Hi All

This is the new thread taking over from "Feb 2011... Where only us and a select few know"

So sad that not everyone will be joining us on the new thread but here's looking to the future and hoping we start to see some lovely scans and good news from everyone in the next month

OP posts:

It seems state teachers do better than me working at a private school. I get something like 6 weeks 90% then 32 weeks one hundred and something a week (whatever the minimum state thing is)....I guess at least I get longer hols . Glad others are leaving before christmas - makes me feel not quite so odd for leaving so early!

Does anyone know if we only get the state basic (ie what I said before) if we have to go back to work at the end? I know some people have to go back for a while at least or they have to pay back some maternity money. I'm planning on going back but can't tell until I get there how I feel.

PDR · 01/08/2010 09:15

angels what you are describing - 6 weeks @ 90% followed by SMP is what everyone is entitled to unless your employer offers a more generous scheme...

You do not have to pay anything back if you do not return to work. Not sure how it works for teachers but you also accrue statutory holiday when you are off... this might not be possible with set holidays like you have though but for everyone else it adds another month to your mat leave if you take the full 12 months.

zerominuszero · 01/08/2010 09:55

Bugger. Hope I can get a mortgage holiday, then

PDR · 01/08/2010 10:19

zerominuszero and moonminmama is it the same for teachers whereever they are or does it depend on the individual LEA?

moonminmama · 01/08/2010 10:41

PDR I assume it's the same everywhere as that info came from the DFES website but I could be wrong.

zerominuszero · 01/08/2010 11:20

Yeah I'm guessing it's the same everywhere but I'm not 100%. Don't suppose if anyone knows whether I'll get my TLR or just my regular scale?

angels1 · 01/08/2010 11:32

don't know zeromuniszero. Are you a member of a union? Mine does booklets on this type of thing you can ask for. It's no good to me as I'm provate tho.

zerominuszero · 01/08/2010 13:42

Yep I'm in a union, I could ask them, sorry I'm being a bit lazy getting you lot to answer all my questions for me!

I suspect I may not get my TLR, sadly...

knittakid · 01/08/2010 14:02

Hi Ladies, back from London and trying to catch up, but there is too much to read...!!
just a question, did you all take DHs to the booking in? I mean, is it alright if I do?

moonminmama · 01/08/2010 16:21

If you are already on a tlr then surely that is what you get paid maternity leave. HoDs keep their wage so I assume people with TLRs keep the same wage.

zerominuszero · 01/08/2010 17:57

knittakid I didn't as he had work, but I don't see why or how they would stop you...

PDR · 01/08/2010 18:30

knittakid midwife came to my house for my booking appt and DH happened to be in at the time... she didn't much bother with him to be honest, but this is our 2nd so I guess she assumed he knew the ropes!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 01/08/2010 19:15

I never have, but the leaflet I got on it specifically said it was fine if you wanted to.

sweetnitanitro · 01/08/2010 19:34

I took DH to the booking appointment both times, it can be quite useful because the MW will ask you loads of questions about family health history. If he can't go it might be an idea to ask if there are any hereditary conditions in his family that he knows of.

worrymummy · 01/08/2010 20:10

Hello to everyone - - can I join the club please?
I'm 40 and expecting baby no.3 on the 29th Feb. Although both babies were very late so should probably join the March 2011 thread!
Is anyone else here older and a still rather shocked that it is happenning?

xxx

PDR · 01/08/2010 20:40

Welcome worrymummy - is 2011 a leap year? I thought the number had to be divisible by 4? I may be wrong

Congratulations anyway!

ledkr · 01/08/2010 21:42

Hi worry mummy. I am 43 with 25 23 20 sons and 8yr old dd. This will be 1st baby with dh. Was absolutely floored by this but am excited now and less worried since good downs odds last Wednesday. looked after 10 month old grandson today and had some serious doubts as I put my house back together after he went!

starbuck05 · 02/08/2010 09:22

Trying to catch up on the weekend new, sorry for being 3 days behind everyone. It is worrying that we haven't heard from Chloe isn't it, hope she's just very busy.
Cheesechomper I'm delighted for you! You must be so relieved, great news.
Tadjennyp you have probably got this sorted by now, but bleeding after sex is very common with polyps, and they usually remove them (just twizzle them off) if they are bleeding. Presumably this would be okay in pregnancy as they're all on the outside, and I wouldn't have thought they would let you go on bleeding - I think.
ledkr is that true about the leg hairs thing and boys?? I'm definitely having a boy then! Do they also give you spots too?
Was interested to see when everyone is taking their maternity leave and for how long, I hadn't really thought about it. Stopping after Christmas would be great - I hate getting up on cold dark January mornings, and driving back from work in the dark, and never seeing daylight. I have an 80 mild round trip and it took me 2 hours each way last winter in the snow, and had several near death experiences! Really don't fancy that with a massive bump and dodgy bladder.

sweetnitanitro · 02/08/2010 11:06

Congrats and welcome worrymummy How old are your other DCs?

starbuck, dunno about the leg hair thing, I can't remember what happened with DD. Mine are growing this time though, I'm just glad it's been too cool to wear a skirt, I can't be bothered to get my epilator out! This quiz is good fun to do but there are some questions that will have to wait another couple of months!

Well my good news for today is that my car (miraculously) passed its MOT! So no having to fork out money for repairs. I am still laughing in disbelief and now really looking forward to my scan on Thurs.

starbuck05 · 02/08/2010 11:25

sweetnitanitro good news on your MOT, good luck for your scan! I did your test (the bits that I could anyway), 100% chance of a boy. Hee hee

worrymummy · 02/08/2010 11:35

PDR - you are right, I better check that! Just shows how in tune I am with this pregnancy - not! The date I worked out originally was 4th March but the scan seems to say I'm a week further on than I thought - 14 weeks tomorrow I think. With my 2 DSs (4 1/2 and 2 1/2) I knew when I conceived to the day so ths is confusing for me! Or maybe its a lethal combination of old age and pg hormones

anyway thank you and congrats to you too!

ledkr - wow congratulations, that's great about the scan. I had mine on Friday but now need to wait for the blood test as they have just started combined testing here. I am still in total chaos mode as my boys are 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 but not looking forward to nappies and night feeds!

well nice to meet you!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 02/08/2010 11:40

If you are 14 weeks tomorrow then that would make your due date 1 Feb... if you were due at the end of Feb you'd be around 10 weeks now.

Will update stats soon (will hang on to get EDD from worrymummy).

Should be stopping work mid-December -- taking this year's leave, then taking next year's leave in a block from the start of January, then starting maternity leave proper mid-February. Hurrah for a January-December leave year!

ledkr · 02/08/2010 11:52

had dd at end of jan 02 gave up work at xmas seemed no point going back in tbh.I too can t wait to go. Not keen onmy job and am looking forward to being a full time mummy to my dd who deserves it as i have worked since she was 6 months old. Leg hair thing is speculation on my part i just thought they grew less with dd but are growing fast with this one who is apparently a girly. I hope that wasnt a mistake today she is trixxie but was Florence over the weekend...DD desperate to name it.

worrymummy · 02/08/2010 11:56

Professor I am sorry for being so useless! Have just checked and the EDD by ultrasound is 29th January (not Feb!) Does this mean I should join the Jan 2011 club? I was 10 and 13 days late with my 2 DSs so am convinced it will be feb not jan!!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 02/08/2010 11:59

We have people in this group due from 26 Jan, so you'll be very welcome here, and we promise not to tip off the January 2011 group so that they come looking for you...
