Oooh, rinnyx, Granada's lovely, I lived there for a while, am very jealous. Can recommend spending some time in the moroccan style tetorias (tea shops) in the Albaicin, nice and relaxing.

Finally found out yesterday that we're having a boy, he's been being shy and hiding, doesn't get that from his father. Slightly worryingly though, his head is measuring 34 weeks and I'm only 29 weeks Hmm so if anyone has any stories of this happening to them and being followed by nice relaxing natural births with no injuries, I'd be very interested to hear!

Ebb · 09/09/2010 17:00

My platelets came back at 75. They were 140 at booking in bloods. Have to go for another blood test on Monday for a more indepth check and also do a urine sample. Feeling a bit down about it all but I know some of you on here have had really low platelets and not had a problem so trying to stay positive. Smile

4madboys · 09/09/2010 17:16

Ebb no idea about what low platelets mean, is it something to do with blood clotting etc? hopefully it wont be a problem xxx

sancerre congrats on your boy, boys are FABULOUS (and i should know!) Grin

oh and re head measurements, all 4 of my boys were born with BIG heads, ds4's head circumference was OFF the top of the chart Shock he was 10lb 13oz as well! but i had a very quick, easy labour, delivered in the birth pool and didnt tear at all :) so i hope thats the kind of birth story you want to hear?

seriously it was fine! the only thing was that lots of the little baby hats i had didnt fit him! he had some lovely little outfits that came with matching hats, one of which i insisted on putting him in and taking a picture, and then when i took the hat off he had a red line across his forehead where it had been too tight Blush but it was sooo cute that he HAD to wear it at least once!

Rinny, i have been nesting for the last few weeks, did a major clean in the bathroom and kitchen, of course with 4boys i am ALWAYS cleaning and tidying, but i have blitzed the boys bedrooms, sorted baby clothes and will be doing plenty more over the next few weeks, dp keeps telling me not to overdo things, he is worried i will get too tired etc, but i really HAVE to and i am considering seeing if i can stretch our budget to pay for a cleaner to come in just before baby is due to do the really good clean of the tiles/cooker/cupboards etc in the kitchen. infact i may try and ring round next week and get a few quotes just to see how expensive it is.

harmonyb23 · 09/09/2010 18:46

Hey everyone, had my 29 week booking appointment last week. Had my bloods done and got to listen to the baby's heartbeat again. Bloods all came back normal and my bump measured 28 1/2cm which is practically perfect for 29 weeks. Am so glad everything is normal. Sorry to hear that bloods etc. are a problem for others and I hope everything turns out OK.

4MadBoys I too have been nesting like mad, scrubbed the kitchen and bathroom floors by hand yesterday and have completed all the ironing and washing of clothes. I have also washed the walls, been sorting through all of DS's all old toys etc. Really weird to have the urge to clean as usually I am really lazy about it!!! Must be nesting!

Also been busy baking and preserving. Made a chocolate courgette cake yesterday, don't normally like chocolate cake but had real cravings for it the last week. The cake is gorgeous, so nice and moist because of the courgettes and the dark chocolate icing is so rich and scrumptious, might go and have another slice!!!

Hope everyone is well.... x x x

sancerrre · 09/09/2010 20:13

Awww, thank you 4madboys, that's exactly what I need to hear Smile Thanks for the tips on hats too. I'll cross newborn size hats off my shopping list and go straight for the bigger sizes!

lizardqueenie · 09/09/2010 21:57

Hello all

Feeling ok today thankyou, well apart from some really strange craving that came over me this afternoon and I havent had any so far, but I really wanted to bite into a bar of soap, specifically imperial leather, which i dont even use/ have at home. Sorry if that has made anyone feel unwell.

Rinnyx ooh what a lovely time to be going away! I am not nesting really, just waiting until I finish work to start all of those things!

lizardqueenie · 09/09/2010 22:01

ebb sorry to hear aout your blood test results, I too don't know much about this medical problem, what is the next step now that you have had these results?

sancerrre congratulations on finding out you are having boy!

harmony that cake sounds lovely!

bunnygirl80 · 09/09/2010 23:51

sancerre congrats on the boy

ebb hope you get some answers from the doctors

I'm starting to get the nesting urge. Have cleared out a load of cupboards, and finally got rid of the boxes that were left behind when we moved house over 6 months ago Blush Like harmony I've also got a strong urge to bake things....I normally only bake once or twice a year, but obviously the baby's telling me he needs home made cake Grin

hmmSleep · 10/09/2010 04:31

Hi all, up trying to take my mind off excruciating back pain. Going to try and see gp tomorrow. Think I've just pulled something, probably lifting and pulling a 3 yr old around on his scooter, but want to rule out a kidney infection.

ebb, hope your platelets count gets better, am I right in thinking the main concern is excessive bleeding during and after birth? I had low platelets with Dd, and although I had other problems I didn't have any bleeding problems, so fingers crossed all will be fine for you.

As for nesting, it would appear I'm fighting any urges rather well (looks around tip of a house). Really need to get on top of things, but will have to wait for back to improve now!

OP posts:
grinningbee · 10/09/2010 08:53

Morning all!

Has anyone seen my brain laying around, as I appear to have lost it. I made a curry the other night while making dd's tea. Burnt the onions but they were salvageable... turned off the wrong ring when dd's tea was cooked, and thought I'd put the curry back on again to simmer on number 2.

About 10 minutes later while feeding her I realised there was loud bubbling coming from the kitchen - I had put the ring onto 5 not 2... cue burnt curry in pan, with liberal splashings up the wall and over the cooker.

Nice!

As for nesting, I seem to have a strange urge to clean the skirting boards. Very strange!

Hope everyone is feeling ok today. I have a rotten stinking cold and sore throat, and cake seems to be the only medication you're allowed when pg Grin

Oh yes - I actually bought a couple of packs of maternity pads yesterday. Does that count as starting to be organised?

GrinGrin

Ebb · 10/09/2010 09:58

Thanks everyone. Yes, hmmsleep I think the main concern is bleeding which is why they don't like to give you an epidural due to the risk of bleeding round the spine apparently. I think low platelets can also be a symptom of pre eclampsia and hellp syndrome. My BP has always been good though and tends to be on the low side.

They are doing more indepth tests on blood and urine samples and I'll see the Doctor on Weds so hopefully get some answers. I think the majority of women with low platelets are fine and deliver naturally so hopefully it'll be fine. At the end of the day as long as baby and I are fine, my ideal of water birth in the MLU can fly out the window.

Grinningbee I'm getting a cold, I'd better go stock up on cake...... Grin

I've bought a couple of packs of maternity pads and washed all Ds's baby clothes - loads of neutral stuff - just need to find the moses basket and wash the cover and that'll do if baby decides to come early.

cowes · 10/09/2010 12:19

Hi Everyone due in Nov! It's my first and the past 4 weeks for some reason I have been flooded with irrational fear and taken such a turn for the worse that the docs put me on AD's. Really sad about that but still seem to have no emotion other than fear and uncontrollable crying. DH is being amazing - AMAZING! and I feel so guilty for ruining his experience and so fearful that these emotions might mean I don't really want it...but it was much planned and we are happily married and he is very much looking forward to #1's arrival. Am I going crazy or could it just be a combination of hormones and depression? Anyone else in the fear boat with child number one? xxx

hmmSleep · 10/09/2010 14:48

Hi Cowes so sorry to hear you're feeling so down, it is a scary time even without all those hormones and tiredness to tip us over. It's great that you've got help from the gp though, and a wonderful Dh to support you. Hope the ADs help. I've had my fair few teary, down moments, and this is number 3 for me. Just keep reminding yourself it's not your fault, your body does funny things when you're pregnant, and that includes to your emotions! So stop feeling guilty and I hope you start feeling better really soon. Make sure you get lots of cuddles from your Dh!

Was given codeine by gp this morning for back pain, she checked my urine and doesn't think it's a kidney infection (hurray) but is sending off for tests just in case. Problem now is the codeine is making me feel really sick, so need to decide which is worse, back pain or sickness Confused, pregnancy hey!

OP posts:
cowes · 10/09/2010 15:18

You poor thing hmmSleep. And this is number 3! I think cos this is number 1 I am daunted by all the things about married life not just being the two of us anymore and you never know how your emotions are going to make you feel until you are actually there do you? It helps to know I am not going crazy yet at the same time I just want to be getting excited and I just can't seem to be anything but frozen with fear.
Good luck with the codeine.

Sabie · 10/09/2010 15:43

Hi cowes; think overwhelmimg fear is not unusual. My first baby too; have panicky moments....

Not been a good week this week; with the migraine, then Dr was worried I was having some kind of stroke so ended up having MRI yesterday...luckily all clear but have now found a problem with my liver function so have to have on going monitoring. GP has signed me off work for another week; which is good but I know there are things my team need me to handover....and I'm really worried HR are going to insist I have started maternity leave when actually I want to finish much later to have maximum time with the baby. And it was all going so well up until now.....

hmmSleep; how many codeine tablets they give you? I got 100 for migraine which seems a bit excessive...they are a bit addictive!

Ebb · 10/09/2010 17:00

Mumcha How are you doing? Hoping everything is ok and you are resting. Smile

cowes · 10/09/2010 17:08

Sabie I know what you mean. I was doing so well in the 2nd trimester and feel so guilty that I can't share my husbands excitement at meeting the new arrival. I am so scared and confused. I don't want to feel I don't want it, I want to feel it's just hormones and depression - but then no one will ever know til they have it will they? x

Threelittleducks · 11/09/2010 15:32

Hi all, hope all are well and bloooooooming!!!

Had a fantastic time on Thursday. Contractions started at 9 a.m, painful and frequent. Took ds to playgroup as per usual (thought it best not to panic).
Did however start to panic as soon as playgroup finished as was in a lot of pain by this point. Phoned triage who said to go in to be checked over. So we got in my mum's car and headed up to hospital, collecting notes on the way.

LONGEST car journey of my life - was in so much pain and every bump in the road was making it worse! Really thought that was it.

So we FINALLY get to the hospital (having picked dh up on the way) and there's a bloody evacuation going on - not letting anyone in!! First fire at the hospital in it's 36 year history!!
Was really struggling at this point, so dh ran around to labour suite, who said we could go in that way, which was a huge walk. So did this while grasping poor dh for dear life.

Got into triage bit and hooked up to monitors etc...very scary. Lots of tightenings, very regular, worse when walking. They did a test to determine whether I was in fact in premature labour - but by the time the doc came up to do it we had been there long enough to have lunch and everything! And the contractions had died down. Still happening, but less painful.

SO!

Was discharged, told to take lots of paracetamol and rest and just wait and see.

So have spent all weekend on tenterhooks - every niggle leaves me terrified!

Have to admit am a little disappointed that nothing has happened - felt like a bit of a fool having panicked everybody and then for it to come to nothing. But am seriously glad that bubba has decided to stay put for now - much better for him, obviously!!

Really hate when stuff like this happens - def given us a kick up the arse with the whole preparation though - it really hit home that it really can be at any time now!!

hmmSleep · 11/09/2010 16:01

Shock Threelittleduck! Not sure what else to say really, just Shock! Keep those feet up and legs crossed to keep that little one in a bit longer! And keep us up to date Grin.

OP posts:
Ebb · 11/09/2010 16:58

Threelittleducks What drama! Shock I'm glad little one is staying put for the time being and that you're ok. I'm tentatively going to a get a basic bag packed next week just incase something happens. That'll probably guarantee I go over due! Hmm Grin

tiany · 11/09/2010 18:21

wow threelittleducks that must have been a bit scary but am glad u are both ok and little bub is staying in there for a while longer. My bag is half back, got out buggy, carseat and baby bjorn today.. some furniture arriving this and hopefully cot comes the week after. Feeling lot more organised!!

Think my little one is going through massive growth spurt... i have out on weight and feels like my tummy being stretched more this wk too...

Booked in for a massage tomorrow, will be painful but always feels better after :)

llandb · 11/09/2010 22:05

Hi everyone, sorry haven't been around much. Just completely wiped out with this one and so my online time (DD's nap) is as often as not my nap too (wimpy SAHM luxury).

Hello to the new people! :)
Still have very good intentions of catching up on this thread - er, some time....

Just quickly glancing back at this page -

Threelittleducks blimey! Glad everything is ok so far - and a fire drill, too; that's the stuff soap operas are made of! 'Course you were right to panic everyone - if it had gone differently you'd have been very glad you'd gone in, and you gave them all another drill! Defo keep us posted.

lizardqueenie, speaking of soaps, :o at your craving!

I seem to get aversions rather than cravings, unless you count a desire for chocolate - but that's just normal rather than a craving as such, isn't it?
Still, you've got me hankering after the nice minty piece of Lush Demon in the Dark soap that I got to give to someone else and kept for myself forgot to give them.
Glad all tests have been ok for now- fingers crossed it stays that way.

Ebb Fingers crossed your more in-depth tests come back with the desired result (I don't know much about this problem either but hope you can still have the birth you want)

cowes hi - sorry you're going through this and hope things improve for you!

hmm ouch! glad it doesn't seem to be kidneys but surely there is something that can be done other than codeine (or would that mean being referred to physio and hence long waiting list?) I asked GP for advice as to whether I was allowed to do my back-injury exercises while preg and he said go ahead - but that if I wanted to talk to a physio and bypass the months-long waiting list, I could try a local free drop-in assessment clinic (had never heard of such a thing) - worth checking if you have one locally?

grinningbee could you have a look for my brain while you're there? Can't seem to string two sentences together IRL!

grinningbee and Ebb and anyone else with the dreaded lurgey - Hope cake cures it - sugar is a vegetable and therefore very healthy! :o

News from the llandb front - well, 2nd trimester bloom, fiddlesticks! :o
Didn't get burst of energy last time round till 7 months (when morning sickness finally stopped) and hope to get one at 7 months this time but hasn't happened yet.

Also puffing and blowing like a pack-a-day habit with this one, and all faint and tired. MW was worried and told me to see GP (as it could have been a sign of pre-eclampsia or pulmonary embolism), but it turns out I just have an annoyingly high pulse rate and nothing else wrong. Keep meeting/hearing of other people who have been similarly puffed and tired and wonder why I didn't know about it before!

Moving house in two weeks - a bit conflicted as the new place is much bigger and it will be nice to have more space, but the street is much busier than ours (currently in a quiet, child-friendly cul-de-sac, but with very small houses). Looking forward to exciting discoveries of long-lost possessions (and no doubt the occasional giant house spider).

Rinnyx · 13/09/2010 11:33

I seem to post and then miss afew days haha but had a quick scan over posts and glad I am not the only one nesting, I told my mum and she said it was to soon for all that then said how she thought I should not go to Spain next week, I am going haha I want my last hol before DS says hello.
Cant believe I only have 8 weeks left, fears of giving birth have fully kicked in now :(

wow Threelittleducks that sounds scary but glad LO wants to stay in abit longer :)

Good luck with the move llandb hope it all goes as smooth as can be :)

Loooopy · 13/09/2010 15:21

just a quick posting, re antenatal classes, what are you all doing?

we booked for NCT classes which we are half way through, and had also booked for the free classes at the doctors. However, they are in the daytime and would involve DP taking 2 days off work. We are now wondering if it is worth doing the doctors ones still or not?

any opinions?

mumandstudent · 13/09/2010 15:34

would you be interested?

I am looking for a mum & baby who would be happy for me to visit for 1 hour a week?

I am a mum and a student in my final year of training as an adult Psychotherapist.

I would be an interested, regular but non-intrusive visitor, and usually mum and baby really enjoy the experience.

Learning about child development in this unique way is central to my training, and mum and baby usually appreciate the calm, weekly visits.

If you are interested please reply to this thread - thank you:)
