Glad to hear your maternity leave has started comtessa and pidgin - enjoy it

Also congrats on the go-ahead for the homebirth clueless!

Wallace · 25/10/2010 19:39

Oh you poor thing threelittleduks, hope you get home tomorrow

Loooopy · 25/10/2010 20:33

addicted i read an NHS link last week and it said that only fresh pineapple works, the enzyme in it is lost if processed or cooked etc....and that you need to eat 7 of them to get the right quantity!!

I've got one in the kitchen to eat, and have been having raspberry leaf capsules, and also been told to nipple tweak, and read that using a tens machine can bring on contractions too, which is why they don't recommend using it before 37 weeks (to avoid premature births).

Fenouille · 25/10/2010 20:56

DH has just pointed out it's a full moon tonight, so I wonder if any of us will pop under the lunar influence? [hgrin]

Hope you get out of hospital soon 3LD.

Hmm the midwives here recommend green clay for swollen bombs. Hope it all settles down quickly.

PrivetDancer · 25/10/2010 21:31

Hehee we've had our downstairs loo redone too! They finished last week, it's lovely!

All this talk of late presentation scans got me thinking so I booked in for an impromptu scan as I was in London for work today. Feel a bit better about homebirth now (as had been getting nervous having read some threads on here) as I know cord not wrapped around neck and all looking good :-)
They also did a bit of 3d stuff and got to see a nice yawn and a smile so really glad I went.

This baby is quite a bit smaller than dd was, am trying not to worry about that too much though. Estimated at 7lb full term

celestinelass · 25/10/2010 22:37

Hi all x

Congratulations on all the new arrivals, so exciting to keep checking in and seeing yet another little babe join the world.

I'm 38+2 now according to revised calculations! Due 6th November.
No idea what we're having, but have a strong feeling it's a boy......

Going to Crowborough Birthing Centre, lovely midwife led centre, hoping for a water birth :)

Very uncomfortable and tired, lots of head butts downwards and baby has bruised my ribs with kicking!

Pretty much prepared apart from the bloody delays with arrival of nursery furniture. Was meant to arrive 2 weeks ago, then last week, then tomorrow, now delayed to Friday :( Grrrr really denying me the bestest bit of nesting, preparing the nursery!!

So in the meantime, nesting by tidying out the garage.........:(

bunnygirl80 · 25/10/2010 23:13

threelittleducks Hope your infection clears up and you get home soon

clueless congrats on getting the go ahead for your homebirth

Have been feeling irrationally Angry with everything and everyone for the past couple of days. Managed a big row with DH last night when he came home from "a quick beer after work" at 11pm, rather than the 8pm I was expecting him at. Normally I'd just tell him off, but this time I was sooooooo mad at him I deleted all of the sports programmes he had recorded at the weekend Blush

cluelessnchaos · 26/10/2010 07:44

Don't cross a pregnant woman bunnygirl, that madec me laugh.

Is anyone getting the flu vaccine, I dint normally get it and feel I am almost there, not sure if I can face feeling rough after it but I am 37 plus 5 so potentially I could have another 4 weeks, midwife didn't really advise but said at least it would cover me afterwards as well ???
What are you all doing

thanks for all the congratulations

grinningbee · 26/10/2010 09:10

I have just ripped someone a new a hole on the phone Blush I got a stupid phonecall about some payments, and the guy basically called me a liar (after getting my name wrong, asking me the same questions twice, and then excusing it by saying it's early in the morning)

I went off on one. Don't you just love pregnancy hormones!!!

Today the ceiling is being scraped back in the bathroom and then plastered. Also waiting for electrician. I have already prewarned plasterer that I shall expect use of the loo today Grin

smokeybacon · 26/10/2010 09:23

grinning hope you get to use your loo today. What a nightmare for a pg lady!

clueless not been offered the flu vaccine here but don't know if I'd have it or not. So not much help am I? I guess if it covers you for the whole winter, it may be worth having as there would be nothing worse than being ill with new babies around. [hsmile] that your baby is head down and all systems go for your HB.

threelittleducks how are you this morning? Home today I hope.

So yesterday I officially became old [hsad] and turned 40. DH and I mananged to go out for dinner at a lovely South Indian restaurant (comtessa you recommended it and it was indeed lovely!), but we are both so tired that we decided to skip the film we were going to go and see afterwards and just go home to bed (to sleep - with the size of my belly there is NO chance of any action here!!).

Am waiting for a mw to turn up at some point this morning for another BP check. Can't afford an admission to hospital today as am having my pre birth waxing, eyebrow shape and eyelash tint this afternoon!!!!

Any full moon babies???

grinningbee · 26/10/2010 09:28

Happy birthday for yesterday smokey and you're not old!

I turn 40 next Tuesday... Shock I've said I don't want a meal as I can't eat much before getting full. I'm postponing to next year Grin

Which Indian was it? I've been to a couple in the area.

Fenouille · 26/10/2010 10:05

Your DH's face must have been classic bunny Grin I had a good chuckle at that :)

There's a bit of friction here too (over the speed that the bathroom's moving). My Mum helpfully called last night so I breezily told her, "Oh yes, everything will be finished by the time you arrive. When was it again? Saturday evening?" Wink at which DH slunk off to put the bathroom furniture together Grin

Ooh, and I'm so jealous of you all showing off about your fancy schmancy toilets Angry[hgrin] Still flushing ours with a bucket, but after ringing what felt like half the plumbers in France I've got one coming this evening to quote. Hopefully when he sees the size of my bump the job he'll be able to fit us in quickly (think it should really only be a half day job).

No new moon baby here, but just had a text from our prospective CM and it's looking positive for her being able to take him/her. Still not counting my chickens but that would be a big relief.

Fenouille · 26/10/2010 10:06

Oh, and happy belated birthday Smokey. It sounds like you had a lovely evening :)

sarahbuff · 26/10/2010 10:07

Morning ladies! Been to the midwife this morning (38w today) and she told me baby's head is engaged! Eek! I might not worry, except that this is my fourth baby and the other three did not engage at all until labour started. They say your first usually engages early, but he wasn't even engaged when I saw the midwife the day before I had him! This is throwing me off totally, as I didn't expect to be having this baby for another three weeks, given my other three were all over a week late. So I guess I'm going to spend today getting the baby hammock up and ready, and cleaning like crazy!

BloodyBorisKarloffTheBold · 26/10/2010 10:21

Morning all,

Just had my consultant's appointment. Baby is still breech (surprise, surprise) and is measuring 45 weeks [hshock]. I knew it was bigm but didn't realise it was that big iykwim?

Anyway, upshot is that ELCS has been offered at 39 weeks, or thereabouts, and the mw will call me this afternoon to confirm the actual date.

As I'm now 37+4 it's scary to think that number 3 could be here in around 10 days...I think I've changed my mind - I wanna puppy instead.....

pyjamalover · 26/10/2010 10:25

exciting sarahbuff happy packing!

clueless i'm getting the flu jab, apparently pregnant women more likely to get very ill if we get flu, and I also figure if I were to catch it after the baby is born am likely to give it to them.

have bought almost everything I need now, including some gorgeous tiny babygros from mamas and papas that say 'welcome to the world' on them, and a dutailier glider chair reduced to £159 from £350 on the kiddicare website (ok so I guess I don't strictly NEED a glider chair but sat in my friends one and it is sooo comfy)

loving not working, but still dreaming about it a fair bit and waking up anxious I forgot something!

JFly · 26/10/2010 12:22

Congratulations on the new babies! It's very exciting, although a bit concerning with these early ones. I'm 35 weeks today and have very little ready. Must get DH up in the loft this weekend to fetch car seat, pram attachment, and whatever else is up there!

I booked my "just in case" ELCS yesterday. I'm going to try for a VBAC but they schedule the CS for 5-12 days overdue. It was like booking a pedicure: "how does 9:45am, Tuesday Dec 7th sound?" Very strange indeed to know that's the latest date I'll have this baby!

Good luck with all the bathroom woes. Typically, babies seem to wait for you to finish building work before they arrive. So hopefully you'll all have running water, at least, before then!

Happy Birthday to those celebrating. Mine is in two weeks and I am not looking forward to being in my "late" 30s. Not fair.

PrivetDancer · 26/10/2010 12:25

clueless I had the flu jab a couple of weeks ago. I didn't feel rough after it at all, had no effects whatsoever. I've never had one before either but was sold on the idea of both me and the baby being protected by it for the winter. Especially as DH wil be commuting into London still, so if swine flu does kick off we could well catch it.

Happy birthday smokey!

bunnygirl that made me laugh too :) I'm certainly on a short fuse nowadays.

hmmSleep · 26/10/2010 14:18

I would have had the flu jab, was scheduled to have it on Saturday, but figured seeing as baby is already here now I wouldn't be entitled anymore. The thought of coming down with flu whilst looking after 3 little ones fills me with dread.

Boris, that sounds big, and breech!! ELCS definitely sounds the way to go, I found my little 5lb and 6lb ones hard enough to push out, anything bigger not sure I'd cope!

Lottie had her 5 day weigh in on Sunday, and is already up to 6lb 4, the midwife had to double check as normally they're only expected to be back to birth weight. Lottie does seem rather keen on feeding though, not too bad at the moment as it's half term so having a baby constantly attached to my breast not so difficult, bit nervous about school run and clubs starting up again next week.

All of you with bathroom work being done, very brave, hope you all get things sorted before your babies arrive. I had my first mother/baby bath last night, so much easier than using the baby bath, and Lottie seemed to enjoy it too.

Those of you feeling disorganised, if it makes you feel better a week after Lottie's arrival I'm still not organised! Dh had to dash out to supermarket a few nights ago to grab a breast pump as I needed to express a bit they were so engorged (finally settling down now). The spare pushchair parts only arrived yesterday and we haven't even started the nursery! I have plenty of chocolate though so at least the important things are covered.

Happy birthday smokey!

Happy Birthday smokey and pre happy birthday grinningbee :)
My DP is 30 next Friday, want to plan something but then knowing my luck I will book a table somewhere for a bunch of us and then DS will show up Confused

Glad all is going well for you hmmsleep
I was and still am sort of hoping DS will show before half term is up but dont see it happening

Oh question before I forget.
Are you ladies taking your carseat in with you when you go into labour or just your bag/s?
I didnt take mine in when I had DD but it was late at night and all very rushed but thankfully I was kept in over night so got my parents to bring it up with them the next day when I was leaving

sarahbuff · 26/10/2010 14:34

Well done to Lottie, hmmsleep! Lovely to hear feeding is going well, and she's putting on weight well. I'm not sure I've ever really been convinced that the flu jab does much good, since it only protects (if effective) against one strain of flu, and they can only guess which strain is going to cause the majority of flu cases that particular year. I wouldn't think your chances of getting or not getting the flu are tremendously influenced by it. But that's just my personal opinion, having never gotten the jab and not had a flu since I was 11 or 12! Grin

Wondering whether anyone who has had their babies early experienced this... as I mentioned midwife said this morning that baby's head is engaged (and this is my fourth baby) and all day I've been able to feel pressure down low (on my cervix I guess??) and feel like I need a wee even when I don't, and the pressure increases during braxton hicks (which are painless). Anyone else have this? I wish I knew whether this was going to turn into something or just go away if baby changes positions! Argh!

hmmSleep · 26/10/2010 14:59

sarah, that's just how I felt for the few days prior to my waters breaking! Having said that, at my last midwife appointment head was fully engaged, but when I went into hospital after waters breaking it wasn't! Wondering if the head coming back out triggered the waters going? Does sound like things are getting ready for you though.

Those of you wanting to get things going, I really think the rather long uphill walk around Bolton Abbey is what did it for me!

Fenouille · 26/10/2010 14:59

Boris Shock

JFly I sure hope you've right about the bathroom-baby conjunction! This one is under strict odes to stay where it is until Thursday :)

Sounds like everything's going fabulously hmm and Lottie.

Sarah I used to think that about the flu jab but having got involved in the subject (professionally) and heard a leading virologist say he always gets the vaccine I've changed my mind! The general argument is that in an epidemic year, if you've had the flu jab, they at least know you can't have that strain (whether it's the epidemic or bog-standard one) so can triage/treat you quicker.

comtessa · 26/10/2010 16:04

Happy Birthday Smokey! Glad to hear you liked the recommendation. I was there last weekend with some friends and the food was as good as ever.

grinningbee, it was Kayal, Broad Street, in the Hockley area.

Thanks all for the impromptu input on the flu jab, very good to read. I usually get flu every other year, didn't get it last year so could well do with getting it this year...

DH and I went for a nice long walk on Sunday, it's really not the weather for it today - so that's my excuse. However we are booked in for a romantic :o Hmm weekend in Bradford this weekend (freebie through DH's work). So we're planning on heading out to Bronte country for some walking to help things along. On consideration, we've decided to take my hospital bag to the hotel just in case!

Glad to hear everything's going well hmmsleep

Right, I am NOT going to watch an afternoon film, I'm going to be organised and Get Things Done. Or at least hang up the washing. Smile

Pidgin · 26/10/2010 18:05

happy birthday smokey Smile

sarah thanks for the weighing advice - I think I need just not to worry about it. I guess it's just wait and see, as you say!

and thanks for the sling advice landb, I will follow that up. Both the slings I have say they are fine for newborns, but I'm worried I'll tie a knot wrong and drop the baby... perhaps I could just gaffa tape him to my chest every time I want to carry him instead...

Glad to hear Lottie is doing well hmmsleep, and hope you are home soon threelittleducks.

I went to the cinema in the day today! Maternity leave rocks!
