Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ledkr · 03/08/2010 07:56

Me again. just wondered does anyone else start everyday with a headache? I have to take paracetamol just to get up. Vile.

Chloe55 · 03/08/2010 07:57

Aw that's good news about honeywitch.

I hope your dd is feeling better sbf, it's so sad when they are poorly, isn't it?

I have stopped feeling constantly sick but I randomly gip and wretch throughout the day now about 20 times which is doing my nut in - it's so embarrassing, I can be mid conversation with someone and just start gipping!

Had some brown discharge again yesterday but am hoping it's all to do with my cervix and nothing more sinister.

angels1 · 03/08/2010 08:28

GREAT news about honeywitch, and glad to hear back bfrom chloe that all is well

Also good to hear people seem to be gradually recovering from all the nasty first trimesterness. I'm starting to get through days without the need for constantly sleeping, and sick feeling is more up and down as opposed to down and down

Started getting bad backache yesterday thought which is a bit concerning as had a slipped disc last year and was told I would have a tough time during pregnancy because of it as it's still not quite in place. It was at the stage for a month or so where I could barely walk. I spent yesterday walking around like an old woman! Hope that's not a sign of things to come... I have my booking in tomorrow (finally ) so will mention it then and see if they can do something early before it gets too problematic...knowing NHS the waiting list will be several months though...sometimes I wonder if their logic is if they leave it long enough we might not need to treatment.

americanexpat · 03/08/2010 08:35

I'm used to short leaves as tadjennyp mentioned - 6 to 8 weeks if you're entitled to any at all - so most women work up until the birth. I have a desk job with the ability to work from home if needed, so not physically demanding at all. I suppose DH and I need to discuss how long we can afford for me to be off work and factor in my annual leave as well.

Anyone have suggestions on where to buy maternity trousers online? There's very little selection locally and I'm not sure what size I wear as I've just lost some weight, so I'm a bit hesitant to buy something off eBay that I can't return.

moonminmama · 03/08/2010 08:51

Good morning all. SBF I hope your daughter is on the mend. It is horrible when they are poorly. It always makes me feel helpless when my ds is poorly. How old is she? My ds is 4 in a few weeks and he is so clumsy I am amazed he has t needed to be hospitalised before now!

Angels I'm sorry to hear about your back. Just as one thing seems to I
prove. Something else takes it's place!

I am feeling loads better now! I can actually bare to be in my house around the carpets withouttje instant need to throw up! I actually managed to dogje cleaning yesterday ( sounds sad but I have been really wanting to get stuck I )

we have dh's cousin and his wife coming to stay tomorrow for 3 days with their 2 kids (2 & 4 yo) so it's a good job I'm feeling better! He sprang that one on me on Friday!

Will be nice to see them but I'm a little worried as I don't think their kids have a bed time so to speak. My ds goes to bed at 7 every night other wise he turns into devil child the following day. So not sure how that's going to work!

I have my scan at 12 today. Dh and I are very excited, I am a little nervous have to admit. Fingers crossed all is ok.

Sorry this was a very 'me' post. I hope every one is feeling better and having a lovely day

angels1 · 03/08/2010 09:21

moominmama so excited for you that your carpets arn't making you too sick any more

moonminmama · 03/08/2010 09:26

I can't tell you what a relief it is! The smell is still horrible but at least I can now be in the house without permenantly havi g to cover my face. Dh said yesterday "it's good to have you back" bless him. It must have been hard on him too!

Tarlia · 03/08/2010 09:32

Hi Ladies, How are you all?

Lost of good news I read! Glad you are doing well Chloe, hope you had a nice holiday. Fab news about Honeywitch! Moomin Pleased to hear you can be in your new house without wanting to vomit, that must have been really tough. Angels Urk, you poor thing. I'm worried about my back too, as was the nurse last week, she spoke to the doctor, who was also worried, and has booked me for an appointment tomorrow to discus it. I feel rather silly as the pregnancy is not affecting it at all right now, so goodness know what she can say/do! Fingers crossed none of us have troubles.

I have my blood being stolen for the double test on Thusday, in preperation for my scan on the 20th. I'm not looking forward to that, but hey ho, I have little choice here.

Whats SPD? Or would I rather be blissfully ignorant?

I'll try and post more, I do read daily, but usually from my iphone, which makes it hard to see who to reply too!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 03/08/2010 09:43

Symphasis Pubis Dysfunction basically your pubic bone is actually three bones held together tightly by ligaments. Normally this is so tight it doesn't move at all. When you are pregnant you produce relaxin, which loosens up all your ligaments in preparation for birth so that the pelvic girdle can move and flex more easily. SPD is when you this happens too early and too much so the ligaments relax so much that the pelvis moves and the symphasis pubis (one of the joints between the pelvic bones) actually separates slightly. This hurts a lot.

worrymummy · 03/08/2010 10:47

Hello everyone, hope you are all starting to feel better. I definitely am, felt shocking for the first few weeks, now just occasionally sick during the day.

Looking at the list I am amazed how many of you know what (gender) you are having already...the sonographer told me it was not possible to tell at this stage! How did you manage it, do tell?!!

best wishes for good scans and not feeling sick...xx

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 03/08/2010 11:04

The ones with cpc next to them are just predictions from the so-called Chinese Pregnancy Calculator (which won't be in the least Chinese as it uses systems of timekeeping and age determination that aren't traditionally used in China) which is just a complete load of tosh bit of fun .

I think the only person who actually knows what she's having at the moment is CheeseChomper, because she's had a CVS. ledkr had a girl prediction at her NT scan (if you have good equipment it is often possible to make a prediction at 12-14 weeks, with an overall accuracy rate of around 80% (although some more recent studies that measure angle between the genital tubercle and the lumbosacral skin line (no, I'm not entirely sure what those are either) rather than just going in for a good look at the genitals have reported an accuracy rate of 98-100%)). IIRC the rest are all CPC predictions.

americanexpat · 03/08/2010 11:37

moonminmama - fingers crossed for your scan today. I was out of my head with worry before mine and felt such relief when I saw the wee one squirming around in there.

wigglesrock · 03/08/2010 12:25

Hello all, just a quick wave, am so jealous of all of you starting to feel better, I have felt and been so sick over the past 2 days, really feels like a backward step. Have treated 2dcs to Alvin & the Chipmunks the Squeakquel ( am still embarrased about how funny I find that name) So am able to relax for oooooh 75 mins, or until dd2 needs the toilet!!

ledkr · 03/08/2010 12:33

well i am feeling sick the last few days i cant help worrying if my 1st 3 months with no sickness mean i am going to get it now in 2nd and 3rd trimester. Does anyone know? Prof you seem knowledgable about spd. Do you know if i am likely to get it again with this one had it with dd 8 but never with the boys before.
Is anyone finding it hard to get on with stuff at work?I have a massive list but just cant get on with it between eating chatting thinking about floss-babies name for the day-and popping onto mn.Feel like a right fraud typing away on here as if i am working away on important stuff.

Tarlia · 03/08/2010 13:32

Thanks for that, Prof.

Sounds bloody painful, I hope nobody suffers too badly this time around.

Wiggles Don't worry, I'm still feeling awful too and had to take my first sick days towards the end of last week. Roll on the feeling better stage.

Ledkr Poor you, hopefully you just have a slight bug or something? Were you sick with your others?

ledkr · 03/08/2010 13:39

only slight and early but def seems worse now at 13.4 weeks still calmed by eating but its just weird it had worsened now. Also getting headaches. Do feel very well tho still which i am grateful for.I must admit that i find it strangely reassuring after months of no symptoms and lots of panic that i have had a mmc. Is that ridiculous/ Its like i feel sick therefore i must be ok haha.
On a more personal note...ok ill be the first to bring it up, the old libido is back. My dh looked very appealing as he got ready for work this am. ps didnt tell him tho dont want him getting any ideas in case i i change my mind later haha

wigglesrock · 03/08/2010 13:49

Ledkr- headaches could be because of dehydration, I had bouts of blurred vision last week and that was why! My libido may also be resurfacing, although have been having yummy if slightly PG13 dreams about various police officers in American TV dramas!! Why is it my lovely policeman husband had more of the Bill look about him as opposed to Southland or Without a Trace!!

Chloe55 · 03/08/2010 13:55

I wish I had a libido

knittakid · 03/08/2010 14:05

So glat for honeywitch and all in here with good news.
I'll be taking DH on Friday to booking in, but who knows when they'll be able to arrange a scan, since I'm going a way for two weeks. Maybe they would not do it anyway becasue of the scan I had at almost 8 weeks, who knows.
Suddenly got very scared about giving birth (this is my first), so got the birth book by the Sears people, it has really helped so far. Do you recommend any other books?
Lots of non-nausea wishes Xx

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 03/08/2010 14:15

Why do I never remember about having to give birth until after I'm pregnant...?

angels1 · 03/08/2010 14:25

I started thinking about birth too, but my general outlook is currently to try and forget about that bit until I HAVE to accept it's going to happen! eeek

wigglesrock I too had blurry vision last week that I put down not drinking enough (that or wasting too much time playing games on facebook!).

My libido seems to be up a bit when I'm feeling better. DH definately put a dampner on any potential action yesterday though by giving himself food poisining by leaving a yoghurt out by the hot oven for a few hours and then eating it [I despair sometimes].

On a rather excited note food has actually tasted GOOD today for the first time. I had half a mini magnum ice cream and it was goooodddddd! Feels like my tastes are adjusting themselves a bit more back to normal hope it stays that way!

ledkr hope you feel better soon. You're not very tired or stressed? these things make my sickness alot worse (as well as hunger obv).

wigglesrock · 03/08/2010 14:54

Knittakid I really enjoyed Kaz Cooke's The Rough Guide to Pregnancy, I got it for my first and still am nosying into it, its funny, not patronising and best of all there are no horrible 1970's type pictures of the actual birth

sweetnitanitro · 03/08/2010 15:02

knittakid I read the hypnobirthing book (the Marie Mongan one) and it definitely helped me relax and prepare for the birth. It didn't 'work' in the sense that I didn't need other pain relief but it stopped me from worrying about it constantly so I think it was worth it.

DD is driving me crackers today, she hasn't had a nap and she keeps trying to make me run up and down after she spent all night waking me up every hour. I'm still in my pyjamas

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 03/08/2010 15:24

What sort of thing are you looking for, knittakid -- a basic account of the birth process, or a particular approach to it, or lots of background information?

PDR · 03/08/2010 15:40

DS is also driving me mad! Took him out to a small soft play place this morning and he kept on wanting to play at the bottom of the slide Stayed only 1/2 hour in the end as got fed up of having to pick him up and carry him to another part to distract him!

Then I discovered I hadn't put the lid on his sippy cup properly and water leaked in my handbag! All over my diary, phone, various bits of paper etc Silly me!!!!!!
