Baby ethan born 21.10.10 at 8.06p.m! 3 weeks early and 7lb 9oz. Born by csection after going into labour early. In scbu at the mo, but doing so very well. Got a bit of cpap until this noon and is on the home straight. Feeding well. So happy!

hmmSleep · 22/10/2010 21:57

AddictedIsFeelingHappy · 23/10/2010 01:33

congratulations 3littleducks. [hgrin] great birth weight

Pidgin · 23/10/2010 08:38

Congratulations threelittleducks! Another lovely name and v impressive birth weight.

& congrats umf!

Glad to hear the baby furniture is in place blondecat - Angry about you having to tidy up, though.

landb I have a wilkinet and a mai tei - do you think either of those would be suitable to take in for a newborn? Have not learned to use the wilkinet yet but I could take the instructions in too!

I had a bit of a dissatisfying 38-week check yesterday. I asked the MW if she could tell how big the baby is (I have reason to believe he might be a lot bigger than normal) and she just said 'well, some MWs can tell but I'm not very good at it so I don't try'. Fair enough, but if I want an estimate of the baby's size, what can I do? I don't have an appt with the birth centre now till I'm a few days overdue...

So how do I get someone to give me an estimate of baby's size? I've noticed lots of people on this thread seem to have been given them, I know they're not completely accurate but I'd settle for a guess! Any ideas? I'm feeling a bit worried about it.

Wallace · 23/10/2010 09:01

Congratulations threelittleducks!

Pidg - why do you think baby might be big?

grinningbee · 23/10/2010 09:11

Congratulations threelittleducks hope you're home soon

Grin
harmonyb23 · 23/10/2010 09:38

balijay · 23/10/2010 09:44

Ah Big congrats 3littleducks - bet you can't wait to take your little boy home!

And what?? Babies can come 3 weeks early?? No no no! I'm not ready!!!

PrivetDancer · 23/10/2010 10:06

Congrats threelittleducks :o

can't believe how many babies we're getting, has nobody told them it's not November yet?!

Pidgin · 23/10/2010 10:06

Wallace it's due to size of DH!

sarahbuff · 23/10/2010 10:21

Congratulations threelittleducks!!! Hope you are home and settled soon.

To Pidgin the only reason I've been given a weight estimate (around 7lbs at the mo) is because we a had a presentation scan at 37 weeks (to confirm baby is head-down, standard practice for homebirths in my area). Even with that, though, MW said they are often a lb out either direction! I wouldn't worry too much, after all the main thing is that the baby's head isn't gigantic (or shoulders for that matter). I am 5'7" and somewhat light frame, and my hubby is 6'2", maybe 6'3" with very heavy bone structure, and my first three babies were 9lb 1oz, 9lb 6oz and 8lb 8oz (and all over a week overdue). I wouldn't worry too much. I was absolutely huge on my third and thought he'd be 10lbs but he was smaller than the other two (but I seemed to have several gallons of fluid!!). This time my bump is tiny in comparison but baby feels quite substantial. Will just have to wait and see! Grin

Fenouille · 23/10/2010 10:31

Congratulations threelittleducks :)

balijay I'm due this week and still not ready! Grin

blondecat Yay for the furniture, boo to the tidying up.

We've spent the morning at the DIY shop again and now I'm back with a full house of DH and FIL tiling I had such a lovely quiet day yesterday - cleared out the fridge, did shopping, had a chat with best friend... now its back to having to leap out the way of FIL (as he doesn't leave any allowance for my bump and is too impatient to wait for me to move) and the swearing has already started. AND I'm going to have to leap up again in a few minutes to start cooking lunch I'm grateful really but all I really want to do is sit on the sofa and eat ice cream

llandb · 23/10/2010 14:35

Pidgin I didn't get anything more than a ring sling until DD was 3 months, and I now realise that I didn't even properly understand how to use that Blush. So although I wish I'd discovered other types of sling earlier, I'm thoroughly ignorant as to how to use them for newborns!

Have you tried asking in the slings and backpacks section here, or checked out the slings section of this forum? (I'm going to have to learn all this newborn sling stuff myself!)

lulastic · 23/10/2010 14:46

Awesome- huge congrats hmmsleep and threelittleducks!

Am finally getting prepared:
I stink of dettol having just cleaned out the birth pool.

I washed 43 baby grows yesterday! (Thanks to my very fertile big sis)

A bit stressful with the carpet layer and the plasterers doing their thing too, and um, a burst pipe.

Thankfully just got some sofa time with a cup of tea, a custard cream and the Guardian (and ipod in so I can't here the clanking and banging) - delicious.

Oh and I also just bought some nursing bras from an M and S outlet on Ebay, I ordered on Thurs, after getting fitted in M and S and they arrived today and are brilliant. If you are as unprepared as me (and cheapskate!) with these things I can reccommend shop.ebay.co.uk/thehighstreetoutletuk/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

Fenouille · 23/10/2010 15:38

Lula Burst Pipe? Aargh! I've infected the thread :( I hope it's going to be easier to fix than ours. Custard Cream therapy sounds good though.

Ebb · 23/10/2010 16:03

Congratulations! threelittleducks Hope you and Ethan are home soon.

I am now officially more pregnant than I have ever been. Ds came at 38wks. This one seems quite happy baking. Hopefully she won't be too much longer! Grin

smokeybacon · 23/10/2010 16:37

Conratulations to threelittleducks hmmmsleep on your babies!

And to drumf on your phd.

Well done everyone.

I had a little trip to the delivery suite myself yesterday but only because triage was full and I needed monitoring due to the bp still being up. No protein in my wee so I was sent home again after blood tests and a bit of monitoring. Phew. Got to be checked again on monday.

Rinnyx · 23/10/2010 16:54

Aw congrats threelittleducks love the name :)

umf · 23/10/2010 18:05

Wow threelittleducks congratulations!!! Hope you're recovering well and being looked after.

And thanks everyone! Still quite chuffed.

Eek lulastic, burst pipes at this stage! We used to have a nasty persistent leak through our kitchen ceiling but I think DH has that one fixed now. Really, really hope so.

Hope it stays clear smokeyb.

Midwife came today, all fine, she seems serious about homebirth plans. So that's all a relief. Will get on and order birthpool.

Bit scary, all these babies arriving...

tiany · 23/10/2010 18:44

wow the babies are all popping out - congrats threelittleducks thats great news

I am 37 wks today, been have cramps on and off since yesterday afternoon, they not consistent enough for proper labour but wondering if maybe its start of something??.... feel like strong period pains. Called the m/w, she said maybe BH and just the very start... guess will just wait and see!

Babybean1 · 23/10/2010 19:49

Congrats to hmmsleep and threelittleducks so exciting hearing about all the babies popping now :)

Also congrats dr umf

Think all of you guys with water trouble have definitely started something.....got in the shower today and was waiting for it to heat up......to find it will no longer heat up!!! DH took it all apart but looks as though it's died! Not even had it that long really so am gonna try to find the receipt, but just a pain when I'm 38 + 3 and getting in and out of a bath isnt the easiest of things! Also much rather be spending money on lovely baby things when we know what sex baby is rather than a boring shower!! Hey ho.....could be worse I suppose!

Hope everyones doing ok and looking forward to hearing more baby news soon :)

Mibby · 23/10/2010 20:07
