hmmsleep you poor thing, you must have a got fright when you fell.. I am glad all is ok apart from the bruise.

Welcome to more newbies, never too late to join!!

Feeling exhausted and a bit sorry for myself today - just ate lots of the Gian Chocolate Buttons Blush - no reason but going to get my hair cut shortly so hoping that will cheer me up :)

rollerbaby · 04/09/2010 14:53

Hmm I didn't mean to type mumcha - that was meant for you!!

grinningbee · 04/09/2010 15:17

Ouchy Hmmsleep. If it's any consolsation, I fell off the curb today and into our car Blush

30 weeks exactly today! Feels like a bit of a countdown now... I really must get some stuff sorted.

I have a bar of dairy milk in the fridge for later. Dropped dh off for a day long pub crawl earlier, and told him to stay with a mate overnight so I don't have to fetch him/deal with him later Grin Apart from when I was in hospital having dd, it's the first night we've spent apart since we met. Once dd is in bed, the sofa and remote are mine all mine. Yay! Is it a myth that there are other channels than sky sports? GrinGrin

In return for said pub crawl, I am going to book myself a nice wash and cut so my hair is halfway decent before ds turns up. Dh took a photo of me minutes after having dd, and although I couldn't have cared at the time, I look like a flaming witch! (Mind you, a 70+ hour labour may also be responsible for that!)

4madboys · 04/09/2010 16:20

how odd, the mothercare lady saying that about the baby bundlers/nighties, my mothercare sells them! they do a pack of two for £10 i saw them last week! didnt buy them as i didnt like the pattern tho! off to look at manuka baby :)

welcome to the new ladies Grin

sorry to hear that so many of you are having so much hip/pelvis pain, i normally get spd in pregnancy, and in my first preg was admitted to hospital it was so bad, i couldnt move :( have had it each time, but never as bad, BUT touchwood, so far this time not even a niggle! dont know why that would be? but i am not complaining, just counting my blessings for now!

sancerrre · 04/09/2010 16:37

Hope the bruising isn't too bad hmmsleep. Relieved to hear I'm not the only one falling over though! Slight dip in pavement - I'll fall over it. Small piece of wayward gravel in road - I'll trip on it.

Also have worrying lack of spacial awareness wrt expanding bump. Parked next to a high curb yesterday so car door only opened limited distance, which looked like loooooadsa room to me. But managed to get myself wedged between car and car door on the way out with slight panic for a while when I could move neither out or back into the car. Didn't look up to see if anyone had noticed. Blush

Time to hibernate I think.

umf · 04/09/2010 20:20

honeymoo - what are these exercises??? Please describe!

hmmSleep · 05/09/2010 13:19

Have just ordered these, one with the frogs and one with ladybirds and matching hats. It was hard to find something unisex. More expensive than I'd have liked, but couldn't resist. The one you linked to would have been perfect honeymoo, just a bit out of my price range.

Sorry umf, couldn't help but giggle at the thought of you wedged in the car door Grin. I keep trying to squeeze between chairs in restaurants etc. forgetting that the bump doesn't actually breath in!

Thanks for reassuring me I'm not the only one being a bit clumsy. When I told my sister she reminded me of the last time I fell down the stairs, I was about 13 yrs old and for some reason had decided it would be amusing to pretend to be a member 0f 'five star' (80's pop group). I had put a coat hanger down my t-shirt to give the desired large shouldered effect, then fallen down the stairs due to tripping over the cat. No-one could understand how I'd managed to entangle myself with a cat and coathanger on my way down Confused Blush.

Going to pack my hospital bag tonight I think or make a start as next weekend is birthdays, same the following and then Spain the weekend after that, September = busy busy!

DP made a lovely comment last night 'your getting massive!' Hmm

4madboys · 05/09/2010 17:29

oh oh dear rinny! how tactful of him Hmm

hmmsleep i have those clothes with the ladybirds and frogs on saved in faves, they are fab arent they! i love the kimono style stripey ones that the same site sells as well, but like you say they are a bit pricey, i may just treat myself tho once my HIP grant comes through Grin

well had my scan today, baby not wanting to pose tho, kept a hand up in front of her face the whole time Hmm BUT scan confirmed the baby is MOST definitely a GIRL! we saw her little 'burgerbun' as the sonographer called it! boys are really pleased to be getting a little sister and i may well go out and buy a few more girly bits now Grin

Rinnyx · 05/09/2010 18:20

Already said on your facebook 4madboys but yay again :)
Going to have alook in the new matalan for girly stuff?
I'm going to get a cheap long nightie in there I think when I get cotbed sheets, only about £5-6 so dont care it will get covered in blood and whatnot Grin I have started and finished my hospital bag for baby and made a start on my bag, mat & breast pads, old dark towel for a shower after

lizardqueenie · 05/09/2010 18:37

Hi everyone

hmmsleep & bee please be careful with yourselves, poor ladies falling over. Although I do think the way that we are now shaped like weebles doesn't really help with balance does it?!

Funny a few of you have mentioned chocolate - I haven't really had any cravings for it all the way through but yesterday managed to sit with cup of tea in one hand, remote in the other and woolf my way through one of those big bars of green and blacks. I couldnt even believe when it was gone! Blush Oh well.

I am going for my GTT tomorrow - the hospital forgot to write to me apparently so I am having it at 31 weeks rather than 28, hopefully yesterday's chocolate fest won't have affected the result! Anyone else had the test? Not really sure how I am going to feel at 12.30 tomorrow having not eaten anything except for some lucozade Confused

honeymoo def interested to hear about your stretches! I am still going to antenatal yoga which has been great and a nice way to meet a couple of other mums to be locally but am up for all the help/ advice I can get.

Talking of mothercare, DH and I went there on Fri evening (very rock and roll) to order the cotbed after finding one we both really liked on special offer. OMG it was painful ordering it - just because the shop assistant in there was so so clueless. It took us half an hour! I only persevered as they had promised a further discount for ordering in the shop but sheesh it was long winded.

Have also started to get myself a bit more organised, been to boots today and bought a few more bits and bobs, last night got sheets from John Lewis.

cluelessnchaos · 05/09/2010 19:57

Agh you are all so organised, I am still hoping for a homebirth but won't be confirmed til 34 week appt with consultant, I must pack a hospital bag just in case but to the previous home birthers what do I need to get ready, I ordered new sheets today as all ours are crisp White and where do you tend to give birth, in a bedroom or somewhere else?

rollerbaby · 05/09/2010 21:06

clueless I think you can pretty much give birth whereever you feel most comfy and safe... I'm hoping for the same thing. There are lots of threads with advice on what to go, but I also think the MWs will bring you stuff beforehand. I'm going to get plastic sheeting and old duvets for comfort on the living room floor and prob stick the waterpool in there too.

umf ok here goes. Obviously I can't guarantee these will work for everyone, esp if you have very bad SPD but worked for me having inflamed ligaments all round my pelvis.

  1. Kneel down on the floor and sit back on your heels. Lean right forward with your hands stretched out in front of you as far as you can so you can really stretch your bum and lower back. Hold for 10 secs.

  2. Lie on your back with your knees bent with feet flat on the floor. LEt your legs fall open so you are gently stretching the muscles in your groin crease (i.e that run diagonally beneath your pubis and join your legs). Again hold for 30 secs. Then move your feet down a bit so your legs are ever so slightly less bent and then do the same agin - i.e. let legs fall open and hold. Then move feet down again further and let legs fall open and hold. Eventually your legs wll be more or less flat on the floor and you can stop.

  3. Hold onto stair banister or something very stable. Hang on with both hands and lean right back so that you are bending your knees and all your weight is being supported by your arms. FEel stretch deep in your bum.

I have to say I was a bit cynical when she showed me these as they are so simple, but I did them religiously every day and it really bloody worked! LEt me know if that doesn't make sense!

rollerbaby · 05/09/2010 21:08

On exercise 1 - your hands should be stretched forward touching the floor btw.

tiany · 05/09/2010 21:15

rinny you look great in that photo!

I am feeling more organised now.. have last few bits ordered apart from baby bath - buggy, furniture should arrive over the next two wks... and have started on hospital bags for both baby and me.... old towel, hadnt thought of that will pop one in!!

grinningbee · 06/09/2010 09:26

Lizard I have had the GTT. I failed the fingerprick test - the cut off at our hospital is 4.7, and I was 4.9, so had to drink lucozade and wait another two flaming hours. Cut off the second time was 7.9 I think, and I was 7.0 so passed. Hurrah!

It isn't nice and you do feel a bit manky for a while - take some choc or cereal bars with you for straight afterwards.

Good luck!

lizardqueenie · 06/09/2010 09:30

Thanks bee I have got my mum to take me - she has been itching to get involved and have something to do so this is it! I have had such bad morning sickness I am a bit afraid of what state I might be in after not eating for a while, I literally think food as soon as my eyes blink open these days! The belly is already rumbling - i can imagine the baby tapping its feet waiting for the food to arrive!

Vix7 · 06/09/2010 12:08

hullo all!

rinny, looking good in the photo!

hmmsleep, qn: what exactly are the baby nightgowns for? if the baby is going to be swaddled up to sleep, won't the nightgowns be pointless? sorry for the silly questions, still trying to muddle my way through all the different baby clothes!

a bit annoyed cos the lady who is supposed to sell me her moses basket and stand still hasn't got back to me! in the mean time i've turned down a couple of other offers from really nice moms who've offered me theirs but emailed me after this first offer.

had a 3/4d scan on fri and it was amazing! to see the features on the bump's face just pop out from the regular 2d scan. we've agreed the bump's nose is like neither parents, i think it's like my sister's, but the chin is definitely ours.

hmmSleep · 06/09/2010 13:50

Sorry to hear those you having the GTT, doesn't sound much fun, hopefully all results will turn out well.

Vix7, Usually they'd be in a bodysuit and sleepsuit as well as being swaddled, (at first it does seem alot of clothing, especially in a hot hospital ward, but have been assured that's what they need). Instead of the sleepsuit I prefer nightgowns, purely because I find it easier to do all those night nappy changes. Also when they're tiny their little froggy legs don't seem to co-operate when trying to get them to stay in sleepsuit legs. Purely a personal choice though.

The 3D scans sound great, how nice to get a proper look at you little one.

Great photo rinny, you look fab!

Hello new-joiners and welcome. If any of you are in Nottingham, we're arranging a Nottingham meet-up. The thread is here

Hmmsleep, hope you're feeling okay now.

I had my first Braxton Hicks on Friday which was rather terrifying surprising. Called midwife, expecting to be told it was nothing. She said: "It's probably not early labour, but ..."
Cue panic, trip to labour suite, and three hours in hospital. Thankfully everything fine. Continue to be greatly appreciative of general attitude of staff there who told DH and I that we were right to come in, and if it happens again and we're worried, then to come in again. I keep on expecting at anytime to be told I'm fussing over nothing but not so far.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

comtessa · 06/09/2010 13:53

PS 4madboys Congratulations on definitely-a-girl!

rollerbaby · 06/09/2010 16:39

Crikey comtessa that sounds scary... have yet to have a BH. Not especially looking forward to it!

tiany · 06/09/2010 21:12

wow comtessa, what did the Braxton Hicks feel like... i had like mild period pains today and was thinking it might be that. Stopped after an hour or so... ??

lizardqueenie · 06/09/2010 21:40

The GTT was vile! I can't say it enough! My fasting was 4.2 but still had to go through and have the disgusting drink. managed to keep it down for about an hour and then just had to be sick. God it was awful.

Vix - your scan sounds nice, how sweet, did you get pics to take home?

Comtessa- thats nice that the hospital have been supportive and reassuring rather than than being annoyed with you for asking.

comtessa · 07/09/2010 09:44

Tiany it felt like a band being tightened around the widest part of my bump (hence the name "contractions" as I suddenly realised afterwards in a light-bulb sort of moment :o and Blush ), and felt at first uncomfortable, becoming downright painful, in waves.

The research I did said to rest, or have a bath, and if they're just BH they'll subside. However after a half-an-hour in bed they were still painful, which is when I called the MW and then labour suite at the hospital. May have been a bit PFB about it all, but it was rather scary at the time.
