We're all nearly at the end so here is our last antenatal thread

hiya, just back from a&e at yorkhill with rileigh. The poor soul scratched her iris, the doc says luckily she did scrape her pupil as it could have affected her vision. Does anyone know where you can buy scratch mitts you can tie round the lo's wrist? I know you used to get them. X

Morning everyone.

Thought I had better come and catch up! DD and DS1 watching tv and THomas is sleeping so have 5 mins to myself!

Thomas has now switched completely onto bottles. Thought we were going to do it gradually and do some FF and some BF, but about 4 days ago Thomas just started completely refusing to do any BF! Anyway on the plus side it means DH can now help out with the feeding! I have found since he has gone onto bottles though we seem to have gone backwards though - when he was BF he was going from 10pm and not waking up until about 4am for a feed, so was thinking it wouldn't be too long b4 he was sleeping through - now he wants a bottle every 4 hours on the dot - so back to doing 10pm 2am, then 6am. I thought they were supposed to sleep longer having FF? Obviously nobody has told Thomas that!

We are trying to hve a day out today, inbetween Thomas having his feeds and everyone else needing meals, which is always fun...!

memphis83 · 28/08/2010 08:27

oh stac poor rileigh! i econd mlic with the baby grows with folding sleeves from next ive searched for ones with ties on with no luck!
we broke down in mums car yesterday, having a 6 week old really gets them moving, we were in the sticks no signal on phone i had to run a couple of miles to find payphone, dh was on his way to us with nappies and milk as we used last ones waiting but i begeed them to be quick and it worked, so if ever your in that situation use the damsel in destress with a hungry dirty nappied baby!! (in truth he was full up with the cleanest bum ever!) Grin
whats everyone doing with their bh weekend? my dh is working so my sis is visiting later and im seeing friends tomorrow! Lyndon will be meeting all my mates for 1st time!

DesperateHousewife21 · 28/08/2010 08:43

mlic I will def go next week but we have a man coming to install something as we've cancelled Sky and moved to talktalk. The prices Sky were charging us just got ridiculous.
Theres another group Im going to aswell, the tums to one I said about. You have to book that so no chickening out for me lol.

Didn't really have a good night last night. He eventually went down at 11, woke at half 1, fed then woke at half 4 and grunted for ages, I knew he wasnt in pain- no crying or anything so left him in moses basket and put duvet over my head!
Woke at 6 then its a bit hazy but eventually woke up fully at 7:45.

Getting my hair done today woo! Really cant wait, will be first 'me' time since Dylan was born.
I love him more than anything but looking forward to someone looking after ME for a change!

stac14 · 28/08/2010 12:35

mlic have you thought about changing him to hungry baby milk? I know the hv say little and often is ok but you have another ds to see to. I have just changed rileigh because she at 12oz within 4 and a half hours. Keeps them fuller longer.

violet cool pic, was a good day

memphis think i'll have to be creative and buy ribbon to sew it on.

OP posts:
memphis83 · 28/08/2010 14:34

stac i should have done that my mum and i own a knitting and sewing business but i never sew!!! and cant knit! i had all these plans when i was pregnant but didnt sew anything, since lyndons been born i made some crib bumpers but only because they were £30 in john lewis and it cost me £2 for fabric to do my own!! i samefully pay little old ladies to knit lyndon blankets and jackets!

Evening all,

Ive got lovely soft swishy hair after having it cut today Grin was quite nice to have half an hour 'me' time.
DP took Dylan round the shops, he cried quite a bit apparently lol, he was tired (Dylan obv not DP!)

I had a nice hour and a half nap this afternoon aswell, I really wish DP was around more so I could just sleep instead of waiting til Dylan's asleep. He's def awake more during the day now, just hope this means better sleeping at night.

He's been in bed since 9 in his cute little sleeping bag!

tsc Im intrigued to know what your partner has done but will have to wait til tomoro as Im off to bed!

Morning all! Hope the long weekend is going well for everyone. :)

I've been expressing pretty regularly, EmsieRo. I use the Avent Isis Electric Pump. I got the kit which included the storage bag, manual attachment and battery pack since I intend to express while I'm doing my Keep in Touch days at work. They do storage pots too with an adapter for the pump, which can be put in the freezer and fit in the bottle warmer - which has a defrost setting. Handy. Grin

I express at least once a day, normally at about 10:30am while Mindy is having her long morning nap. This yields between 4-6 fl oz in total, taking about 10-15 minutes per side. That then is enough for DH to give Mindy in a bottle in the evening at about 7pm (after I feed at 6pm...) and that then keeps her satisfied until about 8.30pm, so I can at least grab a short break during the manic cluster feeding.

I also use the pump occasionally first thing in the morning if I'm particularly engorged, just to soften everything up so it's easier for Mindy to latch. I needed it this morning, she slept from 10pm until... 7am! Shock The full night of sleep was fantastic, long may it continue, but I did wake up with boulders in my bra. Confused

I did manage to feed her and express an additional 4 fl oz in that first sitting today though. Grin I might go and try to express a bit more in a minute, while she's having her morning nap. Build up a bit of a stockpile so I may someday be able to go out during the evening-!

Yeah, I can dream. Wink

DesperateHousewife21 · 29/08/2010 10:09

Omg spirael I am SO Envy of the long sleep you had! I was up at 1, then half 4, then half 6, then 7:15 and that was it.

Maybe I should express more often so he takes a full bottle and see what happens.

Lol mlic!
Sam won't go longer than 2.5 hours at night without a feed so I'm equally Envy of anyone who gets longer than that! I've tried expressing and stuffing him full but it doesn't work, he can down 8oz and still wake up in 2 hours wanting a feed.

emsie totally up to you, but before you splash out £90 on a breast pump, maybe just try the tolled yippee manual one? It's only £10 in walks at the moment. I'm getting 8oz in under 10mins with it and doesn't seem to give me hand cramp. Rather than pumping lots, try holding the trigger in so the suction is there for a few seconds at a time (I do up to 20) and the milk just flows rather than pumping lots (makes boobs sore and achey wrists)!

stac as others have said baby grows with flippy sleeves are good. Also, we find socks pulled up to the elbows tend to stay put! Scratch mitts are a waste of time, my kids never seemto keep them on for more than 2 minutes!

beckyg123 · 29/08/2010 19:31

hey girls,

sam attached so typing one handed!
i'm still breastfeeding. using tommee tippee manual pump and express 150ml in mornings but its mostly watery milk- not much fat so not very filling i wouldn't think???
when dh is off i sit in hot bath and express- i got much more creamy milk then- don't know if it comes out more easily when warm? just guessing!
Sam having a growth spurt so been wailing without my boob for hours :(
he has had a great day though - loads of amazing smiles and great interaction!

thanks for putting photo up violet it was great to all meet up - the babies are all gorgeous! hopefully do it again soon :)

been having some irrational thoughts over last 2 days about cot death- really have to be stern withmyself to control my runaway thoughts- don't know where its come from- i suppose i can't believe how lucky we are and can't imagine.... oh dear- STOP! Agh... really tearful and panicky.

Gracie123 · 29/08/2010 19:50

Maybe it's the time of day you are expressing that gives you different types of milk? Not sure really.

Aaaarghhh!!! Why did you have to talk about cot death! I was obsessed with it until about a week ago, and I'd just forgotten... Wink We'll have to work at not being so morbid.

I have just absolutely binged with some guys from DH's new job on ridiculously stodgy sunday lunch followed by copious amounts of chocolate cake. I look and feel pregnant again.

So much for the diet...

What's the facebook group actually called? Did I miss that somewhere further back? Would love to join if I can find it Blush

beckyg123 · 29/08/2010 19:59

Sorry gracie probs not the best place to talk about it- your right, stop being morbid- must be the female worry hormone kicking in! its so rare that we are silly to worry like this.
Your lunch sounds great!
I just typed in babies july 10 into the search bit in FB and it came up. there is a link further back in the thread.
