Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:

Glad it's not just me and the soup addiction (green thai chicken - yum). Usually have an irrational hatred of chicken, but can't get enough. Green Thai fits in though, as can only taste really spicy food at the moment. Bring back my taste buds!
Sickness has pretty much died down, but am still exhausted - sleeping all weekend, waking up at 11.30 (luckily I work at home or would so be sacked!).
Had NT scan last night (nhs free dating one last week; this was private to check NT). NT measured at 1mm so am happy, but won't feel relaxed until Fri when I get blood test results too.
Good luck with all the scans today : ) Here's to lots of wrigglers! (And surprise twins!).

SemperEadem · 27/07/2010 13:25

Hi all,

just got back from scan and thankfully all is well!

I burst into tears at first as I thought I couldn't see a heartbeat but I was just being impatient. The sonographer was lovely.

Baby looked as though it was breakdancing! They do the NT testing here and so far so good as the measurements were low but I had bloods done too so it will be a week before they come back.

So relieved. My edd remains the same! Means our baby was conceived on holiday in Cornwall! I may write to Bosinver and see if I can get a discount for next year!

I am also having mega soup cravings too and am regularly making homemade soup in great big pans! Not great in this heat but it is all I want to eat.

Hope everybody else having their scans today get good news too xx

moonminmama · 27/07/2010 13:46

Good luck with the scans today. Mine is next Tuesday (3rd aug) dh and I are both very excited! Especially dh because he has watched me being so ill with morning sickness I think he wants to see something nice for a change. Hopefully it will remind him of why he has such a miserable moaning wife at the moment!

Fingers crossed for everyones scans. Looking forward to hearing all the happy news throughout the day

moonminmama · 27/07/2010 13:51

Semper I'm glad to hear your scan went well. Makes me all the more excited about mine! I am not entirely sure of our due date so looking forward to finding out whether we are due in jan or feb

CheeseChomper · 27/07/2010 13:55

Hi all,

Had my scan yesterday and it was mixed news.

My baby is, in theory, fine- it was wriggling around all over the place which was lovely, in fact, too much! The sonographer kept having to poke my tummy to try and get him to move into the right place! (I say 'him', it's a 70% chance of being a boy apparently!).

Bad news is i've been given a 1:74 chance of Downs Syndrome, based on my blood results and the fact the baby has a Ductus Venosus Reverse Flow, which makes me high risk and is a big shock considering i'm only 26. Me and DP went away to have a think, and have decided to go back to the hospital tomorrow and have a CVS, so we know for definite either way. It won't affect whether or not we keep the baby, but I can't go through the rest of my pregnancy not knowing what to expect, and if the baby does have DS, it would be good to prepare so we can still get excited about our little one. Good news about the screening is nasal bone was present and nuchal fold absolutely fine, and growth all spot on, so fingers crossed.

It's just so stressful, as I know there's a chance of miscarriage with the CVS, but not knowing will probably cause me (and therefore the baby) massive stress. I also worry that even if baby doesn't have DS, he will have some kind of heart problem. It's all been a bit of an anti-climax really- I was so worried about seeing the baby alive, that it didn't even occur to me that anything bad would be found (naive I know!). Been at work today with a whopping headache and trying not to cry . Just feel really deflated, but at least we'll know by the end of the week either way...

Oh, and can someone please update the stats- i've been brought forward by a whole day, to 31st January!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/07/2010 14:07

There's still a 98.6% chance that your baby doesn't have Down's Syndrome -- try to hang on to that. Good news about the nasal bone (did they factor that into the risk calculation or just make a note of it?). Are you overweight at all? I've been told that that can skew the blood results towards a higher risk result.

And you'll almost certainly get a detailed cardiac scan at 20 weeks now, so you will have a very good idea of whether there's any heart problem. If there is then there is a lot of expertise on Mumsnet from mothers who've been through it before, so you are in the right place.

Deliaskis · 27/07/2010 14:41

Back from scan and all OK so far. I've been put back though, am only 10+3 not 11+5 (which is actually as I suspected based on when conceived so new EDD is Feb 19th.

Will have to re-schedule NS as this was to be tomorrow but it will be too early now.

I was a complete emotional mess in the waiting room though, good job we were the only ones there!

Sorry you had mixed news CC, but as PLIML said, you still have over 98% chance of your baby not having DS, which is still vastly weighted in your favour.

Fingers crossed for you for tomorrow, will be thinking of you.

D

cler · 27/07/2010 15:10

Today seems to be everyones scan day.Glad scans went well. Well i am one happy bunny now. My scan went really well and they could see so much like heart chambers, and other internal things. The baby was moving round lots and wriggling its little fingers. My due date is actually 26th Jan but i would still like to stay on this thread.

Deliaskis · 27/07/2010 15:21

Congrats cler, glad it went well. We didn't see nearly that much but I'm quite a bit behind you - EDD 19th Feb. Congrats for lovely scan day!

D

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/07/2010 15:27

Congratulations cler and Deliaskis and Semper (and also CheeseChomper, because whatever the stress you have a lovely little lively baby in there)!

Still no word from Chloe...

ledkr · 27/07/2010 15:56

cheese c i will be going through all that tomorrow so really feeling for you. As people said its still unlikely and with nasal bone and low nt its very unlikely. Very brave of you to opt for cvs i will too but praying not to make that choice. I am 43 so am prepared for it thought.Sending you all my best wishes and good vibes for tomorrow you will cope with whatever you have to together. Will frantcally be looking for an update tomorrow when i give you all mine.
Thanks everyone for your best wishes i am scared but looking forward to getting it over with and telling my kids at last.May pop in later but am making dh take me for a nice meal as dd is at my mums..he did ask if he could play football.. he withdrew that request when i scowled at him and then suggested a meal hah. Good to know im stil in charge.

angels1 · 27/07/2010 15:56

great to hear the good news and agree with professorlayton on cheesechompers news

I have discovered that my Doc has definately referred me to the mws and I have been assured I should have my booking in appointment through soon...

Had to have a nap this afternoon - could not keep my eyes open no matter how hard I tried. Goodness knows how I'll cope when I'm back at work!!

Think the baby brain is setting in - I was knitting my baby blanket this morning (progress is good - about 1/5 way through already), took a quick loo trip and when I came back to it I couldn't remember how to knit - I sat there for over 5 minutes with my knitting in my hands thinking 'I was doing this 2 minutes ago, and have been knitting most days for a week or so, how can I not remember how to do it...'. Eventually I worked it out and got back into it but felt like I was going mad!

cler · 27/07/2010 16:09

Im not sure how to add photos, can anyone explain how to me so i can show you all my lovely scan pics. Good luck for tomorrow ledkr, im sure you will be fine.x

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/07/2010 16:22

MyMumsnet (at the top)

Then
(a) you need to set up a public profile page

  • Click on Set up public profile page
  • Fill in information
  • Scroll down to bottom and select "Visible to all Mumsnetters" in the pull-down list
  • Click on Save

(b) you need to upload your photos

  • Back in MyMumsnet (can't remember whether clicking on Save returns you there), click on Share photos
  • Click on Upload
  • Click on Browse to select file and fill in other information
  • Click on Send file
  • Then I can't remember what comes up, but basically it's another screen where you can put in information about the photograph. You can make it appear not quite so small by overtyping the size number with a bigger number (try 500).

If your photos are too big to upload then we'll need to tackle that first as a separate issue, but try it and see.

kat2504 · 27/07/2010 16:25

please remove me from the stats :-(
mmc at 10 weeks. All the best to the rest of you on here, hope the rest of your pregnancies go well. With any luck you'll hear from me with better news one day.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/07/2010 16:30

Really sorry to hear that, kat. Take care of yourself.

starbuck05 · 27/07/2010 16:39

Congratulations on all the scans today.
Cheesechomper congratulations on your scan, lots and lots of positive things about it - normal growth, normal NT, and lots of wriggling. If NT is normal, than I would have thought it's (?his) heart must be doing pretty well, so hopefully they are all really good signs. Like Prof says the odds are heavily in your favour, but like you say if there are some complications then you will be able to prepare really well. Best of luck for the CVS. Sxx

starbuck05 · 27/07/2010 16:42

Sorry kat I missed your post - so sorry to hear your news, I'm sure you'll be back soon, xx

cler · 27/07/2010 16:47

So sorry Kat, take care of yourself. Thanks professorLayton, I think the pics have downloaded so you can all see my little baby now.x

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 27/07/2010 16:48

Aww, cute...

tadjennyp · 27/07/2010 17:21

Sorry to hear your news kat and please take care of yourself.

I'm glad so many people are having scans and getting the news they wanted too. Good luck with the CVS cheese. I'm going to see the obstetrician on Thursday and have no idea what he will do. Hopefully he will try to find the heartbeat at least. [hopeful emoticon]

knittakid · 27/07/2010 17:32

Hope to see you soon on another thread kat, and take care.

Good news, even for C, whom as everyone else has said has the odds on her side.

Good luck tomorrow ledkr.

I'm off to london tomorrow, so might miss the updates, but will be thinking of you all!

PDR · 27/07/2010 18:34

So sorry Kat take care of yourself x

I rang the hospital today and asked if I had been booked in for scan and they said they have my paperwork but its not yet on the computer but should hear something in the next few days. To me that sounds like "oh shit we've forgotten her, lets book her in now" lol but nevermind, at least I've reminded them I exist!

On a sadder note, I have had some spotting this afternoon and light cramping Should I call the doctor in the morning? Or wait and see if it gets worse?

CheeseChomper · 27/07/2010 18:37

Thanks ladies for your kind words .

Fingers crossed that tomorrow goes well, but it's in the lap of the gods, what will be will be I guess! Got the rest of the week off work (well, doing bits from home), so i'll be (hopefully) chilling out and thinking happy thoughts!

Professor - We will be having a cardio scan at 22 weeks as advised by the consultant yesterday, so feel in good hands in that respect. Apparently a fairly high proportion of babies who have this reverse flow thing seen at 12 week scan have 'righted' it by 20 weeks, so holding out hope for that. It's so confusing, as have also been told by someone else that 80% of babies with DS have this reverse flow, but only 3% of 'normal' babies do. But then told that 75% of babies with DS don't have a nasal bone, but mine does! All these stats are starting to drive me crackers!

Ledkr - I'll be thinking of you tomorrow as well, please do keep us updated. Hopefully all will be hunkydory. I'll let you know how the CVS goes. Not sure if i'm brave, or just a bit stupid to be putting me and baby through it when the outcome won't affect whether we decide to keep baby or not.... Just need to know either way in order to prep and get my head round it IF little one is affected.

Starbuck - You're right, lots of wriggling does reassure me, and makes me feel quite protective already either way- it feels like baby has a proper personality even this early (ridiculous first time mother emoticon!). I think I was even more surprised to hear about the heart problem, as each time they listened for various heart-type things, it all sounded fine and regular, and the sonographer didn't mention anything whilst scanning me (we were only told when they were giving us the overall results of the screening in a little room). The consultants don't seem particularly arsed at the moment with what they found heart-wise, so i'm praying that's a good sign!

Forgot to say, congrats everyone else on their scans, let's hope there are many more positive ones!

cler · 27/07/2010 19:05

I cant believe how there can be some really sick people in this world. I posted a picture of my scan on emmas diary on facebook and asked what people think and some sick person replied to it saying its a himshe abort it. How can people possibly think that way.
