and protein in my urine. Hopefully it won't develop into that, but more importantly hope they stop whatever's causing them, sounds horrid.

lizardqueenie, yup, got a bunch of pictures from the scan. makes the fact that there is a proper lil BABY in there all the more real!

Wallace · 07/09/2010 16:46

Sorry havent been on for ages!

Nighties are so much easier for nighttime chaNGING.

I have been having Braxton Hicks since about 12 weeks, but had some amazingly strong ones on Saturday night. They woke me up and couldn't get back to sleep. Very painful and felt like real early labour pains. They did go eventually but I did dream I was giving birth! I think they were so strong because I had had a very very busy day.

Rinnyx · 07/09/2010 16:59

Thanks for the comments on the photo ladies tho I feel big now even tho people comment on how small I am but just looking at a photo I took at 27 weeks to last night 31 weeks Shock

Rinny You look gorgeous! Envy I am positively whale like in comparison!

Had to go and have my '28wk bloods' done for a third time. First lot the hospital lost and the second came back as 'unsuitable for analysis' Confused so hopefully it'll be a case of 3rd time lucky.

I had a student midwife who was lovely but she couldn't get my blood so had to get a senior midwife to do it. She was so apologetic. I'm 31wks now and not technically due a proper check but she measured me, listened to the heartbeat and felt baby. She's pretty sure baby is transverse so I'm hoping baby moves soon. She recommended trying to get an earlier scan if baby is still suspected transverse at 34wks. I'm due a scan at 37wks due to low placenta but as Ds came at 38wks, she thought it might be wise to have one sooner just incase.

My leg pain has reached new levels Sad and even clothing touching my leg hurts. I've also been suffering with constipation Blush which has never been a problem before. Being veggie, I've never really struggled in the poo department.

I've been having strong braxton hicks for a few weeks now which are a bit of a novelty as I never felt them with Ds. I'm definately bored of being pregnant now and, although I don't want baby too early, any time from 36wks is fine thank you! Grin

Ebb · 07/09/2010 17:11

Rinny the gorgeous comment was about the wedding pic rather than your bare bump, although that is very neat and you look very slim else where. Envy Grin

lizardqueenie · 07/09/2010 18:35

hmmsleep yes I think it was all ok, they send the results on apparantely so will have to wait and see.

A new day brings new problems though - went to the GP this morning for 31 week check up, have had puffy ankles and hands for a week or so now but thought it was par for the pregnant lady course. Anyway, my BP was up, not scarily but it has been creeping up gradually and I had protein in my wee. So the GP took my BP about 7 times, took the best result and asked me to do another wee to send off for testing. Feet have been puffy again today so rather than commuting into London with the other poor sods trying to get through the tube strike I drove to another office and worked from there. He mentioned about pre-eclampsia so I guess I have to wait for the other urine test to come back. Although strange that hmmsleep said about flashing lights, I had that this afternoon, I was sitting down but suddenly saw all of these sparkly bits in front of my eyes. Any advice on what happens now? Do I just wait for the wee test to come back?

Ebb are you drinking lots to help with the constipation? I think it can get a bit difficult sometimes as we feel like we are on the loo every 5 mins anyway but it should help to "move things along"

Sabie · 07/09/2010 19:04

hmmSleep - thanks for advice. I just can't shake it....will keep an eye out for swelling, floaty lights etc....

MadAboutQuavers · 07/09/2010 19:30

Hello ladies.

Am 31+4. No major issues so far, just feeling knackered, heavy and big.

I've just had to chase the cat 8 times around the sofa and 3 times up and down the stairs so I could brush her.

I'm so breathless and exhausted now that i'm going to bed Grin

How you ladies with small DC's manage, I've no idea.

tiany · 07/09/2010 20:12

thanks comtessa that sounds lot worse than what i have been feeling...maybe i am just having very mild BH or its more stretching. If gets worse i will call the m/w

Picking up our buggy on saturday :) i think these last few weeks are starting to fly by!!

4madboys · 07/09/2010 20:17

hmmsleep thanks for the link to ebay, there are loads of lovley baby clothes on there at a reasonable price, very impressed!

well i saw midwife today, all fine tho as i have very itchy hands (eczema related) she had to take some extra blood to check my liver function. i have had itchy hands in all my pregnancies, and each time they have tested my blood and its been fine, so am assuming it will be this time.

bump measured bang on for dates and midwife said baby felt a good size etc, all well :)

lizard if the flashing lights thing continues i would be inclined to call your midwife tbh, esp as you have other signs of pre eclampsia and it can get worse very quickly, so just to be safe i would get yourself checked out (i had to with ds4 when i had horrible headache, they admitted me to labour ward for observation etc, all fine in the end but best to be safe) xx

lizardqueenie · 07/09/2010 20:40

Thanks 4madboys - I am not sure how long the test results will take so I am planning to give them a call tomorrow afternoon to find out how long it will take and then can mention the sparkly lights. Hope I don't seem them again they freak you out a bit.

4madboys · 07/09/2010 20:57

well if you feel headachey and are seeing lights etc this evening then phone STRAIGHT away ok?

and yes def call tomorrow and tell them, its best just to get checked over xxx

smokeybacon · 08/09/2010 11:32

lizardqueenie how are you today? Have you called the MW? I've only just read your post from yesterday and would have told you what 4madboys did and phone straight away. They would much rather have you checked out and nothing be wrong than something be wrong and you not have it checked. Come back though if you can and let us know how you are.

mrsdbridge · 08/09/2010 12:59

Lizardqueenie - I had to do a GTT as well, did it at Basingstoke hospital and it was not a nice experience so I totally sympathise with you!

Had to fast from 9pm the night before up until 1pm the next day, so that made me want to throw up (Ive been very carefull about eating often as I WILL throw up if I dont) then was made to drink the AWFUL and sickly sugar drink that tasted like chalk mixed with sweetners....ewww. Then they couldnt draw blood, tried 4 times unsuccessfully and then it finally worked, in the end, I was pricked to high heavens and felt even more faint.

To date they havent said anything and that was 3 weeks ago so I take it I dont have the pregnancy diabetes which is a relief.

Anyway, GTT tests...awful things! But unfortunately a necessary evil.

Everyone - what are your opinions on people giving you things for the baby? Last week I received some awful looking wall stickers from my 60 year old sister in law (my husband is much older than me) and unfortunately sometimes at that age people start to lose track of what looks good and what doesnt. Now she expects me to put them on the wall but they are so ugly I dont know how Im going to get out of that one. Then another sister in law gave me an old minnie mouse changing bag she got in a charity shop...nice thought, but it looks like its been through a world war and yet again, they will expect me to use it because it was a gift!

Goodness me, why does it all have to be so complicated? I know family are well meaning and I do appreciate they are excited about the bundle but they do make us preggies lives difficult sometimes!

Sabie · 08/09/2010 17:06

lizardqueenie dont mean to be alarmist but I'd go to labour ward for monitoring right now. I have just spent night inhospital with half of your symptoms. Luckily baby is fine and they think its a migraine for me so I have a stash of codeine. Please go & get checked by people who know pregnancy...concerned mumsnetter x

hmmSleep · 08/09/2010 17:22

Just read yor post lizardqueenie, and as others have suggested I would contact the midwife ASAP. Although I have to say, even with all my symptoms with Dd I still wasn't admitted for observation, merely given weekly appointments to keep an eye on things. Then I was rushed to hospital by ambulance at just short of 37wks for an emergency c-section after placental abruption, Hmm, guess they didn't monitor quite closely enough. I do have a tendancy to underplay these things, so make sure you kick up a bit of a fuss and get yourself checked out properly!

lizardqueenie · 08/09/2010 17:56

Hi All, Oh S**t have just come on here and seen your posts- ok latest thing is - my urine test came back today - I called the surgery just to find out when the result would be in and the receptionist told me that it was back today but my GP wasnt around to discuss it. So I told her what it was for (possible PE) she went away and asked the nurse to have a look at it. Then the receptionist came back on the phone and said the nurse said there was "no infection". I said it wasnt being tested for an infection but PE and she said yes she had explained that to the nurse?!

So I was thinking that if the protein had showed up again as it had in the earlier test then wouldnt the surgery have contacted me? Today's ankles and fingers arent too bad, bigger this morning but then have gone down when I have been resting at my test. No dodgy lights or anything like that today but felt a bit heady (not really a headache) so I left work at 4.

From what you have all said I should be straight on the blower to the MW but not really sure what to say now. IS anyone about online to advise? Thanks & apologies for swearing

Sabie · 08/09/2010 18:26

Hi lizardqueenie, I'm here, if you are still around...6.25pm

Sabie · 08/09/2010 18:42

Can you get to your labour ward? I'd phone them, tell them all your symptoms & say that you are worried. I did this with mine (whittington) and they advised I come in and be monitored. I was there for a couple of hours, they monitored the baby as well as me and once we were all satisfied I went home. It was immensely reassuring. (Diagnosis; migraine, Treatment; codeine)

(My only symptoms were a severe headache for 3 days, a few sparkly lights on Sunday for a few seconds and a general feeling of 'not quite right'and they still had me in....)

If you are worried follow the advice on the thread, you have many of the classic symptoms of PE. I basically did the labour ward thing because I was not convinced I had had a proper check/service at the GPs. What are your thoughts about your GPs service?

It's hard not to feel like I'm bullying you into taking more action....I felt the same as you yesterday about not wanting to 'make a fuss/being unsure what I would say'. I spoke to my mum who uttered one sentence:'better safe than sorry'...good luck whatever you decide. (I will check on here later but with a headache can't look at screen for longer than a few mins...)

lizardqueenie · 08/09/2010 19:05

Right, thanks everyone, prompted me to call back the GP's surgery to find out what they wanted me to do next. They asked me to come in so I had my BP done - still the same, this time no protein in my urine (woohoo) and ankles are ok.

Also listened to baby's heartbeat and all was well there.

The GP that I saw was nice and told me to come back straight away if I didnt feel right or if I got headaches or the lights thing started again. He has made me an appointment with him for next Fri to check it all again too and then I will be seeing teh MW the following week. Phew!

Thanks v much for your support everyone, really do appreciate it and I know I will sleep better tonight knowing things are ok.

sabie poor you with the migraine, really feel for you, you need to stay away from bright lights try to drink lots and eat something if you can, bananas always seem to work for my mum when she has a migraine.

We are off to NCT class shortly (like I have the energy after all of this!) Have a nice evening everyone

xx

Rinnyx · 09/09/2010 13:54

haha why thank you Ebb Grin

Has anyone gone into nesting mode yet? I felt the urge the past few days but been so drained after work to act on it but today I have been cleaning like a crazy lady that DP didnt dare ask me to go out and help him today with work Grin
I am forcing myself to relax for half a hour before I clean all the fridge out and hover the carpets.

Oh also if anyone is going on hols even tho its late now I just booked mine with ravenhall
www.ravenhallgroup.co.uk/ had to do it over the phone tho as the purchase part of the site is down but the people were lovely and I can now relax and look forward to Granada in afew weeks :)

comtessa · 09/09/2010 15:44

How are you feeling today lizardqueenie?

Rinnyx I am in delayed-nesting mode. STILL not got a moving date yet and really hope to be exchanging contracts next week. It's just all taking so looooong. And there seems no point tidying our flat as we hope to be out within the next couple of weeks. Want to come and do some cleaning for me? Happy to help anyone indulge their nesting instinct if their house is already clean and tidy. :o

Ebb · 09/09/2010 15:49

I had a message on my answer machine from the Senior GP last night telling me my blood test results had shown my platelets were still low and could I get an appointment today to get checked. Dutifully book an appointment and the GP I saw couldn't access the system neither could the hospital when she rang them direct! Aaarrrrggggghhhhhh! So I had to come home none the wiser. Rang the surgery this afternoon and apparently the Senior GP had taken a phone message and not put it in the system and, of course, he's not in today so they've asked another senior doctor to try and track down the results and see where to go from there. What fun!

Lizard glad everything is ok and fingers crossed it all stays that way. Smile
