oh Shab - :( Maths has always been my nightmare. My Dad is an accountant but none of his maths genius genes came my way. The only reason I have a GCSE or my Maths Teacher Exam is because my poor Dad had to sit with me for an hour every night and go through my maths lesson of that day again. The night before my Maths Teaching Exam I phoned my dad at 4am in tears to go through something again. I feel your pain, I've no idea what Indices are... xxx (I know that isn't very helpful...)

Mini - I've had a night away from DH, and I hated it. I wasn't on my own, I shared a bed with Mum but I still hated it. Felt very anxious being away from him. (Me and Mum had gone to my SILs overnight...Not sure how I'd be being left at home on my own.) Dreading the next time DH is sent away for work. Come and talk to us a lot on here while he is away...

For the first time ever, in his school life, I have written a long letter to the infamous Mr Patel...basically saying Tom cannot understand the maths. I checked in his year 9 text book and these indices are not even in the book?????? Tom explained that he is in the top set which is the fast track set....meaning that he will be doing his GCSE's in year 10 instead of 11 Confused

Danny is almost an accountant Grin he sits his final exams next year. He was here tonight and just shuddered when Tom asked for help...ended up saying 'Mum just write him a note!!'

Happy Birthday Harry, I'll be lighting a candle in your honour tonight xxx

How are you doing TW. I hope Daniel is feeling even better by now and I hope you got/get some reflection time today. Thinking of you all xxx

Minione · 07/10/2010 18:36

TW - Thinking of you and Harry today, I will light a candle here in Leics xxx

Caz - Thank you x I'm going to do a bit of cooking at my Mum's (moroccan lamb shanks - um yum)and we're going shopping in Birmingham on Saturday so I will be fairly busy but I hate the thought of sleeping alone. When are you back from your break?

Shabs - I was in a top set for Maths. I was ok until GCSE then I spent 2 years either looking vacant or messing around. My best mate and I didn't do any work for weeks on end and when the teacher checked we would say we'd been off!( we hadn't Confused) Needless to say I got a D and had to resit. For resit I had the teacher I had in years 7 and 8(when I was top of the class!)and passed after a couple of months! I suppose a good teacher really makes a difference!

I worked with a Mr Patel who was a maths teacher - I wonder if he's moved up north! (he wasn't great Wink)

shelleylou · 07/10/2010 19:21

how are you all?? sorry for my absence internets been awol so have borrowed a dongle from my mum. Have been thinking of you all couldn't find the old thread. Candle lit here for you TW and Harry.

I've been quite low as we're in the buildup to the first anniversairy but have tried keeping myself busy delivering flyers with ds.

shabbadabbadingdong · 07/10/2010 19:23

Mini - Tom's face is like this Grin he said 'Ask Mini if he is Asian Hmm, very strict and very sarcastic....Tom's Mr Patel (according to Tom) has a very flat head

They used to have a really young Science teacher called Mr Carlisle - the kids called him 'No smile' Carlisle - when I met him, at parents evening, I realised why!!

My Maths teacher in my CSE (wasn't GCSE then) year said, on my report, Shabba is totally useless in all aspects of Mathematics but remains cheerful and well mannered at all times.....I got a C Mr Vickers so ner ner ner ner ner!!

shabbadabbadingdong · 07/10/2010 19:25

Shit day here but I am now half cut on vodka so things are looking up slightly

Minione · 07/10/2010 21:13

Shabs - Grin Yes he was Asian but he was a very sweet guy who the kids walked all over. He did have a bit of a flat head though! They're a funny bunch teachers, I know I'm one (and so is DH) but it never ceases to amaze me how strange some of them are! No offence Caz, I'm sure you're a normal one like me!

Hi Shelley - nice to see you ! What's your tattoo like?
