hmmm quiet on here today - where is everyone??

Hope you are all well and enjoying lovely sunday's? can't believe we have had so many babies since I last checked - congrats to all you new mummies Grin

i had my baby shower yesterday, which was lovely we all baked yummy bread and cakes beforehand then prmptly stuffed ourselves silly, played baby related games, drank some bubbly. got some lovely gifts for the LO, and generally had a lovely time.

today have been suffering badly with my SPD so am vegging on the sofa currently watching a dodgy 80s horror movie Shock.

also think we have mice Shock Shock Confused [unimpressed smiley]. we have heard scratching and rustling on and off for a few weeks under the floor in our bedroom, but it has got a lot worse in the last couple of days and keeping me awake, can hear them gnawing and scratching, sounding very close to my head when I sleep.
thankfully there is no evidence of them entering the flat yet (no droppings or sightings) but am guessing it's just a matter of time.
have tried to impress this upon my landlady, who helpfully Hmm suggested we lay bait or traps - not really going to help if they are just nesting under the floor and getting their food from elsewhere.
have just written a strongly worded email explaining that it has to be rectified BEFORE baby is here (am 36w today) ... hopefully this will get her into action.
the thought of mice in the bedroom when the baby is here horrifies me!

tanmu82 · 24/10/2010 19:34

uurrrgggh, that sounds horrible lainey. I remember when I was at uni we had mice in our house in the 2nd year. I could hear them scratching and gnawing in the walls and felt like any moment they would come bursting out and crawl all over me! Our landlord was crap too and brought around dusty old bait that the mice ate and still came back for more!

When my cousin found mice in her flat, she used one of these devices if you already have an infestation, it still needs to be dealt with, but once that's sorted, you can plug this in and be mouse free hopefully!

38 weeks on tues and really want baby to just hurry up and come out to meet the family :)

Babybean1 · 24/10/2010 21:48

Very quiet this weekend.....hope everyone is ok :)

Anyone else feeling hormonal and emotional these days or is it just me?
Over the last few days have i felt quite tearful about stupid things and probably take things the wrong way when I wouldn't normally!! Not sure if it's because I feel like its a waiting game now and guess a bit of frustration is setting in as well as not knowing what is coming! Annoyed at myself as I feel I should be making the most of the last week or so with just DH and me (maybe less of course!) and feel happy with all the lovely things to come!!......anyone whose had babies before get like this before labour is about to start??? (hopeful smily!!)

lizardqueenie · 24/10/2010 22:12

Wow! Havent been on here for ages and look at all the new mummies! Congratulations to everyone who has already popped! Need to have a good old read back through about 4 weeks of posts!

I think I last stuck my head around the door when I asked some of you lovely ladies for advice on high bp and pre-eclampsia. Well since then its been pretty non-stop backwards and forwards to the hospital as they are keeping a v close eye on me and the bump. Really pleased I have made it to 38 weeks (well tomorrow I will) as they were originally talking about C section at 35w. This week I should find out when the hospital plan to induce I am going to try to push it to 39w and then hope i go into labour naturally between now and then. have made the effort to shave my legs and tidy other areas ahem [hblush] - so I am hoping that this baby decides to make an appearance before everything gets all spiky again!

grinningbee · 25/10/2010 06:26

Glad you've got so far lizardqueenie, know what you mean about tidying up Grin

I've had a lovely weekend. Dh booked me in to have a hair cut, and when I was sat down they brought me out the biggest bouquet of gorgeous flowers from him too! How I didn't become a blubbering mess I still don't know.

Yesterday we went and picked up the tandem pram we won on ebay, such a bargain! Practically brand new, and we got it for £20, I'm really chuffed. It's a little bit heavy, but it'll be fine I'm sure. Spent a few hours wandering up and down the coast in Hunstanton seeing as it was close to where we had to collect. My goodness it was freezing!

I'd love to say being emotional is a sign of labour... sadly, it isn't for me or I'd have had this baby months ago Grin

Bathroom being ripped out today. What fun! I've been up since 4.30, and didn't get to sleep till after midnight. Gonna be a gooooooood day... HmmGrin

AddictedIsFeelingHappy · 25/10/2010 06:44

morning all just popping in to see how your all doing

Good luck with the bathroom grinningbee, it sounds like in in for a fun day

cluelessnchaos · 25/10/2010 09:14

Scan day today, then on into town to get my eyebrows threaded and nandos, I am not tidying up the nether regions, I figure since it's out of sight I am likely to do more damage than good and I won't inflict it on anyone who isn't delivering my baby.

cluelessnchaos · 25/10/2010 09:15

What's going on with all the bathrooms is it the male form of nesting?

lulastic · 25/10/2010 09:16

Lainey I can empathise- we have a little mouse in our kitchen, she boldly stalks around ignoring all our traps.

Grinningbee hope you cope today with bathroom being done- focus on the lovley end result! Our plasterers arrived bright and early this morning, they'll be here for three days. I'm just trying to think of those lovely smooth skimmed walls we'll have on Wednesday!

Babybean- i am totally emo, just this last week, have been cross, sad, euphoric all in the space of 10 minutes. It is weird as I genuinely haven;t felt much emotion but contentedness since being pregnant.

grinningbee · 25/10/2010 10:02

Ohhh nandos.... yummy! Good luck with the scan too Clueless

The plumbers have just removed the loo after saying it was my last chance to go. I didn't a minute ago... but now of course I do!

I need to think non weeing thoughts Hmm as water is off till after lunch. I can only hope they put the new loo in soon. Help!!

harmonyb23 · 25/10/2010 10:27

lol... Grinningbee what a nightmare!

I am not doing much this week, half term is always a bit of a palaver as need to find things to entertain a 7 year old boy which don't involve him staring at the TV playing video games. Have decided today to do some arts and crafts! We're making halloween cushions, cards and hanging decorations. We have got chinese lanterns to decorate for halloween too but the paint is in the loft and I am not even going to contemplate going up there!!

Then we have decided that this weekend 29th to 31st is going to be the weekend we decorate DS bedroom. My mum and dad are having him for the weekend and DP and friends are going to do the hard work while I supervise [hwink]. It's going to be a surprise for DS as he doesn't have a clue that we're planning on decorating, just hope he likes it [hsmile].

Baby seems to have gone quiet this morning. Last night it was having an almighty wriggle, kicking and rolling around. But this morning he seems to be moving a lot less, just an arm and a leg here and there, probably the calm before the storm and he'll no doubt be kicking later, making me feel very sick again [hsad]

Well I hope everyone is well, good luck at your scan clueless.

comtessa · 25/10/2010 13:08

Hello all,

What a lovely surprise for your DS harmonyb23, I'm sure he'll love whatever you choose.

Crossing my legs on your behalf grinningbee...

Cluelessnchaos, must be the day for it. Had my eyebrows threaded and tinted this morning. Also had eyelashes tinted but I'm not sure I can see much of a difference on them. Clearly it's not the same as piling on the mascara! I'm with you on the nether-regions-can-stay-au-naturel. I had that area waxed a couple of months ago and it's definitely more painful than pre-pregnancy! Hope your scan goes well today.

That's great news about getting as far as you have done lizardqueenie, I hope you get the birth you want.

Today's my first day of maternity leave and am starting in style by... washing the sheets, starting to wash baby clothes and waiting in for e-on engineer. However I did have my ten minutes at the salon this morning have booked pedicure for next Monday :) I'm making the next few weeks as much of a holiday as I can - between arranging things in our new house and general housework - as I know it's going to be a while before I get a peaceful time like this again. Second ante-natal class tonight - can't wait!

Hope everyone's got sunshine where they are - it's beautiful here in Nottingham today.

CardiCorgi · 25/10/2010 13:11

cluelessnchaos It could be. We had work done on our bathroom a few weeks ago. All done now, thank goodness. Now I want DH to get the new-sofa nesting urge. We've agreed that we need one, but deciding what to get is not that easy.

Went rowing yesterday as it was the end of season gathering. The old men's VIII needed a cox, so I wrapped up warm and steered them after being assured that there were two doctors on board, so if I went into labour I would be fine! DH reported that when we had set off for our row, one of my crew from a few years ago sidled up to him and asked if I was possibly pregnant - clearly two jumpers and a rain jacket managed to obscure the bump enough that he could be sure, although really, he should be getting his eyes tested if he couldn't tell.

Still working, although concentration is at an all-time low.

grinningbee · 25/10/2010 13:26

I really need a widdle. I am considering all the household objects I can use instead now.

This is silly!

CardiCorgi · 25/10/2010 13:39

You must have a bucket somewhere. Maybe the plumbers have one they would lend you?

hmmSleep · 25/10/2010 14:28

OOouuuch!!!!! Big swolen, lumpy, engorged breasts!!! Cabbage leaves? Hmm Forgot how painful they are to begin with. That is all Grin.

grinningbee · 25/10/2010 14:53

Ooooh hmmsleep I still remember dh's face when my milk came in. To him it was like all his birthdays and xmases had come at once - he was speechless!

Bloody hurts though, doesn't it.

I finally got to have a wee half an hour ago (I like to share Grin) Oh the relief!

Plumbers are still fitting stuff and drilling holes, but I don't care now I've been Grin

AddictedIsFeelingHappy · 25/10/2010 14:59

grinning did you manage to find somewhere to wee?

Clueless howd it go?

Right which is better for inducing labour, tinned pineapple or fresh? I know you need to eat a lot, i'm planning on buying alot!! I've been having regular tightnings since 6pm last night, not painfull, most of the time just uncomfortable. So i'm going to do a 30 minute walk to the supermarket, buy lots of pineapple and so a 30 minute walk home again...so which is better? Any ideas? Does juice work just as well or does it have to be chunks?

AddictedIsFeelingHappy · 25/10/2010 15:03

x post grinning, glad you managed to have a wee! [hgrin]

grinningbee · 25/10/2010 15:13

Not as glad as me addicted!

Sounds promising, the tightenings. I heard fresh was better, but that you needed to eat about 6 whole ones for any effect at all. Mind you, the effect it would have on my tum would be interesting. Eeeek.

Walking should be good too.

Pidgin · 25/10/2010 15:51

addicted I also heard fresh is best, and at NCT the teacher said you would need to eat 8 a day to get the full effect ... but no harm chomping away on as much as you can manage and seeing what happens!

clueless I reckon you're right - we had work done to shower room a couple of weeks ago. Now I have decided I want the rest of the tiling done, but cannot face organising it with baby so near - will just have to live with it! Hope you survived eyebrows - I had mine threaded last week and came out thinking, 'I hope labour doesn't hurt as much as that'...

It's my first day of mat leave too comtessa, am v much enjoying it - right now am making a proper chicken stock for risotto tonight. Maybe I should make it pineapple risotto... also went for two walks, 1hr15 in total, am hoping this will move things along.

Sorry to hear about sore bosoms hmm! Hope the cabbage is helping.

Tis beautiful and sunny here today too, putting me in v good mood, hurrah.

Rinnyx · 25/10/2010 17:44

38 weeks today and well and truly in the fed up stage now.
Tried to pass the time today by mopping all the floors on top of usal housework and watching tim burtons alice in wonderland.

Dont you just love the waiting game Hmm

cluelessnchaos · 25/10/2010 17:52

All went well at the hospital babys head is down and the baby is not mega big, home birth a go go, nandos was lovely, eyebrows look gorgeous, bought raspberry leaf capsules walked for miles, I just need dh home from the rig and it will be all go, and I have had three phonecalls from work saying they need me, it's lovely to be needed, plus the kids went back to school after their two weeks off.

I am really feeling for you all without bathrooms, warm baths are my friend, according to my very scientific studies I sleep better after a warm bath.

Threelittleducks · 25/10/2010 18:34

Hope all you ladies are hanging on in there. Best of luck to you all. Am still in hospital following section last thursday- they found an infection in me somewhere so on some heavy antibiotics until it clears. Bit gutted as baby was given the all clear 2 days ago! Hoping to get home tomorrow. Think someone was looking out for me though as at least have a nice wee side room. Would be properly miserable if i was on the ward watching folk go home every day!

lizardqueenie · 25/10/2010 18:40

Evening all

Ah Bee thats so lovely of your DH! Bless.
We just had our bathroom done too- it has been worth it in the end - nice to lay in there now its all new and posh but I know what you mean about the upheaval!

Comtessa you def have the right idea about your maternity leave. When the hospital were orgininaly talking about inducing me v early I felt quite cheated out of my maternity leave. There is also something quite nice about doing all of the baby washing though, although I am sure once our little ones are here the constant whir of the washing machine will wear off a bit! Still I think its cute for now.
Addicted how are you getting on with your pineapple? I heard that its the whole pineapple. Hmm, wonder if it counts if you eat it in things. Just think of all of those upside down pineapple cakes.

Started off the raspberry leaf tea today- hmm not as bad as I thought it might be. Also according to MW baby has moved further down over the weekend so at least its heading in the right direction! [hgrin|
