Congratulations Dogwalker and Looby

Vix I think you should be congratulated on your show too! It's bloomin' frustrating for us lot nearest to the waiting room door isn't it?

Well my sweep seemed to go ok. I actually had two midwives at my appointment which is strange when they were short staffed 6 hours ago! It wasn't the nicest procedure I've ever been through but I didn't find painful just uncomfortable. Was warned I might get a bit of bleeding and period pain and I have, so it must have done something. I've had a bounce on the birthing ball to try to encourage things along and I'll try again later. The baby has had a bit of a growth spurt too and I've gone up by 6cm in the last 3 weeks on the fundus measurement. The midwife didn't seem too concerned though.

vix206 · 23/08/2010 20:30

Lizziea glad your sweep went well! I had 2 midwives as well, although I have to say mine was quite painful but it only lasted seconds. I also felt really crampy afterwards like a bad period pain. Fingers crossed for you!

I have constant back ache, lots of tightenings and loads of twinges and funny movements down low. Going to have a bath in a bit I think x

marzipananimal · 23/08/2010 20:55

Congratulations looby and dogwalker, so happy for you! Grin

Seeing mw tomorrow (40+5) but I don't think I'll have a sweep - bit scared of them really and despite my impatience I still feel at this stage that I want to let things take their course

Do any of you ever feel like your LO is moving in your bottom?! Feels rather odd!

Good luck to anyone in labour x

mrsZaC · 23/08/2010 21:03

big congrats dogwalker :D

YEY for vix glad things are moving in the right direction.

lizzie good to hear the sweep went well, I'm sure things will be moving along nicely soon enough :)

alice Shock at you bleeding, well done you for persevering :)

Nothing happening here, well i don't expect anything but you can't help getting excited can you! staying with mum & dad tonight but downside is I'll have to drive myself to my appointment at 7am tomorrow - pleuck! I'm not used to getting up at such an hour.

feeling a little yucky so I'm going to sign off just now, just thought I'd pop my head in to see you lot incase you thought I'd gone awal!

babyducky · 24/08/2010 09:26

Just letting you know that baby Sofia was born at 4am yesterday morning (23rd august) she weighed 8.5, catch up soon, congrats to anyone else with new babies :) xxx

vix206 · 24/08/2010 10:20

Congrats babyducky!! Did you need the induction in the end?

I've had 2 bloody shows now but apart from that (and feeling a lit of period type discomforts) nothing much is going on. It's you and me at the top of the list now lizzie! How are things with you?

Hope your appt went well mrsZaC

pamplem0usse · 24/08/2010 10:41

OK I'm still here.....
Trying to "relax' before going in for my induction tomorrow.

Does anyone have any experience on the following:

(1) How long inductions (when started off using pessaries) take to get going.... I know hugely variable but I\m interested in whether there have been a range of experiences.

(2) When you have baby in hospital and you need the loo.... do you take baby with you?! Don't want to seem like a bad Mummy but really not sure what's 'done'/.....

Congrats on all the new babies....

xxx

cazzybabs · 24/08/2010 10:45

I never took the baby with me to the loo and when I wanted a shower I left her in her crib at the midwife station.

Good luck for your induction - don't know much about them as I have had 1 failed induction which resulted in a ecs. Whilst I am sure you will have a successful induction if you have to have a ecs mine was very calm - as soon as they decided to go (as dd3's heartbeat was not picking up) it was very calm and efficent - within less than 10 mins of the decision dd3 was out and safe

LittleMissSnowShine · 24/08/2010 11:01

Just had fourth sleepless night in a row - praying this is some kind of pre-labour hormonal thing!! Went back to sleep for 2 hours after DH went to work, tho, bliss Grin

Had a show at about half 11 last night but no further developments Hmm Going to risk SPD pain marathon and go for a walk this morning, just round to shop and library to refresh my supply of increasingly trashy novels to keep my mind off things, and then work on dry, boring postdoctoral funding applications for an hour or two this afternoon. Prob should be spending maternity leave cleaning house, washing stuff, cooking yet more stuff for the freezer but with the sleeplessness and the wrecked pelvis, working on laptop seems preferable!! And in-laws cooking us dinner tonight anyway Wink

Good luck anyone in labour - any more news mrszac?? You're right LCR, it's getting kind of tense in the waiting room now - there's not too many of us left. And, no matter what, most of us should have had our babies within the next week or so Shock Can't believe finish line is so close!!

Poncherello · 24/08/2010 12:24

I've only been officially in the waiting room for a couple of days and am twitchy already! So to cheer us up here's some freshly baked quadruple chocolate loaf cake ...

It's brilliant to see the list getting shorter but am starting to feel the pressure of seeing my due date come and go!

Thought things were starting yesterday but to no avail ... ended up dancing around the lounge at 10.30pm to Faithless. Haven't had a show yet Envy so could be a long way off still.

Is everyone getting loads of calls / texts / wall posts on FB to 'see if anything is happening?' argh as if I'd forget to say if they were!

Pample thought exactly the same thing about going to the loo when the baby is here!

Congrats on all the latest arrivals - we'll be needing to set up the post-natal thread soon.

Good luck those still waiting - looking forward to hearing some news soon!

LittleMissSnowShine · 24/08/2010 13:09

Poncherello - I updated my facebook profile pic to this cartoon for that very reason!! And I still have 4 days til due date but that's all anyone asks you!! Ho hum Wink Thanks for the loaf cake! mmm

LizzieA · 24/08/2010 13:35

Littlemiss I have stolen that cartoon from you.

I'm still here guarding the top of the list and my baby seems very content to be exactly where he is, vix and I are sharing the shifts as we need to leave for regular wee breaks - feel free to leave us cakes!

neenz · 24/08/2010 13:49

It never occured to me to take the DTs to the toilet or the shower - but then with twins it was a bit like that all the time. You can't really take twins with you everywhere you go! I think it's prob more dangerous to try to take the baby with you.

Well done dogwalker and babyducky!

Alice, glad your LO is still liking BFing despite the blood. Smile

Good luck to all those still in the waiting room!

vitapulchra · 24/08/2010 14:43

Congratulations, Babyducky Grin! Very happy to hear the good news from you!

Well, now 6 days o/d and fed up!!! Sweep booked for tomorrow - every night I go to bed thinking "will tonight be the night?"....

And our timewasting twat head buyers just pulled out - gutted

Dibbydab · 24/08/2010 14:48

Thanks for updating the list Vita, that's fine about my age (being one of the older mums here!)

Congrats on the new arrivals, I can hardly keep up now, but the baby is asleep at the moment so I have ooooh at least 10 minutes to myself!

I didn't take Felicty with me anywhere in the hospital (loo, shower or day room for meals), though I did leave my door open (had my own room), and one time I came back from the shower (I was gone 10 minutes - honest!) and one of the student midwifes had come in and picked her up as she was crying.

For those anxious that they are going to go way over their due date - I saw my midwife on the Thursday before the baby was due (due on the Monday) - head not engaged - hovering over brim of pelvis (think she was just trying to make me feel better), so convinced was she that I would go over my due date due to the baby's position, she booked me in for a sweep at 40 + 1 (on the Tuesday). Early hours of Sunday morning I was cursing a reduced for quick sale 40p sandwich from Tesco I'd had for my tea the night before (due to severe heartburn I could hardly eat anything), and was convinced the pain I woke up with at 3.30am was a dodgy belly and sat on the loo for a while. By 5am I realised these pains where coming every 30 minutes or so... Confused and told DH I thought I might be in labour. Pains got more frequent, I had a show at 5pm and I stayed at home until 8pm that night before going to hospital (had a home birth planned but baby had other ideas). Waters went in the ambulance and baby was born 7 hours later, 25 hours after first pains with help of synoticin (sp?), epidural and forceps, so not the home birth helped along with a birthing pool, hypnobirthing and a TENS machine I had hoped for, but it was fine - if anything, it has changed my perception of having a baby in hospital, and I'm a lot less fearful about going to hospital next time (get me - next time, and my first baby is only 3 weeks old!)

So my musings on birth are - baby doesn't necessarily engage prior to labour, you don't always get a show prior to labour, the "period" type pains you might be expecting may feel more like "god, I need a poo" pains, your waters could go at any time (going over speed bumps helps) and interventions are not always the demon things that a lot of the books would have you believe, I could have kissed the dr who gave me my epidural and seriously considered asking for her address so I could put her on my Christmas card list (that might have been the gas and air though).

Sorry that's turned into a bit of a mammoth post, but I hope it helps some of those in the waiting room who are feeling apprehensive.

Oh, just one more thing (in true Columbo style), despite the huge amount of stitches due to forceps and mastitis for the last 2 weeks, being a mum is great Smile

xx

marzipananimal · 24/08/2010 17:22

thanks for that post dibby, it is encouraging :)

I'm starting to feel kind of resigned to being overdue now. Saw the midwife earlier and booked an induction for 2nd Sept. I always knew making it to september was a theoretical possibility but I never thought it would actually happen! Oh well, maybe tonight will be the night!

Sorry about your buyers pulling out ishe, that's rubbish :(

Slightly miffed that Samatha Cameron has jumped the queue and had her baby before me!

vix206 · 24/08/2010 19:57

Yes thanks Dibby your post has given me comfort! I am really starting to lose hope that this baby is ever going to be born (without being forcefully evicted). I am getting so grumpy about it, will be 9 days over tomorrow and I just feel like my life is on hold. We could be moving in 2 weeks and I really thought I'd have my baby in my arms by now. Hmph.

vix206 · 24/08/2010 19:57

PS ishe I'm really bloody sorry to hear your buyers pulled out I can't even imagine how crap that must be :( :(

Aussieng · 24/08/2010 21:27

'lo all!

Congrats to dogwalker, Looby and babyucky!

Pample, in the hospital I was in there were 4 beds to a ward and a toilet and shower in each ward. No need to take baby into toilet at all. I did take him to the baby day room when having meals (there was a window from the canteen to the day room so you could keep an eye out). All will become clear once you are there hopefully - the "procedure" for both things was explained quite clearly to me.

Re induction: I had one pessary which didn't work and extended my labour by 6 hours (had contractions but cervix did not dilate any further). Syntocinon (sp?) drip started at 9pm at lowest dosage. Baby delivered by 2.50 am so less than 6 hours for that stage. In contrast just met with one of the ladies from my ante-natal who had her baby boy (a whopper - 11lbs - will be weeks before my little fella is that size!) by casearian after a few goes with the pessary, the drip and then a casearan including forceps to drag the baby back up the birth canal Shock!) taking well over 48 hours in total. On the plus side she did manage to get some sleep in between the various attempts to get her going so actually has a reasonably positive and prosaic view of the situation.

Echo Dibby - interventions can be fine. Also I did not have a show until my waters broke.

Over on the post-natal thread can we talk about sex ladies? Blush

Aussieng · 24/08/2010 21:28

Oops sorry - ishe - that must be very frustrating. There should be a penalty for such arses!

mrsZaC · 24/08/2010 22:49

congrats babyducky on the birth of little Sofia :)

vix & snowshine yeah appointment went well, she seems to think things are moving along nicely but nothing imminent, baby is only 4/5ths so still a bit to go yet. Got period type niggles, nausea and loose stools so all signs that things are moving along. She reakons that I'll be about a week all going well - I hope so :). Said I've to concentrate on natural induction this week, as with me if I go down the induction route things aren't so simple and could send me on a slippery slope to a section (which I really really really don't want as I'll have to be put under!) DH is home tonight so I think we will be partaking in some natural induction techniques... don't men just get all the best parts of the pregnancy?!?

oh no isheisnthe so sorry to hear your buyers have pulled out, isn't it just the pits!! we had three viewings on saturday and not heard from any of them yet :( I HATE selling.

great post dibby it's sooo like pregnancy spotting, nothing is certain, but you just can't help clinging to the little things can you. Bloomin' frustraiting and I'm not even past my due date yet!!!

vix with all those shows you must be moving along now darlin' have faith and baby will come :) I was thinking of you today, hoping to login to find you'd produced! keeping your chin up, it WILL happen one way or the other :)

mrsZaC · 25/08/2010 02:28

I don't think I have a hope in hells chance of anyone being up at this time but I can't sleep, and guess why? I woke up about 2 and I think my waters might have gone. My pants were soaked through and I've had a pad on for 20 min and that is now soaked through. I know I should be trying to catch some sleep as I (don't think) I'm getting any surges yet (cxs) as i can't really feel anything, far too nervous/excited to sleep so I thought I'd get up and bounce on my ball for a bit. Poor DH only got home last night, so I'm trying not to wake him up.

Hoping if this is it that things kick off soon - wish me luck!
