Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:

Does anyone else look about 20 weeks pregnant, at least? It might be because I am so bloated, but good grief, if it carries on like this I will be enormous!

sweetnitanitro · 03/08/2010 16:43

I look more pregnant than I did at this stage with DD! I didn't show at all until about 19 weeks last time but as my stomach muscles are already stretched to buggery, I think I am showing earlier this time.

I had a proper pregnancy forgetfulness moment in the shower just now (that's right, I'm no longer in my pyjamas!)- I looked down and thought "what the flipping heck has happened to my stomach?!", completely forgetting that I am in fact pregnant

PDR, don't you just hate days like that! Hope your phone survived.

moonminmama · 03/08/2010 17:06

Scan today went well. Baby very very wriggly! Healthy little boy/girl. We asked if possible to know the sex but was told it's only possible from 19 weeks onwards.

DH was elated to see lo wriggling around. He has put up with so much over the last few weeks because of MS so this was really good for him (and me too obviously ) I was close with my dates. I was told today I'm due on feb 4th (2days after dh birthday) I thought it would be first week in Feb but wasn't sure.

Well there's my good news anyway

hope all is well with e eryone else

jackinthebump · 03/08/2010 17:21

Well, I had my scan today! All is well sonographer was quite amusing, there is the head, that's a heartbeat and err there is another one behind! At which point I burst into laughter as did DH! Sonographer looked quite shocked until we said we had been talking about just that at the weekend!

So I have now been transfered from MW led to consutant led care and have another scan at 16 weeks! Some benefits I guess! Although they couldn't get the NT done as they wouldn't co-operate! So after 30 min of trying I said not to bother - it was getting very uncomfortable!

tadjennyp · 03/08/2010 17:32

Good news moomin and jack! So it's definitely twins then? How exciting!

jackinthebump · 03/08/2010 17:40

Yep definitely twins! Got some good scan pics showing them both! Having 1 baby is scary enough, 2, well not entirely sure whether to laugh or cry! Just pleased they are ok I guess!
I have a twin sister and have hated being a twin, we are identical but nothing a like at all and have always fort like cat and dog - my two, interestingly spent most of the time on during the scan kicking each other! So will be fun time ahead!(hmm)

sweetnitanitro · 03/08/2010 18:10

Glad to hear your good news moomin and jack. I'm sure you'll cope admirably jack although I think I would be scared too! I don't know much about twins, can they tell if they are identical or fraternal (is that the word?)?

moonminmama · 03/08/2010 18:15

Wow twins. Gosh I would be nervous too. Although dh wanted 3 kids, we have 1 so secretly I think he was hoping fortwins this time around so he would get his wish (I've told him this is my last pregnancy!) lol

TallulahBelly14 · 03/08/2010 18:17

Hello ladies, glad most of you are feeling better (or happy to be a bit sick in your case ledkr!).

I got up this morning and convinced myself that the whole pregnancy was just a delusion, and I'd made the whole thing up! But then I remembered that I'd seen the baby at my 12 wk scan. Phew! But I'm starting to feel a bit disappointed about not looking or feeling pregnant. I should probably just enjoy it while it lasts and stop being a crazy person!!

Re birth stories, I'll do lots of research nearer the time, but for now I'm trying to stay away from those. I foolishly watched that One Born Every Minute programme a while ago, and decided the less I know, the better!

moonminmama · 03/08/2010 18:22

I have been thinking about giving birth too. I vividly remember saying to my mum in between pushing with ds ... Don't ever let me do this again!! However as crazy as it may sound I got quite excited when I went to the hospital for my scan today. That feeling of excitement when it all starts and the happiness/relief/euphoria when it's over and you finally have your lo in your arms

jackinthebump · 03/08/2010 18:27

From todays scan it looks likely they are identical as could only see 1 placenta and no sac membranes but could just be the positioning, so they will check again at 16 week scan. I'm hoping for a boy and a girl and one born before midnight the other after midnight but maybe that is just my wishful thinking! Doesn't matter either way! DH is absolutely made up as is my dad and PIL. SIL almost hyperventilating over the phone when we told her, was so funny!

gigglet · 03/08/2010 18:31

Hi, I haven't posted in here much in a while.

Mainly because I've got this feeling that I've had a MC and just couldn't cope reading about other peoples joy and sadness. Nothing really to base it on except I just don't feel pregnant any more. I've seen it mentioned that its common, but that doesn't really help the feeling.

I have my scan on the 12th so not long now until I find out!

angels1 · 03/08/2010 18:36

great news from the scans. I think we have 2 sets of twins now (??) jack and tabby.

I feel tallulahs pain in watching that 'one born every minute'. I saw one of those too and maybe a year ago a bbc dawn porter documentry on giving birth and it scared the living daylights out of me. I'm praying we don't get forced to watch some birth video in an antinatal class as I get really squeemish and faint about it all and couple not cope having to watch it with a room full of people (have no idea why as I'm not a squeamish person at all....there's jyst something about the whole thing that freaks me out a bit). Not sure if they even do that kind of thing at antenatal classes though.

Looked up cost of NCT classes and they are all tricky times for DH and I but discovered getting one on one classes from a local doulah covering pretty much the same things might be cheaper..I wondered if anyone had any experience of this or if they thought it might be a good/bad idea?

angels1 · 03/08/2010 18:38

didn't see your post there gigglet and didn't want it to look lik ei'd ignored you. Fingers crossed for you it'll all be fine - things do get better supposidly about this time, but it's hard to shake a 'gut' feeling. please let us know how you get on and in the mean time feel free to vent on here.

jackinthebump · 03/08/2010 18:51

Gigglet - I had much the same feeling! Didn't have a break in symptoms, no bleeding, actually started throwing up rather than just feeling really sick, was very nervous about scan this morning and turns out there is 2! My SIL said she had the same thing, got to a few weeks before scan and just didn't feel pregnant - nephew is now 3!

MizK · 03/08/2010 19:15

Hi all, just been catching up on the thread. Really sorry that some people have had bad news and wishing them lots of luck should they try again.
It's so nice to read about the scans and people seeing the babies at last - my scan is tomorrow and I have to say I'm almost dreading it - our last pg was a missed mc therefore the scan was when we found out so, morbid as it may sound, I'm kind of steeling myself for the worst? Reading Gigglet's comment, I can really empathise and just hope the scan puts your fears to rest so you can enjoy the rest of your pg.

TallulahBelly14 · 03/08/2010 19:50

Good luck with the scan MizK, hopefully it'll just be a huge relief this time.

And yay for twins Jack! I'm sure they'll get on brilliantly, all the twins I know do anyway. I was half hoping for twins as we're stopping at 2, so much more economical

smallblackflowers · 03/08/2010 20:23

Ledkr, my SPD was pretty bad ? was on crutches by the end and everything except lying in the bath / floating around in a swimming pool was painful. Have had some physio since but haven't been doing my exercises for the last 8 weeks due to general crapness / tiredness. And no to the headaches. Hope yours improve.

Chloe and moominmama thanks for the concern about my DD ? she is just 17 months, and this her first ever proper illness. Thankfully her temperature was back to normal this morning and she's just a bit snuffly now.

Angels really glad that you're getting your appetite back. I'm about to make a microwave syrup sponge. Yum.

Wiggles ? I'm reading The Rough Guide to Pregnancy at the moment ? a friend lent it to me, also enjoying the humour.

Moominmama and jackinthebump? glad your scans went well ? twins too

Gigglet ? do try not to worry, hard though it may be, its a difficult time when the early pregnancy symptoms start to fade out and you haven't yet had any proof of your pregnancy. I can't imagine what it must have been like in the days before routine scans.

Congrats on scans and twins! wow!
Gigglet go back over the thread. lots of us felt like that and were ok. in fact the unlucky ones had no clue it would seem. I felt a bit like it today actually but reassured myself I'd felt like it before and all ok.
Cant remember who said but i have a huge hard bump and yes could be around 20wks. Quite embarrassing. I tell strangers I am few more weeks cos just don't look normal. ha ha

tadjennyp · 03/08/2010 23:05

That was me! My bump is huge but then I'm older (37) and it's my third so everyone keeps reassuring me it's normal!

earlgreyismynectar · 03/08/2010 23:15

Hi everyone, hope you're all well, great to hear most of you are feeling better as we move into the 2nd! Congrats jack on twins! How lovely! Congrats too to everyone else with good scans, it's so reassuring.

Sbf & ledkr I too had SPD last time when I was carrying DD though not nearly as bad as yours SBF. It's pretty broad ranging in symptoms across different people, I researched it as much as I could at the time & remember being horrified to learn that SPD can last beyond birth with some women though I think that's less common. It effected me for about 2 weeks & all I could do is shuffle like an old lady & keep my legs together!! Unbelievable pain though. Was wondering too if it might hit again.

Great news too about Honeywitch really good to hear.

Going back to ML chat, I too am hoping with annual leave to be off from Xmas for the full 12 months woohoo! Only got 9 with DD. It'll be a struggle financially but worth it.

I too have times of feeling not pregnant, v common, good luck with your scan gigglet. hope I have name right? Can't refer back as on iPhone!

I caved and bought a Doppler on eBay for £20! I'll pick it up from P.O tomorrow so will let you know if for £20 it actually works!! I feel I need reassurance despite still feeling symptoms and also looking 5 months down the line already! I don't remember any of this worry with my last (& First) preg - ignorance was definately bliss, I had 2 standard scans and potential problems didn't even seem to occur to me. Older now though & obviously more prone to worry!

Congrats too to the other new older mum who has just joined us (sorry your name escapes me just now & can't check!!).

I've been feeling really light headed these past few days, apparently it's a common symptom at this stage. Anyone else?

ledkr · 04/08/2010 07:31

Am also hoping tho take yr off more for dd than baby. was single parent with her and have always worked. want to give her some time too.
Spd was controlled by osteopathy but not sure I want to go to same one as he is the guy who claimed to be sperm doner for Michael Jacksons kids when he died. don't know if I can trust myself to stick to to small talk.just hope don't get it.
Strange about the early bumps. I am old too and 5th baby but abs were well exercised before. am going to Aqua aerobics tonight. its lovely.they let my 8 yr old join in. I find it very bonding as we giggle thru it.
Hope everyone is feeling good today and worries not too great. think there is a scan today so lots of luck.

Chloe55 · 04/08/2010 08:24

Lol Ledkr love your thoughts on not being able to keep to small talk! I know I couldn't!

Congrats on the scans. What a shame you didn't get on with your twin Jack but that doesn't mean that your twins won't get on either. Do you get on with her now?

Well it is National Play Day today and was hoping to spend a lovely day with my childnminded children at a local event with picnic etc, looking at the weather that isn't happening

Might be tmi for after saying I had no libido guess who actually did get excited last night - dh actually said he thought he was dreaming (it's been a long time, in fact, let me work it out...erm...8 weeks or there abouts!)

americanexpat · 04/08/2010 09:14

Congrats, jackinthebump! Did you have a hunch it would be twins or was it a lucky guess?

My stomach is looking huge as well - not sure if it can be described as a bump yet though. I feel absolutely massive.
