Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
NichyNoo · 09/08/2010 09:54

Hello all - I'm still here with no sign of baby (40+2).

I was thinking of Caz on Saturday which was was our shared due date. I hope her and her DH managed to get through the day Sad

I'm going to hospital for monitoring every 2 days now (in Belgium once you are past your due date you have to go in every 2 days). I'm having small contractions and starting to dilate but cervix is still to long and high apparently Sad

Very worried about size of baby - he was estimated at 7lbs3 nearly 4 weeks ago. I was 10lb2 when I was born and DH was 10lb so I'm concerned that this baby is going to be huge as well. Also been told he has a big head (95th percentile) but when I speak to doctor and midwives they just laugh at my fears and say they will induce at 10 days over. Not sure what I can do.....curry, sex, walking, pineapple and raspberry leaf tea having no effect whatsoever.

Am worried as my mum never really recovered from my birth cos I was so big and I don't want the same to happen to me Sad

Plus all the ladies from my antenatal class have now given birth and I am officially the 'last woman standing' grrr.....

NichyNoo · 09/08/2010 09:55

Oh dear - sorry for such a moany post!!!

Congrats to star and neenz by the way Grin

ElusiveMoose · 09/08/2010 10:32

Hi Nikalah, Sorry to hear you're feeling down about being overdue. At the risk of getting a virtual smack, I would urge you to try Grin to take the view that babies come when they're ready. I do know how you feel - with DS I was 13 days late, and it is difficult - in fact, I found the hardest bit was my mum phoning every single bloody day to say 'haven't you had that baby yet?' ('no, I bloody well haven't, go away!!!'). This time I mentally put my due date 2 weeks late, so every day earlier than that is a bonus (so far 2 days over) - and I do think it's a bit easier with your second, because you've got your first to keep you busy. And don't forget that induction can be pretty unpleasant, particularly if your body's really not ready for it - it can make your labour longer/more painful (although not always - particularly if you're basically about to go into labour anyway). So if you can avoid being induced, then so much the better (with me, DS was born on the Sunday night, when I was booked in for induction on the Monday morning). Maybe in your case they got your dates slightly wrong (I'm pretty sure they have done with me, both times), which might be why your 'readiness' score is still pretty low... Anyway, I really hope you don't think I'm being condescending - I just wanted to come on and say that I really sympathise, but try to tell yourself that at least you've only got a maximum of six days to go now, and that will pale into nothing when you've got your baby for the rest of your life (in fact, after the event, you may find yourself wondering why you didn't relish your last few days of peace and quiet - that's certainly what I ended up thinking last time Grin).

Nichy I can't believe how often you get monitored there! A bit of a pain, but also quite reassuring, I guess. Re the big baby, I'm not sure what to say, really - except that the woman in the bed next to me when I had DS popped out her 10lb 6oz baby with no tearing and in about 3 hours (first timer as well), whereas I needed 24 hours, an episiotomy and a Ventouse to get my 7lb 7oz baby out, so you just never know.....

Emster30 · 09/08/2010 10:34

oh poor nicky, i don't blame you for moaning! fingers crossed something happens for you soon.

i was so shattered yesterday - although james had slept ok on saturday, i could not get to sleep and was really tense. i was expecting him to have a bad night last night. but no - he went to sleep at midnight, fed from 3.30-4am, then back to sleep till 7.30, fed till 8.15 or so, then we all dozed and cuddled till 9am. bliss!

Alicetheinvisible · 09/08/2010 10:45

Emster how lovely Smile

Nikalah have your dates been changed at all? With DD i knew the exact day she was concieved and went into labour on my due date. This time i worked it out as 11th (due to 26day cycle) Dr worked it out as 15th going by an average cycle and LMP, and scan put me at 9th, so even though my due date is today, i just feel it will be this week sometime.

I have reflexology this afternoon, a clinic appointment tomorrow where i may or may not have a sweep, and a cs booked in 10days.

Oh, and babies do come out, they don't stay in forever! My sis had her second one 2weeks late, induced, 4hrs, 10lb 5oz, only G&A and no tearing. Born at midnight, home by lunchtime..

mrsZaC · 09/08/2010 10:52

emster glad to hear your had a good night with james last night :) & girls glad to hear little tilly is doing well :)

Sorry to hear about those getting fed up/overdue I think good advice from elusive and hope that you all get relief very soon, maybe we'll have one mass birth date?

vix super impressed with your baking, how on earth did you stay on your feet that long to bake all those things!?

Well I'm suitably unimpressed this morning, apart from where my belly button piercing was I didn't have ANY stretch marks till 35 wks and now they are multiplying!!!! moving round the bottom of my belly like an unstoppable force! little buggers, I'm trying to be philosophical about it but a little miffed when for 8 months I have been religiously applying bio oil day and night - Angry and more than a little worried about how many I will end up with before baby is born (36+5 today).

Alicetheinvisible · 09/08/2010 11:00

mrsZ i had the same thing last time, Nothing till about 32wks, then loads. Before i got pg this time they looked much better though, so i am not too concerned about the new ones i have. They will go eventually. My mum had loads, but having her last baby at 42 didn't give her any at all.

LittleMissSnowShine · 09/08/2010 11:38

Nikalah - Sorry to hear that Sad Hope next time we hear from you LO will have safely arrived!!

DogWalker - Tried that on Sat night. Very pleasant but no sign of LO! And awkward finding a comfortable position Hmm Might try again later!!

weehector - Not Marley and Me! That film is a misery fest!! It'll depress you too much - go for some all American comedy action. Old School maybe?

mrszac I'm exactly the same as you - only started to get any stretch marks at all about 3 weeks ago and now I'm covered in them. Ack! And I was so good about using Bio Oil everyday... Ho hum. Hopefully they'll fade in time?

Had my last appt with community MW this morning. Heartbeat strong, position is ready for blast off and head is now firmly engaged. So - unhelpfully - she said it could be tonight and it could be in a fortnight's time lol. 19 days til due date, tho, so we'll see! Putting finishing touches on hospital bags today anyway and then going to stow them in car boot.

Any more babies en route today???

mrsZaC · 09/08/2010 11:57

yeah alice I've heard the before that older mums don't get stretch marks as bad... my smug mum however had me at 25 and she didn't get any.. but then again she was also smug enough to tell me that my pre-pregnancy weight of 10st 4 was about what her pregnancy weight was - grrrr!

stretch marks are cruel!! but good to hear they mostly go away.

littlemiss least baby knows what its doing, just need to encourage it along now Wink

just had a DELICIOUS bowl of cherries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and greek yoghurt, yummy!!!!

Alicetheinvisible · 09/08/2010 12:05

MrsZ the most my mother has ever weighed is about 9st, that was when pg! But as she smokes loads she has loads of wrinkles and i look about 17 with my radiance Wink

neenz · 09/08/2010 12:06

Hi all! Thanks for the congrats - Daniel Jacob was born at 2.23am yesterday (Sunday) at home as planned.

Waters broke 6.30pm, contractions started about 7, MW came I was 2cm. By 10 they were coming 3-4mins apart but I was only 3cm! I was gutted cos was in quite a bit of pain and thought I'd be further along. I got in the bath and tried to use the visualistaion and breathing techniques from hypnobirthing. MW didn't want me to have g&a so early on but I was in quite a bit of pain so after about 30mins she let me on it Smile. It got really painful so I got out of the bath and started walking around with the contractions which was better. I had no idea how dilated I was tho cos they don't examine you and I was in so much pain I really didn't think I could take it much longer. I was all for going to the hospital so the MW said 'right get your bag' but of course i didn't want to (not least cos I thought it would be an hour or prob two before I could have an epidural so prob no point!). At 1.30am I said 'I can't do it any more!' so the MWs knew I was close. I didn't know though, I thought it could be hours longer. Contractions were lasting more than a minute and coming less than a min apart and it was very very painfulSad. It was much worse than with the twins which I didn't expect at all - I thought it would be much easier with it only being one baby and my second labour.

Because I had no idea how dilated I was it was a surprise to me when I was ready to push. I just suddenly got the urge to push and out came his head. Then a minute or so later I got another contraction and he was born. Smile It was a massive relief it was all over!

The MWs examined him and were a bit concerned about his breathing so at 4.30am we went to the hospital and he got checked over. He was all clear tho after loads of tests - I think he was just mucousy so wasn't breathing properly through his nose (he was breathing through his mouth which apparently is not good!). We were discharged at 1pm so went home for a sleep. My mum was looking after the twins so it gave us chance to rest.

He hasn't fed very well (only really latched on twice since birth) but I think he is just sleepy and mucousy so not really worried yet. I'll just keep trying to latch him on and hopefully when milk comes in he will get better. He seems content and slept 1-6.30am last night (I didn;t tho - I kept poking him to check he was still breathing!) so it's all good so far!

Congrats summerymummy, Star and Vita(?) too

vitapulchra · 09/08/2010 12:14

I got a bit confused there Vita, wasn't sure whether you'd had your baby or not from your last post!

He was 6lb 10oz Smile

vix206 · 09/08/2010 13:24

Congrats to you neenz!

mrsZaC the baking was done in bits and pieces over 3 days and not much standing was required :) Thankfully! I am still feeling very drained and showing signs of iron deficiency, but day 3 of my pills and (so far) no ill effects so hopefully they'll boost me up soon.

Although I'm now way too tired to be going into work I am still putting in a good few hours each day from home. I kind of resent it, but then at the same time I would be so bored otherwise. I'm actually really glad I worked for as long as I did because I think I would have gone stir-crazy otherwise. One of the reasons we are moving is because we are stuck in Leicester away from all friends and family (moved here for work years ago and never really settled in properly) so I can't pop round to see anyone (DH takes our only car to work) and its quite a trek for them to come see me. So, on balance I'd rather stay busy until baby comes. Trying to get in a nap every day though to make up for all the broken sleep. My leg cramps are getting so bad now they constantly wake me in the night!!

Our house buyer came round yesterday to show her parents the house and explained that she is being pressured on a daily basis by her buyers to move within 1-2 weeks. She told us not to feel at all pressured by it and that she was trying to keep them sweet and hold them off. I just hope that the chain won't collapse because DH and I have set our heart on our new house now. We reckon we should be able to move within 3-4 weeks (as long as baby isn't massively overdue) so hopefully that will be okay. I mean, seriously, there is just no way the paperwork would be ready before then anyway - they are just being unrealistic!

weehector · 09/08/2010 13:25

vix good God, woman, you could open a cafe with that haul of goodies. I'll take a brownie & a raspberry muffin as choc chip banana bread is on my to do list this week.

Group hug for nikalah & nichy. 40+4 here & it is shit living every day like Groundhog Day.I was so sure I'd be early - based on my gut instinct & family track record - that until last week my thoughts centred round holding on until DH finished work, so I was a bit shocked to discover last Thursday how quickly the MW chat turns at 40weeks from 'everything's perfect' to procedures for sweeps & inductions. As usual, I think elusive is making perfect sense with her advice re widening the timing goalposts & expectations re sweeps. To that I'd add 1. breaking that 2 week period down into managable chunks of 2-3days (my HB MW advised not to even think about induction based on the think it/actualise it..she's seen plenty of CS where there's been no medical reason for it but it's been the woman's expectation from the outset), 2. don't sweat the induction details (after 2 days, i've stopped reading the induction threads (lots of woman there at 40+14 & negative stories..just ups the anxiety factor) and 3. Actively manage friends & family. My ILs were driving us mental last week (1 call re something tenous every morning, 2 visits daily)..we've adopted a don't call us, we'll call/visit you approach and though I feel a wee bit guilty that some people are now scared to call or drop in on us, I more than cherish the calm we have in the house.

We had a wonderful evening - walk & hot choc in a nardinis (largs' famous old art deco cafe) talking about all the fab holidays we've had & what great ones are still to come - last night so it would've been perfect if things kicked off overnight. But oh well, not to be - back to more mundane things like getting a new ironing board & DH's bike fixed.

Apols for monster post even by my standards!

ElusiveMoose · 09/08/2010 14:00

Hector you made me laugh about friends and family, reminding me what happened last time. My uncle (who I never really see or speak to from one year to the next) was in a huff because he was sure my mother must have forgotten to tell him that the baby had arrived (she'd told him my due date, so he thought because it was two weeks later that I must have had the baby). So in the end he phoned me directly - but of course managed to do so while I was in labour. Given that I'd decided I wasn't going to tell anyone I was in labour (even my mother), I desperately didn't want him to realise - so I remember trying to be polite and have a chat, while frantically trying to get him off the phone before the next contraction arrived Grin. I managed it, just in time!

JamieJay · 09/08/2010 15:25

ElusiveMoose thanks for the reassurance about the show, sorry your mum is being a bit of a pain but hope you've had a relaxing morning.

Nikalah, NichyNoo sorry your both frustrated, hope babies comes soon.

Congratulations neenz glad you got your homebirth, hope the breathing wasn't too scary. Can't help be jealous that you've got your baby when you were due 11 days after me Wink

weehector am trying my damnest not to stress about induction, doesn't help that mum was induced with me and didn't have a good time but that was a week early do trying to convince myself this baby will be ready to come out. Hope things move for you soon, a calm house can only help getting you in the right frame of mind though.

Glad to hear things are going well for all the ladies who have had their babies.

40+7 here, midwife came this morning and managed to do a sweep. Had bad cramping all night but not really turned into anything, bump has seriously dropped though and is now resting on my thighs when I sit Blush. Booked for another sweep on Thursday and then an induction on Sunday at 14+13. Midwife was fairly confident that the induction wouldn't be needed on the basis of this morning's exam so fingers crossed.

We need a Monday baby to get the week started though!

Emster30 · 09/08/2010 15:27

ha that must have been funny elusive!

sorry for those of you who are overdue and fed up. i was thinking it's surprising that all of us with july due dates who joined this thread on the assumption the babies would be late actually gave birth in july in the end after all!

Alicetheinvisible · 09/08/2010 16:33

Doodley could be having/had her baby by now too. Seemed very likely she was in labour during the night.

weehector · 09/08/2010 17:22

jamie all sounding good your end Hope it's you up next (but can you give the baton back to nik nichynoo or me as soon as you're done with it?).

neenz chuffed for you getting your HB. Hope bambino's breathing is going from strength to strength.

mrszac I have no stretchmarks whatsoever [smug emoticon]. But I am a geriatric 37 & my once fabulous tits are now at my knees. My pre-preggers weight was 10st 4lb too..currently pretending to be a 12st 3lb spacehopper though.

We had to drive past the maternity hospital (45mins away) to get to the bike shop DH needed to go to. All a bit too irritating for words so I'm now back lying in bed with my book & a box of fresh cream chocolate eclairs. If I need to eat them all, I will.

weehector · 09/08/2010 17:24

Four leaf clover obv. Duh.

CellyD · 09/08/2010 17:25

Congratulations Summery and Neenz!

Emster I am impressed with your trip into London, when my LO eventually arrives, I'll have to pop round to get your experts tips on how to get out and about so quickly.

Hector, I think I need to follow your lead on the don't call us, we'll call you front. I too am getting numerous tenuous calls from all and sundry to find out if I am ok, code for where's the baby, as though news like that would have slipped my mind. On Saturday, my parents called me on 5 separate occasions. I narrowly escaped an evening visit by going to the cinema. I guess I must work harder on remembering that it is only because everyone cares.

Dreaming up a new FB status as getting a wee bit pissed off with texts..what do we think about:

  1. Weehector never thought she'd see the day when she was so desperate to have another lady stick her fingers in her fanjo.
  1. Just fuck off. Yes, I'm still waiting.
  1. Not long now :) :)
  1. Can't wait to meet my little son xxxx

2 is winning at the moment. Just one more text...

I'm another with no stretch marks (yet - hoping I've got away with it) but also nobody has rung or texted me at all to see how I am. I feel quite neglected actually :( DH's family couldn't appear less interested if they tried to be honest, I ring my mum every day anyway so she has no reason to ring me. Not really feeling neglected, I suppose its better than a constant barrage of texts and emails etc!

Got quite excited a couple of hours ago as I got really strong period pains, just like I was about to come on. Lasted about 20 minutes but then faded away again. Getting the odd achey twinge now and then since - but not convinced it is anything exciting. Still a week off my due date so I know I should just get back in the queue and keep quiet :o
