Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:

Hi everyone, I'm back from my time away (6 weeks, lucky me!). Missed you all and MN but can't read all 6 weeks worth of posts. Hope all well and enjoying pregnancy. All well with me, I assume, looking forward to next MW appt, hope I can hear the heartbeat.

Re Forbidden Food, with DD I avoided everything religiously and got toxoplasmosis (from badly washed salad normally apparently) (she is absolutely fine), this time round I am just eating what I fancy, which is mainly cornflakes, but have eaten pate, parma ham, lots of cheese, soft boiled eggs...

smallblackflowers · 30/08/2010 21:00

Welcome back debka.
Knitta my sister had prenatal depression in the first trimester of her last pregnancy, it improved as the weeks progressed and her sickness and tiredness faded. Hope you feel better soon.

All this talk of forbidden food led me to partake in a M&S prawn mayo sandwich again today. Yum. I had been having a pretty rough day though, sat in the local NHS Walk-in Centre with DD and her rash, followed by a trip to the out of hours GP when the walk-in centre couldn't provide a diagnosis (not that they could either - we've ended up with a few different medicines for her to cover a number of bases, all of course foul tasting Sad).

Deliaskis · 31/08/2010 09:59

Grin at the people starting to fall off the wagon (or never having been on it) on foods to avoid in pregnancy. I felt like I was being ever so daring as I finally succumbed and had some brie on a cracker on Saturday night. It was sooooooo good. Prawn sandwiches are sounding tempting too! I've eaten soft boiled eggs all the way through so far.

September tomorrow and starting to feel a bit autumnal here, which in turn makes me feel like winter and arrival of baby is approaching. I know it's a long way to go yet, but I love autumn and winter, and the feeling of approaching cold weather etc. is exciting to me (I look forward to it more than summer), that in my head it makes the baby's arrival feel much closer. Yes I'm a freak.

sweetnitanitro · 31/08/2010 10:10

I ate some salami the other week, it didn't even occur to me that I wasn't meant to Hmm. I do try to be careful though, I haven't had any steak because I like it so rare that it's still cold in the middle.

DD has been the toddler from hell this weekend, crying all night and all day and she's gone off solids so I am BF constantly. Poor thing has had 3 teeth through in the last 2 weeks :(

Hope everyone is starting to feel full of energy and less sicky :)

angels1 · 31/08/2010 12:09

I'm very excited as finally managed to get myself maternity clothes shopping this morning :) Is it me or do almost all maternity ranges in shops consist mainly of jeans and casual tops? Maybe it's the shops I'm going to! I'm finding it really hard to get stuff for work.

Think I'll have to resort to buying clothes online, but hate doing that incase they don't fit and it's all a cerfuffle ( Hmm to my spelling) to return.

Managed to get a nice pair or maternity black cord trousers (that will hopefully be smart enough for work) and a couple of tops from next.

sweetnitanitro · 31/08/2010 13:01

Ooh, cool Grin I love shopping! Dotty P's has got some smart maternity clothes although it might depend on the store. I think you can order from the website.

I got some maternity stuff off the Next site (or it might have been the catalogue, can't remember!) when I was expecting DD and they were great about returns.

cler · 31/08/2010 13:04

Im starting to get excited now that my 20 week scan is only 1 week away and i cant believe im 19 weeks already.pregnancy has gone very fast so far. Does anyone know if there having a girl or boy yet and does anyone have there scan soon. My bump is well and truly growing now and i think i have another boy inside there. The weather is gorgeous here so hopefully we will get a few weeks of nice weather before the horid winter weather arrives. Ive bought my baba a rainforest musical delux bouncer and cant wait to see the baba using it.x

Deliaskis · 31/08/2010 13:17

Also have only really seen casual maternity clothes. Not so bothered for work as I can wear jeans in the office, but am wondering about Christmas etc. I know I'm not going to be out late partying etc. but would like to look a little dressed up at least.

Also have a singing engagement on Friday which is meant to be 'black and bling' dress code and I normally wear 'going out' style black trousers (e.g. satin or sparkly in some way) and current ones don't do up anymore. Also shoes are a nightmare. I have boring flat black 'school' type shoes that I wear for work and with jeans, and then loads of really fancy heels for going out, but nothing in between, and can't face the heels at the moment. I might have a look for nice ballet pump style things.

D

angels1 · 31/08/2010 13:27

completely agree with the shoe thing deliaskis . I'm definately only up for flats at the minute. Think I'll get a pair of ballet pumps too as they work well with trousers and skirts (imo anyway).

I ended up ordering a dress from next and hope it fits. I'm a bit concerned it might be a bit low cut for work (black corsage mesh dress from next if you're interested) - don't want to give my students too much excitement (or maybe a case of scaring them! Shock ) but sure I can get some kind of vest top to go under and cover any modesty. It looks like it would work for ocassions too (like christmas etc). I'm sure I could just live in the cords and tshirts I got for work, but I like being/feeling smart - makes me feel like I'm efficient and organised (even if I'm not!). Next stop hunt for some comfy maternity tights/knickers.

40Weeks · 31/08/2010 14:11

Ahhh angels if you EVER find comfy maternity tights or pant splease share the info! Have never found any that didnt roll down to disgraceful levels! Am starting to get little bump (amlost 15 weeks now) and normal clothes too tight and maternity stuff too big so just feeling frumpy. have been to bodu conditioning today and still doing body pump and spin classes (all given the okay by MW and class tutor BTW) as determined not to be fatty mummy like I was last time but am sooo tired, its so hard.

With regards to naught foods, I shoved some slami in a sarnie last week as was starving and sometimes only certains fods will do - that was a salami day! Also had wine at the weekend although only 5% cava so dont feel tooon terrible but as much as I long for a glass of wine, the guilt consumes me.

Deliaskis, my friend had a gorgeous top from Mothercare would you believe that looked lovely with jeans. Black chiffon with frilly arms but not too frilly. Looked great and perfect for Xmas/party season. She is due in 2 weeks so have told her I have my eye on it - worth also looking on Asos.com as they always have a massive maternity section, often with a clearance section too. I feel bad buying maternity clothes for whats likely to be my last pregnancy, but all my others are soooo tatty, plus leant them to friends so well worn! Hence only buying sale items! Next sales are good too.

I want some maternity footless tights - if anyone sees any please do let me know!

Hope everyone keeping well

40Weeks · 31/08/2010 14:11

I meant body conditioning. Not 'bodu' Stupid fat fingers

knittakid · 31/08/2010 14:16

Thanks all for the good thoughts, I will mention it to the mw on Monday, but it is getting better.

cler I'm exited at the 20 week scan and it is 6 weeks away for me!! good luck!

My cousin had her first baby yesterday, it was induced and ended up being a cesarean, she lives in Argentina, and aparently the doctors want the births to be within office hours, so nothing suprising there; but it has really worried me, as nobody in my inmediate female family has had a natural birth, and I really want to be able to do it, is it silly to want it? should I just want a healthy baby however s/he gets here? I suppose I do, but for some reason I really don't want a cesarean. Does anybody else have such silly thoughts at this stage? Blush.

I might do some shopping therapy this afternoon with a tax rebate that just arrived from 4 years ago! Have a nice week everyone.

ElleB1980 · 31/08/2010 14:22

I had a mooch around the Bullring yesterday (shopping centre near me) and could have cried at the appalling maternity clothes selection.

Everywhere except Topshop seems so frumpy - you'd think it was 60 year old women who were getting up the duff! Loads of stuff in Next and DP was just too casual for work, I'm pushing the acceptable boundaries with leggings and tunic tops at the moment but thanks to the tip on here am now off to check out ASOS asap....

40Weeks · 31/08/2010 14:29

Knittakid I dont thinks its silly. I almost had a c section with DS1 - he was born in theatre by a last ditch attempt with the forceps before they cut me open. I dreaded the thought of being cut open while awake (both my sisters had C sections BTW so its not like I didnt know that they were both fine!) I just couldnt get my head round it. I was sooo happy that he came out with the forceps. But you are totally within your rights to want a normal/natural birth.

Am sure there are things you can do to help minimise chances, like exercise (walking, swimming, ante natal yoga) drinking raspberry leaf tea (its meant to be a uterine tonic, does it really work? Who knows but cant hurt) maybe having some reflexology towards end of pgcy to help get baby is position? None of these guaranteed but cant hurt, and you will feel like you have done everything possible to make it happen. But do remember that you and baby's safety are paramount and you arent letting anyone down if you do end up having a c-section (as thats how I felt).

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 31/08/2010 14:31

I wear leggings (with boots) instead of tights now -- agree maternity tights will not stay up (well, perhaps the crazy £30 a pair type will, but I'm not planning to try).

40Weeks · 31/08/2010 14:42

Yes did buy some maternity jeggings but they are quite thick and I dont need any help making my legs look wider Grin so I thought tights would be more flattering.

Also on a totally different note, is anyone on here planning a homebirth ?

angels1 · 31/08/2010 14:58

40weeks I cannot believe you are managing body pump - upmist respect to you! I did that every now and again when I went to the gym and always felt super strong afterwards, but couldn't even lift the big weights to pass over to you, let alone do a class! My fave class at my gym was definately step aerobics - loved all the tricky routines and that you had your own 'spot' by your step so no accidently banging in to people/being banged into on twirly bits that happened in regular aerobics classes....sigh...yes, I miss my step aerobics classes....

Not a home birth for me 40weeks. I quite like the idea but mentioned it to DH and he looked like he was going to choke on his own tongue at the idea! We don't live too close to a hospital so I guess if something went wrong...

Didn't realise maternoty tights would be another thing that fell down all the time - my maternity jeans keep falling down and are annoying me greatly, but maybe that's as my bunp isn't big enough yet Wink . Maybe I'll try some super big regular tights and just live with the nora batty look.

My scan in just under 5 weeks - cannnot wait.

americanexpat · 31/08/2010 15:00

cler - I have my scan in 3 weeks and really looking forward to it. I look properly pregnant now and it's impossible to disguise.

I'm properly jealous of everyone's shopping. Very few shops have maternity ranges in store here so I'm stuck with shopping online. If I can drag myself off the sofa at the weekend, maybe I'll pop to Edinburgh.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 31/08/2010 15:02

That's why I do the boots -- boots come up to just below the knee and skirts come down to just about knee length so there's only a centimetre or so on display and there's a limit to how wide even my legs can be made to look in the space of a centimetre...

OK, it's a large limit. But it's there.

40Weeks · 31/08/2010 15:07

Its not easy Angels but my teacher is fierce and am more scared of NOT going!! Have never done step, am a bit of a gym scaredy cat - once I get to know a class I stick to it for fear of looking like a wally in new class, esp where co-ordination is required. I go in my lunch hour from work as it stops me spending money in the shops so double reasons to still go.

I had a homebirth with DS2 and hoping for another one, all being well - just wondered if anyone else was planning it. We are only 10 mins from hospital too - had horrid time in there with DS1 so didnt want to go back if I could help it. Although DS was admitted to hospital over bank hol weekend and they were brilliant so feel slightly better about the place if I do end up there for whatever reason. Would love a waterbirth but nowhere to put a great big birthing pool at home Sad.

Love the scans, its so amazing to be able to see your baby like that. Any plans for 3D? A few of my friends had them although those scans always seem to give the game away re baby's sex, even if you hadnt planned to find out...I am tempted but once I know, I cant 'unknow' IYSWIM.

40Weeks · 31/08/2010 15:09

Thanks Prof - have just bought some Ugg boots too as a super special treat (had leftover bday and xmas money which is amazing, it usually burns a hole right through my pocket) so spent it on them as thought they would be nice and cosy for a bump-y winter.

angels1 · 31/08/2010 15:23

we're hoping for a 3d scan 40weeks . We thought we'd copy the dvd you get and give it to parents/PIL as an extra christmas present as a suprise (as will probably get it done end nov/beg dec time). Think the cost is quite reasonable considering the cost of my private early scan - we paid £90 for a private scan at about 7 weeks and it took a few minutes - seemed really quick, but the same place do 3d scans and they cost £150 and their website says you get a 20/30 minutes dvd of the footage and also a cd with piccies on. ALso says if the baby is in the wrong position then you have to go for a walk to try and move it (???) and they do it again without any extra charge. Not sure how that compares to other places though - will be interesting if anyone else gets one done to see what the differences are.

40Weeks · 31/08/2010 15:31

How exciting angels, what a lovely present! So do you want to know what you are having or are you going to ask them to keep it secret?

angels1 · 31/08/2010 15:53

Oh I want to know for sure - can't wait to find out! And it will make name deciding much easier (although we think we now have a boys first name chosen. My preferred girls name has been pinched by someone I know so can't have that/don't want that now). I'm thinking if they arn't 100% sure at my 20 week scan on that one, hopefully the 3d scan will be able to confirm it for us.

Deliaskis · 31/08/2010 15:55

Thanks for recs on non-casual maternity clothes ladies Smile.
